‘A new one on me’ – Kyren Wilson left stunned as German Masters snooker semi-final is delayed by NAIL

KYREN WILSON’S march to the German Masters snooker final was delayed — by a NAIL!

Last year’s world champ saw off Xiao Guodong 6-2 in his semi-final at  Berlin’s Tempodrom.

The nail had to be prised out by a member of staff during the German Masters[/caption]

But not before play had to be stopped because of a nail sticking out of the arena’s carpet.

The Warrior from Kettering was 10-1 up in the opening frame when he realised it was in his way.

The stunned 33-year-old told the referee: “It’s just right where I’m standing.”

Play was then halted and a staff member quickly prised it out.

The moment shocked Eurosport commentator, Phil Studd who thought he had seen it all in the sport.

“Something is stuck in the carpet, possibly a nail that is proving to be a bit of a distraction for Wilson,” said Studd.

“There is always something new in this sport, isn’t there? We have even had rain stopping play in the past.

“Nails stopping play is a new one for me.

“I mean I guess the surprise is that the nail has not been noticed before now; this is day six of seven [of the tournament].”

Wilson resumed to sweep into a 3-0 lead against world No 17 Xiao.

And he kept his nerve to set up the chance to repeat his 2019 success in today’s final.

Wilson said: “I’ve experienced this amazing crowd, this amazing atmosphere with the one table.

“It is one of my favourite venues.

“It is my fourth time on the one-table set-up. I knew what to expect.
“I knew I could maybe put pressure on Xiao.

“I knew he might be a little bit nervous as there is nowhere like this.
“It is job done and I’m into the final. That’s the main thing.”

A source said of the couple, of Barrow, Cumbria: “They were going through a rocky patch. He was so apologetic.”

Jake hit it off with a work pal at an office party two months after his wedding — sparking fury from his wife.

The workmates grew close over five months and comforted each other as they both battled problems at home.

But his new wife Shannon grew suspicious and ordered him to end the friendship.

A source said: “She wasn’t happy, she was furious and confronted Jake. She told him it had to stop.”

The pair, who both work for the same company in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, hit it off at an early Christmas party in November 2023.

Shannon and Jake have been together since 2015 and married on September 15, 2023, at the Daffodil Hotel & Spa in Grasmere.

Shannon posted photographs from the wedding on her Instagram, with the caption: “Best day of our lives.”

But according to friends the couple soon endured a “rocky patch”.

Project manager Jake’s 24-year-old work pal, who we are not naming, had bought a house with her boyfriend of three years, but was also having relationship troubles.

A source said: “Jake had become close to this woman and they were hanging out.

“They confided in each other. They’d meet up and lean on each other for comfort and support. But the longer it went on, Shannon grew suspicious of the friendship.”

The source claims Shannon messaged the woman and contacted her boyfriend.

They said: “Shannon met the guy for coffee to let him know her concerns.

“He was shocked but his and the woman’s relationship had ended by the time Shannon met him, so he was glad to see the back of her.”

Jake, who has cerebral palsy, declared on the show: “I am and I have always been, a Faithful.”

He called time on the friendship weeks before he started filming for the third series.

The source said he was devastated he had upset Shannon and “very apologetic”.

They said: “Jake reassured Shannon he and the colleague were just friends and that there wasn’t anything more to it. He and Shannon have been together since teenagers and are very much in love.

“Shannon is incredibly supportive, especially when he struggles with his cerebral palsy.

“Jake didn’t want to ruin things so called off his friendship with the girl out of respect for his wife.”

The couple have since vowed to work through their issues.

A close friend of Jake told The Sun on Sunday last night: “It was a friendship built on mutual support of each other during a rocky time in their relationships. However, this is well and truly behind them.”

A spokesperson for Jake said: “Jake’s marriage is the most important thing to him. He and Shannon have been together ten years and are very happy.”

Jake soared to fame on The Traitors which ended last month and sees contestants weeding out liars.

Dubbed “The Traitor Hunter” after correctly identifying Linda Rands as a Traitor, Jake quickly became a favourite to win.

He and ex-soldier Leanne Quigley split the £96,600 prize, with 7.4million people watching last month’s finale.

Jake later said in an interview: “I’m glad I was a Faithful, I’m glad the outcome was the outcome, because I’m now £47,000 richer!”

After his win he praised Shannon, saying: “Feeling very blessed. I owe everything to my wife and to my family, not just for being my No1 supporter but for shaping me into the person I am today.”

In media interviews he described Shannon as his “rock” and said he planned to use the prize money to whisk her away on holiday.

Last week the couple were invited to the world premiere of the movie Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy in London’s Leicester Square.

Shannon also posed with Jake and Traitors host Claudia Winkleman at the show’s wrap party.

Jake has had cerebral palsy since birth.

The condition affects his co-ordination and balance but he hasn’t let it hamper him.

He is using his new fame to raise awareness about the condition.

Sick paedophile gangs making millions of pounds from AI-generated sexual abuse images are facing a legal blitz

PAEDOPHILE gangs making millions of pounds from sick AI-generated sexual abuse images are facing a legal blitz.

Britain is set to become the first country in the world with artificial intelligence sex abuse offences.

Jess Phillips said: ‘I would implore Big Tech to take seriously its responsibility to protect kids and not provide safe spaces for this offending’[/caption]

Police are worried about a booming black market in material made with AI that is shared in paedophile groups.

Some criminals are earning £1million salaries by selling AI tools and guides on how to create images, sources say.

The announcement of the new offences comes weeks after a bust-up between the British Government and Elon Musk over child grooming.

The boss of social media site X tore into Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips for refusing to hold a Home Office-led public inquiry into historic sexual abuse.

But as Labour unveiled the crackdown, Ms Phillips said: “Everyone has a role to play, and I would implore Big Tech to take seriously its responsibility to protect kids and not provide safe spaces for this offending.”

Plans say anyone using AI tools designed to create child sexual abuse images will face up to five years in prison.

People caught with AI “paedophile manuals” teaching others how to create images face up to three years in jail.

And ringleaders running websites for paedos will face sentences of up to ten years.

Border Force will have new powers to make suspects unlock devices for inspection.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said: “We know sick predators’ activities online often lead to them carrying out the most horrific abuse in person.

“This Government will not hesitate to act to ensure the safety of children online by ensuring our laws keep pace with the latest threats.

“These four new laws are bold measures designed to keep our children safe online as technologies evolve.

“It is vital that we tackle child sexual abuse online as well as offline so we can better protect the public from new and emerging crimes.”

Police have seen a surge in people modifying AI models to create sick images like “nudeifying” real photos of children.

They make images to order using AI tools and even use the real-life voices of children in generated material.

The gangs also market content and build websites.

AI allows criminals to disguise their own identity to groom children online[/caption]

They use fake images to blackmail children into abuse and stream it live to other paedophiles.

In a boost for The Sun’s Keep Our Kids Safe campaign, the Government will crack down on sextortion groups, who pretend to be someone else to trick children, and groups, that encourage children to self-harm.

They use message apps such as Telegram to communicate, where some sick groups have 60,000 members, sources say.

AI also allows criminals to disguise their own identity to groom children online.

Ministers fear the AI images are normalising sexual violence towards children and leading those who view it to offend in real life.

Some content is so realistic that cops are unable to tell the difference between AI videos and real ones.

Groom children online

And the amount of AI sexual abuse images is soaring, according to the Internet Watch Foundation.

Over a 30-day period in 2024, the charity identified 3,512 AI child sexual abuse images on one dark web site.

The number of Category A images — which are the most severe — had risen by ten per cent since 2023.

Reports of AI-generated child sexual abuse images have risen 380 per cent — with 245 reports last year compared to 51 in 2023. Each report can contain thousands of images.

The IWF’s Derek Ray-Hill said the speed AI abuse had advanced was frightening.

He added: “It is a nightmare scenario and any child can now be made a victim, with life-like images of them being sexually abused obtainable with only a few prompts and a few clicks.

‘Nightmare scenario’

“The availability of this AI content further fuels sexual violence against children. It emboldens and encourages abusers, and it makes real children less safe.”

The point was driven home in a raid by Hertfordshire police last week on the home of two men suspected of contacting children online for sexual purposes.

The cops took “digital dogs” on the swoop, which can sniff out hidden devices such as phones and laptops.

It comes after graphic design student Hugh Nelson, of Bolton, was jailed for 18 years for using AI to create abuse images with photos of real kids.

In the first prosecution of its kind in the UK, Nelson was convicted last summer.

He sold his images in online chat rooms where he made around £5,000 over 18 months.

The new laws will be introduced as part of the forthcoming Crime and Policing Bill.

Telegram said: “Moderators empowered with custom AI and machine learning tools proactively monitor public parts of the platform and accept reports in order to remove millions of pieces of harmful content each day.

“Every piece of media uploaded to Telegram’s public platform is compared with a database of everything moderators have ever removed in order to prevent the spread of child sexual abuse material.

“More than 61,000 groups and channels related to child sexual abuse material have been banned in January alone.”

Angela Rayner called Prince Andrew ‘that nonce’ in astonishing rant amid Jeffrey Epstein scandal

ANGELA Rayner called Prince Andrew “that nonce” in an astonishing rant after his friendship with paedophile Jeffrey Epstein was exposed, according to a new book.

Referring to discussions on whether to dump Andrew from the monarchy, she reportedly said: “I’m not going to vote to keep that nonce on…

“I can’t go back to my constituency and say, yeah, I support that.”

The most damaging comment from a senior MP about a member of the royal family was today revealed in a book about Keir Starmer’s Labour.

In a chapter on Rayner, from the book titled Get In, authors Patrick Maguire and Gabriel Pogrund tell how forcefully the now Deputy Prime Minister dealt with royal issues after the Queen died.

As the opposition’s Commons spokeswoman on questions relating to the monarchy, she reportedly advocated excluding Andrew from royal duties entirely after allegations emerged he sexually abused a 17-year-old and had a close relationship with Epstein — which he has denied.

In 2022, Andrew paid accuser Virginia Giuffre an undisclosed sum, reported to be £12million, to settle her claim for sex assault without admission of wrongdoing.

According to her adviser, Ms Rayner, 44, said: “I know how difficult it is to be in a big, dysfunctional family where you’ve got the black sheep, they’re damaging to you but they’re still your family.”

But she wanted him gone. In the book, an adviser recalled: “She was very actively reaching out to the Palace, and said she thought this was a huge problem, and that the Government needed to address it.

“She’s not anti-monarchist, but she doesn’t like a paedo.”

After her comments, Ms Rayner was said to have been summoned for a Zoom meeting with Cabinet Secretary Simon Case.

The book claims: “After that conversation, she went quiet. She never ever spoke about the royals like that again.”

It comes after emails emerged this week of Andrew telling Epstein in February 2011 to “keep in close touch”, despite claiming in his Newsnight interview that he ceased contact in 2010.

Details also emerged of his relationship with alleged spy Yang Tengbo.

US lawyer Spencer Kurvin, who has represented Epstein’s victims, last night said the King should “hand over Andrew for the FBI to fully investigate his conduct”.

Dan, 47, will join Ukrainian Nadiya, 35, on her new tour.

She recently posted a pic of them and wrote: “Great to catch up with my old Strictly partner Mr Dan Walker.”

The pair performed a jive to The B-52’s hit Rock Lobster when placed fifth in 2021.

Nadiya added two lobster emojis and, referring to upcoming Q&As in Sheffield and Barnsley, said: “May even persuade him to show us a few steps.”

She put the shellfish on her Instagram story when a fan asked if married dad-of-three Dan was on her tour.

Nadiya, who split from Strictly pro Kai Widdrington last July, is often seen with Dan at showbiz events.

Last week they attended The Radio Times Covers Party in London and Dan wrote: “I had a very important job . . . handbag holder for some glamorous ladies.

“I also held on to the belongings of two-time world champion Nadiya Bychkova.”

Nadiya replied: “Thanks partner! You are the best”, again adding two lobsters.

Beware the Dry Jan danger zone! 6 tips to stay on the wagon after a month off booze

DRY January is finally over.

And if you decided to ban booze last month, your body and mind will be thanking you big time, especially if “silly season” was a little sillier than planned.

The World Health Organization says there is no safe amount of alcohol

A timeline of what happens when you go sober

But before you start knocking back pints to celebrate, remember that the World Health Organization says there is no safe amount of alcohol.

Not only can it impair memory, judgment, coordination and give you a nasty hangover, it also increases your risk of liver disease, heart disease, mental health problems and cancer.

A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that just a single glass of alcohol each week could increase your risk of at least six types of cancer — stomach, breast, liver, mouth, oesophageal, and bowel.

But quitting booze for five to nine years was shown to reduce mouth cancer risk by 34 per cent.

Separate research by Oxford University found that moderate drinkers (those who consume about six to nine pints a week) were three times more likely to have hippocampal atrophy, a marker for Alzheimer’s disease, compared to abstainers.

Plus, when you go sober, you save serious calories — and cash.

The average UK pint now costs just under £5 and contains around 200 calories, while a standard 175ml glass of wine will set you back £4.80 and packs around 150 calories.

So it’s safe to say that staying on the wagon will support your health and wallet.

But if booze is entrenched in your life, then giving up can be hard. So whether you conquered Dry January or not, here’s how to cut back and keep at it . . .

FIND YOUR ‘WHY’

WHY exactly do you want to reduce your alcohol intake? Is it for your health? To save money? To lose some weight?

Victoria Lawson, clinical lead for psychology at NHS weight management provider Oviva, tells Sun on Sunday Health: “Write down your reason and share it with someone you trust for extra accountability.”

You can even stick a note on your fridge for a constant reminder.

SPICE THINGS UP

PINPOINT the times you typically reach for a drink. Maybe it’s after work on a Friday, Saturday night at the pub, or over Sunday dinner at home. Then think about how you can spice up your alternatives.

Victoria says: “When you’re at home, perhaps you could trade your wine for an alcohol-free version, or make your soft drinks feel special by serving them in your favourite glass, adding ice, or garnishing with dried lemon slices, fresh fruit or a sprig of rosemary.

“When you’re out, explore the mocktail menu or selection of zero per cent beers.”

There’s no need to stick to plain water or lemonade.

GET ’APPY

TRACK your booze-free days with an app such as Try Dry or Drink Less.

Try Dry (free, iOS and Android), created by Alcohol Change UK, tracks your units, calories and money saved, and also helps you to understand your drinking patterns and cravings.

Research shows that using the app can double your chances of having a month totally alcohol-free.

Millie Gooch, founder of the Sober Society, says: “It’s packed with features to help you stay motivated to cut back or ditch alcohol altogether.”

Drink Less (free iOS), developed at University College London, monitors your progress, and a report published this week suggested it could reduce alcohol-related deaths by 4,600 and hospital admissions by 188,400 over the next 20 years, saving the NHS £590million.

In his Sun column, TV and radio presenter Adrian Chiles said he used the app to reduce his intake from 100 units (about 44 pints) per week to 20 units (about nine pints) after a doctor told him that he had signs of liver damage.

PLAN FOR CURVEBALLS

NO ONE is perfect, and it’s only human to slip up a little.

That’s especially true if you turn to booze when you are stressed or you always drink at social occasions.

Victoria says: “Practise feeling confident in saying, ‘I’m not drinking tonight’ in advance, or let people know you’re off the booze straight away.”

If stress is a trigger, Victoria says that calming exercises such as walking, talking to a friend, mindfulness, or deep breathing can help to distract your mind.

Millie adds: “Bring your favourite alcohol-free drink to a party or pick venues that don’t revolve around booze, such as board game bars or crazy golf.”

MARK YOUR MILESTONES

WHETHER it’s your first weekend alcohol-free or you’ve managed 28 consecutive days, you deserve to recognise your achievements. “Staying teetotal is no small feat, so celebrate your milestones,” Millie says.

“Use the money you’re saving to treat yourself, whether it’s a fancy coffee, or even a bigger splurge at the end of the month.

“Positive reinforcement can make the journey feel more rewarding and keep you motivated to see it through.”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

IF you completed Dry January and noticed improvements in your sleep, skin, energy, focus and overall health, then why would you not continue?

“Notice how sobriety impacts your body and mind,” says Millie. “Keeping benefits in mind can help you maintain healthier habits beyond January.”
