Des Cahill reveals ‘what I respect most’ about Dessie Farrell after ‘decades of service’ following Dublin GAA exit

DES CAHILL has paid tribute to Dessie Farrell and his “decades of service” after stepping down as Dublin football manager.

Farrell resigned following yesterday’s All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Tyrone.

The RTE veteran shared a heartwarming throwback photo of the ex-Dublin gaffer

It brought to an end a six-year stint at the helm which yielded two Sam Maguire titles.

Reacting to his resignation, veteran RTE broadcaster Cahill praised the now-former gaffer and revealed what he respected the most about him.

He tweeted: “Dessie Farrell steps down after nearly four decades of service to #Dublin GAA.

“Apart from winning senior All-Ireland’s as a player AND manager, what I respect most is the years he put in with county development squads, and Minor and Under 21 teams.

“Enjoy your Tues & Thurs nights!”

Farrell’s final year in charge of the Dubs will go down as a disappointing one.

As well as exiting the All-Ireland at the quarter-final stage for the second year in a row, they also lost their stranglehold on the Leinster SFC.

A stunning defeat to Meath in the semi-finals brought to an end the Dubs’ run of 14 provincial titles in a row, with Louth eventually being crowned champions.

However, in his parting message, Farrell insisted that the Sky Blues will rise to the top of the pile once again.

He said: “I would have informed the County Board at the start of the season that regardless of what happened this would be the last hurrah.

“I’ve informed the players in the dressing room there as well that I’d be stepping away. I’ve had a great innings.

“I think it’s just come to a natural end. It’s easier to say it today than I have to say it next week or in a couple of weeks’ time.

“While everyone’s bitterly disappointed, sometimes failure is greatness waiting to happen. This could be a big platform for that group going forward.

“A lot of lessons in this season for players and for the group, and I think they’ll be better for it and well set up to attack a new season in 2026.

“Some of the new lads we brought in this year, still getting to know them, but a great crop of fellas as well. It augurs very well for Dublin football.”

Farrell says 2025 was always going to be a transition year for Dublin after the host of departures.

But the 1995 All-Ireland winning hitman loved every second of his time in charge as they won two All-Irelands and five Leinster SFC crowns under his watch.

‘DIFFERENT SEASON’

He said: “I think everyone involved, management, coaches, backroom and players knew that this was going to be a different season. We just embraced that challenge and see where it took us.

“I definitely don’t want to make it about me because it’s always and always has been about the players. Ultimately, they’re the men who step into the arena.

“They’re the men in the formative years of their lives who dedicate so much to playing for their county. I have huge admiration and respect for them.

“I think the overriding feeling for me now is that I will miss the people. It’s not necessarily the position because some of the relationships are really important to me.

“Some of those lads have been like kids to me, watching them grow up.

“They’re a special group and I’m very, very grateful for them and for all they’ve given. They’ll drive on and Dublin will be a good place next season and the season after.

“I think between being a player for Dublin underage and as a senior player and then as an underage coach and senior coach, manager, whatever you want to call it, I’ve got the guts of 40 years.

“It’s a long time and it’s been a privilege every year, every step of the journey. I’ve met some great people. I’ve had a ringside seat for some of the best players that ever performed in the arena out there.”

I hated the perv next door trying to look in our garden so my dad found a ‘functional, pretty’ way to block him out

A WOMAN who was desperate to find a way to stop her neighbour “perving” over the fence has shared the “functional and pretty” solution her dad came up with.

Laura had initially taken to a Facebook group to ask for advice on how to increase the amount of privacy she had in her garden, after the next door neighbour reduced the height of his fence.

So her dad came up with the idea of making this ‘fence panel planter’, which Laura then stood in front of the fence to add some extra height
Facebook/Gardening Homemaking and Homesteading On A Budget

And after taking in some suggestions, Laura then enlisted the help of her parents, with her dad inventing a genius solution and building it himself.

“Not sure if anyone can remember me asking what I can do for privacy as next door reduced a fence panel so he can see in our home or possibly even perv,” she wrote in her post on the Gardening Homemaking and Homesteading On A Budget group.

“Well here is the finished project, just need some soil and plants in it.”

She posted snaps of the results alongside her post, showing that her dad had built what looked like another fence panel, with a wooden planter at the bottom, which stood in front of the short panel.

And as the new fence planter was the same height as the other panels that hadn’t been made shorter, it effectively blocked out any unwanted stares.

“I think my mum and dad did a good job building it ,” Laura added, calling them “very talented”.

People in the comments section were quick to weigh in, with one writing: “It’s a shame that we are inclined to think people are doing things for ulterior motives.

“We kept our fence low as we had an elderly lady next to us and she was happy to be able to see us.”

However, Laura hit back: “The people before us said that the fence was 6ft when they moved out and they did not talk to him over the fence.

“When they moved out, that’s when he lowered that one panel.

“The man over the road also told us this too.”

And others quickly praised Laura, and her parents, for implementing the effective, budget-friendly plan.

“Brilliant idea to stand this in front of the fence,” one wrote.

“Looks great and you now have your privacy that your neighbour can’t do anything about!

“Your dad did a great job. Functional and pretty!” another praised.

“Wow, what an obnoxious thing for him to do!” a third marvelled.

How to create privacy in your garden

CREATING privacy in your garden can be achieved in a number of ways depending on your budget, and the size of your space. Here are some effective ways to enhance privacy in your garden:

1. Fencing

  • Install a tall, solid wooden or vinyl fence. This is one of the most straightforward ways to gain immediate privacy. Or use lattice panels, trellis, or slatted fencing to add a decorative touch while still offering privacy.

2. Hedges and Plants

  • Fast-growing evergreen shrubs or trees like Leylandii, Thuja, or Bamboo along the boundary of your garden can help with privacy. Grow a dense hedge using plants like Boxwood, Privet, or Laurel. It may take time to grow, but it provides a natural and green privacy screen. Use climbers like Ivy, Clematis, or Wisteria on fences or trellises to create a lush, green privacy barrier.

3. Outdoor Curtains

  • Hang outdoor curtains around pergolas, gazebos, or patios for an easy-to-adjust privacy solution.

4. Sound Barriers

  • A water fountain or small waterfall can help drown out noise, adding to the sense of privacy. Or install fencing designed to reduce noise if privacy from sound is also a concern.

“Good solution! I would plant vines.”

“Looks really good,” someone else agreed.

“Can’t believe someone would do that!”

“I’d keep a diary of his movements plus put up some security cameras,” another suggested.

“How sad to have a neighbour like that!”

“We have CCTV all around the house,” Laura replied.

“We brought it off the old owners but unfortunately not sure how to work it yet.”

“It’s marvellous, I know how you feel I have a nosy Parker next to me,” someone else sighed.

“Great solution, now grow something that will be taller than the fence – that’ll stop the perv,” another wrote.

Major Google warning as hundreds of millions of devices ‘cut off’ – leaving your devices exposed to sinister crooks

GOOGLE has issued a major warning as hundreds of millions of devices “cut off”, leaving them vulnerable to sinister crooks.

The tech giant has announced that users with outdated software will no longer be able to access Google Chrome.

Android users running below version 10.0 will lose access to Google Chrome[/caption]

Anyone using an Android device running below version 10.0 will lose access to the site starting this August.

Millions of users still rely on outdated software due to limited manufacturer updates, abandoned devices from carriers, and other factors.

Still, these devices can’t keep up with today’s technology.

It follows Google’s move in 2023, when it ended support for devices running Android 7.0 Nougat, introduced in 2016.

The announcement comes as the tech giant prepares to launch Chrome 139, expected in the first 7 to 10 days of the month.

The biggest impact for users of outdated Android versions is missing out on vital security updates.

Users with Android versions below 10.0 should try to upgrade to continue using Google Chrome.

If an upgrade isn’t possible, replacing the outdated device is the best option.

Otherwise, your device could be left exposed to cybercriminals while browsing the web.

Google said in a support document: “Chrome 138 is the last version of Chrome that will support Android 8.0 (Oreo) and Android 9.0 (Pie).

“You’ll need to ensure your device is running Android 10.0 or later to continue receiving future Chrome releases.

“Older versions of Chrome will continue to work, but there will be no further updates released for users on these operating systems.”

It comes after the tech giant issued an alert to anyone who uses the browser on their PC.

A concerning bug has been found on the popular app which could lead to hijacking of your device.

The bug has been given a “zero-day” mark which indicates that the vulnerability is being actively used by hackers in the wild.

Google has acted swiftly to address the issue and has now patched the browser to prevent it from any further attacks.

Google said: “Google is aware of reports that an exploit for CVE-2025-4664 exists in the wild.

“The Stable channel has been updated to 136.0.7103.113/.114 for Windows, Mac and 136.0.7103.113 for Linux which will roll out over the coming days/weeks.”

However, the fix will only work after it has been downloaded and installed on your browser.

Vsevolod Kokorin, a security researcher at Solidlab, was the first to discover this most recent Chrome issue and confirmed that it may result in an account takeover by cybercriminals.

It is now crucial to make sure you are using the most recent version of Chrome if you use it as your primary web browser.

To accomplish this, just select “About Chrome” after clicking on the Chrome in the toolbar.

Make sure you have rebooted your browser to the latest version as soon as possible.

Cameras picked up some of the back-and-forth, which started with Pimblett saying: “Well done, lad.

“That was a heavy knockout, respect… but you will never knock me out.”

Topuria responded: “I’m going to take your head, you little p***y.

“I’m going to put my balls on your forehead, you little p***y!”

A fired-up Pimblet then said: “I never get knocked out, I’ll finish you, little man.”

Seconds before shoving Pimblett, Topuria replied: “Get your bum arse out of here.”

Pimblett lapped up the moment as he left the cage and promptly revealed to UFC cameras what Topuria said to him when the microphone wasn’t on the Georgian-born Spaniard.

He said: “Ilia’s just said in the cage that he’s going to submit me.

“I will put that little b*tch in his place. Get it booked!”

MMA fans loved the impromptu face off between long-time rivals Topuria and Pimblett.

UFC supremo Dana White, however, wasn’t a fan and insisted the pair should’ve never got in earshot of one another.

He said: “I don’t know who the hell let him in there.

“That should have never happened.

“I was already back in my room or that would have never happened.”

Aldi’s 89p bakery staple will repel flying ants from your home for good – they hate the smell & it lasts for weeks

EXPERTS have warned Flying Ant Day could be one of the biggest in recent years, but Aldi’s cupboard staple will keep the pests out of your home.

The affordable and simple solution is a toxin-free way to keep a potential ant problem at bay.

Cinnamon is a simple cupboard staple which is perfect for getting rid of ants[/caption]

Pest control experts swear by it

To deter these pesky insects from infiltrating your home, experts recommend Ground Cinnamon, and you can get it for less than £1 in Aldi.

For only 89p, shoppers can pick up this household essential, which is known to solve the pest problem.

Chemical methods can be effective, but for shoppers wanting to find a non-toxic and harmless remedy to the issue, cinnamon is the perfect option.

Will it kill the ants?

Put simply, no, using cinnamon in your home does not kill the ants, but it will deter them.

President of Black Pest Prevention, Nicole Carpenter explained: “The scent of cinnamon itself doesn’t kill ants. However, it makes the life of ants much more difficult.

Flying ant day is almost here. This is how you can deter them.[/caption]

“Cinnamon is a product with a strong scent, and this strong scent can create an unfavourable environment for ants, making them want to leave your space.”

Similar products like vinegar or essential oils also emit a similar strong scent and work by intercepting the pheromone trails, which they use to find food.

Getting started

There are different ways to use cinnamon to prevent ants.

The simplest option is to sprinkle ground cinnamon along the ant’s entry points and trails, creating a barrier to stop the pests infesting your home.

However, it’s not the most permanent option, as a strong wind or movement can blow the cinnamon away.

What’s more, for some homeowners, the idea of having cinnamon scattered around their home is not an appealing solution.

Experts also suggest using cinnamon sticks as a mess-free option.

For a solution which is less likely to blow away, lay the sticks in any location where you have seen the ants to have a similar non-toxic deterrent.

To level up this hack, experts said essential cinnamon oil is also an effective method.

Mix 60 ml of water with the same quantity of vodka (optional) and add 20-25 drops of the cinnamon oil.

Spray can be a less obvious way of deterring ants from infesting your home[/caption]

The vodka is used to keep the solution together after it has been shaken.

This solution can be sprayed in the problem areas, and can be applied when necessary, which means you do not have to see the cinnamon scattered around your home.

Experts are warning that this year’s Flying Ant Day could be the biggest in recent records due to the summer’s high humidity.

The high humidity encourages ants to swarm and can wreak havoc on your summer plans.

But as Paul Blackhurst, Head of the Technical Academy at Rentokil Pest Control, said: “While flying ants may disrupt your picnic, barbeque, or pub garden pint, they play a vital role in the ecosystem.”

He added: “This natural event, when vast numbers of winged ants, known as a lates, take to the skies at once in search of mates from other colonies, could be one of the most prolific for years.”

Experts have suggested that year’s Flying Ant Day – the annual mating flight where millions fill the skies in synchronised displays – could be one of the biggest in recent years.

Inside newly-single Sophie Radford’s ‘feral’ Saturday night out – from her sexy outfit to downing shots & signing boobs

SHE bemoaned her “full on” mummy lifestyle just months before she appeared to confirm she’s split from her husband.

And now Sophie Radford – the eldest daughter of parents-of-22 Sue and Noel Radford – is reportedly single again, she seems to be making up for lost time on the partying front.

The mother-of-three took to her Instagram page to share pictures and videos from the wild night out with her pals on her Stories.

Sophie dressed to impress for the evening out, and showed off her gym-honed figure in a mesh see-through crop top and leather trousers, which she teamed with some tie up heels.

The 31-year-old looked like she was enjoying herself as she posed for snaps with her mate Cerys, who wrote “let’s get feral” over the top of a picture of herself and Sophie.

The alcohol then started flowing, with Sophie posting a video of a tray full of shots.

She also turned “shot girl” as she carried a tray of drinks back to her table, shimmying in delight as she did so.

The drinking continued as Sophie and Cerys downed their shots, before the former got up close and personal with one of her mates.

In a video of her friend sporting some writing on her decolletage, Sophie added: “Had a fan ask for a picture so Georgia made me sign her t**s!”

The evening out concluded with a “pit stop” at McDonald’s on the way home, with Sophie treating herself to a large fries and a double cheeseburger.

The wild festivities came after Sophie broke down in tears as she admitted she was struggling during an episode of the family’s reality show 22 Kids & Counting last August.

During the run-up to her 30th birthday, she reflected on how her life had changed since becoming a mother.

“Usually people in their twenties are out partying, but my twenties were very different, I had three kids, all within a year between them,” she said.

“It’s hard going, it’s definitely hard going. It’s the same routine every day, it’s so full on, all the time.”

The mum also acknowledged that her relationship with husband Joe Broadley had suffered since having children.

“With me and Joe, we used to go out to cinemas, out for meals, go out shopping, do all sorts of things and it all stopped,” she added.

“Because I’ve seen my mum and dad so happy, I do feel like I should be like that as well. However, it’s not for everyone.

Sophie hinted during a Q&A with fans on Instagram in May that her marriage hadn’t worked out.

The Radford Family's TV history

THE first ever episode of 22 Kids and Counting aired on Channel 5 on 22nd February, 2021.

After the first series – which had just four episodes in it – performed well, Channel 5 commissioned a 10-episode second season, which was broadcast in 2022.

They went on to commission a third series, which included a Christmas special aired in December 2023.

The fourth season began airing in January 2024, but fans were left disappointed when it stopped after six episodes.

Sue and Noel reassured viewers that they were just taking a little break, and the next episode will be airing on 21st July.

You can catch up on all previous episodes of 22 Kids and Counting on My 5, here.

Asked by a curious fan if she was single after being married for almost 10 years, Sophie replied: “YES. That’s all that will be said on it.”

Sophie and Joe married in 2015 and have three children together, Daisy Mae, 12, Ayprill Louise, 10, and Leo, nine.

Earlier in the Q&A session, Sophie was asked how she and Joe were.

When they asked, “How are you and Joe?”, Sophie answered: “How are we… TBC. Privacy”.

MAFS star rushes son to A&E after brutal football accident as he shares pics from hospital

A MARRIED At First Sight groom sparked concern among fans after revealing his son had been rushed to hospital.

The parent of one, who appeared in last year’s E4 series, captured youngster Leo with a bandaged head after he received treatment in the medical ward.

Ryan Livesey, who entered the Married At First Sight experiment as an intruder groom, showcased his brave seven-year-old offspring sitting patiently in the Paedeatric Emergency Department.

He had a white bandage taped on the back of his skull with a bloodied wound visible underneath.

Yet despite the drama, the youngster looked content to be playing a game on his hand held console.

The TV star wrote on his Instagram caption: “A&E on a Friday night.

“Leo’s split his head open playing football.”

In the next slide posted to his Instagram Stories, Ryan revealed the wound in full glory.

There were no further updates, suggesting the schoolboy is home and well.

It is his second hospital trip in a matter of months, after he was rushed to hospital in December.

He has previously described Leo as “my world, my purpose, my everything.”

RYAN’S HEALTH ISSUES

Ryan was 22 when he learned he was going to be a dad, back in 2017, when he learned he was going to be a dad.

But his world was turned upside down three months later when he was diagnosed with bladder cancer.

He fought the disease, only for it to return 18 months later.

“Facing all of this at such a young age was the hardest thing I’ve ever been through,” Ryan has said.

He previously opened up to The Sun about how he discovered he had the terrifying disease after wetting the bed.

Mafs couples that have stood the test of time

Loved-up Tayah Victoria and Adam Aveling of series six fame had the first Mafs baby.

The pair couldn’t keep their hands off each other on the programme and quickly found their feet in the outside world, moving into Adam’s Doncaster home.

Just 18 months after meeting, the couple welcomed their daughter Beau.

Season five couple Michelle Walder and Owen Jenkins also managed to make their marriage work away from the cameras and had their first child in December.

Teacher Michelle, 29, has no regrets about taking part in the experiment. She told us: “I just feel very lucky and thankful that it has worked out – and excited for everything to come.”

Michelle and Owen were both sick of dating apps when they applied in 2019.

Owen recalled: “I had been out for some drinks with a friend after work.

“While he was out for a cigarette I was scrolling on Instagram waiting for him to come back in.

“The MAFS advert was the last thing I saw, and I joked, ‘Wouldn’t it be funny if I signed up?’

“A few beers later when I was back at home I sent in the application, and the rest is history.”

Another couple to make Mafs UK history is Zoe Clifton and Jenna Robinson.

Despite a slight rocky start, where they clashed over Jenna’s vegan lifestyle, the show’s first same sex pairing are still going strong.

They even have a successful podcast together called Life With a Pod.

Jenna shed light on being involved in the show earlier this year when she told us: “We’re not legally married, and I never felt like we were. I definitely feel the process makes you take the relationship a lot more seriously and having the help of the experts… if you can survive that process it sets a firm foundation for a long-lasting relationship.”

I started wetting the bed, it was really embarrassing but I put it down to having too much to drink and of course, I didn’t tell anyone and hid it,” Ryan said.

“I’d go to the toilet and not feel like I was emptying my bladder properly.

“I’d have to go again 20 minutes later because I couldn’t hold it in.

He then noticed blood in his urine after a night out a few months later.

Ryan was diagnosed with stage two bladder cancer, making one of the 10,500 people in the UK each year – and 29 per day – to receive this life-changing news.

“I was in complete shock,” Ryan admitted.

Luckily, after two battles with the disease, Ryan is now in remission.
