Liverpool ready to offer winger to Crystal Palace in swap for £50m-rated Marc Guehi as transfer spree goes on

LIVERPOOL are ready to throw flying Scot Ben Doak into a swap deal for England star Marc Guehi.

The Kop’s transfer team are focusing on centre-half Guehi, 24, as their next target but Palace want around £50million for him.

Doak, 19, is fancied by Palace and rated in the £25m class despite his limited appearances outside a loan spell at Middlesbrough.

He played 24 times in the Championship last term, scoring three times and assisting seven goals.

Liverpool would offer the winger and cash to snap up Guehi but that will take a great deal of negotiating.

Palace supremo Steve Parish is renowned for standing firm on valuations.

Everton are keen on Doak but not at that price.

Meanwhile, Guehi is letting his deal run down but has been relatively low-paid at Selhurst Park for some time — money is not his driving force.

His deal is set to expire at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

Liverpool are not the only club interested in his services with Newcastle and Manchester United also keen.

Liverpool have been active in the transfer market as they look to strengthen ahead of the Premier League title defence.

Barcelona to pay Lionel Messi £5MILLION on Monday as cash-strapped Catalans FINALLY clear debt owed to club legend

BARCELONA will send Lionel Messi a payment on Monday to finally clear the financial debt the club owe him.

The La Liga giants still owed the legend money from his final contract at the Camp Nou, which ended in 2021.

Messi has gone on to star for Paris Saint-Germain and now plays for Inter Miami – and will be in action tonight against his old club at the Club World Cup.

But according to Culemania, via AS, the 38-year-old will receive a payment of just over £5million, or €5.95m, tomorrow.

The June 30 payment will mark the end of an agreement between Messi and the club struck while he was still on the books in Spain.

Barcelona were hit hard by the Covid-19 crisis and were left in near-financial ruin as a result.

As a result, they made an agreement with Messi to defer the payment of his contract.

That value totalled a sum of almost £41m (€47.6m).

A report from Sport added that Barcelona had duly fulfilled all their commitments to date.

The Argentine is not the only player who this agreement applied to, with Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba – both now starring alongside Messi in Florida – also taking up similar offers.

Busquets will be paid just over £1m (€1.18m) while Alba will be receiving £806,000 (€944,000).

June 30 will also see Barcelona clearing debts from six other former players, including the likes of expensive flops Antoine Griezmann and Philippe Coutinho.

The total outlay for deferred payments coming out on Monday equals around £13.7m (€16m).

Barca will be paying Samuel Umtiti £1m (1.2m), Griezmann £824,000 (€965,000), Coutinho £730,000 (€855,00), Ousmane Dembele £550,000 (€644,000), Miralem Pjanic £550,000 (€644,000) and Sergi Roberto £477,000 (€599,000).

Some stars still at Barcelona from the time also have similar deals in place, including Ronald Araújo, Pedri, Ansu Fati and Iñaki Peña, though these amounts are less than the three club legends were owed.

Frenkie de Jong and Marc-Andre ter Stegen did not agree to a deferred salary but did accept a renewal to stagger out payments more.

Fans urged to avoid ‘dangerous and illegal’ practice as Meath GAA and Gardai issue traffic warning for All-Ireland clash

FANS have been warned to avoid using “dangerous and illegal” pyro as Gardai issued a traffic notice for the All-Ireland quarter-final between Meath and Galway.

The Royals and Tribesmen meet at Croke Park on Sunday afternoon looking to seal a place in the final four of the Sam Maguire.

On Saturday evening, Meath GAA posted a joint notice from An Garda Siochana and Croke Park Stadium Operations outlining guidance for matchgoing supporters.

It read: “The Gardai and Croke Park Stadium Operations have asked that supporters be mindful of the below information ahead of tomorrow’s GAA Football All-Ireland Quarter Final against Galway.

“Come early and enjoy the atmosphere, stiles open 90 minutes prior to the first game.

“Plan your journey in advance and leave plenty of time to arrive in the stadium. There are a number of other city events taking place.

“Where possible use public transport.

“Have your ticket downloaded in advance.

“Follow the instructions of Stewards and An Garda Siochana at all times”.

As well as instructions for how and when to get to GAAHQ, fans were also advised as to what to bring to the stadium or, more appropriately, what not to.

It added: “Supporters are reminded that flares and smoke cannisters are dangerous and illegal and are strictly prohibited.

“Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.

“Remember Croke Park is in a residential area. Please Respect our neighbours.”

Meath and Galway will be looking to join Donegal – who beat Monaghan – and Tyrone – who vanquished Dublin – in the final four.

The final quarter-final will pit reigning champions Armagh against Kerry.

Heading into the weekend’s action, 1999 All-Ireland winning Meath legend Graham Geraghty ranked the quarter-finalists in his column for SunSport.

And Galway and Meath were difficult to separate, with the former Royals captain ranking Padraic Joyce’s side in eighth and his native county in seventh.

He said of Galway: “This one might raise eyebrows straight off the bat.

“And such are the fine margins at play, there will be no great surprise on my behalf if Galway are back at Croke Park in a fortnight.

“But for me, a Tribe side capable of blowing hot and cold are not as formidable as they were 12 months ago.

“When Shane Walsh does not catch fire, they tend not to function well as a unit.

“They have coped without Damien Comer, though the different dimension he can provide would be a huge asset for them.

“After losing an All-Ireland final by a point, the road to atonement is long and arduous.

“Both mentally and physically, there is a lot of mileage on the clock.”

‘SHACKLES ARE OFF’

As for Meath, Geraghty said: “Beating Galway is well within Meath’s capability. The Royals have excelled under the new rules and they have become a very confident outfit under Robbie Brennan.

“It is as if the shackles have been taken off, particularly for the younger players as they have really started to express themselves.

“Meath have done extremely well to persevere in the face of injuries to some important players.

“But that has left them a bit light on the bench.

“Losing Martin Corey and Joe McMahon from the backroom staff was a massive blow in March.

“Having since taken the scalps of Dublin and Kerry, the players should be commended hugely for the way they responded.”

Jake Paul lands DOUBLE amount of punches than Julio Cesar Chavez Jr with ex-world champ’s damning stats laid bare

The Problem Child cruised to victory against the former world champion as the judges voted unanimously.

Paul, 28, won nine out of ten rounds in the bout at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

The YouTuber-turned-boxer was only bettered in the ninth round as Chavez Jr staged a late resurgence.

However, the Mexican left himself with far too much to do, having been on the back foot for much of the fight.

Paul landed more than double the number of punches that Chavez Jr managed.

He landed 140 of his 482 thrown throughout the ten rounds, while his rival only connected with 61.

Chavez Jr only threw 154 punches throughout the entire fight and bizarrely only attempted four in the first round.

He did not land a single one of these as he finished the third round with only 14 punches thrown and three landing.

The one positive for Chavez Jr was that his accuracy was far superior to that of Paul.

He landed an impressive 39.4 per cent of his punches while Paul only connected with 29 per cent.

His best moment came in the ninth round as he hit Paul with a solid uppercut and right hook.

Meanwhile, Paul called out FIVE rivals in the ring after beating Chavez Jr.

He is targeting fights against the likes of boxing icon Anthony Joshua and old foe Tommy Fury.

He said: “I want tougher fighters. I want to be world champion. Zurdo looked slow as s*** tonight, that’d be easy work too.

“Badou Jack, I want everybody. Anthony Joshua, Gervonta (Davis) and Tommy, stop running.”

He also sent a classy message to former adversary Ben Askrin, who is in hospital waiting for a lung transplant.
