Man, 50s, injured in ‘serious assault’ as man, 20s, due in court following horror incident in Maynooth
A MAN is due in court following a serious assault in Maynooth over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Gardai have arrested and charged a man in his 20s following a “serious assault” of a man, 50s, at an educational establishment in Maynooth, Co Kildare.
The incident occurred at around 6.50pm on Monday, February 3.
A man in his 50s is receiving medical treatment for serious injuries at Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown, Dublin.
His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
Gardai confirmed that two other men were also injured during the incident.
A man in his 20s has since been arrested.
He is due to appear before Naas District Court this morning at 10.30am.
A garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí have arrested and charged a man following a serious assault at an educational establishment in Maynooth, Co. Kildare, on Monday, 3rd February 2025 at approximately 6.50pm.
A man (aged in his 50s) is receiving medical treatment for serious but non-life threatening injuries at Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown.
“Two other males were also injured during the incident.
“A man (aged in his 20s) was arrested in relation to this incident and has since been charged.
“He is due to appear before Naas District Court this morning, Wednesday 5th February 2025 at 10.30am.”
This comes after gunshots were fired at two residential properties in Co Galway shortly before 4am on Monday night.
Criminal damages occurred at the properties in St Grellan’s Terrace in the Ballinasloe area but gardai have confirmed that no injuries were reported.
Gardai rushed to the scene of the incident at around 3:50am this morning.
Investigating officers have urged anyone who may have any information to come forward, particularly if it relates to a dark-coloured saloon car.
A garda spokesperson said: “Investigating Gardai are appealing to any person who may have information in relation to this incident to contact them.
“Any person who was in the St Grellan’s Terrace and surrounding areas at Brackernagh, Ballinasloe between 3:30am and 4:30am and who may have mobile phone or dash-cam footage, is asked to make this available to Gardai.
“In particular, Gardai are looking to speak with anyone who may have seen a dark-coloured saloon car at these locations.
“Any person who may have information or footage is asked to contact Ballinasloe Garda Station on 09096 31890, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda station.”
