Horror CCTV footage captures Paul Connor, a tree surgeon and dad-of-two, wrestling with Christopher Hewer inside the venue.

Two women, and a male staff member, attempt to separate the pair, to no avail.

One of the women, Hewer’s partner Antonia Holliday, wearing a long floral skirt and black top, gets involved in the scrap.

She can be seen violently punching Connor, before a third female, rushes in and slams the her into a wall.

The woman, wearing a white jumper, is then violently dragged back by the hair, by Hewer.

At this point there are five pub-goers tangled together and scrambling on the floor.

Hewer can even be spotted stamping on one woman’s head and face before Connor jumps in and drags him off.

Still swinging, thug Hewer is punched by Connor again and the pair are restrained by two staff members.

Carlisle Crown Court heard Connor spat the appliance engineer’s ear off before a woman nearby picked it up and wrapped it in a napkin.

The chaotic fight was sparked at just before midnight after a “drunken” Hewer was talking loudly to customers’ faces, the court heard.

He struck up a conversation with Connor, who was unknown to him.

An irritated Connor tried to ditch Hewer, who then walked away, but then came back and tried to punch him.

Prosecutor Tim Evans said: “It to the credit of a number of people, none more so than the staff member, that they try to stop the violence.”

Connor, aged 33, of Fenton Close, Speke, Liverpool, admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and also affray.

Hewer, aged 44, of West View Road; and Holliday, 36, of Hinnings Road, both Distington, admitted affray.

Connor’s barrister Kim Whittlestone told the court her client’s behaviour was out of character and “something snapped”.

Mitigating for Hewer, Marion Weir said: “Even after two years he is feeling the effects.”

Judge Michael Fanning sentenced Connor to four-and-a-half years in jail.

Sentencing Connor Judge Fanning said: “But I have to deal with you for what you have done – you have used a weapon to inflict this injury.

“Use of the teeth is a weapon.”

Hewer received an immediate 18-month prison sentence.

Sentencing Hewer Judge Fanning said: “You started this.

“You provoked Mr Connor to the position he found himself in – you came out of this very much the loser with a very serious injury.”

Holliday’s 15-month custodial term was suspended for a year, as the judge noted she was the sole carer of two children.

She must complete 200 hours’ unpaid work and also received an alcohol ban.

Veteran Wimbledon presenter, 63, axed from TV coverage following controversial Novak Djokovic remarks

VETERAN sports presenter Tony Jones will not cover Wimbledon for Channel Nine in the wake of his fallout with tennis megastar Novak Djokovic.

Jones, a longtime Wimbledon presenter for the Australian network, has been left out of the lineup prior to the Grand Slam.

The veteran presenter had a fallout with Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open[/caption]

It comes five months after his feud with Djokovic at the Australian Open.

The 63-year-old sparked controversy at Melbourne Park with comments about Djokovic before the 24-time Grand Slam winner’s fourth-round match against Jiri Lehecka.

Standing in front of a vocal group of singing Serbian fans, Jones said: “Welcome back to Melbourne Park, where you can see the Novak Djokovic fans, they’re in full voice. The chants are quite extraordinary.”

He then went on to sing: “Novak, he’s overrated. Novak’s a has-been. Novak, kick him out.

Boy, I’m glad they can’t hear me. Anyway, let’s get on to the tennis.

His comments upset Djokovic, who later boycotted a post-match interview with Channel Nine.

The tennis megastar went on to say in his press conference: “A couple of days ago the famous sports journalist who works for official broadcaster, Channel 9 here in Australia, made a mockery of Serbian fans and also made insulting and offensive comments towards me.

“And since then, he chose not to issue any public apology. Neither did Channel 9. So since they’re official broadcasters, I chose not to give interviews for Channel 9.”

He concluded: “I leave it to Channel 9 to handle this the way they think they see fit. That’s all.”

Following the announcement from Djokovic, Jones swiftly offered an apology.

He said: “I contacted the Djokovic camp and issued an apology to them, this was 48 hours ago, for any disrespect that Novak felt that I caused.

“I stand by that apology to Novak, if he felt any disrespect, that quite clearly he does. To the Serbian fans, we have built up a nice rapport over the year. They bring flags, so much colour, passion and there was banter.

“What I thought I was doing was an extension of that banter. Quite clearly it has not been interpreted that way. I feel that I have let down the Serbian fans and I am not saying this to try and wriggle out of trouble. I genuinely feel for those fans.

“If I could turn back time, and I know we have all got PhD’s in hindsight, where I over-stepped the mark, certainly what has angered Novak’s camp, is the last comment ‘kick him out’.

“That has angered Novak, that I completely understand. It has been a personal angst for Novak and for me as well. The priority is now to focus on the tennis.

“I can only again tell Novak what I told him 48 hours ago, which is I do apologise if he felt that I disrespected him.”

With Jones absent from coverage of Wimbledon – which starts next Monday – Channel Nine will be fronted by Todd Woodbridge, Alicia Molik, Sam McClure and Jelena Dokic.

The draws for Wimbledon are scheduled to take place on Friday morning.

Louise Thompson dropped huge clue that her brother Sam had split with Samie Elishi before break-up was announced

LOUISE Thompson dropped a huge clue that her brother Sam had split with Samie Elishi before their break-up was even announced.

The Sun exclusively revealed today the pair had decided to go their separate ways, weeks after first being spotted together on a cosy date.

The Sun exclusively revealed today the pair had decided to go their separate ways[/caption]

But, during a very recent appearance on Sam’s podcast with Pete Wicks, Staying Relevant, she appeared to let slip that the lovebirds were no longer an item.

At one point in Wednesday’s installment, Louise was asked to describe Sam’s ideal girlfriend.

The former Made In Chelsea star replied: “I’d love for you to try dating someone that has a normal job, that’s outside of the media space. I think that could be exciting.

“You definitely need somebody that slightly puts you in your place, so who’s gonna talk back to you, and not let you get away with everything.”

Louise added: “If you’re going to go down the fame route, can you just find someone that I would get along with. I’m thinking young British actress.”

She suggested a good match for Sam would be Harry Potter star Emma Watson.

The Sun confirmed earlier today Sam and Samie had split after dating for just two months.

A source said: “It was a mutual thing and there is no bad blood between them.

“They both just have really busy schedules, particularly Sam who has been non-stop recently, and it was really hard to make it work. They’re still good mates.

“It’s a shame but sometimes things just don’t work out.”

Sam and Samie confirmed they were dating in early May when they were spotted sharing a steamy kiss on a night out.

Sam was pictured snogging Samie and holding her face as they smooched outside Olivia Attwood’s 34th birthday bash.

They were also snapped walking arm in arm afterwards and he tenderly placed a hand on her waist.

While the pair didn’t share their relationship on social media, Sam did praise Samie on his podcast, Staying Relevant with pal Pete Wicks.

Grilled by his best mate, he was relatively tight-lipped but said: “What I will say though, really awesome chick. You met her that night. Really, really lovely. Super down to earth, super nice, beautiful, obviously.”

Samie, meanwhile, opened up about the romance last month during an appearance on the We Talk To The Dead podcast.

Chatting to host Chloe Smith, the interviewer asked Samie: “Obviously, you don’t have to talk about it too much but the guy you’re currently speaking to, do you have that gut feeling? Like do you think it’s gonna be really good?”

She responded: “There’s been no bad stuff at the minute. So yeah, I suppose it is all positive right now. It’s early days.”

Sam was cagey, however, when quizzed about Samie while promoting his Soccer Aid challenge for Unicef earlier this month.

Asked if she would be there to support him, Sam told MailOnline : “I feel like… this is so much more than who I’m dating or hooking up with.

“And I feel like it would take away from what it is going on. You know what I mean?

“You know, If I had a wife or something like, like a girlfriend of years it might be a different.

“I just think that I don’t want to do anything that will take away from this challenge and Unicef – the spotlight needs to be on them.”

Samie also failed to acknowledge the challenge on social media.

Sam and Samie started dating several months after his split from Zara McDermott.

The pair called it quits in January after five years together.

A source close to the couple told MailOnline: “Sam and Zara have ended their relationship. It’s been an incredibly difficult decision for them to part ways, they still care and have a lot of love for each other.

“But after a tough year of working hard at their romance, they have split and will be focusing on their individual careers going forward into 2025.

“There has been no scandal or fallout between them, it’s just the result of a difficult year, where they both had to spend a lot of time focused on their own projects.”

Zara has since moved on with One Direction star Louis Tomlinson, who Sam awkwardly came face to face with at Soccer Aid earlier this month as they both played on the same team.

‘Titan of Irish sport’ – John Giles to retire from punditry after golden career across 30 years with RTE & Newstalk

JOHN Giles is retiring from football punditry at the age of 84 after a 23-year run with Newstalk’s Off the Ball radio programme.

“Thursday night football with John Giles” has been a staple of the evening sports show since the station’s inception in 2002.

This evening it was announced that the Leeds United great has chosen to blow the final whistle on his long and distinguished media career.

His final appearance was preceded by a touching and poignant tribute featuring the best bits of his broadcasting career, both in RTE and Off The Ball.

He goes down as one of the most influential man in the history of Irish football with a career spanning almost 70 years – both on and off the pitch.

And speaking on OTB for the final time, Giles said: “I was really lucky. I fell into the television. Eamon [Dunphy] helped me a lot in that.

“When you’re doing the job I was trying to do, you have to watch all the matches. You can’t make it up as you go along.

“I think it got to the stage where I was getting a bit stale trying to watch as many matches as I could and it became hard work.

“Football has never been hard work to me, I have always loved it but there are so matches.

“Even in the summer now, you see the teams over in America [for the Club World Cup].

“I have had a good run of it. I am 84, nearly 85.

“I have enjoyed it. I loved playing. I fell into to the television, I had no intention of doing that when I was actually playing the football.

“No complaints whatsoever.”

Off the Ball are going to hold a night of celebration in his honour in Dublin’s Sugar Club on Thursday August 14.

To quote the man himself, he’ll be joined onstage by the great and the good of his many friends and colleagues down through the years where they’ll reminisce on all he’s witnessed across his media career.

Those who’d like to attend should keep an eye on Off the Ball’s social media channels as ticket information will be released in due course.

Ger Gilroy, Managing Director of Off The Ball, hailed: “John Giles, Senior Analyst, is a titan of Irish sport.

“His weekly explanation of football truth on Off The Ball helped deepen what the country knows about football.

“His ability to see through bulls*** and his love of the game
shone through in every contribution.

“Off The Ball has been blessed to call John a mentor, colleague and friend for over 20 years, he set the bar for what’s expected every Thursday night and we can only hope to live up to his legacy.

“We have truly been standing on the shoulders of a giant.”

RTE DEPARTURE

The Dubliner departed RTE after Euro 2016 when his contract with the national broadcaster was allowed to run out.

Unlike his exit from Newstalk, it was a somewhat acrimonious parting as Giles told the Irish Sun in 2017.

The former Ireland player-manager stated at the time that he would be open to a return to the RTE panel – if an offer ever came his way.

He said: “I don’t think that’s possible, an offer coming in. If it did, I would consider it, but I wouldn’t be dashing in, strange as that may seem, I don’t miss it.

“I wasn’t disappointed with how it ended with RTE, I had 30 good years at RTE.

“It took them that long to find me out! That was their business to do it, I would have continued but I wasn’t broken-hearted about it, I had a great run.”

Over the course of his stint with RTE he was a quarter of an iconic panel when you lump in host Bill O’Herlihy with “The Three Amigos” of Giles, Eamon Dunphy and Liam Brady.

Giles was an ever-present feature from Ireland’s major tournament breakthrough at Euro 1988 right up until Euro 2016.

That remains the last major international tournament that the Republic of Ireland men’s team have played in.

Former Man Utd star, 35, becomes unemployed after being knocked out of the Club World Cup without playing a minute

FORMER Manchester United star Marcos Rojo is a free agent after his Boca Juniors contract was terminated.

The defender now finds himself with a club just days after the Argentines were dumped out of the Club World Cup.

The defender won several trophies during his time at Man United[/caption]

Rojo, 35, didn’t play a single minute in the US as Boca failed to win a single group game.

After a 2-2 draw in their opener against Benfica, the Buenos Aires side lost 2-1 to Bayern before being held to an embarrassing 1-1 draw against semi-pro Auckland City.

Heads are sure to be rolling at Boca, winners of 35 league titles and six Copa Libertadores.

And one man who has paid an immediate price for their failure is Rojo.

The centre-back joined them from United in 2021 and went on to play 133 times.

But Rojo immediately fell out of Miguel Russo’s plans when the gaffer took charge in May.

And despite still having six months remaining on his contract, ESPN claim Rojo has now been let go.

Indeed, it’s reckoned the defender will not even return to Argentina with his side, who are midway through their season and sit joint-top of the table.

Rojo could now be eyeing a return to Europe, having also played for Spartak Moscow and Sporting Lisbon.

United paid the Portuguese side £16m to sign Rojo in 2014.

And the defender became a hit as won the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Europa League in his first three seasons.

However, a cruciate ligament injury in 2017 marked the beginning of the end of Rojo’s Old Trafford career.

Having played 95 times in the first three years, the following three saw Rojo feature in just 27 games.

But he turned things around at Boca as he led them to title glory in 2022, playing 44 times that year before suffering another decline in form and fitness.

Haunting moment cops raid mass live BURIAL rescuing cult followers who’d been wrapped like mummies & entombed in graves

THIS is the haunting moment cops raided a mass live burial to rescue cult followers wrapped like mummies and entombed in graves.

Police in Russia raided a bizarre shamanic ritual in which two young women were “buried alive”.

The pair with heads wrapped like mummies had to be dug out of the graves in a forest in Leningrad region.

Both were alive after their ordeals.

One had difficulty standing up when she was dug out.

Thirteen more worshippers were gathered around a fire, some waiting to be buried after digging their own graves.

The self-styled shaman named Timur and his female assistant Yekaterina Koroleva were both detained on suspicion of running a sinister cult.

First, the shaman was ordered to dig out the two women from their 20-inch deep graves.

Koroleva – organiser of the ritual –  denied that the participants had paid almost £80 to die in the graves, and claimed their heads were not completely buried, allowing them to breathe.

“The essence of the ritual is essentially a kind of reset,” she said.

“It’s a psychological trance ceremony where a person undergoes a complete reboot, a full cleansing.

“If someone has gone through certain life events, or wants to be completely reborn, to fully change their life — they opt for this extreme form of burial.”

Reports said participants were wrapped in rags and buried alive as part of a supposed rebirth or symbolic encounter with Hel, the Norse goddess of death.

Law enforcement were deciding how to proceed against the detained pair.

They could face up to seven years in jail, reported Novye Izvestia news outlet.

A shaman is a person believed to have access to, and influence in, the world of spirits, typically through rituals, visions, and healing practices.

This comes as a Russian rape cult leader who called himself an alien named Great Shaman was arrested in Argentina.

Konstantin Rudnev, 57, was handcuffed and dragged away by cops at Bariloche Airport as he attempted to flee to Brazil with six women.

Video shows the twisted guru — who once claimed to be a god from the star Sirius — being busted in a dramatic operation that saw 14 suspects snared at two airports over 1,000 miles apart in a joint swoop by Argentine authorities.

Rudnev — already convicted of rape and running a violent sex cult in Russia — reportedly tried to slit his throat with a razor as officers closed in, according to El Pais.

He was reportedly treated for his injuries and was pictured with a bandage around his neck.

He now faces fresh charges of human trafficking, sexual exploitation and drug offences, more than a decade after he was jailed for 11 years in Siberia for a string of abuse crimes involving female followers.

The bizarre cult, Ashram Shambala, founded in 1989 in Novosibirsk, brainwashed followers — mostly women — into surrendering their property.

They would reportedly cut ties with loved ones and take part in so-called “ritual orgies” in exchange for “salvation.”

Women were allegedly coerced into sex with Rudnev — while male followers were ordered to remain celibate.

The cult even flogged recordings of the encounters to fund operations and promised spiritual enlightenment via “women’s practices” and Eastern esotericism.
