Nightmare WhatsApp glitch allows users to see ‘View Once’ photos multiple times – how to fix it in seconds
A WHATSAPP bug allowing people to bypass the app’s ‘View Once’ feature has been fixed – but users will need to update their app.
The loophole allowed users to access photos and videos that should have vanished after one viewing.
Content sent under the View Once feature will automatically disappear from chats after being opened for the first time[/caption]The Meta-owned messenger, used by two billion people worldwide, was alerted to the issue by cybersecurity researcher Ramshath last week.
The security flaw, which only impacted iPhone users, allowed anyone to see ‘View Once’ content in the stored media section of their app Settings.
WhatsApp has released a fix in an updated version of the iOS app, titled 25.2.3.
While the flaw has been patched up, Ramshath said in a Medium post that it has “significant privacy implications” and could spark “trust issues” among users who rely on the feature to share private media.
“Features that promise privacy should deliver on their word,” said Ramshath. “Anything less puts user confidence at risk.”
The View Once feature, introduced in 2022, means certain media and messages cannot be reopened, screenshot, or screen recorded.
Content sent under the View Once feature will automatically disappear from chats after being opened for the first time.
A separate but similar ‘View Once’ loophole emerged last year, when hackers were able to save and share copies of private media.
Cybersecurity researchers at Zengo discovered that hackers could turn off the View Once feature after the content has been sent.
This allowed the media to be downloaded, forwarded and shared.
The cyber flaw, believed to have been actively used by cyber crooks, existed for over a year before being publicly reported, according to Zengo’s chief technology officer, Tal Be’ery.
WhatsApp fixed the other View Once flaw last year.

One Direction spark reunion rumours as Zayn Malik is joined at gig by bandmate after Liam Payne’s tragic death
ONE Direction fans’ hopes for a reunion were bolstered last night as Zayn Malik was joined by a former bandmate at his solo gig in LA.
Louis Tomlinson blended in with the crowd to watch Zayn perform his smooth R&B, but word quickly reached the singer that his friend was in attendance.
Zayn Malik was watched by Louis Tomlinson at a gig in LA[/caption]He told the crowd: “Alright so tonight’s kind of special, I know a friend of mine is here to support me tonight, he’s somewhere here I don’t want to give his location away but Louis’ here…”
The audience went absolutely crazy, squealing in delight at the mention of Louis’ name.
Doncaster lad Louis smiled and clapped his chest while standing on a balcony towards the back of the theatre.
One fan on X wrote: “I’m going to explode.”
Another said: “I’m sobbing so hard.”
Another wrote: “This makes my heart happy.”
Former Direction stars Zayn, Louis, Niall Horan and Harry Styles have been brought closer together in recent months following the tragic death of Liam Payne.
The music world was rocked when Liam died after falling from his hotel’s third floor balcony in Argentina while intoxicated.
His bandmates each issued heartfelt statements after his death and reunited to pay their respects at his funeral in November.
Zayn has since paid tribute to Liam on his solo tour.
There are also murmurings that the 1D lads could get together at the Brit Awards to honour their late friend.
A music industry source said: “The tribute to Liam at this year’s awards show has caused a real buzz and speculation that the remaining One Direction bandmates could finally come back together again on stage.
“It would be an entirely fitting way to honour Liam and talks are already under way about how to make this segment of the Brits unforgettable.
“Liam loved the Brit Awards and attended and performed many times over the years, both with 1D and as a solo artist, and will forever be part of the show’s history.
“It’s still in the very early stages of preparation and the finer details are still being worked out, with official approaches to be made in coming weeks, but there are set to be a mixture of performances, tasteful photo and video montages and a live orchestra.
“As well as the possibility of the One Direction lads being involved, other stars from the industry will be on hand to remember Liam on the night.”

Trainer Karl Henry reveals reason you might feel sick after exercising and why ‘Go Hard or Go Home’ doesn’t work
PERSONAL trainer Karl Henry has revealed the truth behind feeling nauseous during exercise during the 40 Day Health Challenge.
And the coach also shared why the ‘Go Hard or Go Home’ attitude doesn’t work.
Trish Buckley, from Raheny in Dublin, admitted she felt sick at times while training.
Self-confessed wine lover Trish lost 1.3kg in the first week of the challenge – dropping from 72.6kg to 71.3kg.
Now half way through the challenge, Karl revealed Trish’s progress to date.
Karl said: “First and foremost, you were 72.6 kilos on day one. Today, 69.3 kilos – eight pounds down.”
Fellow recruits from the challenge cheered Trish on for her major weight loss.
Karl continued: “So starting day one, you were 57 from a metabolic perspective, today, 49.”
The 53-year-old joked that she would be a child by the time the challenge is over.
Karl added: “There’s nothing like a decade shift with a metabolic age profile.”
The experts discussed how feeling nauseous during exercise is “quite common”.
Karl said: “What I will say is it isn’t a sign of an effective workout.
“It isn’t a sign of progress. It isn’t necessarily a positive sign. Some people love it.
“There is a new trend exercise wise in the country, which is, it’s go hard or go home and you’re not working out unless you’re vomiting on the way out. That’s not what we aim for.”
The health pro explained that people don’t have to be “really sore” after a workout.
He said: “The point is, the reassurance piece, really from us, I wanted to bring it up, is that actually, what you’re doing is perfect.
“You’re pushing yourself hard, you’re red faced, you’re slightly out of breath, you’re tired after the workouts.
“You’re struggling a little in some of the exercises. Yeah, that is all normal. That is all progression.”
Recruit Trish told how she has already accomplished a major goal since starting the challenge.
HOW TO WATCH THE EPISODES
THE latest episodes of the 40 Day Health Challenge are now available at the 40dayhealthchallenge.ie.
Readers can also follow all the action and get the latest updates, meal plans, exercises and mental health tips from Thesun.ie and Ireland’s Classic Hits Radio during the 40 days.
She said: “My aim on this show was after 40 days that I could run a 5k and I did that two weeks ago already in 36 minutes.
“Because I said ‘I will definitely run a 5k at the end of it’ and I ran it in two weeks. And that’s because of all your help.”
Karl added: “Your body adapts as it gets stronger. It recovers faster with the right food on board.
“Afterwards, it recovers quicker. So you recover quicker overnight, the change makes it more difficult.
“So we change every 10 days throughout the phases of the plan. So it does get more challenging.”
Kidney Bean Chilli con Carne
Serves 2 (each serving contains approximately 502 kcal)
Suitable for vegetarians.
Ingredients:
80g wholegrain rice
1 onion (150g)
1 garlic clove (4g)
1 tbsp olive or rapeseed oil (15g)
1 tsp chili powder (5g)
1 tsp ground cumin (5g)
1 tsp ground coriander (5g)
1 small courgette (150g)
400g tin kidney beans, drained and rinsed (240g)
400g tin chopped tomatoes
2 heaped tbsp quark (40g)
1 tbsp chopped toasted cashew nuts (15g)
The method:
Rinse the rice in a sieve under cold running water and add to a saucepan with 250ml of water. Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat to very low and cover with a lid.
Cook for 20-25 minutes or the rice is tender, and all the water has been absorbed.
Meanwhile, heat a large non-stick frying pan over a medium heat. Peel and finely dice the onion and mince the garlic.
Add the oil to the pan and sauté the onion and garlic for 2-3 minutes until softened.
Trim and cut the courgette into small chunks. Stir the spices into the onion mixture and then stir in the courgette and cook for another 2-3 minutes until sizzling.
Pour in the kidney beans and tomatoes with a splash of water, then reduce the heat to low and simmer gently for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Spoon the rice into bowls and add the kidney bean chilli.
Add a dollop of quark to each one and scatter over the cashew nuts to serve.
*Suitable for batch cooking.

Beach town reveals huge waterfront masterplan with new restaurants, attractions and skate park
A HUGE new development is set to transform a seaside town dubbed the ‘jewel of Wales’.
Porthcawl, in Wales, is home to 16,000 and was even the hometown of both Gavin and Stacey stars Ruth Jones and Rob Bryden.
Porthcrawl’s huge new development will include attractions, restaurants and cafes[/caption] The plans also include 1,100 homes[/caption]And its new waterfront plan is set to transform it with new attractions.
A new skatepark, pump track and mini golf course have been confirmed.
Other plans include splash parks, play areas and woodland attractions with treetop walks and climbing walls.
Seasonal events could include local fairs and fairgrounds too.
Restaurants, shops and cafes will also line the seafront.
And 1,100 homes will also be built as part of the development, across three parts of town including Sandy Bay, Coney Beach and Salt Lake.
Councillor Neelo Farr of Porthcawl said: “Public consultation has proven to be a cornerstone of our efforts to regenerate Porthcawl and you only have to look at the illustrative masterplan to see how we have included as many of the ideas and facilities suggested by local residents as possible into our final stage proposals.
“Whether it is a pump track and skate park, a multi-use games area, room for new shops, cafes, restaurants and kiosks, pocket parks, interactive fountains and water features, new play areas for children of all ages, extensive green landscaping, potential mini-golf and overnight parking for motorhomes, or just plenty of flexible open space which can be used to host seasonal events ranging from fairs and fairground rides to ice rinks and speciality markets the waterfront regeneration masterplan really demonstrates the scope of Bridgend County Borough Council and Welsh Government’s joint ambitious vision for the area.
“With a substantial green corridor winding through the regeneration zone before reconnecting with the waterfront, Griffin Park could more than triple in size and benefit from a wide range of new facilities, such as a climbing wall and a fully equipped fitness trail, while Sandy Bay will be transformed with new coastal defences in the form of impressive stepped revetments leading down onto the beach and all-new retail opportunities facing out onto the promenade.”
She added: “To make sure that the housing element is fully rounded we have also included a huge variety of opportunities for new leisure infrastructure as well as shops, cafes, and restaurants, space to allow potential expansion and growth at Newton Primary, and evenly-distributed parking facilities.
“We have also proposed introducing landscaped natural play areas including adventure, woodland and tree-top play facilities, studio space suitable for creative industries, cycle hubs, a duneside park featuring enhanced habitats, raised boardwalks, activity and viewing platforms, event space, and much more.”
Despite being one of the largest towns in Wales, its train station closed in 1963.
However, the new development will also see the closure of Coney Beach Pleasure Park.
The 105-year-old theme park was named after the one in New York, and has 20 rides.
In the mean time, the town also has a huge Parkdean holiday park which had a huge £3.5million revamp in 2022.
And the town is even home to the world’s biggest Elvis festival.
Another seaside town is set to reopen an abandoned attraction that closed 20 years ago.
Great Yarmouth’s Winter Gardens first opened in the 1880s but fell into disrepair.
New plans hope to reopen it as a multi-use venue, restoring many of the Victorian features as well.
Here is another huge seaside development set to open in the UK.

THE Apprentice star Karren Brady has shared her view on former Love Island star Molly-Mae Hague getting into business amid backlash to her Maebe brand.
The social media influencer has made being a businesswoman the forefront of her brand in a move akin to Kim Kardashian.
Karren Brady has defended Molly-Mae and other celebrities who get into business[/caption] The star sparked backlash when setting up her recent Maebe brand[/caption]Her recent Prime Video documentary series chronicled her getting her fashion brand off the ground and up and running.
But it did not come without its backlash – there was criticism over the stock levels and quality of the items, as well as Molly’s business acumen.
Business mogul Karren has now defended celebrities-turned-business wannabes and admitted the business world is fair game for anyone as long as they have drive and ambition.
When asked what she makes of Molly-Mae and other famous faces increasingly focusing on business, Karren told The Sun: “Ambition is not a God-given right.
“It’s not my God-given right to be ambitious. It’s available to anyone in the world.
“Lots of people have ideas for businesses but many of them don’t have the know-how or the encouragement or the backing or the energy or the persistence and resilience that you need to turn that idea into a business.
“So I think anyone who takes that bold step, it doesn’t matter where you come from, who you are, what you’ve got, what you’ve achieved, to have that step and go and do it and run a successful business, I’ve got huge admiration from them.
“I don’t care whether they came from Eton or came from Love Island.
“To me, it’s all the same, it doesn’t matter.”
Molly-Mae was previously criticised for claiming everyone has “the same 24 hours in a day” as a way of describing how she was able to make millions and turn all of her work ventures into a success.
It faced furious backlash from those who called out Molly for forgetting the opportunities and platform she had been given as a result of her TV fame.
Last year, she backtracked on the statement by admitting she did not get her wording right and her intention clear.
In an interview with British Vogue, the Love Island star explained: “Obviously, I meant absolutely no malice or anything ill-intended by that comment at all. Would I have worded it slightly differently now? One-hundred per cent, as to not upset anybody.
“But you’re not always going to get it right, living your life in the public eye.”
The Apprentice begins tonight at 9pm on BBC One.
