Ryanair scraps all flights to European city from next month… with no other direct UK routes

RYANAIR has confirmed that all flights to a European city are being cancelled.

The low-cost airline is scrapping flights to and from Aalborg, after Denmark announced new aviation taxes.

The new tax has introduced a 50DKK (£5.57) fee for all passengers departing Denmark, which is paid for by airlines.

The cancellation will see the London Stansted to Aalborg route scrapped from next month.

This is a blow to Brits who can currently fly to the Danish city for just £14.99 with Ryanair.

When the route stops, there will be no other direct flights from the UK.

Ryanair has since said they will also be closing its base at Billund airport, which has two aircraft.

The cancellations will see 32 routes cancelled, with 1.7million fewer seats.

A Ryanair spokesperson said: “We are very disappointed to announce the closure of our 2 aircraft Billund base and our operations at Aalborg from the end of March, but we have been left with no other choice following the Danish Govt’s short-sighted decision to introduce a harmful aviation tax from Jan 2025.”

The Danish city of Aalborg – the fourth largest in Denmark – has previously been named the happiest city in the world, as well as the best for quality of life.

Brits who want to travel there after March will need to change at Amsterdam or Copenhagen, with the cheapest flight £81 each way.

It’s not the only flight route that has been cancelled by Ryanair.

The Irish airline confirmed that their Bournemouth to Agadir route has been scrapped.

Having only launched the flight to the Moroccan city back in April 2024, it was the 19th new destination to fly from the regional airport.

Ryanair has slammed the new Air Passenger Duty fees that will be introduced from April 2026, which will see a 15 per cent rise on most flights.

In better news, Ryanair has confirmed five new routes are launching from London Stansted.

The new routes include flights to Reggio Calabria in Italy, which have launched today along with Linz in Austria.

Flights to Clermont-Ferrand in France and Munster in Germany will launch on March 30.

And from April 1, flights to Lubeck, another German city, will operate from London Stansted.

Advice for flying with Ryanair

  • All Ryanair passengers can bring a small personal bag on board but this must fit under the seat in front of you, but it must be no bigger than 40cm x 20cm x 25cm
  • Any over-sized cabin bags will be refused at the boarding gate and put in the hold for a fee
  • Ryanair also charges passengers up to £55 check-in at the airport
  • Anyone who loses their card at the airport will have to pay a £20 reissue fee
  • Book to sit in the front five rows if you want to head off the plane first
  • Extra legroom seats can be found in rows 1 A, B, C or 2 D, E, F as well as row 16 and 17 near the emergency exit
  • The worst seat on Ryanair’s Boeing 737-800 aircraft is also 11A because of its lack of window.

Here are some other new flight routes launching this year.

Weather ‘turning colder’ as Met Eireann warn temps to plummet to -2C & expert confirms ‘no significant snow on horizon’

FORECASTERS have warned that the weather is “turning much colder” over the next few days, with temperatures to plummet to -2C.

High pressure is set to batter Ireland throughout the week, bringing cold and dry weather with daytime temperatures no higher than 6C.

Plenty of dry weather is still signalled[/caption]

Cathal Nolan from Ireland’s Weather Channel said the weather is “turning much colder” but increasingly settled from tomorrow onward.

He added: “High pressure builds across Ireland from tomorrow night onwards, bringing cold and dry weather for many with daytime values no higher than 6C with nighttime lows down to -3C in some locations under clear skies.

“This marks the start of a cooler spell of weather, though there’s conflicting evidence as to just how long and for how cold this spell of weather will become.”

The weather expert confirmed that people should not expect another beast from the east to hit our coasts, despite some people hoping snow will fall in the near future.

Nolan said: “As indicated over the last few days we don’t envisage any disruptive weather in the next 7-10 days, and there’s no significant snow or a beast from the east style event on the horizon, at least not within the medium term vide.”

It will be mostly dry for the rest of the week, but Met Eireann confirmed that the nights will be cold.

Today, Bank Holiday Monday, is set to bring breezy weather with rain moving in from the west.

There will be a little light rain or drizzle in places before more persistent rain develops in the west in the afternoon, slowly spreading east.

Highs of 9C to 12C with fresh and gusty southerly winds developing, strong near Atlantic coasts.

Met Eireann expert Andrew Doran-Sherlock said: “It will be dry for many for much of today, with just a little light rain or drizzle in places.

“Rather cloudy, though with limited brighter sunny spells. We’ll be wet and breezy for much of tonight with some spot flooding possible.

“The rain will clear scattered showers from Atlantic areas by morning, and the fresh and gusty solarly winds will also ease.”

The rain is set to clear eastwards through tomorrow morning, followed by sunshine and scattered showers.

Weather boffins added that those showers will become isolated tomorrow night with lows of -1C to 3C, followed by some frost and ice.

‘PLENTY OF DRY WEATHER’

Wednesday will see good spells of sunshine with just a few light showers possible near the western and northwestern coasts.

Highs of 6C to 9C in light, occasionally moderate southwesterly breezes.

Wednesday night is set to be dry but clear, with lows of -2C to 2C in light southerly breezes.

Andrew added: “It’ll be largely dry and sunny on Thursday, though it may turn cloudier for a time in the southwest with a chance of some patchy light rain or drizzle.

“Friday will be another mostly dry day with spells of sunshine, and there’s then some uncertainty for the weekend with the possibility of some rain moving in from the west at some stage.

“But overall plenty of dry weather is still signalled.”

ITV in major soap shake-up as Emmerdale is extended tonight in new timeslot ahead of special standalone April episode

EMMERDALE fans are set to be in for a treat with an extended helping of the soap tonight ahead of tomorrow’s special episode.

ITV has torn up its usual scheduling to bring Emmerdale forward into an earlier timeslot in order to air an hour-long episode.

The drama in the dales will play out over the course of one hour[/caption]

The soap usually broadcasts for 30 minutes from 7:30pm with Thursday’s episodes airing for one hour.

However, in a rare move, the show will be airing an hour-long edition TONIGHT.

In order to accommodate the move, ITV is slashing its news coverage in half to air just a 30-minute edition of the ITV News at 6:30.

Emmerdale will then kick off at 7pm for an hour followed by the usual hour-long episode of Coronation Street.

In tonight’s episode, Marlon and Rhona will find themselves receiving some shocking news whilst Caleb is forced to deny Cain’s accusations in the wake of Anthony Fox’s murder.

Elsewhere, Kim will be seen growing increasingly suspicious of Joe Tate as he continues his stay at Home Farm.

Tonight’s extended episode comes just one day before the soap will broadcast a standalone show focusing on the tragic story of April Windsor.

Fans will remember April decided to run away in December and since then has faced life living on the streets.

Viewers will learn that April had nowhere to stay after she decided to leave home and found herself in all manner of terrifying situations as a teen alone on the street.

Commenting on the special episode, Emmerdale’s producer Laura Shaw said: “April’s flashback episode is a heartbreaking depiction of life on the street as a teenage girl.

“Continuing to take guidance from the fabulous team at Missing People, it was incredibly important that we didn’t shy away from the agonising journey that April would go through and their help was invaluable in making sure the episode has the authenticity required.

“Amelia Flanagan’s outstanding performance makes this arguably, one of Emmerdale’s stand out episodes of this year and promises to start a new journey for the character of April, forever changed by her time living on the city streets.”

Harrowing images showcase a distressed and dirty looking April sobbing and hunched as she carries a large rucksack with her.

Another shot shows April surrounded by others on the street in a makeshift home as they sit around a kettle looking dishevelled.

Soap's most harrowing teen storylines

We take a look at other harrowing teen soap storylines from soaps Coronation Street, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks.

Belle Dingle’s schizophrenia in Emmerdale – Belle’s (Eden Taylor-Draper) traumatic journey in Emmerdale took a dark turn when, after accidentally killing her best friend Gemma at just 16, her mental health began to spiral.

The storyline, which saw Belle struggling with her grief and guilt, showcased her battle with hearing Gemma’s voice inside her head, leading to a dramatic decline in her well-being.

Hannah Ashworth’s anorexia in Hollyoaks – Viewers were horrified as they watched Hannah (Emma Rigby), a seemingly innocent teen, spiral into dangerous behavior, starving herself in an attempt to achieve what she thought was the ideal body.

As Hannah’s condition worsened, the storyline became more intense, culminating in her being hospitalised for two months as she fought for her life.

Bethany Platt’s grooming ordeal in Coronation Street – Vulnerable schoolgirl, played by Lucy Fallon, was at the centre of one of Corrie’s darkest storylines to date when she fell under the spell of her older boyfriend and sexual predator.

The controversial scenes saw Nathan groom and manipulate the 16-year-old before coercing her into sleeping with his friends, with one of them raping her.

Whitney Dean’s abuse from Tony in EastEnders – Since the age of 12, she had been in a twisted relationship with her stepmum Bianca’s boyfriend, Tony King. The predator had groomed young Whit (Shona McGarty), making her believe she was in love and planning to run away with him.

On her 16th birthday, the traumatised teen finally revealed the years of abuse to Bianca. Tony was swiftly sent to prison sentenced for 13 years.
