Shocking moment £50k EV EXPLODES sending flames billowing into sky destroying 2 cars parked nearby

THIS is the dramatic moment a £50,000 electric vehicle explodes into a huge fireball – destroying both cars next to it.

The shocking footage shows the Mercedes EQA going up in flames in a matter of seconds while parked up in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

It can be seen smoking for a few seconds before it spontaneously explodes in the quiet residential street.

The explosion – which set a nearby shed ablaze and damaged part of the road – is believed to have been caused by a faulty battery.

The blaze also destroyed two other nearby cars.

James Musonda, who owns the courtesy car, was woken up by the loud bang, mistakenly thinking a tree had fallen on his house.

The 33-year-old pensioner consultant told MailOnline that he was “hysterical” when he eventually realised it was his car and has vowed to steer clear of EVs.

He said: “When I realised it was my car I was screaming and hysterical.

“All I could see was flames when I opened the door. We couldn’t get out the house because of the flames.

“My daughter was in the house. I could have died if I was in that car.”

Mr Musonda continued to explain that the fire brigade managed to get them out, but it kept making little explosions.

They were left very shaken up, and left keen to keep their distance from electric cars.

Fire crews attended the scene until noon the following day,

The Mercedes was recalled to the factory for “safety work” by the German manufacturer in October 2024.

The father-of-one explained that Mercedes had the car until mid-January this year.

The incident occurred six weeks after he got his car back.

Mercedes told MailOnline that it was sorry to learn of the incident that took place in March.

A spokesperson explained that the customer services team have been in contact with Mr Musonda and have kept him mobile in a courtesy car.

In October last year, a similar incident occurred in Northamptonshire, when CCTV captured the terrifying moment an electric Mercedes went up in flames.

The owner of the vehicle, Scott Bayliss said: “The pace and ferocity at which the fire took hold and engulfed the entire car and pretty much the entire front of our house was scary beyond belief.

He also explained that the initial investigator concluded that the vehicle was in such a bad state that it was difficult to establish what the fault was.

A Mercedes spokesperson said the company could not comment while the investigation was ongoing, but did stress that the company had reached out to the family.

A 70,000 Alfa Romeo was also caught bursting into flames in a Birmingham shopping centre carpark last December.

The terrifying moment saw emergency crews rush to the fourth floor of Selfridges Moor Street to put out the blaze, which managed to destroy one other car.

In an update, a fire service spokesman reported: “Faulty engine from a petrol powered car caused this fire.

An incident recently occurred in Bournemouth too, which saw a 27-year-old woman narrowly escape the flames.

The vehicle suddenly erupted into flames while the driver was dropping off her fiance.

The driver who was inside the car told the news site “it just started smoking and I got out of the car, then it caught fire”.

Neighbour ‘took £1.5k to hire hitman to kill pal’s wife… before he ditched job and spent cash on Benidorm hols’

Photos of a neighbour and husband.

A NEIGHBOUR scammed a husband by taking £1,500 to pay for a hitman to kill his wife which he splashed on jetting off to Benidorm, a court heard.

Paul Lewis, 54, is accused of paying the money to his neighbour to arrange the killing of his estranged wife after the pair split two years earlier.

Saunders, 35, allegedly claimed the hit had been carried out[/caption]

Dominique Saunders, 35, allegedly told Lewis that the job was done and said there were photos and GoPro footage of the killing to prove it.

But Lewis, a former steelworker from Swansea, was stunned to find his ex, Joanne Atkinson-Lewis, “still breathing” at a nearby beach.

Saunders, known locally as “Dippy Dom”, was allegedly stringing Lewis along before splashing the cash on a Benidorm holiday.

Lewis’ barrister, John Hipkin KC, told the court the grandfather was “vulnerable” due to his poor mental health and had been scammed by his neighbour.

Mr Hipkin said Saunders had “simply pushed off to Benidorm with the money”.

Saunders’ own barrister John Harrison KC said Saunders never had any intention for Joanne to be harmed.

All he did was “make some internet searches and go on holiday to Benidorm”, he said.

Prosecutor William Hughes KC said cops launched an investigation after Lewis confessed he had “put a hit” on his ex to his son, Kieran.

Mr Hughes said: “During a conversation Mr Lewis accepted that he entered into an agreement with Mr Saunders to arrange for his ex-wife to be killed.

“Kieran Lewis asked his father: ‘Have you put a hit out on Joanne?’

“Mr Lewis apparently broke down crying and nodded at his son acknowledging that he had made such an agreement.”

Lewis’ son Kieran called the police on his dad who uncovered the alleged hitman plot in messages between the two men, who lived in the same block of flats in Swansea.

Hughes said the messages revealed that: “Mr Lewis entered into an agreement in which he paid Mr Saunders £1,500 which the prosecution say was a fee to arrange for the killing of Joanne Atkinson-Lewis.”

Hughes added that financial information showed Lewis withdrew £1,500 from his bank in Swansea and on the same day Saunders deposited a sum of £1,300 into his own account.

Messages between the two men in the following days showed Lewis repeatedly saying he had given Saunders £1,500 “in good faith” and demanded to “see the Go Pro“.

One message from Saunders read: “Death becomes her.”

The jury was told that Lewis later messaged Saunders to say he had “seen Joanne on Aberavon Prom and she was ok.”

Saunders replied: “Are you 99 per cent sure?”

Lewis confirmed: “I am 100 per cent sure.”

A day later Lewis messaged his neighbour again saying: “I want her out.”

The two later fell out after Lewis believed he had been scammed from his money.

One message from Saunders said: “You mad or what? How have I scammed you?

“The bloke got your money to do work, I ain’t got a thing so tell me how I scammed you.”

Lewis replied: “She is still breathing.

“Your story keeps changing. You said there were pictures on your phone, then it was on the GoPro.

“I’ve not even seen the pictures, you’re a liar.”

Prosecutor Hughes said: “Those series of messages clearly demonstrate Mr Lewis and Mr Saunders entered into a criminal agreement where Mr Lewis agreed to pay and did pay Mr Saunders £1,500 to facilitate the murder of Joanne Atkinson-Lewis.

“A reasonable interpretation is that Mr Saunders led Mr Lewis to believe he had paid a hitman to carry out the act and he had photographs on his phone or on his GoPro device.

“However once Paul Lewis saw his ex-wife was still alive and breathing on Aberavon Beach he realised the criminal agreement he made with Dominque Saunders hadn’t been carried out.”

The two men from Swansea both deny conspiracy to commit murder and one cannot be found guilty without the other.

Neither chose to give evidence in their defence.

The trial before judge Mr Justice Nicklin will continue at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court.

‘Get them off my screen’ rage Love Island fans as Megan and Conor’s hideaway romp leaves devastated Emily in tears

The pair now only have eyes for each other[/caption]

No sooner had she told a delighted Conor about the development, he suggested they spend the night in the hideaway.

He gave little thought to his current partner Emily, who only returned from the sleepover earlier in the day.

She decided to stay coupled with Conor and not swap him for dumped bombshell Will in the other villa.

When Conor bluntly told her he was off to the hideaway, it all proved a bit much.

Emily burst into tears and admitted she was more disappointed in pal Megan for not considering her feelings.

Though Megan apologised sincerely for the oversight, it wasn’t enough to make her change her mind and she and Conor excitedly headed to the hideaway.

En route, Conor admitted it was “so awkward” saying goodbye to Emily.

Once inside the private room, the pair cuddled up under the covers and shared passionate snogs.

Conor even presented Megan with a bracelet to show he was serious about her.

But viewers weren’t impressed, with one ranting on X: “Watching #LoveIslandUK thinking who is more gross Megan or Conor? Both so grim.”

Another fumed: “Megan is for the streets and Connor the alley cat.”

A third said: “Get Megan and Conor off my screen please.”

The following morning, they emerged from the hideaway into the sunny garden as Meg jokingly said they were on the “walk of shame”.

Tommy told Dejon and Harry that he felt a weight had been lifted off his shoulders.

‘Terrified’ Cheryl’s killer stalker flouts ban & turns up at house trying to meet her leaving singer feeling ‘violated’

CHERYL Tweedy’s killer stalker is back harassing her — flouting a restraining order by turning up at a house.

The order was imposed after a court heard that the 50-year-old left Girls Aloud singer Cheryl, 41, who lives with son Bear, eight, feeling “violated, terrified and unsafe in her home”.

He has previously been jailed for the manslaughter of a man at a homeless shelter.

In the latest scare, charges said he had attended a building where he believed singer Cheryl to be present in Buckinghamshire on June 19.

He was then understood to have been arrested in a swoop on his bail hostel.

Last Saturday he appeared before Reading magistrates’ court when he was remanded in custody.

He returned to the court yesterday to plead guilty to a single count of breaching the restraining order.

District judge Davinder Sandhu refused bail and sent the case to the town’s crown court for sentencing on September 23.

Bannister, who gave his home address as a bail hostel in Brixton, South London, faces up to five years in jail.

In March, when the creep was caged for 16 weeks, a court heard how his campaign of harassment began when he went to Cheryl’s mansion on January 25, 2024.

The former X Factor judge saw a stranger approach her doorbell camera and say: “It’s Dan. I’ve come to get Cheryl.”

He called again in July 2024 and asked through the intercom: “I’m really thirsty. Can I have a glass of wine please?”

The court at the time heard he “can’t stay away” from the singer.

Prosecutor Datta Ryan said that visit had made Cheryl feel “violated and terrified and unsafe in her home”.

Bannister was arrested and jailed for four months in September 2024, when he got a three-year restraining order banning him from contacting her.

But after he was released from prison he returned to the property on December 10, 2024 — as revealed exclusively by The Sun this January.

We told how Bannister’s visit came weeks after grieving Cheryl had attended the funeral of her ex, One Direction star and Bear’s dad Liam Payne, who fell to his death in Buenos Aires last October.

In a statement to cops — read to the court this March — Cheryl said: “I immediately panicked when I saw Daniel. I was in a state of alarm and shock. I feared for my safety immediately and I feared for my child’s safety. He was due back from the cinema and I didn’t want him to see Daniel.”

Bannister’s lawyer said the wannabe musician had gone back to the house after his arrest because he wanted to “reassure her”.

Lawyer Colin Mackrell said Bannister “formed in his mind an affectionate view of Ms Tweedy and he believes that was somehow reciprocated”.

A judge imposed a new indefinite order which prevents him from contacting Cheryl or entering any building where he knows or believes she might be.

Bannister was previously jailed for 30 months in 2012 for manslaughter after he launched a “sustained” fatal attack on Rajendra Patel, 48.

CCTV showed Bannister punching and kicking Mr Patel at a YMCA in Croydon, South East London.

Last night, neighbours of the Brixton bail hostel which Bannister gave as his address in court described him as a wild-haired loner.

Police were understood to have arrested him there just a day after he called cops to accuse a neighbour of trying to break into his home.

One man, 35, said: “When the police arrested him he was just smiling. He was paranoid.

Another neighbour, 25, said: “We didn’t have any interaction with the guy. He looked like he was in his own head.

“You can tell by looking at someone if they’re right or wrong, and he looked wrong.”
