Kylian Mbappe’s new physique worries fans as Real Madrid star returns to training after losing FIVE KILOS from virus

REAL MADRID superstar Kylian Mbappe reportedly lost up to five kilograms while suffering from illness over the last week.

The 26-year-old was hospitalised on the day of Real Madrid’s opening Club World Cup match against Al-Hilal and received treatment for acute gastroenteritis.

Upon returning to the team hotel after being discharged, he was forced to isolate from his team-mates to avoid speading the infection.

Mbappe returned to individual training on Monday and is now looking to reintegrate back into the squad.

However, the Frenchman has been hugely affected by his illness.

Spanish outlet Marca has revealed that he lost between four and five kilograms due to the virus.

Fans have now expressed concern for him, with one person writing on social media: “He really needs to rest.”

While another said: “So obvious, let’s just give him time to recover fully.”

It is believed that he could have contracted the virus back in Madrid before flying to the US earlier this month.

He began feeling unwell after the club’s second training session in Miami.

Mbappe is now hoping to return in time for Real Madrid‘s final group stage match against RB Salzburg on Thursday.

Los Blancos currently sit at the top of Group H with four points from two games.

They were held to a 1-1 draw by Al-Hilal in their opening match before defeating Mexican side Pachuca 3-1 on Sunday.

Mbappe was absent for both of the matches.

At the weekend, new Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso said of the forward: “I’m looking forward to having him back, but we have to see how he progresses day by day.

“We have to wait. Now we’re going back to Florida and we’ll see how he is. We’re waiting for him.”

Chelsea have ALREADY paid off Liam Delap transfer fee with Club World Cup earnings alone

LIAM DELAP is off the mark  – after putting Chelsea in the black.

Or at least in terms of the striker’s £30million arrival from Ipswich just three weeks ago.

Delap slotted the Blues’ second in a comfortable win over Tunis[/caption]

Delap angled his first goal for the Blues as a 3-0 win over ES Tunis booked a place in the Club World Cup knockout stages.

Reaching the last 16 means Chelsea have already earned £33.8m from the CWC.

That more than covers the 22-year-old’s transfer fee – by £3.8m, in fact.

Admittedly, that extra bit won’t stretch much beyond paying the first seven months of Delap’s sizable salary.

The former England Under-21 star signed on at Stamford Bridge until 2031 for around £100,000 a week – £5.2m every 12 months.

Chelsea didn’t even have to break sweat in the fierce heat of the USA to make the opening £25m from the CWC.

The summer buy admits he loves the ‘aggressive’ side of frontplay[/caption]

Because that sum was just for participating in the 64-team tournament.

The Blues then got nothing in more senses than one in their first Group D clash as Flamengo roared back to triumph 3-1.

But victories over Los Angeles and Tunis scooped £1.5m each.

That’s £3m – with a further £5.8 m added on for making the KO phase.

Cold hard cash – after bringing in a forward known for his bold, hard play, something akin to an old-fashioned targetman.

Delap revealed he’s relishes that bash-and-grab side of the game.

He said: “Yeah, I love those battles. I always have since I was a kid.

“I really love the aggressive side of it and the competitive nature of the squad.

“It’s got to be controlled at times but it’s my game ultimately and I enjoy it.”

And he’s also far from fazed at Chelsea handing him the No.9 shirt.

Big-name stars Fernando Torres, Radamel Falcao, Alvaro Morata, Gonzalo Higuain and Romelu Lukaku all struggled for the Blues in that TOP.

But Delap told talkSPORT: “I chose it. At the end of the day, it’s just a number on the back of your shirt.

“The number nine has always been related to strikers, so it’s something I like, but there is no pressure.

“It’s too early of course to judge if Delap will be a hit with that top.

But financially, his numbers are already more than adding up for Chelsea.

Taxpayers fork out surprising sum for ‘branding & naming process’ for €2bn Children’s Hospital as Minister defends cost

SOME €4,500 was spent coming up with the name for the new €2 billion children’s hospital which has been officially named . . . The National Children’s Hospital Ireland.

A specialist branding agency was drafted in to help name the new facility.

And Health Minister Jennifer Carroll McNeill today defending the name as she said it would make it easier for stressed out parents coming to Dublin.

A “branding and naming process” was set up to come up with recommendations for the name of the long delayed hospital which is set to cost the State more than €2 billion.

This process included the recruitment of a “specialist branding agency” with a shortlist of 17 names drawn up.

Three main principles guided this naming process, including engagement, mindfulness of history and lessons learned, and time and cost effectiveness.

A series of focus groups were set up through CHI with a Youth Advisory Council and a Family Advisory Network.

The Department of Health told the Irish Sun that the entire process cost €4,500.

Ultimately, the Minister for Health has decided to call the hospital the National Children’s Hospital Ireland – which was among the names on the recommended list.

The Minister today defended the name as she claimed it would make it easier for stressed parents to find in Dublin.

She said: “The name of the children’s hospital which I’m going to publish later today which is of course The National Children’s Hospital Ireland which I see have been described in different ways.

“The reason why we picked that name is very simple. We had a process of engagement with the youth advisory groups, with parents, with patients and that is the name they chose.

“I think it is a good name. Albeit, I think people are going to call it very simply the Children’s Hospital but what I’m really most concerned about is a stressed out parent coming into Heuston Station and getting in a taxi and maybe that parent doesn’t speak English as their first language, maybe they just need to get to the Children’s Hospital so I think just the simplest possible name.

“But I really thought it was important to reflect on the different conversation that has been had around Kathleen Lynn and what an extraordinary woman, what an extraordinary medic and extraordinary patriot Kathleen Lynn was.

“I was in the Royal Eye and Ear Hospital two weeks ago and we were opening the Kathleen Lynn cataract surgery and there was a brilliant presentation on her.

‘FANTASTIC WOMAN’

“She was a ferocious very brave very fantastic woman and I’d love to see her commemorated in different ways.

“So I’m going to speak to the youth advisory committee in the National Children’s Hospital Ireland to see what they think.

“I would like to name something in the hospital after her.

“Whether it’s a wing or maybe an education auditorium so that generations of students perhaps can see her name and reflect on her name and know who she is.

“So I would like to find a way to acknowledge and commemorate her extraordinary work but in respect of the overall name of the hospital I just had to go with A – what was chosen by the young people themselves and B what I thought would be just the simplest thing for a stressed out parent to come up with.”

Nihal launched a fashion and beauty company and amassed a huge following[/caption]

She had reportedly dropped to the fatal weight after losing almost 40kg in the last two years.

While undergoing treatment in hospital, doctors said her heart stopped working and they were unable to revive her.

News of her death was posted online by her sister who said she called the hospital last week to enquire about her sibling’s health.

She was told Nihal’s heart had stopped and CPR was being performed. Moments later, she was pronounced dead.

Hundreds of fans have since flocked online to pay tribute to the “beautiful” woman.

“I literally cried over this. she was so young and beautiful,” said one.

“You left this world too early … But the energy, smile and memories you left behind are still with us,” said another.

The Federation of Women’s Association of Turkey also released a statement following the star’s death condemning the “deadly pressure” society inflicts on women.

In a heartfelt post on X, the federation warned of the “life-threatening risks” of social media and TV presenting unrealistic beauty standards.

The post read: “Nihal Candan’s death due to anorexia nervosa once again reveals that the pressures and impositions placed on women’s bodies by society can reach deadly levels.

The foundation also criticised competitions and shows that “objectify” women and push them to take “life-threatening” risks.

“This issue also reflects a broader problem of inequality. It is something we must discuss and debate extensively,” the post said.

Nihal rose to fame in 2014 during her stints on Turkish reality TV shows Bu Tarz Benim and Survivor.

Amassing nearly 900,000 followers online she soon became a popular figure in the beauty and fashion world, later seeing her launch beauty company Nihal Candan Beauty Center.

Billionaire ‘got involved’ in failed Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall talks with Dana White as sum UFC icon snubbed revealed

SAUDI boxing bigwig Turki Alalshikh “got involved” in the UFC’s ill-fated bid to book a super-fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall, it’s been claimed.

The huge heavyweight title unification bout officially fell through last weekend when the former undisputed titleholder announced his retirement from mixed martial arts.

The UFC did everything in their power to make the mammoth melee, even agreeing to Jones’ demands to be paid “F**K YOU MONEY”.

Frustratingly for Dana White and the rest of the UFC brass, Jones performed a U-turn on the bout after agreeing to unify the belts.

And according to veteran MMA reporter Ariel Helwani, the UFC were reluctant to meet Jones’ demands for a historic payday until Saudi supremo Alalshikh entered the fray.

During the latest episode of The Ariel Helwani Show, he said: “Here’s what we can unequivocally say.

“I told you months ago, the UFC wanted to make this fight.

“They did everything in their power to make this fight. Jon Jones asked for $30 million.

“They didn’t want to give him $30 million (£22m). They negotiated. I heard from one source that even Turki [Alalshikh] got involved.

“He wanted to make the fight. They eventually got to the $30 million.

“Jon said he was in. A couple of days later, he said he was out. And once he said he was out, he was never back in.”

Alalshikh’s alleged involvement comes as no surprise given the working relationship he has with the UFC’s parent group, the TKO Group.

Jones’ retirement, which was announced minutes before it was revealed he was recently charged with leaving the scene of a non-deadly accident, has resulted in Wigan warrior Aspinall being elevated from interim to undisputed heavyweight champion.

And the Atherton assassin has vowed to get the division moving again after Jones held it hostage for the best part of two years.

He said: “I am going to keep this thing as active as possible.

“I want to be the best heavyweight to ever walk the face of the Earth.

“I’m gonna defend this thing as many times as I possibly can and I’m gonna keep you guys entertained.

“I’m going to give back to everybody who has shown me support over the last year, over the last five years and over the last ten years.

“We’re gonna see an active defending UFC heavyweight undisputed champion going forward.”

‘Nothing will bring our mum back’, says family of murder victim after double killer fails to have jail sentence reduced

THE family of murder victim Lesley Howell has said there is “no joy” after double killer Hazel Stewart failed in a bid to have her prison sentence reduced.

In a statement, the family said they are continuing to live with a life sentence as they deal with Stewart’s “ongoing attempt to evade justice”.

Stewart, 62, was refused leave at the Court of Appeal on Wednesday to appeal against the length of her sentence for killing her policeman husband and the wife of her former lover.

She is serving a minimum 18 years behind bars for the murders of Constable Trevor Buchanan, 32, and 31-year-old Lesley Howell in 1991.

Ms Howell’s daughter, Dr Lauren Bradford-Clarke, watched the court proceedings via videolink.

A statement from the family said: “We’re relieved that this stage of the legal process has concluded, but there is no joy. No celebration.

“The Court of Appeal’s decision today, upholding all previous rulings, confirms what we’ve known all along.

“We’ve always maintained our confidence in the original judgment and the overwhelming weight of expert opinion supporting our case.”

The statement added: “While this decision offers some reassurance, we recognise that there’s no true end or closure.

“This is a life sentence, and we must continue to live with the pain caused by Hazel’s ongoing attempt to evade justice.

“Nothing will bring our mum back. We have no appeals. No paroles. No release date.

“The cycle of appeal after appeal shows Hazel’s complete lack of remorse and her refusal to take responsibility for her actions.

‘STRESS AND UPSET’

“My beautiful mum’s memory will not be shadowed by this, and we will continue to love and honour the person she was.”

Lady Chief Justice Siobhan Keegan told the court that Stewart’s latest attempted appeal would have caused “stress and upset” to the families of those she killed.

Stewart’s lawyer described the ruling as disappointing, but said it “doesn’t end the quest to highlight that she was a victim of coercive control”.

Both victims were found in a fume-filled garage in Castlerock, Co Derry, in May 1991.

DRUGGED AND MURDERED

Police originally believed they had died in a suicide pact, after discovering that their partners were having an extra-marital affair.

Instead, they had been drugged and murdered and their bodies arranged to make it look as though they had taken their own lives.

Nearly two decades passed before dentist Howell, 65, confessed to both killings.

He implicated Stewart and she was ordered to serve at least 18 years at her trial in 2011.

LAUNCHED APPEAL

Stewart launched her appeal against the length of her sentence on the basis of fresh psychiatric evidence that suggested she was suffering from depression and post-traumatic stress disorder at the time of the murders and had been coercively controlled by Howell.

Stewart, wearing a pale blue T-shirt and a cross necklace, watched the court of appeal ruling via a videolink from Hydebank Prison.

Judge Keegan said the fresh psychiatric evidence had been presented “well after the event” and “places reliance on prison records to contradict the case made by all other experts”.

She said: “Even if there were any traction in the points now made, which we do not find, the trial judge also made allowance for Howell’s control in the sentence he passed.

‘CRUELLEST OF CIRCUMSTANCES’

“No injustice arises in refusing to reopen this long-concluded appeal on these facts.”

The Chief Justice added: “We record this was a double murder of spouses in the cruellest of circumstances.

“Our overall view is that the sentence was neither wrong nor manifestly excessive.

“We refuse leave to admit the new evidence or to extend time as we are not convinced the new evidence establishes a valid ground of appeal.

‘NEED FOR FINALITY’

“We are similarly not convinced that a fulsome enough explanation why this evidence was not produced earlier has been provided.

“In reaching our conclusion we reiterate the need for finality in criminal proceedings, we must deduce from this appeal that the applicant does not fully appreciate that.

“What must be self-evident is the stress and upset this latest appeal attempt will have caused to the families of the deceased.”

She added that the original trial judge had been cited on the issue of Howell’s control of Stewart and he altered her sentence accordingly.
