‘Good news’ forecast as Met Eireann pinpoint sunny spells & ‘quieter’ weather before ‘unsettled’ twist in just days

MET Eireann has confirmed that “things are going to be a lot quieter” after Storm Eoywn and Herminia caused havoc over the weekend.

And even though a more “unsettled” twist is on the way come Friday, weather experts have pinpointed when we can expect “sunny spells and calmer conditions”.

Some heavy rainfall is expected today[/caption]

Before any changes, this morning will be a wet morning with “heavy” rainfall at times and showers most frequent in the west and northwest.

It will be windy once again in the southwest and breezy across the country with temperatures of 6C to 9C.

Tonight will be a cold night with temperatures to drop below freezing to -1C.

There is a chance of sleet and hail in some parts as those temperatures drop, particularly in the west and north where rain will also fall.

It will be cloudier in Munster with drizzle also expected in the region.

Frost and ice patches will develop as temperatures drop overnight with “mist and fog” patches also forming.

But despite cool conditions Wednesday will take a sunny turn with ”  long spells of sunshine developing”.

However, still on the chiller said with highest temperatures of 5C to 8C.

Met Eireann’s Aoife Kealy said: “Things are going to be a lot quieter than they have been.

And looking to tomorrow she said: “Once any mist, fog and frost clears off tomorrow morning it is going to be a dry and bright day with long spells of sunshine”

She added: “It is going to be quite cools highs of 5C to 8C.”

Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather also issued a “good news” forecast.

He said: “Some very heavy falls of rain this morning as system pulls away and windy in Southwest. A mix of sunny spells and showers after this mornings rain ahead of a cold night tonight.

“Good news is Wednesday will be a much nicer day with good sunny spells and calmer.”

Wednesday night will be mainly dry with just scattered showers over Connacht and Ulster.

‘UNSETTLED TURN’

These could fall as sleet at times as temperatures drop to between -2C and 1C.

Thursday will be another dry run with just some isolated showers and cloud increasing throughout the day.

Then that night will see more patchy rain and cloud, however, a little warmer on Thursday night with 1C to 5C temperatures.

Friday and Saturday are when the weather returns to a more “unsettled” forecast.

However temperatures will pick up over the weekend.

Met Eireann said: “A milder, cloudier day with scattered patches of light rain and drizzle, though many areas will stay dry.

Highest temperatures of 8C to 11C in moderate southerly winds.

And more of the same on Saturday with cloud lingering and further outbreaks of rain and drizzle.

Hollywood actor GUILTY of attacking ex the day after he was freed early under Keir’s scheme & now faces more jail time

A HOLLYWOOD actor has been found guilty of attacking his ex the day after he was freed early from jail under Sir Keir Starmer’s scheme.

The tattooed thug, 53, had served just half his 18 month sentence for assaulting his ex-girlfriend Rachel Usher.

Hoganson , who had a leading role in the cult 1980s film Empire State, landed himself back in prison after assaulting Rachel the following day.

He is now facing more jail time after being convicted of assault and two counts of breaching a restraining order.

Newcastle Magistrates’ Court was told Rachel, 42, had tragically died on October 30 – the day Hoganson was originally due to stand trial.

A judge decided the case should go ahead using the mum-of-three’s statement as evidence.

She told in the document how the pair had been in a relationship for about six years and Hoganson “used to hit me all the time”.

The statement continued: “I’m aware he was released two days ago – earlier than he should have been.”

Rachel said on September 11, she was waiting for a lift by her flat when the thug ran towards her and “slapped me across the side of my face”.

She added: “He was shouting and bawling and seemed really angry. He called me a s*** and said there was someone in my flat.

“He said can we go somewhere and when I said no he got even more angry.”

Rachel told how the slap was “powerful” and had “a lot of force behind it”.

The court heard the mum phoned the police, while Hoganson hit his head on an electrical box on the wall.

In his evidence, the former actor claimed he only went to the block of flats where Rachel lived to get some belongings from a man who lived there.

When asked why the mystery man was not in court to back up his version of events, Hoganson bizarrely claimed he had been “having an affair” with his ex.

The thug then launched into a foul-mouthed rant – causing him to be removed from the dock.

Deputy District Judge Natalie Wortley found Hoganson guilty of all three charges.

The breach of a restraining order relates to going to Rachel’s home on the day of the attack and sending her a letter from prison a week earlier.

Hoganson was originally convicted in August last year after he was caught on doorbell footage attacking Rachel.

The actor was already under a restraining order when he showed up at her home and shoved her to the ground.

Hoganson was also filmed slapping the woman and landing more blows during the terrifying attack.

He was sentenced to 18 months behind bars after he admitted assault by beating and breach of a restraining order.

But he was released early under Sir Keir’s controversial scheme to free up space in prison.

The actor has now been remanded into custody ahead of sentencing for his latest conviction on February 25.

Hoganson was once a rising star in Hollywood – playing drifter Pete in crime thriller Empire State, set in London’s yuppie docklands and starring Oscar nominee Martin Landau.

But the fallen star slipped in a spiral of drug addiction and crime that led to more than 100 convictions.

In recent years, Hoganson has shocked with his appearance after covering self-harm scars to his face with tattoos.

I’m a dog trainer – one of Britain’s most popular breeds considered the ‘Ford Focus’ of pets is a secret ‘bag of nerves’

FINDING the right pooch to join your family can be a tricky task.

You have to know if they’re good around children, how much training they need and how much exercise.

Two dog trainers shared their top dog breeds[/caption]

Fortunately, Iain and Jacob, two dog trainers from Yorkshire have made the process easier and shared their top dogs.

Speaking on the Caffeine and Canine podcast, the pair sat down to discuss which pooches they loved and which they would avoid.

Jacob said: “Today everyone, we’re playing Doggy Bingo.”

The game sees the pair get a breed called out and they have to say what they really think of each pooch.

And one that made the game was Britain’s favourite breed, the Labrador.

Jacob said it was the ‘Ford Focus’ of dogs, with Iain agreeing they were a ‘solid dog.’

Many people see the pooch as a reliable dog; they can be easy to train, great around children and other dogs, and love a snuggle.

However, Jacob admitted that while most are the gold-tier of dogs, they can go down to a bronze.

“They can be a bag of nerves too,” said Jacob.

Dog experts at I Heart Dogs say: “While Labrador Retrievers are mostly an easy going breed, they can definitely have anxiety.

The labrador came up top but it still has some issues[/caption]

“In fact, their ability to sense our moods and even if we are healthy or not might make them more prone to stress because they are highly attuned to their environment.”

You can tell when a Labrador is stressed with their body language and noises.

They may start to whine, and when stressed often tuck their tail underneath them.

Excessive lip licking and taking treats more aggressively than usual can also be signs.

Britain’s favourite dog breeds

HERE are the top ten dog breeds in the UK....

  1. Labrador Retriever
    • Renowned for their friendly and outgoing nature.
    • Popular as both family pets and working dogs.
  2. French Bulldog
    • Known for their distinctive bat-like ears and affectionate temperament.
    • Ideal for city living due to their small size.
  3. Cocker Spaniel
    • Beloved for their playful and loyal disposition.
    • Excellent companions for active families.
  4. Pug
    • Recognised for their charming wrinkled faces and sociable nature.
    • Adaptable to various living environments.
  5. Staffordshire Bull Terrier
    • Valued for their courageous and loving character.
    • Strong and muscular build, yet gentle with children.
  6. Dachshund
    • Adored for their distinctive long bodies and lively personality.
    • Comes in a variety of coat types: smooth, wire, and long-haired.
  7. Border Collie
    • Celebrated for their intelligence and energy.
    • Excellent working dogs, especially in herding.
  8. Golden Retriever
    • Known for their friendly and tolerant attitude.
    • Great family pets and skilled in various service roles.
  9. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
    • Cherished for their gentle and affectionate nature.
    • Small size makes them perfect for lap dogs.
  10. German Shepherd
    • Admired for their loyalty and versatility.
    • Commonly used in police and military roles due to their trainability.

Also on the list was the English Bull Terrier with Iain quick to note it was a ‘legendary’ dog.

Both Iain and Jacob put the dog in the gold category as Iain said they were ‘funny characters.’

Jacob added: They’re f***ing mad though aren’t they?”

“Until I was a dog trainer and actually you guys are pretty fun.”

“Gold tier for entertainment, but would you recommend one?” he asked Iain.

“Not for a novice,” replied Iain who said they can be quite nippy and need to be trained properly.

The PDSA says that the English Bull Terrier is a relatively easy breed to train however, owners should know they have very high energy levels so need to be kept entertained.
