‘It’s quick and easy way to check your alcohol levels’ – Drop by breathalyser installed at busy GAA club

A BREATHLYSER has been installed at St. Eunan’s GAA club in the hopes of reducing drink driving on Irish roads.

The Flinebox breathalyser programme is an initiative of Road Safety Authority Ireland supported by An Garda Siochana.

The scheme is meant as both an educational and preventative measure.

The Flinebox device has a touch electronic screen with a straw to blow into so that patrons can check their alcohol levels on site quickly and easily.

The device uses the same reliable sensor found in law enforcement breathalysers.

The RSA took to social media to share the update with their followers.

They wrote on Facebook: “A Fline Box breathalyser is now in place at St. Eunan’s Camp Grounds, O’Donnell Park, Letterkenny.

If you’re in Letterkenny this weekend, swing by and give it a try!

It’s a quick and easy way to check your alcohol levels. Drive safe.

And the free device is now available all weekends at the GAA club.

New data from the RSA has revealed a worrying trend as nearly half of people who tested their alcohol levels at Flinebox breathalyser kiosks mistakenly believed they were under the legal limit.

The findings come from an RSA pilot programme, which trialled Flinebox breathalyser kiosks at hospitality locations and events across Ireland over six months.

The initiative aims to give people real-time feedback on their alcohol levels, helping them make informed decisions before getting behind the wheel.

During the six-month pilot, over 24,000 breathalyser tests and surveys were conducted.

It said that 45 per cent of people who tested over the legal limit mistakenly believed they were fit to drive.

And 77 per cent of those who mistakenly believed they were under the limit had said they were going to drive.

The data also highlighted that young men aged 18-34 were most likely to underestimate their alcohol levels and say they were going to drive.

Sarah O’Connor, Director of Partnerships and External Affairs at the RSA, said: “We are urging drivers not to rely on guesswork when it comes to alcohol and driving.

“This data shows that many people wrongly assume they’re under the limit when they’re not – putting themselves and others at serious risk.

‘EDUCATION MEASURE’

“We introduced the breathalyser kiosks as an education measure to help drivers get a clear, scientific measure of their alcohol levels.

“The pilot made it clear that people struggled to understand their own level of impairment.”

She continued: “But the real message is simple: if you have a drink, don’t drive.

“The safest option is to plan ahead, arrange alternative transport, and never take a chance behind the wheel.

“This data is a stark reminder that our perception of how alcohol affects us is often flawed. Never ever drink and drive.”

The RSA pilot programme ran from August 2024 to February 2025, with Flinebox kiosks placed in hotels, bars, and event venues across Mayo, Galway, Cork, Limerick, Laois, and Westmeath.

When is Black Friday 2025?

Black Friday lands on November 28 this year.

As always, Black Friday takes place after the US Thanksgiving celebrations and marks the start of a busy spending period leading up to Christmas.

Black Friday was once an American-only event, but it’s now just as big here in the UK, with tens of thousands of brands and shops taking part.

Is Apple taking part in Black Friday this year?

Not directly, as Apple doesn’t traditionally do Black Friday sales in-store or online.

However, the brand has previously offered a voucher scheme that spans Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

But shoppers needn’t worry as plenty of other retailers, including Amazon, Currys, and John Lewis, are expected to offer impressive discounts on Apple products.

Just make sure you shop around to find the best deal for you.

When is Cyber Monday 2025 and is Apple taking part?

In 2025, Cyber Monday falls on December 2.

Cyber Monday was initially designed to be an online-focused shopping event compared to Black Friday, which has its roots in store.

Now, there’s not a big difference between the two events, and most retailers continue sales over the entire Black Friday weekend.

As mentioned above, Apple has previously offered a voucher scheme that spans Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

How much does Apple delivery cost?

Apple offers free standard shipping on all online orders.

Speedier delivery methods are also available additional fee.

Of course, if you’re shopping for discounts, they’re not to be found on the Apple website.

Instead, you’ll find Apple offers at the major retail department stores and the likes of Amazon and Currys.

So, your best bet is to check the delivery costs and time scales with your chosen retailer.

THE HISTORY OF DUNNES STORES

DUNNES Stores opened its first store on Patrick Street in Cork in 1944 - and it was an instant hit.

Shoppers from all over the city rushed to the store to snap up quality clothing at pre-war prices in Ireland’s first ‘shopping frenzy’.

During the excitement, a window was forced in and the police had to be called to help control the crowds hoping to bag founder Ben Dunne’s ‘Better Value’ bargains.

Dunnes later opened more stores in the 1950s and began to sell groceries in 1960 – starting with apples and oranges.

The retailer said: “Fruit was expensive at the time and Ben Dunne yet again offered Better Value than anyone else in town.

“Over time, our food selection has grown and that spirit of good value has remained strong.

“Now we offer a wide range of carefully-sourced foods from both local Irish suppliers and overseas.”

The retailer’s first Dublin store opened its doors in 1957 on Henry Street and a super store on South Great Georges Street was unveiled in 1960.

They added: “In 1971, our first Northern Irish store opened, and many others soon followed.

“Expansion continued in the 1980s in Spain, and later into Scotland and England.”

Dunnes now has 142 stores and employs 15,000 people.

‘We need you back on radio’, cry fans as RTE star Jen Zamparelli shares ‘cute’ snaps with rarely-seen kids and hubby

RTE star Jennifer Zamparelli has left her fans gushing after she shared some “cute” snaps of her family.

The Dancing With The Stars host and her husband Lauterio have been together for over 17 years and share two kids together, Florence and Enzo.

With summer now firmly underway and kids being off school, Jen has had far more opportunities to spend time with her kids.

The mum-of-two took to her Instagram today to share some recent memories of her family with followers.

In the first photo she shared, Jen and her husband, Lauterio look more in love than ever as they pose for a quick selfie.

In a different selfie, the pair had stripped down to soak in some of the recent Irish heat.

Jen looked fabulous in a green strapped bikini while Lauterio opted to lose his t-shirt entirely after coming out of the water.

She also shared some previously unseen snaps from a recent family trip to Italy.

The family-of-four looked like they were having a ball as the pair’s two kids walked alongside their dad, while Jen stepped back to capture the adorable moment on film.

Elsewhere on their trip, Jen’s kids enjoyed some activities while they waited for their food in a restaurant.

Jen also shared a suited-up selfie, the star looked TV ready and she stopped to take a quick picture in her car before heading into work.

Sharing the recent memories with fans, Jennifer wrote: “Lately…”

Friends and fans raced to the presenter’s comment section to gush over her “cute” snaps.

Linda said: “Looks like fun.”

Laura commented: “Very cute!”

Joe remarked: “Jen you are the best x.”

NEXT IN LIVELINE

Rory gushed: “We need you back on the radio Jen.”

Although fans may be dying to hear Jen on the radio soon, the former RTE Two FM host broke her silence on whether she’ll be taking over Liveline.

Joe’s final show is just weeks away on June 27 and RTE have said they will run a process over the coming months to appoint Joe’s successor, with an announcement in the autumn.

Speculation over who will be replacing the radio veteran has been rife since revealing he’s retiring and one name that has continuously popped up is Jennifer Zamparelli, who left her 2FM show last year.

‘NO CHANCE IN HELL’

When the mum-of-two was asked what she thinks about being a contender for the slot, she told The Irish Sun: “I don’t know if Liveline can go on without him, that’s the thing.

“There’s a new head of audio and they might just… RTE are great for shaking things up and doing something different, aren’t they? They’re mad for that. But we’ll see.

“I haven’t got any calls. I’ve been getting many calls, but not from that department as of yet. But who knows.

“Would I consider it? I think you’d be mad not to consider it. You’d be so scared to take on that role.

“And you’d need to be appointed by Joe. You’d need full approval. Otherwise you’d have no chance in hell.”

Eberechi Eze interested in Tottenham transfer as they make Crystal Palace star major target but face fight to get him

EBERECHI EZE is interested in spearheading Thomas Frank’s Tottenham revolution.

New Spurs boss Frank wants to sign a new wideman this summer and Crystal Palace star Eze is a major target.

Spurs have followed the Palace star for years

But the Dane faces competition for the England man’s services, as SunSport understands a few other clubs are keen.

Sources suggest that while it is not guaranteed Eze, 26, leaves Selhurst Park this summer, there is a very good chance it will happen.

And the prospect of playing for Spurs in the Champions League is one that appeals to the versatile winger.

Tottenham have been tracking Eze for years.

His stock has risen with every season since joining Palace from QPR five years ago, culminating with his FA Cup final-winning goal over Manchester City in May.

He also netted twice in Palace’s 2-0 win at Spurs seven days prior to that Wembley triumph.

Eze is believed to have a release clause of around £60million in his Eagles contract.

But insiders claim it comes with “complex” conditions involving how the fee is paid.

New Spurs boss Thomas Frank would love to sign a new winger this summer, especially if captain and Saudi Pro League target Son Heung-min leaves the club.

There is serious interest in Man Utd target Bryan Mbeumo, who scored 20 Premier League goals under Frank at Brentford last term, though the suggestion of a bid having been put in already has been played down.

Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo is also appreciated.

Whether Spurs, who turned Mathys Tel’s loan permanent for £30m earlier this month, would have the funds to buy both Mbeumo and Eze remains to be seen.

Ireland AM viewers left ‘shocked’ as couple open up on ‘menacing’ online harassment nightmare with tattle website

IRELAND AM viewers have all been left appalled after a couple opened up on the “menancing” abuse they suffered from a gossip website.

Antrim couple, Donna and Neil Sands, recently brought a defamation case against the gossip forum, Tattle Life.

Donna and Neil won their case against the gossip website

Donna and Neil were left delighted when they won their case and were respectively awarded €176,000 each in damages.

During the trial, the couple’s legal team were tasked with the job of tracking down the owner of the site, who had been hiding behind a fake name, Helen McDougal.

The owner of the website was named as Sebastian Bond, a British native, and failed to show up in court for any proceedings.

Speaking about their troll torture on Ireland AM, Donna and Neil recalled the first time they heard about the 45-page thread written about them on the site.

Donna explained: “I first heard about the website in 2021, my friend contacted me and said, ‘Donna I heard people laughing in the office about a thread on Tattle’.

“And Initially I thought, ‘This sounds very childish’, but I very quickly realised that it wasn’t a gossip website, this was harassment, slander and defamation.”

The 34-year-old highlighted how the website had been affecting known celebrities, business owners and people who had “no public facing whatsoever”.

Neil noted that the pair were “strong believers in free speech” and added: “If somebody has an opinion, I strongly urge folks to put their name behind it and their face beside it.”

However, he continued: “But in this case, people were writing every defamatory statement possible about our business and personal life and it just got more menacing over the years.”

The entrepreneur gave an example of the torment himself and his wife were receiving.

Neil recalled how a lady approaching them in a restaurant to gush over Donna’s fashion business.

The couple got chatting to the woman and her pals and even ended up buying them a drink.

However, just under an hour later, the couple’s entire conversation with the lady was posted on the Tattle Life website.

Neil conveyed how the abuse online only got “worse” as time went on, with their home address even being leaked to the public.

‘HORRIBLE’

The frustrated man revealed that people were driving “back and forth” to their house over a period of months and the license plate on his car was even uploaded to the site.

And Ireland AM viewers were all left in shock at the couple’s harrowing experience.

One viewer wrote on Instagram: “Wow. Absolutely shocking and terrifying in equal measures.”

Chloe said: “God bless you both, so horrible.”

Emily remarked: “Purely disgusting that website was allowed to run for that long.”

And Hannah commented: “This is shocking stuff.”
