Melioidosis Outbreak in Thailand: 72 Fatalities and 1,676 Infections Amid July 2025 Rains

Amidst the sweltering, humid days of July, as torrential rains sweep across certain corners of Thailand, a silent foe lurks beneath the murky waters and soggy grounds. A specter haunting the nation, its name is melioidosis — a baffling disease that has struck fear in the hearts of many, claiming 72 lives and leaving 1,676 others battling infections. The Ministry of Public Health sends out an ominous warning — steer clear of the unseen danger lurking in contaminated soil and water, or even in the dust we carelessly inhale. Imagine the invisible enemy knocking at the cracks in your skin, tainting your sip of once-trusted water, or invading you with a breath—a nefarious game of chance nobody wants to play. The echoes of these dangers were amplified just yesterday by Dr. Panumas Yanawet Sakul, the vigilant Director General of the Department of Disease Control (DDC). He painted a picture not…

Phisit’s High-Speed Drama: Thai Politician’s Son Sparks Wild Car Chase in Nonthaburi

In what could easily be mistaken for the plot of an action-packed blockbuster, the son of a prominent Thai politician has transformed his life into a gripping real-life episode of high-octane drama. On the morning of July 9th, the usually tranquil province of Nonthaburi found itself caught up in chaos reminiscent of a Hollywood thriller. The protagonist of this adrenaline-pumping tale, Phisit, decided it was time to add some suspense to the otherwise routine affairs of the Crime Suppression Division. As officers closed in on their target, an alleged online gambling den in Sai Noi, Phisit dramatically crashed his pristine white MG sedan into a police car. It was the ignition point of what would turn into a wild spectacle of a car chase, which advanced into a hail of gunfire that could have made even hardboiled detectives flinch. Lieutenant Colonel Supachai Srisak, who found himself in the starring role…

Phuket Alcohol Ban: The Legal Drama and Community Resilience on Asarnha Bucha

Picture this: the pristine beaches of Phuket, usually abuzz with laughter and clinking cocktail glasses, suddenly gripped by a silence only broken by the sound of disbelief. This isn’t a plot from a mystery novel but the reality for this popular Thai island during the solemn Asarnha Bucha and Khao Pansa holidays—a time reserved for reflection and spiritual enrichment but now also the stage for a controversy involving the local constabulary and the boozy cheer of the town’s thriving nightlife. On the evening of July 10 and stretching into the mystical hours of July 11, police officers in snug-fitting uniforms cast a cautious eye over the island, ensuring that the prohibition juggernaut rolled through without a hitch. Under the watchful leadership of Chalong Police Chief, Colonel Rungrit Rattanaphakdi, an army of officials meticulously inspected bars and restaurants, enforcing a strict alcohol ban that left both tourists and locals pondering whether…

Flood Alert: Landslide Warnings in 11 Thai Provinces Amid Torrential Rain

Buckle up, folks in northern and eastern Thailand! Mother Nature seems to have put her sprinklers on overdrive, and we’re not talking about a garden refresh. With days of persistent rainstorms soaking the land like a relentless sprinkler system malfunction, villagers are now on high alert for landslides and flash floods. It’s news you hoped wouldn’t come, but alas, the Department of Mineral Resources sounded the alarm today, July 11, marking 11 provinces as potential hot spots for geological drama over the next 48 to 72 hours. In the past 24 hours alone, rainfall has been dancing well over the 100-millimeter mark in several areas. This torrential downpour has transformed the topsoil into something akin to a soaked sponge – not exactly the most stable of terrains. As the soil’s hold loosens, officials caution that even minor earth quakes or tiny pavement cracks might be whispering warnings of landslides looming…

Bangkok Traffic Drama Unfolds: Yaowarat Road Rage Incident Caught on Camera

In a frenzied twist of fate on the bustling streets of Bangkok, a dramatic scene unfolded on Yaowarat Road that had the entire city buzzing and social media on fire. A video spotlighting a shocking vehicular collision made rounds online, igniting discussions and heated debates among netizens. It all began with a 10-wheel leviathan of a truck cruising down the middle lane. Without warning, it veered sharply towards a tuk-tuk, that charming yet vulnerable staple of Thai transport, which carried three unsuspecting passengers. The heart-stopping moment that followed could rival any action movie. As the truck collided with the humble three-wheeler, one brave soul among the passengers disembarked, only to be caught in a perilous dance between the truck and the tuk-tuk. Miraculously, the man emerged with nothing more than minor scrapes, reminiscent of a Hollywood protagonist brushing off dust after a daring stunt, and nonchalantly walked away as if…

Udon Thani Cat Rescue: A Daring Adventure Unites Community in July 2025

In the charming and often unpredictable world of Udon Thani, not every day unfolds like a routine tale. Just yesterday, the tranquil afternoon air was pierced by an unforgettable scene that none in the neighborhood will soon forget. It was 12:45 PM on July 10th when an unusual rescue operation kicked into high gear, all thanks to one particularly feisty feline who found itself in a rather precarious predicament. The invitation to action came to the diligent Thammasat Foundation rescue volunteers, who were called to a residential area’s frontlines on Mit Bumrung Road, in the serene Ban Lueam subdistrict. Now, this wasn’t your run-of-the-mill cry for help. What lay ahead was a scene that could rival a Hollywood blockbuster’s climax. There, atop a lofty fence standing a stout three meters high, hung a cat in distress. This wasn’t any ordinary tom—oh no, this white and black moggy, guesstimated at around…

Putin’s biggest mouthpiece threatens US with ‘radioactive TSUNAMI’ using nuke torpedoes as Trump sends arms to Ukraine

PUTIN’S chief propagandist has warned Russia could wipe out both coasts of the US with its Poseidon torpedoes.

Vladimir Solovyov said on state TV that launching the nuclear-powered drones – designed to unleash a “radioactive tsunami” – would mean “the end” for America.

Speaking on the state-run Russia-1 channel about a hypothetical response to “Western aggression”, Solovyov warned: “Will Trump understand that two Poseidons, launched from different sides, could wipe out the US and create a radioactive disaster?

“That would be the end – nothing will save them.”

Referring to US missile defense systems, he said: “No protective element will help them”.

Solovyov suggested Washington underestimates Russia’s capabilities, adding it would face dire consequences if it escalates tensions.

The Poseidon, also known as Status-6, is a Russian nuclear-powered, nuclear-armed underwater drone designed to attack coastal infrastructure.

The Poseidon is said to be capable of diving miles beneath the ocean surface and traveling unmanned at speeds of up to 62mph.

Pentagon analysts – who refer to the weapon as “Kanyon” – believe it’s designed to carry a thermonuclear warhead packing “tens of megatons” of explosive power.

The torpedo is therefore considered capable of creating a “radioactive tsunami” – an underwater nuclear blast powerful enough to flood and contaminate large swaths of coastline.

Pro-Putin state TV presenter Dmitry Kiselyov said in 2022 that detonating such a torpedo near the British coast could trigger a 1640-ft tsunami that would flood the coastline with radioactive seawater.

Some experts warn that the Poseidon could unleash a tsunami as devastating as the one that killed 20,000 people in Japan and crippled the Fukushima nuclear plant in 2011.

But others remain sceptical about the torpedo’s ability to trigger a tsunami.

This isn’t the first time Solovyov has made threats about Russia using nuclear weapons against the West.

Solovyov is known for his staunch support of Putin’s policies, including Russia’s war in Ukraine, which he openly promotes on his prime-time show Evening with Vladimir Solovyov.

On the eve of Russia‘s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, he was sanctioned by the EU and banned from entering its member states.

Solovyov at the time said: “Today is the day that a righteous operation was launched for the de-Nazification in Ukraine.”

After proposals by some EU countries to ban tourist visas for Russians, he suggested missile strikes on Berlin, Paris, London and Brussels in August 2022.

Solovyov’s comments come as Russia launched its largest air assault on Ukraine, with 728 drones and hypersonic missiles.

Key targets of the bombardment were Lutsk and Ternopil in the West of Ukraine, which triggered an emergency response from Nato forces in neighbouring Poland.

Both Polish and other Western air force warplanes were scrambled as a defensive measure during the Putin strikes.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump slammed Putin for talking “bull****” about the Ukraine war and making “meaningless” promises.

Trump reiterated that he was “very unhappy” with Putin, claiming their phone call last week made no progress on the Ukraine peace deal.

Man Utd stars who have gone on to shine away from Old Trafford as Alvaro Carreras seals dream Real Madrid move

ALVARO CARRERAS has put his Manchester United nightmare behind him with a stunning £43million move to Real Madrid.

The Spanish left-back, 22, is on the brink of rejoining his former club after failing to make a single appearance at Old Trafford.

Carreras joined United from Real in 2020 and was widely tipped to become a top defender.

But the Red Devils failed to see his potential, instead shipping the ace on loan to Preston, Granada and Benfica.

The latter quickly made Carreras’ move permanent for just £5m last summer.

And his imminent move to Real a year later shows that there is life after the Theatre of Dreams.

However, Carreras is not the first to make his mark following an exit from United.

Here, SunSport looks at several stars who have enjoyed great success away from the north west…

SCOTT McTOMINAY

Where else to start but with the Great Scot, whose 22 years at United ended with a shock move to Napoli last summer.

Fans in England thought they would never hear of McTominay again as he linked up with Antonio Conte in Italy.

The midfielder’s time at United saw him score juts 29 goals in 255 games, with few standout performances.

However, McTominay quickly settled into life at Napoli, endearing himself to fans with his incredible work rate and attacking drive.

He ended up scoring 13 goals in his debut season, nearly half his grand total at United.

But more importantly, McTominay inspired Napoli to their fourth Serie A title win.

He was subsequently named the league’s Most Valuable Player, and Neapolitans now speak of him in the same breath as Argentina legend Diego Maradona.

ANTHONY ELANGA

Sold for just £15m to Nottingham Forest two years ago, Elanga has quickly developed into one of the league’s top wingers.

His speed and eye for goal saw Forest qualify for Europe for the first time in 30 years.

And Elanga is now on the brink of a massive £60m transfer to Champions League side Newcastle.

It’s proved to be some turnaround from his United days. where Elanga scored four goals in 55 games.

Back then, he was seen as little more than a back-up option out wide.

Fans certainly warmed to him, his managers less so.

Yet Elanga has shown that through hard work and perseverance, big things are possibly for any United player who finds themselves on the fringes.

DEAN HENDERSON

Once tipped as a future United No1, Henderson’s fall from grace at Old Trafford was a quick one.

Numerous loans resulted in Henderson briefly displacing David De Gea in the 2020/21 season, playing 26 times that term.

But after a bout of Covid wrecked his hopes of staying between the sticks, he made just three further appearances before another loan move.

Crystal Palace then snapped up Henderson in 2023, and again he was forced to battle to become No1, this time against Sam Johnstone.

But Henderson finally cemented his spot under Oliver Glasner and featured 44 times for the Eagles last term.

His form saw him earn a recall to the England set-up, with Henderson starting twice in the past 9 months.

However, his greatest triumph came in May as Henderson inspired Palace to FA Cup glory over Man City.

The ace saved a penalty and made several more important stops on a historic day for his club, with Henderson later dedicating the win to his late father.

ANGEL DI MARIA

Not one to shy away from speaking out, Di Maria made no secret of his disdain for his sole year at United.

The Argentine ace jumped ship after a dismal spell under Louis van Gaal, having arrived at Old Trafford from Real Madrid on the back of a Champions League win in 2014.

Di Maria’s failure to settle in Manchester was a shock to many, especially considering his £60m transfer fee.

However, the midfielder quickly went on to prove that his shoddy spell in England did not spell the end of his career.

Di Maria ended up moving to France with PSG and played 295 times as he clinched five Ligue 1 titles.

The icon also starred for a season at Juventus before returning to old side Benfica and leading them to several cups.

He is now back in his homeland with boyhood club Rosario Central and returns a legend, having been part of the Argentina side that won the 2022 World Cup.

FRED

Another maligned midfielder at United, Fred’s value was realised by fans soon after his departure.

The unglamorous Brazilian was appreciated but not adored at Old Trafford.

But he was a constant presence in the squad and ended up playing 213 times in five years.

Fred then moved to Turkey with Fenerbahce in 2023 and has since become a mainstay of Jose Mourinho’s side.

Though he is yet to win a trophy in Istanbul, Fred has helped Fenerbahce close the gap to mega-money Galatasaray.

While back at United, supporters have woken up to how integral Fred quietly was.

Boss Ruben Amorim continues to struggle with his midfield partnership.

And versatile Fred, who could do just about anything that was asked of him, would surely be a better option in there than United’s current crop of flops.

ANTONY

Though technically still a United player, Antony’s time at Old Trafford was effectively ended when he joined Real Betis on loan in January.

Amorim’s desire to not use wingers in a 3-4-2-1 shape meant Antony, who had struggled when getting regular chances under Erik ten Hag, was facing a make-or-break career moment.

But after suffering from a severe lack of confidence in England, he immediately found his stride in Spain.

Antony struck five goals and two assists in LaLiga for Betis, helping them secure a Europa League finish.

He also played a key role on their run to the Conference League final, where Manuel Pellegrini’s side were beaten by Chelsea.

And Antony is now pushing for a permanent move to Betis, which could cost just £17m — making for a massive hit on his £86m United transfer.
