Limerick manager Joe Quaid hits out at ‘flawed’ Camogie Championship structure following heavy defeat to Tipperary

JOE Quaid hit out at the All-Ireland Camogie Championship format as LIMERICK fell to a 4-26 to 0-8 hammering by TIPPERARY in Cappamore.

Quaid saw his side suffer a heavy Group 1 opener loss to champions Cork but beat Wexford and draw with Clare before Saturday’s defeat by the Premier heavy hitters.

The two time All-Star returned to Limerick Camogie following his shock Westmeath exit

And the former Treaty keeper insisted: “This result is proof the system is flawed.

“We had two outstanding matches against Wexford and Clare but were on the end of two hammerings by the two top-tier teams, Cork and Tipp.

“It’s disheartening for the girls. They gave everything and that’s all you can ask.

“If anyone’s interested in developing camogie they need to look at the Championship structure because these girls train as hard as the Limerick senior hurlers, they’re as committed and they don’t deserve this.

“We’ve had a remarkably good year. It’s been a fruitful year and hopefully this bunch will stick together. That’s the big problem, turnover of players. I hope all these girls will stay together next year and build again.”

Michael Ferncombe could only sympathise.

The Tipperary coach said: “We’ve played Limerick twice this year, it’s always a challenge. The scoreboard doesn’t reflect the performance and effort the Limerick girls put in — their honesty, work rate and communication.

“We’ve Clare next weekend and a quarter-final in two weeks’ time so that’s the next step.”

CLARE exploded out of the blocks at Páirc Uí Chaoimh with a Jennifer Daly goal after 45 seconds, but CORK did not panic and were full value for their 0-21 to 1-9 victory.

Next week the Rebels will play Wexford — who are in the relegation final against Dublin or Derry regardless of how they fare — and it would take an unusual set of results for Tipp to pip Cork to top spot.

In Group 2, Cathal Murray hailed his side’s “best half-hour’s hurling for a while”, as GALWAY eased to a 1-17 to 0-12 victory over KILKENNY at Nowlan Park.

There were some excellent moments from player of the match Aoife Donohoe and a late poacher’s goal from Niamh Niland.

Top spot — and a bye to the All-Ireland last four — will go to the winner of next week’s clash with Waterford in Athenry.

Murray was pleased to see his side move through the gears in the second half, as they cantered to an eight-point win.

The Tribe boss said: “Coming to Nowlan Park is never easy. There was a strong breeze. The second half was our best half an hour of hurling for a while. Our play was really good, we took some good scores.

“We’ll have to do our business again in Kenny Park in a week because Waterford are flying, they’re the form team in the group.”

WATERFORD WON’T WAVER

WATERFORD are on a roll and eased past DUBLIN, 4-16 to 2-11, at Walsh Park.

The Sky Blues’ goals came from Aisling Maher and Emma Flanagan in stoppage time, long after the result was decided.

A draw against Galway will be enough for the Déise to bypass the quarter-finals.

Waterford have hit nine majors in two games, having previously been criticised for being goal-shy. Three of their green flags came from Annie Fitzgerald.

And the Gailltir sharpshooter said: “That was massive for us, to qualify for the knockout stages early enough. Now it’s a one-match, winner-takes-all against Galway to see who goes straight to a semi-final.”

Leading 2-7 to 0-8 at half-time, the second half was one-way traffic, as the winners added 2-7 without reply after the restart.

Having already secured a first-ever Championship win over the Cats, Mick Boland’s side are looking to break fresh ground next week.

The Déise chief said: “We’ve never won in Galway. These girls have a lot of ambition, they want to win something.”

Neighbours finale ‘set to fall flat’ as only one former star signs up to appear – and A-lists snub final episode

NEIGHBOURS’ upcoming final episode could reportedly ‘fall flat’ – with only one former star signed up to appear.

Earlier this year, the beloved Aussie soap was axed for a second time, having been saved by Amazon after 37 years on Channel 5.

The original finale saw Kylie Mingoue and Jason Donovan return to Ramsay Street, alongside other show alums.

However, bosses’ attempts to bring back A-listers this time around have reportedly not panned out.

According to Daily Mail Australia, stars such as Margot Robbie, Natalie Imbruglia, Guy Pearce and Russell Crowe are all said to have snubbed the final episode.

An insider told the publication: “The cast of the current season will need to rely on the storylines that involve their characters, because breaking out the cheque book won’t cover it.”

Regarding the 2022 finale, the source added: “The mega stars waived their usual million dollar fees and felt like they were waving goodbye to the show that launched them. It was very classy.

“The fact that Alan Fletcher, Jackie Woodburn and Ryan Maloney were tipped off as the show was saved during Neighbours’ “farewell tour” was pretty awkward in retrospect.”

One confirmed returnee is Kimberley Davies, who appeared as Annalise Hartman from 1993 to 1996.

The 52-year-old later moved to the United States, appearing in episodes of Friends and Ally McBeal.

Amazon announced at the end of 2022 that it was bringing the iconic programme back in a multi-year deal.

It started filming in 2023 and was shown on Amazon Freevee worldwide.

However, last year Amazon axed the service and folded it into its Prime Video streaming offering.

And now, after two years streaming, the show will come to an end once more.

The Sun exclusively revealed production on Neighbours would be stopping this summer – with the final episode airing at the end of the year.

A source said at the time: “Amazon gave Fremantle two years to see if it worked but sadly they just didn’t get the viewers.

Neighbours stars who made it big

The long-running Aussie soap has launched the careers of some of Hollywood's biggest stars. Here are some of the Neighbours alums who went on to make it big after starring on the soap...

Kylie Minogue

  • Before she hit the big time with her music career, Kylie shot to fame playing Charlene Mitchell on Neighbours. Shortly after her arrival, Kylie began an on and off-screen romance with co-star Jason Donovan, who played Scott Robinson, which gained the couple an army of adoring fans.

Jason Donovan

  • After his stint as Scott, singer and actor Jason became an international popstar and had his pick acting of roles. He moved to the U.K., married, had children and has since starred in over a dozen West End show, most notably Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat.

Alan Dale

  • New Zealand born actor Alan was one of Neighbours 12 original cast members having made his debut as Jim Robinson on the soap’s first episode on 18 March 1985. As the head of the Robinson clan, widower Jim lived at Number 26 Ramsay Street with his children Paul, Julie, Scott and Lucy, and was a real anchor in the community. He stayed with the show for eight years, before his character was killed off in dramatic scenes aired in 1993 but which still reverberate through the soap to this day.

Margot Robbie

  • Way before she was Barbie or Harley Quinn, Margot was best known as Ramsay Street resident Donna Freedman. Her notable storylines included her marriage to Ringo Brown and becoming a young widow following his tragic death. After three years she bid farewell to the soap and Australia with a plan to make a name for herself in Hollywood which she did when she bagged the role of Naomi Lapaglia opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street.

Jesse Spencer

  • Jesse rocked up on Ramsay street in 1994 with the rest of the Kennedy clan. He stayed for five years, literally growing up in front of the camera, but in 2000 felt it was time to spread his wings and head for Hollywood. It was certainly a smart move as he went on to bag leading roles in popular shows like House and Chicago Fire.

Russell Crowe

  • New Zealand-native Russell had a brief arc on Neighbours, appearing in four episodes of the soap 1987 as Kenny Larkin, the former cellmate of Street resident Henry Ramsay. The role obviously got him noticed though because he quickly went on to become a fully-fledged Hollywood A-lister, winning the Best Actor Oscar for his standout performance as Roman General Maximus Decimus Meridius in Gladiator.

“It’s a really sad day especially for the cast and crew who work on the show in Melbourne.

“This really is the end of Neighbours just as it’s celebrated it’s 40th birthday.”

The show’s official X account posted: “We are sad to announce that Neighbours will be resting from December 2025.

“New episodes from the 40th anniversary season will continue to air on Prime Video and Ten four times a week until the end of the year, with all the big soapie twists and turns that our viewers love.”

Brit, 22, arrested at Disneyland Paris after ‘trying to marry girl, 9, in bizarre ceremony at Sleeping Beauty castle’

A BRIT has been arrested at Disneyland Paris after allegedly trying to stage a mock wedding with a nine-year-old girl.

The suspect, 22, was reportedly the “groom” in the twisted ceremony which played out before 100 horrified guests at the iconic Sleeping Beauty castle.

Guests, recruited online through ads, thought they would be attending a genuine wedding rehearsal[/caption]

Disney staff immediately called police upon spotting the child, of Ukrainian nationality, in a bridal dress with four-inch heels taped to her feet.

The lifelike ceremony – complete with white chairs, a giant cake, musicians and the castle – was reportedly attended by the girl’s family and a large crowd at dawn on Sunday.

Police arrested the man, along with the girl’s 41-year-old mum, who is believed to be Ukrainian.

The “groom” told cops the ceremony was meant to create a video for social media.

Organisers had booked the space for $130,000 (£111,000), claiming it was for a genuine wedding ceremony, according to French network BFM TV.

Footage obtained by the network showed around 100 seated guests awaiting the ceremony, as a female violin trio played before a flower-strewn stage.

A statement was issued by the prosecutor’s office in the town of Meaux, saying: “Four people were arrested and questioned: the groom, who was believed to be the organiser of the event and is presumed to be British and aged 22; the mother of the child, a 41-year-old Ukrainian woman; and two Latvian nationals aged 55 and 24.”

A 55-year-old man claimed he was hired to play the role of the bride’s dad for 12,000 euros (£10,266) – and only discovered her age at the event, local news reports.

Meanwhile, the “guests” were recruited online through ads looking for 200 adults and 100 children – aged five to 15 – to take part in a wedding “rehearsal” at Disneyland.

The extras said they had been driven from central Paris on buses at 5am and had been handed pink bracelets bearing the names of the “bride and groom”.

They were told the filming was strictly confidential, BFM TV reports.

The prosecutor’s statement added “police custody of the British suspect and a Latvian national was also extended on charges of fraud and money laundering”.

Disneyland Paris was reportedly deceived about the nature of the event.

The organiser is said to have assumed the “identity of a Latvian national”, using “false documents to secure the conclusion of the contract for privatising the park”, BFM TV reports.

Disneyland Paris told French newspaper Le Parisien that the event was immediately shut down by its team and that guests were stopped from entering the premises.

A criminal investigation has opened, according to the prosecutor’s office.

It added the young girl has not suffered any violence, as per a medical examination.

Officials say they are unsure about the nature of the event, including whether this was a prank.

The Brit “groom” claimed that he was the director of a production company and they were shooting a video, a police source told Le Parisien.

A witness who claimed to have been a wedding guest told the newspaper: “We all thought we were going to attend a wedding…

“Everyone was stunned, no one expected it. Disneyland did things very well.

“They cancelled everything as soon as they realized the bride was a child. We were shocked to see that.”

Another witness, named Yeleen, who attended the ceremony as a guest with her daughter, said: “I saw a little girl dressed in white. I saw her hair prepared with curls and a lady picking her up in her arms.

“At that moment, I was shocked. I realised when I saw the child. It was atrocious.”

The prosecutor’s office said: “So it wasn’t a wedding, but a staged wedding filmed with around a hundred extras.

“They privatized Disneyland Paris, pretending it was a real wedding.”

The two suspects are being questioned over “fraud and breach of trust” against Disneyland Paris, the prosecutor’s office said.

They are set to appear before a judge at Meaux judicial court on Monday as part of a formal judicial investigation.

In 2019, Michael Jackson reportedly exchanged rings with a nine-year-old child “bride” in a creepy mock wedding ceremony at the Neverland Ranch, court documents claim.

A lawsuit filed on behalf of accuser James Safechuck claims his father was then paid $1million hush money after the secret union at his Californian mansion.

Maya Jama left stunned as Love Island star’s mum admits ‘I didn’t know who you were’ before son joined show

An image collage containing 1 images, Image 1 shows Screenshot of a woman with long dark hair looking surprised

MAYA Jama was left stunned when a Love Island star’s mum admitted she “didn’t know who the presenter was” before her son joined the show.

Host Maya, 30, looked surprised when Harry’s mum made the confession on last night’s Love Island: Aftersun.

As the host chatted to Harry‘s mother, she admitted that she had never watched Love Island.

She said she had no idea how the show worked, until her son was on it.

Looking at Maya, she then said: “I didn’t even know who you were!”

The A-list host looked stunned by confession as she continued the interview.

Harry’s mum had a lot to say last night which even saw her “disown” her son.

It came after they talked about his antics in the villa which have seen him couple up with Helena, then snog Yasmin, before deciding he really wants to be with Shakira.

Speaking about his behaviour, Harry’s mum said: “I do not recognise him.

“He just says what he wants to say and it just seems to roll off his tongue so easily.”

Harry mum then said: “On more than one occasion I’ve completely disowned him. Harry who?

“How can you forget the cameras are on you?”

AFTERSUN SLIP UP

It was quite an eventful night on Aftersun last night, which saw a few blunders occur.

The first one happened when Maya was chatting to Love Island legend Amy Hart, influencer Ash Holme and superfan Sam Thompson about the ongoing drama in the villa.

However, during the chat she lost an earring after getting a little too excited.

The host was left scrambling after one of her shell earrings fell out of her earlobe mid-chat.

She attempted to move the conversation to a new set of Islanders as she declared: “Onto Helena and Harry now.”

But turning away from the panel, she gasped: “Oops, lost an earring”.

The director was forced to cut to a wide shot of the studio instead of the usual closeup as she tried to find the accessory on the sofa.

Later Maya made another blunder when she got a guest’s name wrong.

Malisha was previously dumped from the villa, after bombshell Harrison chose Toni to couple up with.

When referring to her eviction, Maya accidently referred to the star as one of the contestants who was still in the villa.

Before introducing Malisha into the studio, the presenter enthusiastically said: “Let’s welcome our bombshell, queen Alima … Malisha!”

The star waved her arms up in the air in frustration after she immediately corrected the slip up.

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.

The FREE gift teachers want from students at the end of the year – it takes minutes to do & isn’t a handwritten card

WITH the end of term fast approaching, if you have no idea what to get your child’s teacher, you’ve come to the right place.

So if you’ve got a little one and aren’t sure whether to buy their teacher a gift card, a bottle of wine or a box of chocolates to say thank you, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

Teachers revealed the presents they really want from students – and handwritten notes and emails to headteachers are on the list[/caption]

Gifts cards also made the cut[/caption]

It comes after a mum-of-two named Lou took to social media to ask teachers what gifts they actually want to receive.

The content creator shared her short clip with the caption “Primary school teacher gifts help?!”

Alongside her video, Lou then asked: “Primary school teachers: What makes a great gift?

“I don’t want to just get a mug or a key ring.

“Tell me something you actually WANT to get?”

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @lemon_squeezey, was posted just three days ago, but has quickly racked up 242,600 views, 566 likes and 916 comments.

Teachers eagerly flocked to the comments to share the gifts parents should buy – with many suggesting gift cards.

But there’s also a free item that takes minutes to do and isn’t a handmade card.

Not only this, but others swore by DIY crafts, whilst some teachers would prefer to receive something a bit more fun.

At the same time, teachers also acknowledged the gifts they do not want to receive – and key rings are firmly on the list.

One teacher shared a free idea that is so simple but really effective: “An email to the headteacher saying how amazing we are.”

To this, Lou replied: “Love this idea, 100% going to do this!”

Appreciation is the best gift

Teacher

Another responded and agreed: “I am a secondary teacher – and I would say it works even better (emailing headteacher) than in primary. We rarely get presents etc and even more rarely get recognised for our work!”

At the same time, someone else responded: “Yes this would be a great gift. Appreciation is the best gift.”

Not only this, but other teachers revealed alternative gifts they would love to receive, as one person said: “A card is perfect but if you can a voucher is much appreciated.

Should you buy a teacher a gift?

IF you are wondering whether or not to buy your child's teacher an end-of-year gift, look no further...

As the summer holidays fast approach, Fabulous Senior Digital Writer and mum-of-two Sarah Bull weighs in on whether you should feel obliged to buy your kids’ teachers a present to mark the end of term.

Sarah said: “It can be pricey trying to keep the kids entertained during six weeks off school.

“But before the end of term, parents all over the country are also trying to budget for gifts for their kids’ teachers too.

“With teachers, teaching assistants, SEN specialists and other beloved staff members to buy for, it can be an expensive business.

“And while lots of schools actively discourage parents from spending their money on end-of-term presents for teachers, I consider it an obligation.

“After all – I know how tough my kids can be at home, and their teachers have to keep them in check for the majority of the day – so don’t they deserve a token of appreciation?

“I also wouldn’t want my children to feel left out when their friends arrive at school armed with pressies for their teachers.

“While some parents go all out with gifts, with alcohol and flowers popular choices, I’ll be doing my best to stay at the £5 mark for each of the four staff members I’ll be buying for.

“And with some fab options in stores like Poundland, Home Bargains and B&M, it should be easy for me to stick to my budget.”

“Please no coffee cups or key rings or things like that.”

Another added: “The most useful present I ever got was a gift card. The whole class contributed to an M&S Voucher. I had £200 and bought new bedding and new towels and honestly was so appreciative as I’d wanted to replace them for ages.”

Whilst a third commented: “I had a lovely little notebook and the mum had written a little message inside saying what a fantastic job I had done with supporting her son. That appreciation meant the world to me.”

My class last year all clubbed together and got the teacher and myself a John Lewis voucher

Not only this, but the woman continued: “I also had a pot that was hand-printed by the child and was dated, which is also something to cherish.”

Meanwhile, someone else chimed in: “I work in a school, and whilst everything is absolutely appreciated, one class all put together and bought us a bottomless brunch in Manchester. It was lovely!”

At the same time, another user explained: “I am a LSA [Learning Support Assistant] and don’t expect gifts but love a homemade card.

Terrifying moment CNN star Anderson Cooper forced to flee while live on TV in Israel during Iran missile attack

THIS is the harrowing moment CNN anchor Anderson Cooper is forced to quickly evacuate his post in Israel while live on air amid a terrifying missile blitz.

The iconic newsreader was discussing the raging Middle East conflict on TV as Iran rained hell on Tel Aviv, forcing him and his crew to run for their lives.

The CNN host dashed for a bomb shelter following Iran’s retaliatory strikes

Cooper was speaking with CNN’s chief international correspondent, Clarissa Ward, and Jerusalem correspondent Jeremy Diamond, when blaring sirens started to sound in the early hours of Monday.

Horrified spectators watched in suspense as Cooper and his crew made a daring escape during the mullah’s revenge strike.

Tehran’s retaliatory blitz came after Donald Trump made the bombshell decision to strike the Ayatollah’s key nuclear sites on Sunday through Operation Midnight Hammer.

In the shocking footage, the trio are stood on a hotel balcony while discussing the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict.

Suddenly, the frightening sound of the alarms start to ring out, and Ward says: “I should just say that we’re now hearing an alert.”

Cooper tells viewers that they are receiving alerts on their phones saying that Tehran is about to strike in just 10 minutes.

He tells the shocked audience: “So these are these are the alerts that go out on all of our phones when you’re in Israel.

“It’s a 10-minute warning of incoming missiles or something incoming from Iran.”

He continues: “So now the location we’re in has a verbal alarm telling people to go down into bomb shelters.

“So we have about a 10-minute window to get down into a bomb shelter.”

The shaken CNN star asks his crew if they can keep filming while making a run for it.

Cooper’s voice wavers as the team make the quick decision to run downstairs to a bunker while continuing the broadcast.

He can be heard saying: “And we’ll continue to try to broadcast from that, that bomb shelter. And even if we can, on the way down.”

The news star asks: “I think we’re going to head down to the shelters – Chuck, do we have capabilities as we go down?”

The crew member replies: “Just checking your microphones. Be ready in a second.”

Cooper then continues to talk viewers through their evacuation while he and the crew escape from their hotel room to the bomb shelter.

A frightening announcement can also be heard blasting from the hotel speakers.

A staff member says: “Dear guests, we expect an alarm in the next 10 minutes.”

The Israel Defence Force confirmed the incoming strikes on Monday morning, but said that only one missile was launched and intercepted.

They added that there were no injuries.

It comes as the Don suggested toppling Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to “Make Iran Great Again” after blitzing the mad mullahs’ nuke plants.

Inspired by his Make America Great Again (MAGA) political movement, the president called for “Make Iran Great Again” (MIGA).

Trump wrote on Truth Social: “It’s not politically correct to use the term, ‘Regime Change’ but if the current Iranian Regime is unable to MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN, why wouldn’t there be a Regime change??? MIGA!!”

Iran’s Supreme Leader is now plotting his revenge as the world holds its breath for a counter-punch against the global superpower.

Tehran may also close the Strait of Hormuz – a bottleneck entrance to the Persian Gulf where nearly a quarter of the oil shipped around the world passes through narrow waters.

Choking off the Gulf would send global oil prices skyrocketing and derail the world economy.

It may also lead to fighting with the US Navy‘s massive Fifth Fleet based nearby, which is tasked with keeping the strait open.

Trump has already warned that further action could be taken if Tehran doesn’t agree to an adequate peace deal, or tries to harm American interests.

Love Island fans slam girl for ‘double standards’ as she dresses up in racy outfit after slamming bombshell’s style

LOVE Island fans have blasted one villa girl for ‘double standards’ after she slipped into a racy outfit – just days after slating a bombshell’s sexy style.

Viewers took to social media in droves to call out the islander’s “hypocritical” behaviour as tensions continue to simmer in the sun-soaked villa.

Taking to X, one fan fumed: “Hold on is Megan wearing latex? The same latex she hounded Yasmin for #LoveIsland”.

Another added: “They slagged her off when she was in the hideaway, the next morning, repeatedly called her boring, said she wasn’t even good looking, called her fake and a game player, made fun of her for wearing a latex dress, repeatedly made fun of her around the fire pit in the game.”

This comes after a tense exchange between Meg and Yasmin made fans threaten to call Ofcom, accusing the girls of “ganging up.”

Fans watched on as Yasmin snogged two of the boys in the villa during a game of beer pong.

Yasmin’s first snog occurred with Dejon, who is coupled up with Meg, but he was tasked with snogging the Islander he found most attractive, aside from his partner.

He went straight over to Yasmin as Meg watched on, and snogged her.

Later on in the game, Yasmin ended up snogging Harry too, despite being coupled up with Shea

And some of the girls questioned Yasmin’s motives after the villa snogs, including Meg who was shocked to see love interest Dejon’s kiss with her.

The threats of Ofcom come as Meg said to Yasmin in front of the group: “Wait, how can you still be happy in your couple if you’re snogging everyone but the man you’re coupled up with?”

Yasmin fired back: “It’s just a game,” to which Meg responded: “But you’re saying you’re happy in your couple.”

Things were obviously tense between the ladies, as Yasmin backed her reasoning, responding: “Everyone’s playing the games way too safe and you’re here to explore connections and to take risks.”

Not backing down, Meg added: “I know it’s a game, but you got asked if you’re happy in your couple and you said yes, and you’ve not once kissed your man. Don’t think you’re happy in your couple.”
