Iconic car brand to bring back tiny hatchback as ultra-futuristic EV that will rival Hyundai, Renault & Fiat 500

A POPULAR car brand is set to bring back a much-loved electric vehicle to rival Hyundai and Fiat 500.

Honda’s all-electric vehicle is due to make a comeback in July at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The ‘all-electric urban concept vehicle’ has been dubbed a successor to the popular Honda e.

Its “futuristic successor” is set to include a new EV platform, batteries and motor, giving the beloved car a significant upgrade.

The e was available from 2020 to 2023, featuring a five-door hatchback design and battery-electric powerchain.

Its design was modelled on the early-generation Civic, with a compact super-mini structure that is perfect for city driving.

Now, the prototype of the brand’s new Super EV Concept incorporates the same retro features that made the brand so popular in the 1970s.

The brand is adapting to the needs of modern drivers though, with an all-electric motor.

With a prototype of the car released in advance of the festival, motorists have expressed their excitement over the boxy design.

Its compact design makes it perfect for navigating busy city streets, and could rival the Fiat 500 in terms of practicality.

It is believed to be slightly taller and narrower than the original e, as car enthusiasts are also hoping for a better battery-life than the brand’s older model.

While not much has been announced about the car, Honda told Top Gear that it was “designed to demonstrate how an A-segment model might offer fresh, ‘fun-to-drive’ electric performance alongside trademark Honda usability.”

Not only is the car compact, but it could also be available at an affordable price.

Other electric hatchbacks offering similar spec – like the Fiat 500E -typically cost between £15,000 and £30,000.

While the company has not confirmed that it will become a production car, they have confirmed that it has undergone feasibility testing in the UK.

It has led motor experts to predict that the Super EV Concept could be among the seven EV’s Honda are launching by 2030.

Motorists can get their first glimpse of the car when it makes its debut on the 1.16-mile hill course at Goodwood Festival of Speed in West Sussex between July 10 to July 13.

It isn’t the only model Honda plan to debut at Goodwood, with its electric 0 Series SUV also premiering at the event.

A prototype of the SUV was showcased at a Formula One event in Tokyo earlier this year.

The model is set to launch in early 2026 and could rival the Tesla Model Y with its driver assistance systems.

They will also be debuting two concept electric motorcycles.

This includes the EV Fun Concept – a “full size” electric motorcycle, and the Urban EV Concept, a smaller alternative.

A statement from Hans de Jaeger, the Senior Vice President of Honda Motor Europe, said: “We are excited to return to the Goodwood Festival of Speed this year with a dynamic pan-brand showcase of everything Honda has to offer our European customers.

“Our business is about more than our products alone, but how our customers feel when they are using them, and this has been the inspiration behind our stand design this year.”

‘My approach would be different’ – Former Man Utd manager claims Bayern Munich should never have signed Harry Kane

RALF RANGNICK has claimed that Harry Kane should never have been bought by Bayern Munich.

The England captain joined the Bundesliga giants in 2023 in a stunning £104million deal from Tottenham Hotspur.

The striker cost the German giants £104m in 2023[/caption]

Kane, 31, has been a huge hit in Germany and has taken his goalscoring to a new level.

The striker has already notched 83 goals in just 93 appearances for Bayern in all competitions.

He has also added 26 assists, meaning he has contributed towards a goal more than once every 90 minutes on average.

Kane went trophyless in his first season at the club but won the Bundesliga title last season – the first major honour of his career.

Despite his impressive record, former Manchester United manager Rangnick does not think the transfer should have happened.

The Austrian has suggested that Bayern made the wrong move buying the prolific forward as it was not “sensible”.

He told Sport: “If I were the club owner or sporting director, I would only try to sign young players and invest in them.

“Because no matter how you look at it, it’s the only sensible thing to do.

“They’ll never get the money back. And if you’re unlucky, the player won’t even be of any use after one or two years.

“With an investment like that, you can only use part of the money in the first three years at most.”

Harry Kane's 2024-25 Bayern Munich season statistics.

Rangnick went as far to suggest that the transfer was comparable to betting on a roulette table.

He added: “It’s like a bet or a visit to the casino where I bet 130million on red or white.

“I know I’m exaggerating a bit, but you know what I mean.”

Rangnick, 66, managed Man United in an interim basis during the second half of the 2021/22 season.

He left Old Trafford in 2022 after the club decided to part ways with him.

He is now the manager of the Austrian international team.

Meanwhile, Kane recently helped break Boca Juniors’ hearts at the Club World Cup.

He netted in the 2-1 victory which has left the Argentine side on the cusp of being eliminated from the tournament.

Chelsea cult hero Damien Duff, 46, ‘closes in on Premier League job’ days after bombshell resignation

He leaves the club after almost four years in the dugout and on the eve of a crunch Champions League qualification tie against Linfield.

But it appears Duff, 46, will not be out of work for long amid links to the Prem.

According to Ben Jacobs, the former Newcastle and Blackburn star is being considered by Brentford as a backroom staff option.

The Bees are understood to be close to appointing their set-piece coach Keith Andrews as their new manager.

Andrews played with Duff at international level with the Republic of Ireland.

But this would be his first stint as a head coach, which may be why Brentford are keen to add Duff’s experience.

The Bees have been without a manager since June 12 when Thomas Frank left for Tottenham in a club record £10million deal.

He was joined in moving to north London by assistant Justin Cochrane.

Brentford looked internally when they appointed Frank to succeed Dean Smith in 2018 and could look in-house once more.

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna has also been linked with a switch to the Gtech Community Stadium, as has former Ajax manager Francesco Farioli.

Saipan film trailer splits opinion as Irish football fans voice concern about Roy Keane portrayal

A 76-second teaser trailer for the upcoming Saipan film has been released – and met with a mixed reaction from Irish football fans.

Éanna Hardwicke has been cast as Roy Keane while Steve Coogan will play Mick McCarthy.

Ironically, Saipan was an R&R pit stop with facilities on their main training base turning out to be excellent[/caption]

The trailer showcases the remote island in the Pacific Ocean that went down in Irish football infamy as a blazing row between the two resulted in Ireland’s captain playing no part in the 2002 World Cup.

We hear both actors in character and naturally enough, their voices are raised in virtually every snippet.

There’s also atmospheric news bulletins read out in order to hammer home how this was a story that dominated front pages as well as back across the entire Irish media landscape.

76 seconds is never going to be enough to make a worthwhille judgement from any film but the prevailing point of debate touched upon Hardwicke’s appearance.

Several fans voiced their concern that no matter how adept of an actor he is, he simply doesn’t bear enough of a resemblance to Keane to fully inhabit the role.

Paul commented: “As expected, Coogan nails McCarthy but they could have at least attempted to cast an actor with some kind of resemblance to Keane.”

Similarly, Michael added: “That bloke looks nothing like Roy Keane, he looks more like Vinny Jones. I mean Roy Keane is alive should have just got the man himself.”

Additionally, Steven expressed his anger by quoting Keane’s most famous catchphrase.

He quipped: “It doesn’t look like they can do their job i.e. Be believable as Roy Keane and Mick McCarthy!!”

However, not everyone was immediately casting a pessimistic eye based off what they saw from the cast and the wider film-making style on show.

IFB Media posted: “Excited to see this! The Saipan incident is/was one of the most divisive stories in modern memory and it’s not even close.

“What could’ve been with Roy will never be known but it’s sad when you consider we haven’t returned to the World Cup since the 2002 tournament. 2026?”

Philip also sounded keen on it as he drew a parallel between the World Cup flashpoint and an equally significant historic event.

He tweeted: “Can’t wait for this – the trailer is giving Cuba Missile Crisis vibes.”

HSE apologises after girl, 13, given wrong Covid-19 vaccine with used needle amid €20,000 settlement

THE HSE has apologised to and compensated a 13-year-old girl who was given a wrong Covid-19 vaccination with an already used needle.

A court heard Ella Mockler Mulhern, now within six weeks of her 18th birthday, had suffered significantly as a result of the HSE’s triple take on negligence and breach of duty.

Barrister James Cross, who appeared with James McSweeney Solicitors, Tallaght, Dublin, represented Ella in the Circuit Civil Court.

Mr Cross told Judge Fiona O’Sullivan HSE staff administered the wrong vaccination when Ella attended a vaccination centre in Citywest Hotel, Saggart, Dublin, in August 2021.

And the barrister revealed how a nurse had done so with a needle used already on one of three other people.

Ella’s father Niall Mulhern, of Beech Park, Lucan, County Dublin, told the court in written evidence that the second vaccination had been administered without discussion with and the consent of either himself or his daughter.

He said the nurse involved had denied that the first syringe had been used previously but on his further inquiry from the Clinical Lead Nurse an investigation had been carried out it had been confirmed the syringe had been used on another person but the nursing staff had been unable to identify on which one of three other people it had been used.

Mr Cross said Ella had to undergo blood tests and she had to be vaccinated for Hapatitis B.

He said at least one of the possible three people who could have been injected with the syringe used on Ella had refused to undergo blood tests and as a result Ella had to undergo a post-exposure antiretroviral therapy course for a month.

Judge O’Sullivan heard this had caused Ella to feel acutely unwell with symptoms of nausea.

She had been upset and distressed by what had happened and had been unable to attend school for almost a month. Ella had to undergo tests for Hepatitis C and HIV, suffering psychological sequelae as a result and also developing a fear of doctors.

Just under a year later Ella had developed an abscess which had ruptured during her school sports day causing her considerable further distress and which had to be treated with antibiotics. It was not known if this had been due to the treatment she had received in Citywest.

HSE SETTLEMENT

Mr Cross said an initial settlement offer of €11,500 by HSE had been rejected earlier by another judge. This had been followed by an offer of €16,500 and latterly by an offer of €20,000, expenses and legal costs which Mr Cross said he was recommending to the court.

Judge O’Sullivan, approving of the HSE’s final offer, said the injuries associated with what had happened would have had a serious impact on the child and she felt €20,000 compensation was acceptable in the circumstances.

Barrister Seamus Breen, counsel for the HSE read out an apology on behalf of his client during which he said the defendant accepted responsibility for what had happened and pointing out that Ella was blameless for what had occurred. He said the HSE wished Ella every success in her life.

Arsenal ‘join Bradley Barcola transfer race’ following £100m Liverpool pursuit of PSG superstar

ARSENAL have sensationally entered the race for explosive PSG winger Bradley Barcola and are reportedly challenging Liverpool the £100million star.

SunSport exclusively revealed that Premier League champions Liverpool intend to add the winger to their £116.5million signing of Bayer Leverkusen‘s Florian Wirtz.

Arne Slot‘s side were aware of interest from Bayern Munich but were willing to battle them for the signature of the highly-rated winger.

And now L’Equipe is reporting that Arsenal have also expressed interest even though their initial approach was knocked back by PSG.

The Gunners are reportedly open to selling Gabriel Martinelli this summer and that could open the door for the Barcola’s arrival.

However they will have to first beat champions Liverpool and other chasing clubs to his signature.

The 22-year-old impressed at the start of the campaign but as the season progressed competition for a spot in PSG’s starting XI became more intense.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia joined from Napoli for a £60million fee in January and was quickly thrust into the first team.

Meanwhile Desire Doue also rose to prominence after a slow start to life at PSG.

All those factors meant that Barcola was on the bench more often than he would have liked.

Yet he still bagged 21 goals in all competitions as PSG enjoyed their greatest ever season, winning Ligue 1 and the French Cup before thrashing Inter Milan 5-0 in the Champions League final.

BEST ONLINE CASINOS – TOP SITES IN THE UK

He’s regarded as one of the rising stars of French football with pace, a brilliant technique and an eye for goals.

The former Lyon man was one of the players that PSG’s new project was built around.

So manager Luis Enrique is expected to resist any transfer advances for the talented star.

Bradley Barcola's PSG 2024-25 season stats: games played, chances created, goals, assists, shots on target, passes, and fouls.

Barcola found himself on the bench again for last month’s Champions League final against Inter Milan.

Bayern Munich have made no secret of their intention to test PSG’s resolve to keep Barcola, who they signed from Lyon for £38m in 2023.

Liverpool will look to raise funds by offloading erratic forward Darwin Nunez, 25, and will also consider offers for 28-year-old pair Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.

Group 1-winning Aidan O’Brien monster pulled from all summer races after Royal Ascot ‘balls up’

GROUP 1-winning monster Los Angeles has been pulled from all the big summer races – after a Royal Ascot ‘balls up’.

Aidan O’Brien’s millionaire Tattersalls Gold Cup hero flopped completely when 13-8 fav for last week’s Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot.

PA
Los Angeles is out of all the big races over the summer and his main aim will now be October’s Arc de Triomphe[/caption]

Sweating and ridden prominently by Ryan Moore, team Ballydoyle looked to, for once, get it wrong as Los Angeles went way too quick trying to keep up with pacemaker Continuous.

Both looked on fumes up the straight and soon gave way to awesome winner Ombudsman.

Los Angeles finished fifth in the end, beaten some seven lengths.

O’Brien says the poor showing means he will be removed from some of the money-spinning races over the next few weeks.

And he won’t be seen again until near October time, with one prep run coming before a tilt at the Arc.

O’Brien told the Nick Luck Daily podcast: “Los Angeles will have a break.

“He had a tough, hard race and sometimes that happens when the pace is very, very strong.

“He had a tough race and he won’t run again until he has a prep race for the Arc.

“He won’t run in the King George – it was too tough on him and he’ll need a bit of time.”

Respected racing presenter Lydia Hislop described Los Angeles’ Ascot run as a rare ‘balls up’ under Moore.

She said: “Clealry there has been a setback or recalling as a result of what happened – a stayer was burst going too fast.

“It sounds as though rather than just having a torrid time in the race, that it has had some sort of lingering effect, as the plan was all the top races over the summer.

“They have a ring around the Arc now – but he has got to get there and it is sad news.

“Los Angeles is a big favourite of mine and what has happeneed is unfortunate.

“But, as Aidan and Ryan have done, it’s best to put your hands up and come clean if you balls something up – we all do it!”

Garnacho ‘branded “f***ing Ronaldo wannabe” by Rashford’s inner circle’ before becoming ‘brothers’ in Man Utd exile

ALEJANDRO GARNACHO was branded a “Ronaldo wannabe” by Marcus Rashford’s inner circle before the two Manchester United outcasts became “brothers”, according to a stunning report.

Rashford and Garnacho appear destined for the Old Trafford exit door this summer, with Ruben Amorim set to exile the duo from his pre-season squad to force them out.

Reuters
It is a far cry from an inner member of Rashford’s camp allegedly calling the Argentine a ‘Ronaldo wannabe’[/caption]

Both were on the receiving end of Amorim‘s wrath back in December when they were dropped for the Manchester derby.

Rashford has not played for Man Utd since, and in January went on loan to Aston Villa where he scored four goals and added six assists.

Meanwhile, Garnacho managed to earn his place back and was a key but frustrating figure under Amorim until a public strop after the Europa League final saw the former Sporting Lisbon tell him in no uncertain terms to find a new club.

Both have been on holiday following the season, with Garnacho recently sharing a post on social media of him wearing an Aston Villa shirt with the name of “Rashford” and number nine on the back.

The 20-year-old’s outfit choice left many Red Devils fans furious.

Rashford replied to the post by saying: “My brother,” followed by a heart emoji.

And that label is a far cry from when the Argentine winger was once labelled as a “f***ing Ronaldo wannabe” by a member of the 27-year-old’s inner circle, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Garnacho’s admiration of the Portuguese legend is no secret, though it is also clear to see he still has some way to go in both skill and attitude before he truly hold a candle to such an icon.

BEST ONLINE CASINOS – TOP SITES IN THE UK

The report goes on to explain how Rashford’s social media pages have previously been run by brother and agent, Dwaine Maynard.

Over the weekend an interview with Rashford emerged where he openly admitted he would “love” to play alongside Lamine Yamal at Barcelona, and even said he is willing to take a wage cut and position change to make it happen.

Speaking to Spanish YouTube channel XBuyer in Marbella, Rashford was asked whether he wants to play with Yamal one day, declaring: “Yeah, sure. Everybody in the world wants to play with the best. So hopefully, we’ll see…”

On moving from the wing to a central forward role, Rashford added: “For me as I’ve got older, the No9 position is becoming more comfortable, more natural.

“Things like playing with back to goal is becoming easier for me, you’re always in front of the goal and always dangerous.”

As well as Barcelona, Sun Sport has revealed how Eddie Howe wants to bring the Englishman to Newcastle as they prepare for a campaign in the Champions League next season.

Meanwhile, Garnacho has been left to his own devices along with his brother, Roberto, on social media, though both have proven themselves to lack a filter and often post what comes to mind in thinly-veiled criticisms of decisions made by Man Utd bosses.

He has been linked with a move to Serie A champions Napoli to reunite with Scott McTominay, though Sun Sport have exclusively reported how they will only go for one of him or Jack Grealish in a £45million deal.

Last week Man Utd learned they will face Arsenal on the opening day of the Premier League, with fixtures against Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool all coming in their first eight games.
