‘It’s not easy’ – Henry reveals sympathy for Pep Guardiola after own marriage split with Man City boss ‘not usual self’
THIERRY HENRY has expressed sympathy for Pep Guardiola after the Manchester City boss split from his wife.
Things have gone wrong for Guardiola on and off the pitch this season, with the 5-1 drubbing against Arsenal the latest low for his misfiring side.
City scraped through the Champions League and are at risk of failing to finish in the top four after winning just four of their last ten Prem games.
Meanwhile Guardiola, 54, split from his partner of 36 years Cristina Serra last month, which has coincided with the dip in form.
Henry, who played for Guardiola at Barcelona, expressed sympathy for his former boss after the Arsenal defeat.
He said on Sky Sports: “Do I feel sorry about what’s happening to Man City and Pep? Yeah I do, in one thing.
“It’s not easy to deal with what Pep has to deal with outside of football. I went through that when I went to Barcelona. It’s not easy to deal with stuff like that, when you’re not well mentally.
“You can see that he’s not his usual self. I had to deal with it when I went to Barcelona, I can tell you it’s not easy. No one would like to deal with that while you have to perform all the time. So I think we can understand.
“Now if you go back on the field, it’s not good enough. I don’t think that they can cope whenever a team can deal with playing them all the way to ninety minutes and challenge them and look them in their eyes all the way.”
Henry, 47, split from his ex-wife Claire Merry in 2007 after four years of marriage.

Merry reportedly demanded a £10million settlement during the divorce.
Henry announced he was leaving Merry just before his transfer to Barcelona – she was said to be unhappy about the move and apparently was devastated when Henry walked out on their marriage.
Guardiola met Cristina when he was just 18-years-old and they have three children together – Maria, 24, Marius 22, and Valentina, 17.
Ex-Republic of Ireland U21 star Dara Costelloe joins Northampton Town on loan after Burnley contract extension
DARA COSTELLOE has joined Northampton Town on loan after signing a contract extension at Burnley.
Limerick native Costelloe, 22, had scored five goals in 17 appearances for Accrington before his stint there was cut short by injury.
Northampton boss Kevin Nolan said: “We think Dara can come in and offer something a little different.
“He can be a threat, a spark, he can create things
“He is another player who we have brought here despite strong interest from other clubs.
“He has done really well at Accrington this season, we hope he will come and continue that here.”
Costelloe has played just six times for Burnley since joining from Galway United – where he made his debut aged 15 – four years ago.
But he has gained more experience during temporary stints with Bradford City, St Johnstone and Dundee.
And the ex-Ireland under-21 international said:“I’m delighted to have signed a new contract for Burnley.
“The club has continued to support my development as a footballer and I’m now looking forward to the next step with a loan spell at Northampton Town.”
Meanwhile, another ex-Ireland under-21 cap Anthony Scully has returned to Colchester United on loan from Portsmouth.
His first spell had been cut short by an ankle injury.

A DANCING on Ice star has sparked reunion rumours with his soap star ex – two months after their split.
Former professional boxer Ricky Hatton, 46, participated in the ITV ice skating show last year.
He struck up a romance with Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney, 53, – a fellow contestant – but they later split up.
Two months on, Ricky sparked reunion speculation via Instagram after posting a glam picture of himself and Claire.
It saw radio presenter Peter Price join them in the social media snap.
Ricky captioned his throwback shot: “Happy birthday @petecityprice. Hope you have the best day my mate. Love Ricky.”
One of the star’s followers commented: “Old pic, shame they’ve split up.”
Another wrote: “Great photo of the three of you x”.
A third penned: “Blimey Claire! Should be criminal to look that good!”
While a fourth queried: “They back together?”
Ricky competed as a boxer from 1997 to 2012, during which time he held multiple world championships in the light-welteweight division.
Meanwhile, Claire currently plays Cassie Plummer in Coronation Street, but viewers may also recognise her from Brookside and The Good Ship Murder.
The pair initially dated in secret and enjoyed a holiday to Tenerife together before going public.
They had been friends for 25 years before things became romantic following Dancing on Ice.
In December 2024, the MailOnline reported the pair had gone their separate ways after eight months.
A source told the publication: “Claire and Ricky remain good friends, there has been no fallout between them.
“They decided they’re better off as pals and are no longer romantically together.”
Continuing, the insider said the couple’s different lifestyles ultimately came between them, despite a lot of shared interests.
