‘We’ve had a bad week’ admits Stephen Kenny as he challenges St Pat’s to respond to Galway Utd loss against Derry City

STEPHEN KENNY has done it all in Irish football.

It has not gone to plan in this campaign for St Pat’s but there were flashes of class on Friday after a bad start.

Galway needed keeper Evan Watts to make a string of saves to keep the Tribe ahead.

Friday’s 3-1 defeat means the mood music is not good in Inchicore but the Pat’s boss feels they will come good.

Kenny said: “I’ve never seen a goal like the first goal. For us to concede that goal, our defensive structure wasn’t right. That’s not acceptable.

“The second, Joseph Anang made a mistake. It was an outstanding finish from David Hurley.

“He’s done well to stick that in from there. He’s probably the only player that could have done that.

“We find ourselves 2-0 down after hardly any minutes. I can’t believe it because we prepared well.

“We get a great goal, great finish but then we concede within a minute.”

Ed McCarthy and David Hurley — from the halfway line — had put United ahead. Simon Power pulled one back but Robert Slevin replied to win the game for Galway.

Kenny added: “Moses Dyer puts it in the far corner, a sort of rugby-style kick-out into the corner. We should set and clear, we don’t do that and we can’t concede from a corner. That’s poor from us.

“We had so many efforts at goal then. The young keeper pulled off five outstanding saves. We had a definite penalty.

“Mason Melia is coming on to it and Greg Cunningham pulled him down.

“We reacted well but you can’t give yourself a mountain to climb. The players gave everything. It was just a lack of concentration for the two goals and individual mistakes.”

Tomorrow Pat’s host Derry City, who beat Shelbourne 1-0 on Friday night.

Kenny said: “Derry is a different game completely. We are at home. It’s not been a good week. We played a lot of good stuff this year, but we’ve had a bad week. Because the European teams have a Monday game, a bad week can knock you.

“We only took a point from the three games. That’s obviously not good enough. We’ve got to bounce back.

“Last season we went from third bottom to in contention with two games to go, getting into Europe. Now we are in Europe in a few weeks.

“We have a lot of work to do to go again.”

‘Brucey was crying’ – What Pep Guardiola said to Steve Bruce about Lionel Messi left him in tears

PEP GUARDIOLA left Steve Bruce in tears of laughter during a conversation about bringing Lionel Messi to Manchester City.

A reunion between the pair was on the cards in 2020 when Messi’s contract with Barcelona started to wind down.

Messi was said to have been convinced by his old manager to move to the Etihad but performed a U-turn due to his belief Barca would offer him a new deal.

That deal didn’t end up coming to fruition and he ended up joining Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer in August 2021.

The prospect of Messi moving to the Prem quickly became the talk of players and managers alike.

And at Premier League meeting with all the managers present, former Burnley boss Sean Dyche quizzed Guardiola about his pursuit of the footie icon while getting a cup of tea with Bruce.

During an appearance on talkSPORT, he recalled: “I said, ‘What was that thing about Lionel Messi?’

“He (Guardiola) goes, ‘Sean, Steve, I tell you this. Lionel, he said no way can he come to Manchester City.

“Because I tell Lionel it rains. ‘It rains and rains. And when it stops raining, it rains again.’

“Then he goes, ‘Lionel, on a Monday night, you have to go to Burnley, Sean’s team.

“And they go bang, bang, bang, bang, bang.’ Brucey was crying!”

Dyche, 53, added: “I went, ‘That’s exactly what we’re going to do, Pep You warned him correctly.’

“Me and Brucey were crying, honestly. It was genius. Pep, brilliant.”

The prospect of eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi rocking up at Turf Moor tickled Dyche, who said: “Imagine that.

“His face turning up at Turf Moor going, ‘What on earth? “

“Absolutely smashing it down with rain, wind blowing across and knocking you over.”

Messi spent two seasons with PSG before upping sticks to the MLS to join David Beckham co-owned Inter Miami.

Fresh blow as MORE 20mph speed limits are rolled out in UK – are you impacted?

DRIVERS have been dealt a fresh blow as more 20mph speed limits get rolled out in the UK – are you impacted?

Fife Council has confirmed that several towns and villages in the North East will soon have lower speed limits implemented.

Fife Council has confirmed that 20mph speed limits will be implemented across several areas[/caption]

It follows requests from local communities and the new Scottish Government initiative to introduce 20mph speed limits on all appropriate urban roads by the end of 2025.

Cllr. Jonny Tepp said: “The introduction of these 20mph speed limits in our towns and villages is the best way to improve road safety and reduce the number of casualties on our roads.

“The evidence is clear that a pedestrian hit at 20mph is less likely to be seriously or fatally injured than if hit at 30mph.

“We want to make our towns and villages safer for everyone, especially our children and older or more vulnerable adults.

“Reducing the limits ensures that drivers have more time to respond to unexpected events and significantly reduces the risk of fatal accidents.”

In the East Neuk, 20mph speed limits will be introduced on the A917 through Elie, Pittenweem, Anstruther, and Cellardyke, as well as on the B913, St Andrews Road, in Anstruther.

Main Street and Station Road will also have the reduced speed limits introduced.

In Newport, 20mph speed limits will be introduced on both Cupar Road and Kirk Road.

The council also revealed that a limited waiting parking restriction will be introduced on High Street, Elie, following a request from the Elie and Earlsferry Community Council.

Starting Monday, motorists will only be allowed to park for one hour between 9am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday.

Once that hour is used, they must wait at least another hour before returning.

The council claims this will allow easier access to shops and businesses for customers.

It comes after thousands of UK drivers will face a huge speed limit change under new road rules – is your route affected?

The Welsh Government announced plans to lower the default speed limit from 30mph to 20mph, in 2023.

The decision sparked major public backlash, with hundreds of thousands of locals signing petitions calling for the rule to be scrapped.

It appears residents were heard, as the Government later confirmed that councils could opt out by restoring some roads to the original 30mph limit the following year.

This prompted fresh discussions, as local authorities began working with drivers to decide which roads should return to the higher speed limit.

Some areas have since reverted to the 30mph limit, while others are still in the process of making the change.

‘I swear I will stop supporting’ – Chelsea enter negotiations for PSG star but fans are split on transfer

CHELSEA have entered talks with Paris Saint-Germain to sign Randal Kolo Muani, according to reports.

The Blues are aiming to further bolster their front line, having already signed Liam Delap from Ipswich for £30million.

Kolo Muani, 26, is a France regular and cost PSG more than £70m in 2023.

The forward’s move to Paris hasn’t worked out, however, and he spent the second half of last season on loan at Juventus.

According to French paper L’Equipe, Chelsea have contacted PSG regarding a swoop for Kolo Muani.

The 31-cap star still has three years remaining on his contract, with Luis Enrique’s European champions keen to get him off the wage bill.

Kolo Muani remains with Juve at the Club World Cup, and scored twice in their 5-0 win against Abu Dhabi side Al-Ain.

The 6ft 2in striker has an impressive resume, having won two league titles and a pair of domestic cups with Paris Saint-Germain, a Coupe de France with Nantes and having reached the World Cup final in 2022.

Despite his achievements, Chelsea supporters appear to be divided by the prospect of signing Kolo Muani.

One wrote on X: “I’m sorry but I’d rather keep Nicolas Jackson than have Kolo Muani at Chelsea.”

And a third fumed: “I stand with every Chelsea fan and say we don’t need Kolo muani.”

Although a fourth chimed in: “Let’s not dismiss him. He’s a good (not great) No.9.”

And another added: “Underrated and disrespected, proven it in every country he’s played, France, Germany, now Italy. Great Loan at Juventus, sign him up.”

Kolo Muani has scored 11 goals in 54 PSG appearances, many of which have come from the bench.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt ace made four appearances during the Ligue 1 giants’ run to winning the Champions League.

And he has since scored eight goals in 16 Serie A appearances for Juve, including important efforts against Lazio and Venezia.

Chelsea forward Nicolas Jackson will be suspended for their Premier League opener against Crystal Palace, due to his red card against Newcastle last month.

After Jackson, 24, was sent off again on Friday, in his side’s 3-1 defeat to Flamengo at the Club World Cup, boss Enzo Maresca was asked about the striker’s Chelsea future.

The Italian, 45, said: “No, the red card has nothing to do with Nico’s future.

“He had the first one against Newcastle when Liam was not even here and another one.

“I’m not sure that it’s 100 per cent a red card but the referee decided for that, and Nico knows very well that in both situations (it) was not something good for the team.”

Abandoned 50,000 capacity stadium to be DEMOLISHED after becoming overrun by nature following 20 years of neglect

AN abandoned 50,000 capacity stadium is set to be demolished after years of neglect.

The Za Luzankami Stadium in the Czech Republic was once the biggest stadium in Czechoslovakia, now it has sat empty for years and is in line to be resigned to the history books within the next year.

Plans to demolish the ground are set to be completed by February 2026[/caption]

The former home of FC Zbrojcka Brno, Za Luzankami has hosted international fixtures and even holds the record for the highest-attended game in the history of the Czech first league.

However, after the modernisation of stadiums and updates to Fifa and Czech FA criteria for the quality of grounds, Zbrojcka were forced to leave their historic home in 2001.

Since then it has sat empty, disappearing into the overgrown nature and looking worse for wear as each year of neglect passes.

In 2012, plans were drawn up to allow Zbrojovka to return thanks to the reconstruction of the stadium, but amid financial concerns, the project was put on hold.

Now plans are in place to finally demolish the ground after authorities decided to remove the colossal building back in 2023.

According to Czech outlet Brno Daily, the city council are currently looking for a contractor to demolish the stands after areas surrounding the ground have been closed due to safety reasons.

It’s claimed that the demolition could happen as early as October of this year, but must be completed by February 2026 at the latest.

Reports claim that the cost of demolishing the derelict arena are expected to reach around £5.7MILLION.

For now, the stadium remains in its overgrown state of disrepair until the the demolition is completed.

Plans have outlined how the ground will be grassed over and become freely accessible to the public once it has been knocked to the ground.

While there is already thought to be dialogue over further development of the area in the future.

Fortunately fans already got to say their emotional farewell to the stadium in 2015, after Zbrojovka captain Petr Svancara took it upon himself to start a crowdfunding project to allow a goodbye game.

His campaign, which was backed by fans, eventually saw the stadium reopen in 2015 for 35,000 fans to watch one final match.

Svancara, who once revealed there was a crack running underneath the ground, discussed the dire state of the stadium in an interview with The Guardian.

He said: “When we came back for the first time, you could have shot a beautiful horror film there…

“The stadium had started to crumble and it was for political reasons.

“It needed reconstruction but nobody would take care of it. The club was moved to Srbska and Luzanky was filled with trees and bushes.

“Homeless people lived in the stands, and the vegetation that started to take over even became home for some rare species of bird.

“There was one funny pheasant that we ousted from the stadium when we came back but it kept returning several times – he simply came back home.

“Leaving Luzanki divided the fans into two groups – one of which loved Luzanky too much and did not want to go to another stadium

“That was the case with the older generation in particular. It hurt the identity of the club enormously.”

‘Number of drownings doubled’ -Irish water safety bosses issue warning after six swimming tragedies within weeks

WATER safety chiefs have issued an urgent warning ahead of the busy summer season – after the latest swimming tragedies in Irish waters.

As the weather improves and the evenings are getting brighter, more people are expected to return to the water for activities such as swimming and surfing.

Deputy CEO Roger Sweeney shared advice for parents to keep their children safe[/caption]

Water Safety Ireland is urging the public to be more cautious while walking on the coast or doing water activities after six tragic teenagers died in swimming tragedies within weeks.

Talking to the Irish Mirror, Deputy CEO Roger Sweeney said: “We urge everyone – parents, carers, communities, and individuals – to talk about water safety before you even leave the house, especially during warm weather when more people are drawn to the water.”

He urges parents to take a moment and teach their children the precise boundaries of Irish waters and conversation about how to stay safe while swimming.

He added: “When you bring children or friends to a waterway, take a moment to visualise drawing an imaginary line on the ground, a clear boundary that must not be crossed until you’ve assessed the risks and had a real conversation about safety.

“Once there, swim within your depth, stay within your depth and don’t take your eyes off children — not even for a second. They need constant, uninterrupted adult supervision. That means active watching — not just being nearby.”

Mr Sweeney also highlighted the importance of knowing the “lifesaving equipment” such as ringbuoys and how it is crucial to never tamper with them as it can save lives when needed.

He continued: “Talk to them about the importance of lifesaving equipment like ringbuoys — and why it’s crucial never to tamper with or misuse them.

“These are small actions — but they can make the biggest difference.”

Water Safety Ireland chiefs have also warned of the dangers of rip currents.

They said: “Rip currents are powerful, narrow channels of fast-moving water that can pull swimmers away from shore.

“If caught in one, don’t panic, swim parallel to the beach to escape the current, then head back to shore.”

It is also vital to be aware of the water and tide times and have someone to watch them before entering.

Head of Operations Section at the Irish Coast Guard, Kevin Whitney, highlighted the alarming rise in drownings this year.

He said: “In May 2025, the number of drownings has doubled compared to the same period in 2024, bringing tragic loss to families across the country.”

He urged everyone to be “mindful of the dangers, plan ahead, and follow the appropriate safety guidelines” .

And if you see somebody in trouble on the water, along the coast or think they are in trouble, use marine VHF radio Ch 16 or dial 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.

MEATH INCIDENT

The urgent appeal comes after the tragic death of Kofi Owusu, who lost his life while swimming at Laytown Beach in Co Meath, marking the sixth swimming tragedy within six weeks.

His body was recovered from the River Nanny in Laytown, Co Meath, on Friday night —  three hours after the alarm was raised.

Kofi was with friends enjoying the hot weather in the water near Laytown Beach when tragedy struck.

A member of the public called emergency services at around 6.15 pm and a major search got underway involving the Irish Coast Guard Rescue 116 helicopter the Drogheda Coast Guard.

At around 9.30pm, a body was recovered from the water following the operation.

SAFETY ADVICE FOR WATER-BASED ACTIVITIES

If you are sailing or motorboating:

  • Always wear an appropriate lifejacket
  • Always carry a means of calling and signalling for help
  • When engaging in any boating activity; Ensure there is an emergency action plan in place, and everybody has an onboard briefing
  • Get the right level of training for your craft
  • Always check the weather and tide times
  • Make sure someone on the shore knows where you are going and who to call if you don’t return on time.
  • Always operate your boat at a speed that is appropriate to the weather conditions and to the environment you are operating in.

If you are swimming:

  • Water temperatures are still cold at this year of the year, consider wearing a wetsuit to stay warm
  • Acclimatise slowly
  • Check the weather forecast and tide times
  • Never swim alone and always ensure that your activity is being monitored by a colleague

If you are heading out on the water or visiting the coast:

  • Always check the weather and tide times
  • Tell someone where you are going and what time you will be back
  • Wear a lifejacket when angling on the shoreline or riverbanks
  • Stay away from the water’s edge when out walking
  • Ensure children are under constant adult supervision when close to large bodies of water

Kofi was from the Blackrock area of Dundalk and had travelled from the northeast town to Laytown with his pals.

In an emotional post by his football club Redeemer Celtic, they lay two No 6 jerseys and flowers on their pitch in his memory.

In a post on social media, the club said: “We are Heartbroken. Closed until further notice.”

Colaiste Chu Chulainn Principal Thomas Sharkey also paid tribute, saying the school community was “heartbroken” by the teen’s death.

He also described Kofi as “a fine young man, a very kind, a very caring and a very diligent student”.

He added: “He’s an excellent sportsman. He had just played in an All-Ireland basketball final and in a Leinster soccer final in his age group of under-16.

“He finished his Junior Cert exams only 10 days ago, and his older sister was a past pupil of our school. Kofi and his family are in all of our thoughts.”

Kanye West’s wife Bianca Censori stuns onlookers as she steps out in just a sweetie bra and matching thong

BIANCA Censori has once again turned heads in a skimpy outfit that left her nearly nude while out in New York City.

The Australian-born wife of rapper Kanye West hit the town in a string bikini made of candied lollies, complete with matching underwear and silver stilettos.

The couple were spotted heading into the Mercer Hotel in New York’s Soho district.

Ye, as the rapper now prefers to be called, followed closely behind his second wife wearing a white hoodie and black jeans.

Bianca and Kanye walked into the hotel from a luxury Mercedes-Maybach car.

Onlookers looked stunned at Bianca’s bold display with many snapping pics of her with their smartphones as she walked by.

Bianca is no stranger to capturing people’s attention with her barely-there outfits.

Just last week in Los Angeles, Bianca who is the head architect for her husband’s company YEEZY, was seen wearing a plunging nude bodysuit and some white furry boots.

Ditching a bra for the occasion, Bianca’s nipples were visible through the nude bodysuit, which also had a plunging neckline.

This solo outing comes after we revealed earlier this month that Bianca has started her own business empire.

The U.S. Sun revealed at the start of June that Bianca recently set up her first U.S. company.

The model’s company is called Bianca Censori Inc.

It was registered last month with the state of California.

The architect also registered her full name Bianca Censori as an Australian firm, based in Alphington.

I’m a pet expert, these are the common garden essentials that could be KILLING your dog, you must act now

WITH the UK enjoying hot weather this weekend, plenty of us will be spending more time outside in our garden.

And as much as we want our furry friends to join us, dog owners are being warned of the potentially fatal things lurking on your plot.

A light brown dog resting in a garden.

Experts have revealed the common garden essentials that could be poisoning your dog[/caption]

Many people spend more time gardening in the summer, using fertiliser to help their gardens bloom.

But as Ross Hallifax, from pet insurance specialist Purely Pets, explains: “Not only can dogs experience skin and foot irritation if they walk on fertiliser, but it can cause stomach upset if ingested due to its toxic ingredients like nitrogen and phosphorus.”

But it’s not just fertiliser that can cause a problem for our pooches.

Used to help control unwanted garden visitors, both dry and wet pesticides can also be dangerous to your dog and irritate their skin and digestive system if consumed.

Snail and slug bait can also be highly toxic and if consumed, can cause severe tremors.

And for those refreshing their garden shed or outdoor space this summer, be careful of paint.

Both the fumes released during painting, and the product itself, can be toxic to our pets due to its high-chemical content.

If you suspect your dog has ingested something they shouldn’t have, look out for signs of vomiting, diarrhoea, hyperactivity or restlessness, tremors, seizures, or fits, or blood in the stool.

Ross adds: “If you suspect your dog has been exposed to any of these toxins, try to call your vet immediately and explain what’s happened so they can help identify the best course of treatment.”

Vet Dr Sarah-Jane Molier previously warned dog owners over fake grass as it can absorb heat, making it more likely a pup could be hurt.

Dr Sarah-Jane Molier told Pets Radar: “Tarmac, asphalt and fake grass are the most common culprits.

“They absorb heat throughout the day and retain it well, meaning they stay hot for quite some time.”

It may not always easy to tell when your dog has injured itself.

Owners should look out for any limping or resting of one leg that switches between the two.

Vet Dr. Rachel Siu reveals the 5 dogs she'd never own

By Marsha O'Mahony

HUSKY

Beautiful, intelligent, and super-active, like a Border Collie, a Husky is a working dog and likes to keep busy.

If you lead a sedentary life, then this guy is not for you, and you are not for him.

It should be no surprise that Huskies love the cold – look at that coat of fur. So, living in 110 degrees in Texas is pretty grim for these dogs.

DACHSHUND

Adorable, cute, funny, and they can be very expensive.

The basic physiology of these sausage dogs does them no favours. “Because of their long backs, they’re really prone to intervertebral disc disease,” said Dr. Rachel.

You would be wise to keep a pot of money aside just in case because back surgery is likely to be expensive.

GREAT DANE

These lolloping, loving, and gregarious dogs are “goofballs.”

But they have short lifespans, developing health issues early on in life. Prepare yourself for heartbreak.

DOODLE

These are the current “it” dog, they are everywhere. They can be mixed with pretty much any other breed.

Their popularity has soared in recent years, with pet owners attracted to their low maintenance and hypoallergenic qualities.

But this couldn’t be further from the truth, said our vet.

“These dogs are often mixed with shedding dogs so they do shed and they also need grooming very frequently,” she wrote.

Their temperament is unpredictable and she has seen some that are wonderful to work with and others who have serious behavioral problems.

BULLDOGS

These guys are adorable but they have serious respiratory problems. Genetics are not on the side of any brachycephalic dog.

“I just would not own them,” she said. “They’re just not a healthy breed. They struggle to breathe with their smooshed faces.”

Like the Dachshund, they also suffer from intervertebral disc disease.

If your canine companion doesn’t get excited for going on a walk, it could also be a sign.

They will often lick or chew their wounded paws, and be hesitant to let you touch them.

Some more obvious signs include patchy discolouration on the pads as well as blisters and peeling.

If you think your dog has burned paws, take them to the vet.
