Husband of ‘Lady of the Hills’ is released on bail after being quizzed over her murder – 21 years after body found

THE husband of the Lady of the Hills has been bailed by police after being quizzed over her murder for three days.

David Armitage, 61, was held at Heathrow airport at the weekend after flying back to the UK from Thailand.

He was arrested on suspicion of the murder of his wife Lamduan Armitage, 36, whose partially-clothed body was found in a stream in the Yorkshire Dales in 2004.

The retired lecturer was interviewed by cold case detectives before being released this afternoon pending further investigations.

Armitage has always denied any involvement in his wife’s death.

After he was bailed North Yorkshire Police made a further appeal for help from the public – specifically from anyone who may have known the couple while they were living in two locations in the months before she died.

Cops want to speak to people who knew them between March, 2004, up to September of that year when her body was found, when they lived in the village of Sprotborough, near Doncaster, South Yorkshire, and Preston, Lancashire.

Dad-of-two Armitage, who moved to Thailand with their children shortly after his wife went missing, was detained by Thai immigration police last month.

They acted after Interpol issued a Blue Notice against him – an international order to help cops gather info about a crime from witnesses and potential suspects living abroad.

His residency visa was revoked but he was not extradited to the UK and was free to go anywhere after he left Thailand.

But he told officials he planned to return home to clear his name and was said to have been persuaded to do so by his Thai girlfriend and his son.

A source told The Sun: “In reality he only has one option– back to Britain.

“He had the choice of appealing against the decision to revoke his visa within 48 hours but he did not take it.”

The intriguing murder mystery began in September 2004 when hikers doing the Three Peaks found a body near Pen-y-ghent.

Police were unable to identify her or establish a cause of death although she had not been shot, stabbed or bludgeoned to death and did not drown.

She was dubbed the Lady of the Hills in 2007 when she was buried in an anonymous grave in the nearby village of Horton-in-Ribblesdale in a funeral arranged by locals.

A cold case review finally led to her being identified in 2019.

The Sun tracked down dad-of-two Armitage to his remote home near Kanchanaburi where he worked as a lecturer.

When he asked if he had killed his wife he said: “Absolutely not…no…absolutely not.

“I know the inferences are there but I am just getting on with my life here.”

A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “The 61-year-old man arrested on Saturday on suspicion of the murder of Lamduan Armitage in 2004 has been released on conditional bail while police enquiries continue.”

Since Harriett arrived back in the villa, Ronnie has been trying to win back his ex from last summer’s Love Island.

They have finally recoupled together, but some fans haven’t been convinced that things are genuine between the pair.

In scenes to be aired on Love Island All Stars tonight, Harriett makes a beeline for Chuggs after he arrives in the villa as the latest bombshell.

As she chats to the rugby lad, she says: “I didn’t come here to get back with my ex…I’m 100% not closed off, he [Ronnie] is obviously.”

Chuggs then reports this back to Casey who is surprised and asks him: “Did she tell you her situation from her side?”

To which the new guy replies: “She’s said she’s very open, it surprised me…I dunno if she wants to wind him [Ronnie] up or if she wants other guys to talk to her.”

Later that evening Casey sits down with Ronnie at the firepit and tells him what Harriett said to Chuggs.

“She’s basically said she’s open, but really open, so I just wanted to let you know, ” he tells his best mate.

Ronnie then replies: “It’s fine, I knew we were open, I’m fine…as we are getting closer there’s gonna be a time where I’m gonna appreciate not hearing that…”

Fans will then watch Harriett march over and say: “As I’ve said I’m obviously more leaning towards Ronnie because no-one has come in yet that I fancied and they might not…I told you that.”

Defending his friend, Casey says: “I just think it’s unfair for Ronnie.”

“But Ronnie’s not saying it’s unfair, it’s us two in the situation so I don’t know why you’re putting your two pence in,” Harriett replies.

With more drama for the on again off again couple, Ronnie is then left questioning things – again.

Meanwhile, Chuggs’ fellow bombshell Samie Elishi is also set to stir the pot within minutes of arriving in the All Stars villa.

After strolling to meet the singletons at the Firepit, Samie pulls Luca Bish for a chat.

Tonight viewers will see the pair talk about DM’ing one another outside the Villa.

Not pulling any punches, Samie tells the former fish seller: “I fancy you, I think you’re good looking.”

He then replies: “I think you’re good looking.”

Samie follows up and says: “So you fancy me?” to which Luca adds: “Erm I think you’re good looking…”

Persisting with the flirting, Samie replies “What, are you scared of the word fancy?”

Luca’s show partner Grace later finds out about Samie and Luca’s DM’s from Elma.

Things get more troubling for the Brighton-based lad as the night rolls on.

As they get ready for the evening, Luca tells Curtis: “My mind is shot to bits man.”

Curtis then asks: “Is it because of this whole Samie situation? Do you feel like you’re confused?”

Luca then replies: “I genuinely don’t know.”

During a game of spin the bottle at the firepit, the Islanders spin and have to read out a card with either a truth or dare for themselves or for the group to partake in.

As the game includes kissing dares, Luca asks Grace: “Who would you want me to kiss?”

Grace says: “Catherine.”

Later the bottle lands on Luca with a card daring him to snog the Islander, other than your partner, who is your vibe…

Luca has a decision to make, will he snog Catherine or is there another Islander he wants to kiss?

Viewers will be kept in the dark as to who he chooses until tonight’s episode airs.

Love Island: All Stars continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2

Katherine Ryan admits she hired a midwife to queue up at 4am for Taylor Swift tickets for her daughter

KATHERINE Ryan is no stranger to taking a bit of criticism over her parenting style – especially since showcasing the behind-the-scenes of her family in reality show At Home With Katherine Ryan.

But that hasn’t stopped the mother-of-three from going above and beyond for her children, especially teenage daughter Violet, who is at the focus of series two of the UKTV hit.

The star returns for a second series of her reality show this month[/caption]

So much so, that she hired someone to stand in a queue to make sure her eldest child had the best view possible at Taylor Swift’s Eras tour last summer, and keep her happy.

Katherine admitted: “I want to give everyone in my life a premium experience.

“I know people will be taken aback that I hired a midwife to queue at 4am at Wembley as a placeholder.

“But a midwife is the perfect person for the job, because she’s on call, and if someone needs antenatal care in that queue, she’s there.

“It’s just the way I’ve always been with her, Violet and I had many wonderful adventures and I just want to keep that up, even though I do keep cutting her inheritance down every nine months.”

The new series delves deeper than ever into Katherine and husband Bobby Kootstra‘s life at home with children Violet, Fred and Fenna.

One scene sees Katherine break down in tears addressing her relationship with daughter Violet, 15 – who she admits she keeps happy to make sure she remains at the family home.

She continued: “I just don’t want Violet to leave on bad terms or prematurely – and before Bobby came into our lives, we did exist in this benevolent democracy.

“We were like sisters, and then her life has changed so much in the last five years so I don’t like to say no to her.

“I kind of resist it, I don’t know why I should say no to her – I still struggle with that and we haven’t solved that in the series.

“It just makes for an interesting jumping off point for conversations to happen in the UK when people watch it – and I don’t mind being a catalyst for conversation.”

At Home With Katherine Ryan’s second series airs weekly from February 10 at 9pm on U&W.

Dail chaos avoided as Micheal Lowry says ‘time to get on with work’ after Murphy ruling ends speaking rights row

A REPEAT of last month’s Dail chaos has been avoided after Michael Lowry conceded defeat in his bid to act as opposition while also backing the government.

Leaders from the real opposition parties were today celebrating after a ruling from Ceann Comhairle Verona Murphy pushed Lowry and three other Independent TDs into the Government back benches.

The election of Micheal Martin as Taoiseach was delayed by one day last month following a Dail rebellion from Sinn Fein, Labour, the Social Democrats, People Before Profit and Independent Ireland.

These parties were furious at an attempt by Micheal Lowry and three other Independent TDs to bag extra speaking time in the Dail by pretending to be opposition while still backing the Government.

A repeat of the shambolic shouting matches between TDs had been expected when Dail returned today after two weeks of negotiations failed to agree a path forward.

However, Ceann Comhairle Verona Murphy has ended the row with an 11th hour ruling that declares Lowry and the three other TDs can not form part of an opposition grouping to speak in the Dail.

The Ceann Comairle highlighted comments from Lowry and the other TDs about backing the Government through thick and thin and claimed this means they can not act as opposition in the Dail.

The ruling is a strong move from Verona Murphy who credits Micheal Lowry with helping her to secure the coveted role of Ceann Comhairle.

Tipperary TD Lowry today conceded defeat in the long running row as he said it is “time now to get on with the work.”

He said: “The Ceann Comhairle has made a ruling. We accept the ruling.

“I think what the ruling does is highlight the urgent necessity for Dail reform.

“We now have a situation where four independent members are being specifically named who are supportive of government and obviously their needs have to be accommodated.

“The Government are going to have to review this decision.”

He said the Dail Reform Committee must come up with proposals to enable independents who support governments in the future to get speaking time.

However, Labour’s Alan Kelly claimed that these comments are only an attempt to “save face” from Lowry and Co as he hailed the Ceann Comhairle decision as a win for opposition parties.

He said: “It’s a big day for this Dail.

“It is a big day for this Government because it has been an absolute disaster for them the way in which they’ve commenced.

“I’m delighted that this farce has come to an end.

“The farce is over. The show is over as regards to this issue.”

Deputy Kelly said Michael Lowry, Barry Heneghan, Gillian Toole and Danny Healy Rae must now move to the Government benches and speak in Government time in the same way backbench Green Party TDs did in the last coalition.

Deputy Kelly added: “This was a stroke too far. Micheal Martin got this so, so, so wrong and there was an arrogance in that.”

Sinn Fein leader Mary Lou McDonald said the Government have been forced into a “very significant climbdown” after weeks of defending the attempt by TDs to play both sides of the House.
