Captain Tom’s name REMOVED from scandal-hit charity after probe found his daughter Hannah personally profited from it

CAPTAIN Sir Tom Moore’s name has been removed from the scandal-hit charity established in tribute to the Covid hero.

New filings at Companies House indicate The Captain Tom Foundation will now be known by the equally catchy “The 1189808 Foundation”.

Captain Tom rose to fame in 2020 for walking 100 laps of his garden[/caption]

The latest accounts, disclosed last summer, showed the entity had assets exceeding £262,600.

It comes after the organisation’s website was removed following a damning investigation by the Charity Commission.

Former Army officer Capt Tom became a national treasure after raising more than £30million for the NHS by doing laps of his garden during the pandemic.

He passed away in 2021 aged 100 but his family has been criticised over management of funds raised in his name.

Daughter Hannah Ingram-Moore, 53, and her husband Colin, 66, had both been made trustees in 2021.

But were disqualified from being charity trustees after the humiliating probe found the pair had received “significant personal benefit” from the “mismanaged” foundation.

The Charity Commission report also highlighted “repeated failures” with both Hannah and Colin’s leadership and “repeated instances of misconduct and/ or mismanagement”.

This comes as Hannah’s own business Club Nook, that she co-runs with her husband, had collapsed, according to accounts filed with Companies House.

The business had been created to manage The Captain Tom Foundation’s commercial interests and intellectual property.

But the latest documents have shown it only has current assets of £149, a stark contrast to last year’s £336,300.

Liabilities have also dropped from £106,104 to £19,246 net within a year.

The couple previously pocketed £1.5million from a book deal, giving none to Capt Tom’s charity.

In November last year, the foundation asked for the cash back “immediately and without the need for further action”.

It is understood much of the funds were put into an illegal luxury spa in their garden using the Captain Tom Foundation charity name.

The block was demolished earlier this year after the family lost an appeal against Central Bedfordshire Council’s order for it to be torn down.

The report also reveals that Ingram-Moore blocked from paying herself a £150,000 salary as charity CEO, took £85,000 a year and reimbursed her own firm with £80,000 in costs from the foundation.

The couple hoodwinked the public by promising royalties to the charity from its merchandise website.

Charity Commission report's key findings

The 30-page report published on Thursday came after a two-year inquiry

It found the Ingram-Moores carried out repeated instances of misconduct.

These include:

  • “disingenuous” statements from Mrs Ingram-Moore about not being offered a six-figure sum to become the charity’s CEO
  • a misleading implication that donations from book sales would be made to the foundation
  • no evidence to support Mrs Ingram-Moore’s claims she attended an awards ceremony in a personal capacity, for which she was paid £18,000
  • The couple used the foundation’s name in an initial planning application for an illegal spa pool block at their home

Instead buyers were redirected to external sites where no commission to good causes was collected.

And they gave the charity £8,900 from a Capt Tom gin from profits thought to be well over £100,000.

Publishers Penguin agreed to pay a £1.4million advance to the Ingram-Moores’ private company for Capt Tom’s memoir on the understanding a contribution would be made to his charity.

He raised nearly £39million for NHS charities by walking 100 lockdown laps of his garden.

In the prologue to Tomorrow Will Be a Good Day, Capt Tom, who died in 2021 aged 100, wrote: “I have also been given the chance to raise even more money for the charitable foundation established in my name.”

Just £17,000 in royalties went to charity.

The report concluded: “The public would understandably feel misled given no donation has been made to the charity.”

Last year, Mrs Ingram-Moore wept as she told Piers Morgan she and her hubby pocketed £800,000 from book sales.

But the true scale of their plunder is far greater.

The Ingram-Moores, who used Capt Tom’s name to try to sell their £2.25million home in Marston Moretaine, Bedfordshire, have been banned as charity trustees.

Penguin said: “We are extremely disappointed.”

Liz Brownsell, of law firm Birketts, said: “There is nothing suggesting fraud.

“It is more a moral than a legal issue.”

How Captain Sir Tom Moore rose to fame & his daughter's controversies

  • March 2020 – D-Day veteran Captain Tom Moore walks 100 laps around his Bedfordshire garden before his 100th birthday, raising £30million for the NHS during the first lockdown.
  • April 2020 – Captain Tom reaches No. 1 in the charts with his cover of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’. He receives 100,000 cards for his 100th birthday, which is marked with a Battle of Britain flypast. A train is named after him.
  • July 2020 – Captain Tom is knighted by the Queen in a special private ceremony at Windsor Castle.
  • September 2020 – Hannah Ingram-Moore launches the Captain Tom Foundation to combat loneliness.
  • December 2020 – Drones swarm into the shape of Captain Tom’s face at the New Year’s Eve firework display in London.
  • February 2021 – Captain Sir Tom Moore dies after catching covid-19.
  • February 2022 – The Charity Commission launches a probe into the Captain Tom foundation after it paid £50,000 to companies run by Hannah Ingram-Moore and her husband Colin.
  • July 2023 – The foundation stops accepting donations. Planning chiefs order Hannah to tear down an unauthorised spa at her Bedfordshire home. The building had been approved to be used “in connection with the Captain Tom Foundation and its charitable objectives”. But a larger building with a spa pool was built instead and was denied retrospective planning permission. Hannah appeals.
  • September 2023 – accounts reveal Hannah received more than £70,000 to head the foundation.
  • October 2023 – Hannah loses her appeal and is ordered to demolish the spa and restore the garden to its original condition.
  • January 2024 – Demolition work begins.
  • November 2024 – Probe finds family “repeatedly benefitted” from “mismanaged” foundation.
  • January 2025 – Her business Club Nook collapses with just £149 in assets compared to £336,300 a year prior. The foundation’s website also disappears.

Lionel Messi ‘tells family and friends he will return to Barcelona’ as David Beckham makes shock admission

LIONEL MESSI has set his sights on a sensational return to Barcelona.

The 37-year-old ended his two-decade spell with Barcelona in 2021 and subsequently joined Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent.

Messi left Barcelona as a free agent in 2021[/caption]

After two years in France he left Europe to sign for MLS giants Inter Miami in a huge free transfer and has since netted 34 goals and provided 18 assists in just 39 appearances.

But with just one year left on his current deal, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner is looking to the future.

Messi recently told a family friend that he wants to complete a sensational return to Barcelona.

Yanina Latorre told La Nacion: “He [Messi] told me that when he finishes here [Miami], where he is happy, he will return to Barcelona.”

The Argentina captain also allegedly rejected the possibility of extending his stay in the USA and said: “No, my place is there.”

A return as a player could be made complicated due to Barcelona’s ongoing money issues, so he could take up an ambassadorial role.

Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham also recently admitted that Messi only sees his future in Spain.

Speaking at the Economic Forum in Davos, the England legend said: “I would like Messi to live in Miami when he retires, but Leo told me that he only thinks about living near the Camp Nou.

“There is no player who loves Barcelona as much as he does.

“You can see the Barca crest on his leg and even on his water bottle.”

While Beckham did not disclose exactly when Messi could go back to Barcelona, his Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas previously revealed that he will sit down with the forward to discuss his future.

Mas said: “I fully expect that when our new stadium opens in 2026, Leo Messi will be our number 10.”

The reason you’ve got a cold that just WON’T go away – and when it’s a sign of something more serious

IT’S that time of year again when we’re seemingly greeted with a new cough, sneeze or sniffle every week.

It’s as if as we beat one bug, another is always lurking around the corner, ready to strike.

Collage of a man and a girl coughing, with illustrations of coronaviruses and tissues.

And sometimes it can feel as if we get no respite from colds all winter, as once they arrive, they can be hard to shift.

Why is it that a good night’s sleep and lots of fruit and veg is enough to ward off some colds for years, while at other times they drag on into the spring?

A common cold is a “self-limiting viral illness which for adults, should clear up within a week,” Dr Roger Henderson, family GP and spokesperson for Olbas, tells The Sun.

For children, who’s immune systems are less developed “it often takes 10 to 14 days before they are fully recovered,” he adds.

However, it’s not uncommon for some symptoms to hang around for longer, according to pharmacist Thorrun Govind.

“Symptoms like a cough, fatigue or congestion can linger for up to three weeks after the infection has cleared,” she said.

“This doesn’t mean you still have the cold, but rather “it’s due to leftover inflammation in the airways, which can be pretty irritating,” she explained.

It’s no surprise then, that the average Brit is forced to take about six days off from work because of minor ailments each year.

What causes colds?

Common colds are caused by over “200 different viruses that affect the respiratory tract and sometimes the lungs,” Dr Roger explains.

“Rhinovirus is the most frequent culprit, but other viruses like coronaviruses (like Covid-19), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), human metapneumovirus (HMPV) and adenoviruses can also cause cold,” Thorrun adds.

On average, most of us will catch at least two of these bugs per year.

“They spread via droplets from coughing, sneezing or touching contaminated surfaces,” she explains.

These viruses attack and destroy the cells in your throat, which can leave your throat feeling dry and sore.

Without those cells working properly, it’s harder to clear mucus from your throat and nose.

Contrary to what many believe, cold weather or being chilled doesn’t cause a cold.

However, it’s true that more colds tend to happen during the colder months.

“This is typically due to schools reopening, where kids are in close contact, allowing the virus to spread quickly,” Thorrun explains.

“Plus, we generally spend more time indoors, which increases close proximity to others.”

There also tends to be lower humidity in the colder seasons, “causing dry nasal passages making them susceptible to cold viruses,” she adds.

Why is my cold hanging around?

There are several factors that could explain why colds seem to be lingering longer this winter.

For one, it could be that you never had a common cold in the first place.

Or, as Thorrun explains, you might have caught several viruses at once, like Covid.

While it used to cause more severe symptoms like a shortness of breath, newer versions typically lead to cold-like symptoms that can linger for a few weeks.

It could also be RSV, which causes cold-like symptoms in most people and can last up to two weeks.

Cases of RSV have been much higher this winter than in other years.

Meanwhile, HMPV, a flu-like virus that made headlines earlier this month for circulating in China, has also been on the rise in the UK. This illness can last for up to two weeks.

HMPV may cause cold-like symptoms but this should not leave you feeling too ill, ” Dr Simon Clarke, from the University of Reading, previously told The Sun.

“We’ve seen this virus every year for decades so we have pretty good immunity to it already.”

Research suggests that these viruses may thrive and reproduce better in colder temperatures, which makes it easier for them to spread and infect more people.

Cold weather may also reduce the immune response and make it harder for the body to fight off germs.

“Being tired, stressed or not eating healthy can also weaken the immune system, and leave you more vunerable to picking up a second infection,” Thorrun adds, “which can complicate recovery”.

Chart comparing symptoms of cold, flu, COVID-19, and RSV.

How can I prevent a cold?

“Handwashing remains the most effective way to reduce the spread of colds,” Dr Rodger says.

Parents and carers should always wash their hands after coughing, sneezing, or wiping their nose, and after being in direct contact with someone who has a cold.

Try and encourage kids to wash their hands regularly, especially before meals and after coming home from school.

“If soap and water aren’t available, try pre-moistened hand wipes or an alcohol-based hand sanitiser that’s gentle enough for young hands,” he adds.

Which cold and flu remedies actually work?

Sun Health reporter Isabel Shaw put nine well-known cold and flu remedies when she was struck with a lurgy.

Over the course of a week, she tried products targeted at all symptoms associated with cold and flu, as well as treatments that only aimed to get rid of specific issues.

These included:

  1. Hot honey and lemon
  2. Steam inhalation and Vicks Vaporub
  3. Echinacea
  4. Chicken soup
  5. A spicy curry
  6. Beechams All in One Oral Solution
  7. Strepsils
  8. Lemsip Max
  9. Sudafed Blocked Nose Spray

She took into account pain reduction, and how quickly and for how long they worked.

Read her full verdicts here

Getting enough sleep is essential for maintaining a strong immune system the expert explains,” so stick to a consistent bedtime routine.”

Eating a nutrient-rich diet is crucial for overall health.

“Focus on incorporating fresh fruits, vegetables, and nuts into your meals to provide essential immune-boosting nutrients like Vitamin C, antioxidants, and healthy fats,” the doctor says.

A balanced diet can also help reduce the severity of colds if they occur.

Unfortunately, hard evidence for whether supplements can help you to get over a long cold is lacking.

However, some supplements might be helpful if your diet isn’t quite cutting it or if you’ve got specific deficiencies that need addressing.

For that reason, “regular vitamin D and Zinc supplementation can help boost immunity”.

How can you treat a long-lasting cold?

“There is no cure for a cold but you can manage lingering symptoms,” Thorrun says.

“Steam inhalation can help relieve nasal congestion, gargling saltwater can also soothe a sore throat,” she explains.

“And over-the-counter medications such as decongestants, antihistamines or pain relief can also help”

Antibiotics do not work to treat viral illnesses such as cold, explains Dr Rodger.

“Make sure you drink lots of fluids, get as much rest as you are able to, there is usually no need to take time off school and work.”

When it your cold a sign of something more serious? And when should you see a GP?

Thorrun advises you see a GP if you “experience symptoms lasting longer than three weeks.”

Other reasons to see medical help are having a “high fever or chills that persist beyond the first few days or having difficulty breathing or have chest pain.”

Dr Roger adds that you should see your GP and “let them know you have developed cold symptoms “if you already have a weak immune system for any reason, such as having chemotherapy”.

Colds that don’t go away can develop into secondary conditions, “like ear and sinus infections (especially in children) and chest infections,” he adds.

Inside Annie Kilner’s fierce girl makeover & why it might make Kyle Walker FINALLY see sense

SHE’S been at the centre of one of the most talked-about affairs in the football and WAG world, but Annie Kilner knows how to keep her head above water.

Despite rumours swirling about a £27 million divorce being called off, and with her husband Kyle Walker preparing for a move to AC Milan, the mother-of-four seems to be embarking on a journey of her own.

This week, the 31-year-old unveiled a stunning new look ahead of what could be a major life change for her and her family.

Annie, who was expected to fly to Italy to join Kyle following the 34-year-old’s reported loan transfer, showcased an eye-catching new style.

Sporting long, dark braided hair, she paired it with a sparkly silver bikini top, a high-cut G-string, and low-slung jeans that accentuated her striking appearance – a far cry from a “typical mum posing in matching family pyjamas.”

A source told The Sun: “Annie has made it clear to friends she is making the move to Italy for the sake of her family, telling them, ‘I’m doing it for the boys’.

“Getting away from the UK and the noise surrounding Kyle’s sex scandals and drama with Lauryn is what they desperately need. They feel smothered.

“It’s been a traumatic 12 months and they now just want to put it behind them and attempt to lead some sort of normal existence for a while.”

Here, we take a look at Annie’s fierce girl makeover, and why it might make Kyle finally see sense.

Body Image

Annie, who boasts more than 82,000 followers on Instagram, unveiled her latest striking look ahead of a friend’s birthday party.

Body language expert Judi James believes Annie’s bold choice of statement dressing sends “precisely the right message” to her husband.

“The look is fierce and formidable and might produce some long-distance shocks for a husband who may be more accustomed to flowing hair and pouting lips,” explains Judi.

“This is not remotely the image of an emotionally vulnerable wife waiting at home to follow her husband abroad.

She complements this with narrowed eyes in her selfie, creating a sharp, almost dangerous aura

“Instead, Annie’s styling exudes confidence, self-esteem, and a complete understanding of her own worth and impact as she heads out for a night with the girls.

“It’s a far cry from the typical mum posing in matching family pyjamas to project bonding and cosy family vibes.”

Hair and Makeup

From her makeup to her hair, it’s clear that Annie has chosen 2025 as the year to reinvent her look.

Gone are the days of the signature bouncy blow-dry; the WAG has now embraced a far bolder hairstyle.

Her makeup has undergone a transformation as well, taking on a striking edge.

Judi comments: “Comparing her current ‘party girl’ vibe to a post from 2018 – when she sported blonde hair, soft eyeliner, and blush – it’s evident that Annie is making a statement as she steps into a significant chapter of her life.

“Her braided hair cascades down her body and over her cleavage, while the dark, upturned eyeliner gives her a fierce ‘cat’s eye’ effect.

“She complements this with narrowed eyes in her selfie, creating a sharp, almost dangerous aura.”

It seems that Annie has ditched the ‘nice top and jeans’ vibe, and has recently opted for a much more risque look.

From baring all in underwear, to wearing leather low cut trousers and a crop, according to her Instagram pictures, she is clearly not afraid to show it off.

A makeover can usually be interpreted as a powerful statement of independence and resilience

Talking about her most recent look, Judi says: “Her midriff is on display, and her arched back adds to the power pose, while the sequin bra is the perfect, attention-grabbing catnip for a crowded dancefloor.

“Meanwhile, her leather jacket oozes toughness, and the way she’s left it slouched casually around her back and waist adds an extra layer of challenge and confidence.”

Will Kyle see sense?

Annie has unveiled a striking new look, showcasing a sexy side that signifies a departure from her previous ‘nice girl’ image.

Relationship expert Annabelle Knight reveals why Annie’s move from “girl next door to smoking siren” might just be the push for Kyle.

She says: “For lots of people, navigating a breakup and altering your appearance is par for the course.

“A makeover can usually be interpreted as a powerful statement of independence and resilience, reflecting a readiness to embrace new beginnings and assert individuality.

“In the context of their relationship, which hasn’t been without its challenges – largely thanks to Kyle’s inability to stay faithful – this transformation may serve as a visual declaration of her strength and autonomy.

'Makeover' benefits

By Annabelle Knight, relationship expert

Why changing your look is positive:

  1. Boosts confidence
It helps you feel more empowered and confident, reminding yourself (and others) that you’re capable of moving on.
  2. Reclaims your identity
After a breakup, you might feel like you’ve lost yourself. Changing your look allows you to reconnect with who you.
  3. Signifies growth
A new appearance reflects the personal growth you’re undergoing. It’s a visual representation of shedding the old version of you and welcoming in the new.

What it says to the world:

  1. “I don’t need anyone else to feel good about myself”
A makeover sends a clear signal that you’re prioritising yourself and don’t need the validation of others to feel attractive or confident.
  2. “I’m Growing on my own”
It’s a reminder that you’re evolving as a person and don’t plan to stay stagnant in an old version of yourself.
  3. “I’m good, whether with someone or on my own”
The new look can highlight your independence – especially if it helps you to radiate self-assurance and positivity.

“By embracing a sexy new image, she’s showing Kyle her ability to move forward confidently. In essence, she’s her own woman, and he needs to recognise that.

“Annie’s transformation could be exactly what Kyle needs to see her in a whole new way, appreciate her renewed sense of self, and recognise the direction she envisions for their future together.

Whether anybody notices or not, the most important thing is the renewed sense of control and confidence it can give you

Annabelle KnightRelationship expert

“This bold step may indeed be the push needed for Kyle to ‘see sense’ and acknowledge the strength and determination Annie brings to their partnership.

“Ultimately, changing your look after a breakup, during a tough time in your relationship, or just because you fancy it, is an empowering act of self-care.

“Whether anybody notices or not, the most important thing is the renewed sense of control and confidence it can give you.”
