‘No one is above the law’ Prince Harry’s visa fight is ‘concerning’ – Donald Trump won’t give up, reveals royal expert

PRINCE Harry’s visa fight is “concerning” and “no one is above the law”, a royal expert has claimed.

A judge ruled last year that The Duke of Sussex‘s visa documents would not be made public despite his admission that he took drugs.

His reference to taking cocaine, marijuana and psychedelic mushrooms in his book Spare prompted a conservative Washington, DC think tank to question why he was allowed into the US in 2020.

And in this week’s episode of The Sun’s Royal Exclusive, News.com.au’s Royal Reporter Bronte Coy said his visa fight is “concerning”.

She said: “The new US President has made no secret about his position on it. He’s been asked about it so many times over the years.

“I genuinely believe Donald Trump has much more important things to be dealing with.

“But it’s probably something that’s not going away especially as it continues to get this attention.

“I think that in itself will be concerning because The Heritage Foundation, who is the one pushing to have the application made public, has also lobbied and urged Donald Trump to intervene.

“It has said this is about accountability and no one is above the law which is also concerning if they maintain that level of profile on the case.”

The newly elected president previously vowed if he was voted back into office that “Harry is on his own”.

In a major boost for the 40-year-old, Judge Carl Nichols said Harry had a “reasonable privacy interest” in relation to his US immigration paperwork and therefore it should stay private.

The judge did, however, agree Harry had revealed “intimate details” of his life in his memoir – which included a description of his private parts freezing.

And Harry’s privacy interests were somewhat diminished by him being a public figure, the judge said.

The decision comes after Judge Nichols spent five months reviewing Harry’s immigration file as part of a case brought by the Heritage Foundation.

The organisation sued the Department of Homeland Security after it refused a Freedom of Information request to see immigration files on Harry — now a US resident.

Heritage claims Harry may have lied on the forms under the section which asks if you have been a drug user.

In his ruling seen in court documents, Judge Nichols said “the public does not have a strong interest in disclosure of the duke’s immigration records”.

His judgement added: “Like any foreign national, the duke has a legitimate privacy interest in his immigration status.

“And the duke’s public statements about his travel and drug use did not disclose, and therefore did not eliminate his interest in keeping private, specific information regarding his immigration status, applications, or other materials.”

‘Dad’s fans helped get us through his death’, reveals Dickie Rock’s son as he prepares to honour icon with special show

THE heartbroken son of showbiz legend Dickie Rock has spoken for the first time about life without their dad and cried: “The fans helped get us through it.”

In the family’s first interview since the singer passed away on December 6 aged 88, Jason Rock told how he and brother Richard plan to keep their father’s music alive in a new show singing his songs.

And Jason recounted the struggle all his children had getting over their dad’s death — but revealed they have been lifted by a huge mail bag from fans all over Ireland who continue to mourn their father.

Jason, 54, and Richard, 50, both sang at Dickie’s funeral in Dublin’s Cabra West just a few streets from where the dad-of-six grew up.

Now they plan to sing some of the showband icon’s biggest hits at a new musical show dedicated to him.

Asked what Dickie would make of his sons performing his greatest hits, Jason joked to The Irish Sun: “‘You’re not doing it right’ — that’s what Dad would be saying!”

But Jason and Richard will have their dad’s own musical director, Eugene McCarthy, and his backing group, The Sugarcubes Big Band, for the Celebrating Dickie Rock concert, which is taking place at Dublin’s National Concert Hall on April 19.

Jason told us: “It’s been so hard for me trying to master these songs because whether it was There’s Always Me or Come Back To Stay, my dad really inhabited these songs when he sang them.

“The love, loss, pain and anguish he sang about. Dad believed in the lyrics he was singing and put his heart and soul into it. That’s why they are so hard to cover.

“I’ve have been listening to Dad’s songs, trying to learn them for the concert and the more you listen to them, the more you hear what the songs are about.”

Beloved Dickie represented Ireland in the 1966 Eurovision Song Contest, finishing fourth. And he was still entertaining audiences in his 80s.

But Jason watched his sprightly dad crumble after his beloved mum Judy died in 2022, after contracting Covid-19 at the age of 77.

He said: “If my dad wasn’t singing, he was on the golf course or with mum. The years after she died were so tough for him.”

However, Jason recalls how the kindness Dickie showed other performers during his long career was repaid.

KIND ACTS

He said: “My dad had a bad fall last February and hurt himself very badly. He ended up in an ambulance to hospital.

“When he was admitted to A&E, a doctor showed up at his bedside and told Dad they had once performed together at the same concert for Prince Rainier of Monaco when the doctor had been a young Irish dancer. The gig was a showcase for Irish talent in Monaco.

“He said Dad was the biggest act on the bill but had come backstage to make sure all the young dancers had been fed and were OK.

“The doctor said now it was his turn to look after Dad. It was a lovely story and it gave Dad back his dignity when he felt so helpless.”

HEARTWARMING MESSAGES

And Jason said that since his dad’s passing last year, the family had been consoled by other messages about their dad’s generosity.

He said: “A guy contacted us and said his mum had been homeless back in the Seventies, and Dad gave her two grand for a deposit and to get back on our feet.

“He said nobody knew this but it was a story in his family and he wanted to thank us for what Dad had done.”

The Rock family also said they had also been moved by the huge turnout at Dickie’s funeral, with Jason telling us: “There were people who drove five hours to be there and five hours back home.

“It was a beautiful service but there were so many touching aspects to the funeral we had no hand or part in, like the arch of pool cues that Dad’s coffin went under as it came out of the church. Ken Doherty organised that in tribute to Dad’s love of snooker.

‘IT WAS VERY MOVING’

Thanking those who had been at the Church of the Most Precious Blood, in Cabra West, for the service, Jason acknowledged there were many older fans of Dickie who were unable to attend.

He said: “It was just too cold. But when the funeral cortege went through Cabra West you could see all the older people standing at their doors in respect of my dad. It was very moving.”

And Jason recalled how he had driven his dad back up to Cabra in his final days.

He said: “Dad wanted to go back up there because it had so many memories for him. The whole north inner city where he grew up, first in Donnycarney and then Cabra, where his family moved to when he was six or seven. They were very special places for my dad.”

Jason revealed how the family were going through a seismic shift with their dad gone.

“It’s been so hard for me trying to master these songs because whether it was There’s Always Me or Come Back To Stay, my dad really inhabited these songs when he sang them.”

Jason Rock

He said: “There were two people. Dickie Rock and the stage persona he took on, and then the other person was my dad. I’m sure it’s the same for Bono’s kids. To them he’s not Bono of U2. He’s just dad.”

Along with the sadness, Jason recalled the fun his father had with his Dickie Rock persona.

The star — famous for having adoring fans shout “Spit on me, Dickie” at him — once slammed Miley Cyrus for spitting water over fans at her concert in the 3Arena.

Jason laughs: “Dad’s comments about that or him saying he wanted to box Johnny Logan for slagging him, how big those stories became proved how much the Irish people loved him back.”

SHOW NERVES

While nervous about taking to the stage with his brother Richard to sing their dad’s iconic songs in April, Jason said he believed he was in good hands with Dickie’s own MD in charge of the show.

Jason said: “We will sing whatever Eugene and the fans want us to sing in memory of Dad.”

The concert is sure to be well attended like Dickie’s funeral last December, where celebrant Father Brian D’Arcy told mourners pal Dickie would be delighted he had a full house for his last gig and that he was being laid to rest on December 12, the birthday of his hero Frank Sinatra.

Jason added: “We can’t thank Father Brian enough. He clocks up more miles around Ireland than a truck driver doing funerals and does it because of his faith.”

Shopping around can help save but Irish homeowners will keep paying over the odds until cheap EU mortgages offered here

THE European Central Bank delivered its FIFTH rate cut this week.

Just twelve months ago, the ECB’s main refinancing rate stood at 4.5 per cent. But on Thursday, bosses slashed that figure back to 2.75 per cent.

Fianna Fail MEP Billy Kelleher is calling for cheaper EU mortgages to be made available here
Billy Kelleher

And there is more good news with up to five more reductions to come this year.

These cuts mark a significant shift in the ECB’s monetary policy, aimed at easing borrowing costs and stimulating economic growth across the Eurozone.

Lower interest rates should, in theory, provide relief to Irish businesses and households, particularly those with variable-rate loans.

However, some homeowners coming to the end of their fixed rates are facing a “cliff edge” because they are coming to the end of deals taken out at much lower interest rates than are now currently available.

Fianna Fail MEP Billy Kelleher today urges homeowners to shop around when their fixed mortgage comes to an end — and calls for cheaper EU mortgages to be made available here.

IN recent years, as variable interest rates for mortgages shot up to in excess of four per cent, fixed-rate mortgage holders were shielded from the attack on their pockets.

However, this good fortune is ending for many fixed rate mortgage holders.

Central Bank of Ireland data tells us that 140,000 households were expected to roll off their fixed-rate by the end of 2024, and another 50,000 are due to see their fixed-rate mortgages disappear by the end of this year.

While interest rates are slowly coming down, those coming off a fixed-rate mortgage will still face a cold, painful shock when they are offered a new fixed rate by their bank or start searching the market for other options.

For years, our average interest rates have been some of the most expensive in the Eurozone, and this is unlikely to change any time soon.

That is why I am urging mortgage holders to shop around. While your existing bank must offer you their best possible fixed rate, it might not be the best rate on the market. There may be better rates and better products available.

Additionally, with the increase in house prices, a property’s loan to value rate may decrease, thereby opening up new, cheaper interest rates.

Furthermore, if homeowners have invested in green retrofitting, they may also be eligible for lower rates based on their BER certificate.

It is essential homeowners make use of the variety of providers to get the cheapest rate.

SWITCH RULES

While the Central Bank has brought in rules to make it easier and less cumbersome for homeowners to make the switch, a study published by the Banking and Payments Federation Ireland found less than 30 per cent of homeowners ever consider switching, with even less making the switch.

In fact, in 2023 when interest rates were peaking, only seven per cent of mortgage holders whose fixed rates were expiring switched providers while a staggering 44 per cent re-fixed at a higher rate with the same lender.

Over the last five-and-a-half years, as a member of the European Parliament’s Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee, I have consistently highlighted the lack of competition in our mortgage market.

I have raised this issue with the European Commission and European Central Bank at EU level, as well with as the Department of Finance and Central Bank of Ireland domestically.

SIGNS OF IMPROVEMENT

We are finally beginning to see signs of improvement.

There are new players entering the mortgage market, such as Interbank, MoCo and Nua Money, bringing much needed competition and choice for consumers.

Crucially, new legislation will allow all credit unions to offer mortgages.

There are costs associated with switching, such as solicitor fees, plus the time required to research your options.

Mortgage holders should not be put off and should grasp the best possible outcome when their fixed rate ends.

REDUCED HASSLE

The recent switching rules from the Central Bank reduce the hassle in switching, and the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission offers a handy online tool to help make comparisons.

The most important thing to remember is that those mortgage holders who switched between 2019 and 2022 saved, on average, €2,000 per year. It is worth the effort!

While there is cause for some optimism regarding the Irish mortgage market, Irish consumers will continue to pay over the odds until our average mortgage interest rates align with the Eurozone average.

Structural and regulatory improvements are desperately needed to ease the pain of hard-pressed Irish homeowners.

Just like the European Single Market allows all of us to buy and sell cross border easily, a European Banking Union would allow all of us to get financial services from anywhere in the EU.

All European citizens should have access to the broadest range of mortgage, credit and financial services, no matter where they live in the EU, while at the same time being protected by the same level of consumer protection.

GEORGE Williams has revealed a dose of rugby union can help him crack the code and end Warrington’s title drought.

The Wolves have amazingly gone 70 years without being crowned kings of the 13-a-side game.

SWPIX.COM

But England skipper Williams, a key cog of Sam Burgess’ side, has lifted the lid on how things from 15-a-side may help break defences.

And it is all thanks to a ‘genius’ – first team coach and former England RU attack supremo Martin Gleeson.

He said: “We’ve got a genius with the ball in Martin.

“And he’s sending me rugby union clips, that’s how much he loves it and he’s saying, ‘How can we transfer this over?’ He’s non-stop but that’s how you get better.

“He’d show me a scrum play in union and ask, ‘How can we get this to work? ’He’s always on it, which is good for me.

“There may be different rules and a couple more players but you can still put on similar plays. We’re always thinking of how to improve and there’s a fair bit already been brought in, you may see even more coming up.

“It’s down to the tiniest of details. He looks at things in so much depth through so much footage. I’m analysing everything in my game now.

“He’s been so good for my development at 29/30-years-old. You’ve seen a fair bit in your career but I feel like he’s improved me.

“It’s not that I didn’t enjoy it, but I love it again. I’m obsessed with winning and looking at training. He’s brought another spark to me, which is good at my age.”

Stand-off Williams, 30, knows what it takes to win after coming through at Wigan.

Now to finally end the most unbelievable of title droughts and that much heard chant, ‘It’s always your year.’

And after taking time to get used to what Burgess wants in 2024, it can be all systems go from the off in 2025.

He added, despite yesterday’s 20-12 trial match loss to Leigh: “We learned some valuable lessons about ourselves as a team. I think we found our identity to be honest.

“We built good foundations but still weren’t good enough. We’ve made some great inroads, though, in building an environment to win.

“That foundation’s laid, we know what’s demanded and what we need to do.

“We had a couple of issues in adjusting to what Sam wanted and what he wanted Warrington to look like.

“There are certain values we stand by now. We’ve everything we need to win – now’s the year to kick on.”

Masked Singer fans insist Bear is ‘easiest guess of the series’ as panellist claims they know him personally

THE Masked Singer viewers have dubbed Bear the “easiest guess of the series” after a huge show reveal.

Fans of the ITV show are in full agreement with panelist Mo Gilligan, 36, who has told how he knows the man behind the mask in person.

They now think all The Masked Singer clues point to Example[/caption]

It came after a dramatic night on the long-running series as both Kingfisher and Snail’s identities were revealed.

The character is decked out in red regal attire and belted out a musical number from Oliver! on their first The Masked Singer performance.

Bear has also offered a variety of clues for reality show viewers and said: ”The stage is set, the audience awaits, and I am hungry for the competition.”

During the first show, the friendly character also revealed a riddle which read: “I’m walking the stage and displaying my toil, but I’m also at home amongst flowers and soil.”

Yet now comedian Mo and the recent tit-bits of information about Bear lead to only one star, claim fans.

The character – who performed Shaboozey song Tipsy last night – gave hints about Australia, football and yawning, leading fans to suspect the animal is in fact London rapper Example.

One fan gushed over its simple identity and put: “Masked Singer, Bear is 100 per cent example (Elliot Gleave)!

“He’s a Fulham fan, he has a song with Ed Sheeran about chicken and he’s got a song called Kickstart. He’s the easiest one!”

Another agreed and put: “Nah Bear is defo @example!

“Home And Away clue – Wife is Australian, married and lived there. The Yawn clue for his song Stay Awake.”

A third then posted: “Easiest guess this season! (apart from Macy Gray).”

Mo then added fuel to the speculation as he told the panel: “I have a confession to make.

He said: “I think I’ve known who this is for a couple of weeks.

“You know why its because of the way they stand – I know this person personally.

Who has left The Masked Singer 2025 so far?

Much to the delight of telly fans, The Masked Singer is back in 2025.

Twelve celebrities have been hidden behind intricate costumes, with their identities concealed.

Sadly, not all of this year’s whacky and wonderful characters can make it to the end of the show, as there can only be one winner.

Here’s who has been unmasked so far:

Teeth – this character baffled judges and viewers with their changing voice. They were finally unmasked as former Bake Off host Mel Giedroyc. None of the panel managed to guess it was her

Tattoo – despite Davina McCall saying “you sound the same” after this character was unmasked, none of the judges guessed it was 80s singer Carol Decker, whose hit China In Your Hand was a No1 hit for five weeks

Toad In The Hole – a massive diva strop saw the character storm off the stage after the judges voted them off. They later returned to be unmasked as singer Macy Gray

Pegasus – the mythical horse was revealed to be Prue Leith, with judge Jonathan Ross correctly guessing her identity

Spag Bol – this character was first to be unmasked and was none other than Good Morning Britain host Kate Garraway.

Plus there was one extra unmasking this season, with Giant Joel – a caricature of host Joel Dommett – unveiled as double-double Olympic champion Sir Mo Farah.

“I’ve seen some music clues, I’ve seen they can do different types of music genres.

“I see under there I think it’s my friend Example.”

FAN THEORIES

Fans have previously suggested Jordan Stephens from Hip Hop duo Rizzle Kicks is behind the mask.

The theory about Jordan came just days after ITV viewers suspected the character was actually top Brit comedian Ben Bailey Smith.

Some viewers are also sure Bear is A Very Royal Scandal actor Michael Sheen, 55.

Others think it’s EastEnders actor Richard Blackwood – with a cheeky TV confession this week seemingly sealing the deal.

During a chat on ITV news, eagle-eyed followers reckoned he had “given away” the identity live on air.
