Moment furious Jack Draper breaks advertising board after smashing racquet in shocking Queen’s meltdown

JACK DRAPER broke the electronic advertising hoardings as he smashed his racquet… and crashed out of Queen’s.

The British No1 was desperate to book his place in the final in West London.

But he came up just short against Czech ace Jiri Lehecka, losing an agonising semi-final 6-4 4-6 7-5.

And Draper’s temper boiled over when he lost his serve at a crucial time late in the deciding set.

The world No6 – who will be seeded fourth at Wimbledon – was beaten by a stunning clean backhand winner from his opponent to seal the break.

And as Draper ran across the back of the Andy Murray Arena court, he let his frustration out.

Careful not to damage the manicured lawn, the Sutton star whacked his Dunlop racquet into the electronic board at the side of the court.

But as he did so, the screen – ironically showing a red-and-white advert for his own sponsors Dunlop – crackled and then cut out.

The top part of the hoarding also came away.

But it appeared the damage was not limited to the screen.

Because Draper also cracked right through his frame to break his racquet, sending his shock absorber flying.

And it appeared he may have hurt himself too as he checked his hand and hobbled gingerly to his chair for the changeover with blood on his knee.

Draper was given a code violation warning for unsportsmanlike conduct by umpire Adel Nour – having earlier escaped punishment for blasting a ball in anger – to go with his time violation warning.

BBC Sport commentator Andrew Cotter said: “Again, the anger shows which you understand.

“That racquet has seen better days. He’s done a bit of damage and maybe damage to his hand.

“Adel Nour had no option at all. Yes, you understand it, this is a big, big event for Draper.”

After digging a fresh racquet out of his bag, the former US Open semi-finalist could not get the all-important immediate break back as Lehecka served out the win and book his place in the final.

But tennis fans on social media were disappointed with Draper’s furious outburst.

Tennis stars’ new careers

PLENTY of tennis stars have stayed involved in the sport since retiring.

But others pursued very different careers. Here are some of the best…

  • I reached French Open and Wimbledon finals as a teenager but I quit to become a nun
  • I won Wimbledon mixed doubles with my sister but got fed up with English weather so now run luxury B&B
  • I was tipped for stardom aged 12 but retrained to become high-flying lawyer
  • I earned £9m and won French Open before setting up bistro with Brazilian model girlfriend
  • I’m last Frenchman to win Roland Garros, now I’m singer with six albums hitting No1 in charts
  • I’m former world No1 but quit aged 29 – instead I went on to play professional poker and golf
  • I was destined for the top but swapped lobs for labs as award-winning Harvard physicist

One said: “Striking the hard-to-maintain grass court in front of your home fans and your knee like a psycho after losing a point, you will never make me like Jack Draper.”

Another wrote: “Some weak umpiring meant Draper didn’t get a warning when he fired a ball earlier. Furious at getting broken at 5-5 in the third he goes after the ad board signage and… breaks it.”

A third added: “Lehecka breaks and Draper smashes the billboard… hefty fine coming for the Brit.”

A fourth commented: “Kids will be watching and follow his abysmal behaviour, just like McIlroy launching his golf clubs through the air. There is absolutely no excuse.”

And a final user wrote: “Pathetic from Draper. Misses a shot and smashes his racquet into the advertising board. Can’t stand that sort of behaviour.”

It is not the first time Draper has destroyed a racquet in recent times.

Draper obliterated his frame in Great Britain’s Davis Cup defeat to Canada in November and did the same at the Italian Open in Rome last month.

But he will be hoping he can channel his concentration into a deep run at Wimbledon, which gets underway next Monday.

Wimbledon ditching line judges a double fault for British tennis

By Joshua Jones

THE absence of line judges at Wimbledon will be a sad sight.

For as long as I can remember, the men and women decked out in their Ralph Lauren outfits have been part of the furniture at the All England Club.

Yes, they provided some mild entertainment on the court when one would call “fault” with plenty of extra, and unnecessary, gusto and volume that boomed around Centre Court, prompting a snigger from the fans.

Then there was the ongoing game of dodgeball they had to play when a big serve nailed a mammoth ace down the line and they had to take rapid evasive action or take a whack to the top of the head.

And challenges provided some audience participation, excitedly joining in the clapping countdown before the inevitable “oooh” when the graphic showed just how close the ball was to landing in or out.

Purely objectively, Wimbledon’s decision to replace line judges with Hawk-Eye Live makes total sense.

The accuracy and consistency of calls in real-time will speed things up, save time and should mark the end of arguments over the tight incorrect calls – well, until the technology malfunctions.

And Wimbledon’s hand was somewhat forced to ditch tradition for their standing in tennis.

The Australian Open and US Open already use electronic line calling and the ATP Tour is adopting Hawk-Eye Live across all of its tournaments from 2025.

Wimbledon’s refusal to comply would leave them lagging behind and exposed to the threat of needless controversy over human error.

But the impact – as is so often the case in these decisions – has ramifications further down, below the surface with very little impact on Wimbledon’s Championships or the players.

It is on the line judges themselves.

Approximately 300 officials – aged from 18 to 80 – covered more than 650 matches at Wimbledon.

A fraction travel internationally with the circuit but the vast majority of those are part-time line judges based in the UK, earning up to £180 per day to work at the prestigious tournament and their chance to play their part at Wimbledon.

For many, they will help out at British tournaments throughout the year, spurred on by the possibility of taking to the lawns of the All England Club.

But it is understood many of those officials would be reluctant to work at the lower-level tournaments without the carrot of Wimbledon dangling in the summer.

That in turn will put a major stumbling block in the pathway for British tennis umpires, who grind up through the ranks to reach the pinnacle of the sport.

Like football with referees, tennis needs umpires and line judges.

So the inability to call “out” at Wimbledon could prove to be a major “fault” for the future of the UK’s tennis officials and therefore the state of the sport on these shores.

Retired professor revealed as first victim of horror rock slide in Canada which killed another and injured 3 more

A RETIRED professor has been named as the first victim of the deadly rock slide in Canada which killed one other.

Jutta Hinrichs, 70, a former lecturer at the University of Alberta, was found dead on Thursday after the disaster in Banff National Park that also injured three people.

Another body was recovered on Friday, and officials have called off the rescue after believing everyone is accounted for.

The fatal land slide happened on Thursday afternoon north of Lake Louie – a tourist town 124 miles northwest of Calgary, Alberta.

A huge rock shelf gave way and cascaded down the mountain along the Bow Glacier Falls hiking trail, and hikers were in the slip.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police and Parks Canada later confirmed that two hikers tragically lost their lives – one of whom was Jutta Hinrichs.

In a tribute, the University of Alberta said Jutta was a “dedicated leader and educator” who worked in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine‘s Department of Occupational Therapy.

It continued: “As an educator, Jutta nurtured many students, preceptors and clinicians to flourish and grow.

“That her work continues to enrich the tapestry of occupational therapy in Alberta is her legacy.”

Corporal Gina Slaney with RCMP said that information about the second victim will be released after the family has been notified.

Local resident Niclas Brundell was hiking on the trail at the time.

He and his wife were among a group standing to the right of the falls when they noticed small rocks start tumbling down the mountain.

Alarmed, the two of them fled the area.

Nicals told CBC news: “I turned round and saw basically a whole shelf of a mountain come loose.

“We just kept sprinting and I couldn’t see the people behind us anymore because they were all in that cloud of rock.

“I saw rocks coming tumbling out of that. So it was big. It was, like, the full mountainside.”

The quantity of loose rock was described as “exceptional”[/caption]

The Bow Glacier Falls hiking trail is a six-mile route running along the edges of Bow Lake.

It’s considered a moderate challenge for hikers, and day-trippers include families.

Francois Masse, the Parks Canada Superintendent of the Lake Louise, Yoho, and Kootenay Field Unit, said the rockfall was an “extremely rare event” that was “neither predictable nor preventable”.

While rockfalls are fairly common in the Rockies, he said “the size of the slab that detached” was “exceptional”.

The trail to Bow Glacier Falls has been closed for the foreseeable future, he said.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said she was deeply saddened by the tragic accident.

“We are thinking of all those involved and wishing for their safety as we await further details,” she said in a post on social media.

Ron Hallman, president and CEO of Parks Canada, said: “My thoughts are with the families and friends of those who are affected.”

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney also offered his condolences.

He said: “I want to address the tragedy at Bow Glacier Falls, and offer my condolences to the loved ones of those who have lost their lives in this tragic accident. And wish a full recovery to all those injured.”

Watch chaos at Royal Ascot as winning horse Lazzat goes mad and almost KOs groundsworker with kick

CHAOS hit Royal Ascot when winning horse Lazzat almost drop-kicked a groundsworker in the head after getting loose and going mad.

The Wathnan-owned sprinter just bagged more than half a million quid for winning the Platinum Jubilee Stakes.

But when jockey James Doyle was about to be interviewed by ITV, the horse appeared to get spooked by a cloth being raised in front of him.

He dumped Doyle to the turf, turned round then galloped off down the track.

Groundsworkers tried their best to calm the horse as he hit top stride.

But it came inches from turning incredibly nasty indeed when Lazzat lashed out with his hind legs at one of the men.

He just missed his head but the man fell through the running rail like a drunk boxer.

More to follow.

Huge US TV star goes unnoticed running errands in London – would you have recognised her?

ONE of the biggest names in Hollywood almost went unnoticed as she ran errands in London’s Trafalgar Square.

Vanessa Williams is currently in London starring as the fictional fashion editor Miranda Priestly in the West End production of The Devil Wears Prada.

The former Miss America, 62, was spotted looking very chic on the warm London day with a thick ponytail and wearing a black t-shirt tucked into wide-leg, white trousers.

Vanessa completed the stylish look with black platform heels.

She carried a black fringe bag and stopped for selfies for the few fans who recognised her near the famous London landmark.

The Ugly Betty actress is starring in the musical at the Dominion Theatre on Tottenham Court Rd, about a 15 minute walk away from where she was spotted on Saturday afternoon.

The musical based on the bestselling novel and blockbuster film, tells the story of an aspiring journalist who lands a job at Runway magazine.

Vanessa debuted in the role when the musical opened in London‘s West End on October 24, 2024.

The music in the show is composed by none, other than Sir Elton John.

However, Vanessa’s time in London has not been without tragedy.

She revealed in January that her mother died in the English capital after making the trip to watch her perform.

Vanessa cited a ‘major decline in health as the cause of her mother’s death.

Sharing a statement to her Instagram with the sad news, she told fans: “On December 28th, the world lost a powerhouse, dynamo and force of nature packed into a 5ft frame.

“Our mom, Helen Williams, aka Gaga to many, took her final bow in London 20 days after celebrating her 85th birthday surrounded by family and friends.

“It’s impossible to describe all she meant to everyone because each person saw a different facet of her. Loyal friend to many, icy stares to a chosen few.”

In 2012 Vanessa and her mother co-authored a book together, titled ‘You Have No Idea: A Famous Daughter, Her No-nonsense Mother, and How They Survived Pageants, Hollywood, Love, Loss’.

Seven steps will give you the smoothest bikini line shave this summer – you’re probably using the wrong razor to start

WHETHER you’re soaking up the sun if your garden or planning a summer trip, it’s time to whip out your bikini.

And thanks to these handy steps, you can get the smoothest shave before you sunbathe.

TikTok user Emily Guebs shared her top tips for getting a perfectly smooth bikini line
Tiktok/@emilyguebs

If it feels impossible to shave your bikini line without causing unsightly bumps or ingrown hairs, don’t fret.

A former swimmer has revealed the process she swears by for “the perfect bikini shave”.

TikTok user Emily Guebs (@emilyguebs) shared her wisdom for a smooth finish in a video that has amassed 2.4 million views.

She explained that she does not wax, laser, or sugar her bikini line but still receives compliments on the smooth finish.

The first step of the process she has mastered is ensuring her bikini line is the last part of her body she shaces.

According to Emily, this “gives the follicles time to soften up in the warm water”.

She also advised her audience to designate a specific razor for that area to “eliminate spreading infection”.

And as for the type of razor you should opt for, the TikToker said she was surprised by what works best.

“I’ve been using cheap razors forever, as long as you’re using one that is staying in a clean and dry environment and you’re cleaning it regularly, I really don’t think you have to use a super nice razor,” she said.

She discussed the best direction for shaving to prevent irritation, explaining that it should always be “sideways and down, not up”.

And the steps you take after shaving prove to be just as important in perfecting a smooth bikini line.

Emily recommended rinsing the are with cold water before patting it dry with a towel.

According to the TikToker, you should never rub a freshly shaved area dry.

Finally, she revealed her “biggest game changer” tip, which is to spread a pea-sized amount of antiseptic cream across the area.

Emily’s followers shared their thoughts on the beauty advice in the comments section.

Seven steps for a smooth bikini line

  • Shave your bikini line last
  • Designate a specific razor for your bikini line
  • Cheap razors are fine as long as they are cleaned and dried after each use
  • Shave sideways and down, not up
  • Rinse with cold water
  • Pat dry with a towel, don’t rub
  • Apply anitseptic cream to the area

“Adds antiesptic cream to beach shopping list,” wrote one TikTok user.

“Heavy on the don’t need an expensive razor! I tried out a five blade there and gave me razor bumps,” said another viewer.

“This is the first time I’ve not heard to exfoliate the area,” commented a third person.

“OMG, antiseptic cream, that’s f**king genius,” wrote another impressed follower.

“These tips are all so good and apply to shaving other areas too,” pointed out one viewer.
