OLIVER TARVET has been banned from claiming his full prize money after qualifying for Wimbledon despite being ranked world No. 719.
The British underdog caused a huge upset when he trumped world No.144 Alexander Blockx 6-3 3-6 6-2 6-1 in the final qualifying round.

Tarvet, 21, completed the astonishing victory even though it was his first best-of-five sets match.
He has become the 23rd British player to qualify for the tournament in the singles draw.
The tennis ace should have been in line for an eye-watering £66,000 in prize money for reaching Wimbledon’s first round.
However, he will miss out on the majority of the cash due to his status as a student-athlete in the US.
Tarvet studies at the University of San Diego in the US and has one more year to go before graduating.
But due to this, he is only allowed to claim £7,300 every year from prize money.
That money is used to pay for entrance fees and other expenses.
Tarvet has joked that he will be spending what he is able to pocket on his travel to SW19.

He said: “It’s a little bit awkward because I’ve got to find a lot of expenses and I really want to come back to the University of San Diego to complete my fourth year.
“What they’ve done for me is just incredible and I’m so grateful. I want to spend my fourth year there and really leave my mark on US history.
“I can claim up to $10,000, so I might be flying my coach on a private jet at home.”
Tarvet has enjoyed an impressive run to reach Wimbledon, beating top-250 players Terence Atmane and Alexis Galarneau in qualifying rounds.
He added: “There’s a lot of emotions, but the main one is just happiness.
“Ever since I was a little kid, it’s been my dream.”

THOUSANDS of fans are turning up in their droves (and their wellies) for the biggest music festival of the year.
But although Glastonbury 2025 got off to a damp start yesterday, music lovers are set to enjoy rocketing temperatures when its dazzling line-up of headliners take to the stage this weekend.
APAppearing on the Pyramid stage is an iconic moment for music stars[/caption]
ReutersRod has admitted that playing Glastonbury will end up costing HIM money[/caption]
This year will see The 1975, Rod Stewart and Olivia Rodrigo take to the iconic Pyramid stage – with punters paying around £387.50 a ticket.
Such is the prestige of Glasto that some acts agree to play there for a fraction of the fee they’d normally command.
Bestival organiser Rob Da Bank previously revealed: “Glastonbury is the one show that artists will play for free or for a reduced price.
“They cap their budget and even the headliners don’t get paid more than 500 grand, I think, which is cheap for some of the headliners – and they’ve had a lot of them.”
Though for many of this year’s biggest acts, it’s not about the money – as their healthy bank balances can afford to take the hit.
Here we take a look at the eye-watering fortunes of this year’s biggest names.
Rod Stewart – £224million
The Maggie May crooner, 80, is a festival veteran – and thanks to decades in the spotlight he’s built up a pretty hefty fortune.
He’s estimated to have banked £224million, which is no surprise given Rod has sold more than 120 million records.
Part of his huge wealth comes from selling his back catalogue in February last year for a staggering £72million.
Rod, who’s touring in the US, claims his Legends slot at Worthy Farm this year will actually see him lose money.
He said: “It was about eight months ago when I was asked to do it, maybe a little longer. But it didn’t fit with my schedule because I’ve got to bring everybody back from America.
“It’s going to cost me £300,000 to do it, and they only pay you about 120,000 quid. So it’s going to cost me.”
He later added that “it doesn’t matter” that he’s having to splash his own cash for the show, as the kudos is worth it.
Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts – £146.9m
GettyNeil last played Glastonbury back in 2009 on the Pyramid stage[/caption]
His fortune is estimated to be around £146.9million according to Celebrity Net Worth.
Like Sir Rod he made a wad of cash selling a chunk of his back catalogue for £109million.
Neil last played Glastonbury back in 2009, also on the Pyramid Stage, but his return to the festival wasn’t smooth.
He previously threatened to pull out of the festival due to its BBC partnership feeling like “a corporate turn-off” but was persuaded to stay on – though his performance won’t be broadcast on the Beeb according to the channel’s Glastonbury schedule.
Nile Rodgers and Chic – £146.9m
GettyNeil is adding to his fortune by developing a musical of the Blues Brothers[/caption]
Blues legend Nile, 72, has also amassed a jaw-dropping £146.9m, reports Celeb Net Worth.
And it’s not surprising given he’s sold more than 750 million albums and 100 million singles worldwide.
Nile was also a member of English rock band The Honeydrippers and R&B group New York City, as well as the band Material – all of which will have bolstered his bank balance.
Nile is currently working on a Blues Brothers musical set to launch on Broadway before coming to London’s West End.
A source told The Sun: “Nile loves the film and jumped at the chance to get on board.
“The whole process is still in the very early stages so it won’t be opening for a while but he has officially signed on to the project.”
The Everybody Dance singer is also credited with turning queen of pop Madonna into an icon.
John Fogerty – £80.8m
GettyJohn made some of his cash renting out lavish properties in California[/caption]
Best known as the lead singer of Creedence Clearwater Revival, John and his band are performing together for the first time since 2007 at this year’s festival.
John’s music success is believed to have netted him £80.8m – thanks to hit songs like Susie Q, Have you Ever Seen the Rain and Fortunate Son.
Outside of his music earnings he’s invested heavily in property – one of which in California sold for $20million in 2023, netting more than $11m in profit.
Alanis Morissette – £44m
GettyAlanis has a huge fortune, despite a business manager stealing from her[/caption]
Canadian singer Alanis, 51, is the richest woman playing Glastonbury this year, with an estimated fortune of £44million.
The Alt-Rock queen rose to stardom with her 1995 album Jagged Little Pill when she was jut 21.
But it wasn’t an easy road, as she had to deal with rampant sexism.
She told The Guardian: “What I found in terms of the lovely patriarchy, was that at that time if men couldn’t f*** me, they didn’t know what to do with me.”
Most of her earnings come from her 75 million albums sold across the globe.
In 2017 she sued her former business manager for stealing $5million from her over seven years.
Like John Fogerty, Alanis has also invested in several properties, all of which sold for millions more than she paid for them.
Olivia Rodrigo £18.3m
GettyFormer Disney child actor Olivia wants to be known for her songwriting not singing[/caption]
Disney child star Olivia is only 22, but she’s already sitting on an incredible £18.3m fortune, according to Celeb Net Worth.
The Driver’s Licence singer is thought to have earned up to £14,563 per episode for her role on High School Musical: The Musical—The Series.
She’s sold more than four million albums across the UK and USA, plus her two world tours which will have bolstered her accounts.
Reacting to her headline slot at Glastonbury, Olivia posted on Instagram: “Can’t think of anything more exciting than headlining Glastonbury but being in the NYT crossword is pretty close.”
She previously admitted she wants to be known as a songwriter rather than “the biggest pop star that ever lived”, adding: “I worked my whole childhood, and I’m never going to get it back.”
Danny O’Donoghue, The Script – £11.7m
GettyThe Script members have made millions over the years[/caption]
The Script are returning to Glastonbury for the second time and have this time made it to the main Pyramid Stage.
Reflecting on the band’s journey, Danny told Hot Press: “It was the story of rags to riches for us. Going from not having two pennies to rub together, to playing Croke Park.”
Lead singer Danny is estimated to be worth £11,7million thanks to the band and his TV projects.
He is believed to have been paid a whopping £100,000 per series for appearing on BBC’s The Voice as a judge.
Danny has also taken a share of the profits from The Script, which has sold more than 20million albums.
Meanwhile the band’s former guitarist Mark Sheenan left £9.4million to his family after his tragic death aged 46 in 2003.
Matty Healy, The 1975 – £11m
GettyMatty is known for his controversial quips on stage[/caption]
The 1975 will be playing Glastonbury for the first time this year after years of trying to make it happen.
Lead singer Matty, 36, is thought to be worth £11million thanks to the band’s huge success.
The Manchester-based group are best know for their hits Somebody Else and Robbers, and have sold over two million albums worldwide.
Brandi Carlile – £8m
GettyBrandi has won six Emmy awards for her music[/caption]
American rocker Brandi has said playing at Worthy Farm is a dream come true for her.
Estimated to be worth £8million, Brandi has been nominated 18 times for a Grammy and taken home six of the prestigious awards.
While she is traditionally a solo singer, she did form a county supergroup in 2019 with Amanda Shires and Maren Morris called Highwomen.
Ricky Wilson, Kaiser Chiefs – £7.3m
GettyRicky attends the festival when he’s not performing as he loves it that much[/caption]
The Kaiser Chiefs are back at Glastonbury for a fourth time this year, after making their debut in 2005.
Frontman Ricky, 47, is understood to have netted himself a fortune of £7.3million thanks to the band’s success and his work as a judge on The Voice.
He previously claimed he’d only return to the ITV talent show if they offered him a £1million pay cheque.
Even when not preforming, Ricky is a huge fan of the festival. He said on Virgin Radio: “I stayed there for three days and had the best three days of my life.”
Raye – £5.2m
GettyRaye smashed the Brits record for the number of awards taken home in one night[/caption]
British pop star Raye, 27, is returning to the Pyramid stage after her debut performance two years ago.
Since rising to fame she’s thought to be worth around £5.2million -but claimed last year she makes no money from her album sales as she was only breaking even.
Her earnings will no doubt be bolstered by her work as a songwriter, with the likes of Little Mix and Ellie Goulding having recorded songs she penned.
At last year’s Brit Awards Raye smashed records for the most awards taken home in one night with her six.
Simon Neil, Biffy Clyro – £2.9m
GettyBiffy Clyro are no strangers to performing at the iconic festival[/caption]
Scottish band Biffy Clyro, made up of Simon Neil and twins James and Ben Johnston, are back for their fifth time at Glastonbury.
Frontman Simon, 45, is estimated to be worth just shy of £3million from their success across the globe.
And they’re cashing in on the festival as they’ve just announced their new album Futique.
Given they’ve sold millions of albums worldwide, this latest drop is sure to be a success.
Pete Doherty, The Libertines – £1.05m
GettyPete has managed to claw back some of his fortune after years of partying[/caption]
They opened the festival in 2022, and now The Libertines are back at Glastonbury, following their UK tour last year.
Frontman Pete, 46, who now lives in France with wife Katia and their daughter, also played the festival in 2005 with his band Babyshambles.
He is estimated to be worth around £1.05m by the Daily Mail, despite his money troubles.
In an interview with The Guardian last year, Pete admitted he still had debts to pay with the money from the new album.
He said: “For me, there are tax bills from 15 years ago. Also, every time I think I’ve made a bit of bunce, it’s gone immediately.”

IF you want to ensure you are washing your towels at the right temperature to not only banish germs, but to also leave them feeling super soft, then you’ve come to the right place.
While many of us will wash our towels at 60 degrees, it turns out that if you want to avoid “crunchy” results, you’ll need to lower the temperature.
GettyIf your towels are feeling crunchier than ever before, we’ve got just the thing for you[/caption]
GettyHere, a DIY expert has shared how to get your towels in tip-top-shape, whilst banishing germs[/caption]
GettyHe also revealed a two-second hack you’ll need to do in the drying process[/caption]
Not only this, but he also revealed the “optimum temperature” for best results.
Tom explained: “Towels can feel hard and stiff due to the build up of soap and detergent which causes a less absorbent layer on your towels.
“You may think that a lot of fabric softener and a hot wash will keep your towels fresh, but this can actually have the opposite effect.”
Instead, Tom stressed the importance of reducing the temperature when washing towels, which will make a huge difference to how long they last.
He advised: “You may think that hotter temperatures are better for cleaning clothes, but for towels the optimum temperature is between 30C to 40C.
“Warm water absorbs detergent better, in turn leaving less chemical child up on your towels, which makes them feel stiff.”
As a result, the pro acknowledged: “Although washing your towels at higher temperatures is the most efficient way to get rid of germs, 30C or 40C will still eliminate most of your bacteria and preserve your towel’s fibres.”
This can also be applied when washing bedding too, but always make sure to check the label to avoid damage.
Not only this, but if you want to put the softness back into your laundry, Tom shared a simple and very cost-effective hack.
“Fabric softener will coat the fibres of the towel and build up over time which causes towels to feel hard and become less absorbent.
“Soften with towels in a load of just white vinegar once every few weeks to remove the soapy residue that causes your towels to feel hard.
Laundry tips
Catherine Green, sustainable cleaning expert at smol shared her laundry tips.
How often should you be remaking your bed?
When it comes to your bed, maintaining a hygienic sleep setup can actually improve your sleep quality, helping you start every day better.
Most people shed 500 million skin cells per day and a lot of that ends up in bed for dust mites to feed on. And those with asthma or allergies might see symptoms worsen by sleeping on dirty sheets!
You want to be washing your sheets once a week – or every 10 days if you don’t suffer from allergies and wear nightclothes. Bedding builds up with sweat, skin cells and oils quickly, even if it doesn’t look dirty.
Using an effective detergent like smol’s will still give you a great clean on a 20°C cycle – that’s better for the planet and your energy bills!
What temperature do smol recommend then?
For your regular weekly washes I recommend washing most loads at 20°C for 30 minutes. It’s gentler on fabrics, slashes energy use, and still delivers excellent stain removal with the right detergent. A colder wash can actually be more effective if you opt for a bio detergent as its enzymes need cooler water; too hot and they lose their ability to digest stains. A wash at 60°c (unless you have silk sheets) every now and again can help kill off dust mites and other nasties.
What’s the difference between bio and non-bio detergent?
Bio detergents contain enzymes, which are especially good at breaking down tough stains like food, grass, or sweat. It’s best used in mid to low temperature washes (ideally between 20-40°C) as anything hotter can cause them not to work effectively.
Non-bio skips the enzymes, which in turn makes it more suitable for those with sensitive skin or allergies. Although non-bio doesn’t contain enzymes, it’s still great at removing stains and keeping your clothes clean, you just may need to use a slightly higher temperature setting to aid with the cleaning process.
“One cup of white vinegar will be enough for this process,” he noted.
As well as avoiding fabric softener, Tom recognised the importance of ditching tumble dryers to dry towels.
30C or 40C will still eliminate most of your bacteria and preserve your towel’s fibres
Tom Drake
He recognised that due to the hot heat within the appliance, towels may end up turning stiff and crunchy, as he continued: “Line drying is the most environmentally friendly way to dry towels.”
He also shared a two-second trick to ensure your towels stay fluffy for longer.
“If you’re drying them this way, you should shake the towels once they’ve dried to fluff them up,” Tom recommended.

A HUGELY popular UK attraction with 400,000 visitors has suddenly closed.
The Wave near Bristol was popular among water-sport lovers before bookings were unexpectedly cancelled after it collapsed into administration on June 26.
AlamyThe Wave, near Bristol, collapsed into administration on Thursday June 26[/caption]
PASurfers have had their bookings cancelled and the website is down[/caption]
PAThe site cost £25 million to build, with its founders still indebted to investors[/caption]
When it opened in 2019, it was Britain’s first inland surfing lake.
The £25 million project was filled with 26 million litres of water to produce nearly 1,000 waves an hour ranging from nearly 20 inches to more than six foot.
Surfers have been left disappointed after the business suddenly closed, and its website shuttered, showing a holding message saying the page couldn’t be found.
They have since been told that their bookings have been cancelled.
The majority owners cited the bankruptcy of a director of JAR Wave, another funding partner, as the reason behind the financial trouble.
However, Bristol Live reported that there had been issues in the facility’s management dating back to April when its founder Nick Hounsfield resigned.
In April, Nick Hounsfield’s firm The Wave Group Ltd moved from Bristol to London as it entered administration, appointing Begbies Traynor Group to manage the insolvency.
Nick then resigned from the company, and at the end of May the company was renamed to SBL Midco.
A report issued on May 22 claimed that the company had struggled to repay loans used to build the site.
It claimed the facility was effectively put up for sale in May of this year as they sought new investors to pay off the debt – which totalled around £15 million across various companies.
A month later they decided to close the company down after a rescue package wasn’t finalised.
Majority owners Sullivan Street Partners have said that a refinancing plan is underway which could see the site reopened.
The company said it invested £27 million into The Wave in 2023.
When he first announced the project with Craig Stodder in 2010 to tackle mental health with the joy of surfing, Nick said: “It’s amazing to finally be able to show people what we have created and I’m unbelievably proud of our team who have got us to this point.
He added: “I feel incredibly privileged and grateful to be part of this, as well as excited about the potential we have to bring greater health and happiness to people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.”
What does going into administration mean?
WHEN a company enters into administration, all control is passed to an appointed administrator.
The administrator has to leverage the company’s assets and business to repay creditors any outstanding debts.
Once a company enters administration, a “moratorium” is put in place which means no legal action can be taken against it.
Administrators write to your creditors and Companies House to say they’ve been appointed.
They try to stop the company from being liquidated (closing down), and if it can’t it pays as much of a company’s debts from its remaining assets.
The administrator has eight weeks to write a statement explaining what they plan to do to move the business forward.
This must be sent to creditors, employees and Companies House and invite them to approve or amend the plans at a meeting.
A Notice of Intention is used to inform concerning parties that a company intends to enter administration.
It is a physical document which is submitted to court, usually by directors aiming to prevent a company from being liquidated.
Like with a standard administration process, a Notice of Intention stops creditors from taking out any legal action over a company while they try and rectify the business.
The company had planned to expand into London in 2023 at Lee Valley Regional Park – although this never happened.
Since 2019, the facility has welcomed 400,000 visitors, from beginners seeking surf lessons, to seasoned experts.
The 180m lake was operated using solar array and battery storage to create more energy than was used each year according to The Wave team.
In a statement, Sullivan Street Partners said: “The Wave Group team apologises unreservedly for any upset caused and is doing its best to ensure the situation can be remedied.
“The Wave Group, owners of the surf park in Bristol, has lined up a refinancing alongside its exciting London developments, which would see all creditors repaid in full within a week and is offering to continue to operate the park.”

LIONEL MESSI saw a football club naming a stand after him… even though he never played for that team.
Messi, 38, is considered by many as the greatest player of all time after winning a record eight Ballon d’Or honours throughout his glittering 21-year career.
A football club named one of its stands after Lionel MessiNewell’s Old Boys gave Messi the ultimate honourThat is despite the fact Messi never played for Newell’s Old BoysFans were frustrated with that decision and many complained about the paint job
The star forward’s brilliant legacy was carved out at Barcelona where he spent 17 successful years that saw him winning 10 LaLiga titles, seven Copa del Rey honours and four Champions League trophies.
The Argentina captain didn’t enjoy the same level of success at Paris Saint-Germain where he played for two years after his heartbreaking exit from Barca in 2021.
And now the Inter Miami superstar is enjoying the winter of his career in the MLS where he has fallen off the radar despite a string of impressive performances for David Beckham’s club.
But it was Newell’s Old Boys that gave Messi the ultimate honour by naming one of their stadium’s stands after him.
The Argentine great has history with the club as he joined their academy at the age of eight and spent five years within their youth ranks before moving to Barcelona esteemed La Masia set up.
However, the legendary footballer never picked up a senior appearance with the Argentinean outfit.
Nevertheless, Messi has always been a fan of the club and has repeatedly expressed his support.
Old Boys issued photos of their new stand on social media and added the following caption: “Our home. The house of football history.”

Some fans were left baffled and expressed frustration with the club for honouring a player that never competed for the team at senior level – even if it is someone of Messi’s caliber.
And a section of the fanbase was also angry with the powers that be as they didn’t bother to repaint the bottom part of the stand.
One fan tweeted: “@Grok how many senior appearances has Lionel Messi made for Newells Old Boys?”
Another commented: “I thought it was us messing around, but no, they’re just that clueless.”
A third wrote: “Can you give me the info on the number of official goals scored by Messi?”
This fan said: “How sloppy, they didn’t even paint below!! No wonder Messi didn’t even thank them.”
And that one stated: “I feel second-hand embarrassment.”
