Heartbreaking tributes for dad-of-5 with ‘heart of gold’ after tragic Storm Eowyn generator incident as gas leak probed
A DAD-of-five has been remembered as someone with a “heart of gold” after a tragic generator incident over the weekend.
Jason McKay, 30s, has been identified as the man who tragically passed away at his home in Portrush Co Antrim on Sunday, January 26.
It is understood that the man’s death may be connected to fumes from a generator used during Storm Eowyn, with a gas leak being probed as the cause of death.
Emergency services responded to the scene on Sunday morning.
In his death notice from DJM Robinson & Son, Jason is described as the “dearly loved husband of Serena, much loved dad of Faith, Lori, Ava, Lilyahna and David, very dear son of Ian and Joan, stepson of Karen and Stephen, loving brother of Morgan, Lucas, Max, Miley, Ethan, Amber and the late Emma, dear grandson of Nora, Isobel, Ivan and the late William, step grandson of Ronnie and a dear son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle and nephew.”
Tributes have poured in for the newlywed and dad-of-five who died over the weekend.
TUV vice chairman, Councillor Allister Kyle said: “I’m absolutely devastated to hear the news of the tragic passing of Jason McKay. I knew Jason well.
“A dedicated member of Dunseverick LOL 528, I was pleased to see him elected and installed as their Deputy Master.
“Jason and I were about the same age and went through some of our degrees together in the Orange.
“Jason got married last year and he lived just a few doors up from our family farm in Craigahulliar. A quiet, unassuming fella, Jason was a hard worker who was very family focused.
“Jason was well known in the farming community and when he wasn’t helping his father’s building firm enjoyed working to a local agricultural contractor.
“He will be sorely missed by many not least his parents, wife Serena, their young family and wider family circle.
“My thoughts and prayers are with Jason’s family, colleagues and friends.”
On social media, a spokesperson for Giants Causeway Protestant Boys Flute Band also posted a tribute to Jason.
They said: “Giants Causeway Protestant Boys Flute Band would like to offer our sincere condolences to our former Bandmaster Ian McKay on the sudden passing of his son Jason, also to our flag girl Miley on the passing of her brother and to the wider family circle. Rest Easy Jason.”
Cllr Darryl Wilson added: “A very sad day, passing on our condolences from the Ballymoney community to all impacted by this awful tragedy.”
His funeral will take place on Friday at 2.30pm in Dunseverick Parish Church, with burial afterwards in the churchyard.

A BEAUTY enthusiast who was considering getting Botox has revealed the ultimate hack to avoid needing injections to banish wrinkles.
So if you’re on an anti-ageing mission and are desperate to reduce the appearance of fine lines, then fear not, you’ve come to the right place.
Stace Fizzy, a content creator from the US, explained that she has discovered a very simple three-ingredient solution that has totally transformed her skin, leaving her wrinkle-free at 40.
The brunette beauty was influenced by Melanie Sandford, a Holistic Nutritionist certified in medicinal plants, who swears by the DIY anti-ageing solution.
Posting on social media, Stace gave a step-by-step tutorial on how to make the natural skincare mixture, which she described as “magic”.
Stace claimed that not only has it “legit got rid of my wrinkles at 40 years of age”, but it’s also “so easy” to make too.
Showing off the DIY solution, which involves filling a glass container half full with castor oil and half full of jojoba oil, as well as 10-15 drops of frankincense, Stace beamed: “Melly Sandford calls this the fountain of youth and she’s the one that saved me from getting Botox a year ago, so I trust her with my life.
“Last year I had a crack between my eyebrows and I’m an all natural girly all the way, but I was about to turn 40 and I was actually considering getting Botox, but then I found Melly, I found castor oil – fast forward and here we are, no Botox needed and that’s something that I’m very happy about.”
She then advised: “In a glass container, mix half castor oil to half jojoba oil and then add 10 to 15 drops of frankincense oil and shake it up.
“If you’ve used castor oil before, you know that the s**t is magic, but this s**t is thick and adding the jojoba oil makes it totally usable as a topical face oil that’s basically the natural girl’s version of Botox, so you’re welcome.
“And thank you so much, Melly Samford, you’re doing God’s work.”
When asked how easy it is to make the DIY product, Stace confirmed: “It’s so easy! You can order it all on Amazon.”
Although you’ll find all of these products on Amazon, you can also nab them on the cheap from Holland & Barrett.
There, you’ll find castor oil for just £3.34, jojoba oil for £8, and pure frankincense essential oil that’s been reduced to £10.72.
This saved me from Botox!! My skin has never been better!!

In total, this DIY solution will cost you just £22.06 and is sure to last you months, making it a much more affordable alternative to Botox.

How to reverse ageing in just 2 weeks, according to royal go-to nutritionist
LONDON -based Gabriela Peacock, who has helped the likes of Prince Harry and Princess Eugenie prepare for their weddings.
She told Fabulous: “The science is evident that we all have the power to make simple life changing alterations to better our future selves – no matter what genetic hand we might have been dealt with.
“The reality is, we all sometimes indulge in unhealthy eating habits like processed foods, smoking cigarettes, drinking too much alcohol, inhaling city pollutants, and even drinking water from plastic bottles – none of this is good for us.
“All this does is promote the ageing process, but we all have the potential to change this.”
It may be hard, but try to keep away from sugary carbohydrates, because they feed chronic inflammation, which is one of the worst enemies of reversing ageing.
Now only will you end up putting on weight if you consume them regularly, but your energy and hormonal levels will be affected and this will influence how you look and feel.
Whatever your age or state of health, it’s never too late to reverse how quickly you are ageing and embrace the energy and vigour of a younger you.
Antioxidants, such as vitamins A, C, and E, are essential in neutralising free radicals—the culprits behind premature ageing.
Integrating a spectrum of colourful fruits and vegetables into your diet provides a potent source of antioxidants.
Omega-3 fatty acids, abundant in fatty fish like salmon and flaxseeds, are vital for maintaining skin elasticity and hydration.
Omega-3s act as nourishment for your skin, locking in moisture and diminishing fine lines and wrinkles.
Collagen, a structural protein dwindling with age, can be replenished through collagen-rich foods like bone broth and lean protein sources.
Not only were many beauty fans eager to try out the DIY solution, but others eagerly flocked to the comments to share their thoughts on the Botox in a Bottle solution.
One person said: “I’m 53 & nobody believes me, been using this for years.”
Another added: “This saved me from Botox!! My skin has never been better!!”
A third commented: “I use this mixture and loving it!”
Whilst someone else claimed: “It’s all I use. It’s magic.”
Coronation Street’s Jack P Shepherd reveals fan left him £5,000 in their will – and what he decided to do with it
CORONATION Street actor Jack P Shepherd has revealed he was in shock when a fan left him money in their will.
The ITV actor has played his on-screen character David Platt for the past 25 years in Coronation Street, but he never expected the role to come with an added benefit.
Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd revealed a devoted soap fan left him £5,000 in his will[/caption]The actor opened up to co-stars Ben price and Colson Smith as he explained how he was included in a fan’s last testament, with the fan giving him £5,000.
Jack initially revealed the fan, who was a postman from New Zealand, left him the tidy sum when he opened up in an Instagram Q&A alongside his on-screen wife Shona (played by Julia Goulding).
Jack said: “(He) gave me five grand in their will. From New Zealand, a fan. Died, and gave me 10 per cent of his estate, which was five grand. So cheers.”
The star later revealed the money had been used to take his family to Florida, with the unexpected windfall helping cover the costs.
Discussing the windfall again with co-stars on a podcast, Ben – who play’s Jack’s on-screen brother Nick Platt – added: “I was convinced that it was a scam and I said ‘that’s a scam, you’re getting f*****g scammed, I hope you’re getting scammed because I’ll be so f****d off if you’re not’.”
Jack has played his on-screen role of David since 2000, when he first took over from Thomas Ormson.
The actor, from Pudsey in West Yorkshire, has also made a name for himself outside of the ITV soap with stage performances including adaptations of West Side Story and Oliver!
The star also revealed with his co-stars how he nearly fell out with them over plans for his upcoming marriage this year, as Jack is reluctant to have a stag do.
Colson, who is due to leave the soap this year, broached the subject as he told his friend: “There is something that I need to broach with you on this subject and I don’t quite know when the right time to do this is.
“Now is the right time, but you’re very very against it.
“But I just need to tell you that it’s happening, that there is a small group of us, which is only four people and then including yourself, that’s five, but we have to tell you now that you are having a stag do.”
A reluctant Jack then responded that he hadn’t been told, as Colson explained they’d discussed it during a gym session.
Colson then reassured Jack it would be low key, with the pair agreeing the stag do plans could mean they “go for a bit of food and then go out.”

Watch heartbreaking moment Ronnie begs Harriett to take him back as fans spot reason she’s ‘stringing him along’
RONNIE Vint was seen begging Harriett Blackmore to take him back in a heartbreaking Love Island All Stars moment.
Harriett arrived as a Love Island All Stars bombshell last week, reuniting with Ronnie following their split in 2024.
Fans were initially convinced the couple had never split and were using the reunion storyline to win the show.
But viewers took to social media last night after Ronnie was seen urging Harriett to give them another go – something she refused.
One wrote: “Harriett doesn’t care about Ronnie anymore.. she’s just stringing him along and giving him hope.”
Another said: “Ronnie finally realised Harriett really didn’t come back in for him.”
And a third added: “Harriett isn’t a*sed bc she knows she’s got Ronnie wrapped round her finger either way and fair enough tbh.”
In Monday night’s episode Ronnie pulled Harriett for a chat around the firepit.
She told him: “I’m not in love with you in anymore, I love you but you hurt me.
“Why would I be in love with someone who hurt me?”
Ronnie insisted that he wants to “move forward” with Harriett and added: “If someone walks in, you think I’m sitting here watching you crack on with him. No way, I’m not a mug.”
During their first time in the villa last summer, Ronnie repeatedly had his head turned despite being coupled up with Harriett.
Referring to this, Harriett said: “I owe it to myself, I gave you everything and you didn’t give me… If I actually want to get to know someone and I have a genuine connection, of course I will.
“You did it! You didn’t even do it once, you did it three or four times.”
Ronnie replied: “All I want with you is a fresh start. This is completely different, there are so many feelings involved.
“What happened in the villa the first time, I’d just met you and feelings at the time were so different to now.
“I’m saying to you, here and now – this isn’t a game to me. There’s no comparing if you want to move forward with someone.”
Ronnie and Harriett split in September, amid rumours he’d been unfaithful on a night out – something he strongly denied.
