The quick cleaning task to do NOW to stop moths ‘invading your wardrobe’ and destroying your clothes this summer

HAVE you noticed more moths around than usual over the last few weeks?

Well, it’s completely normal since moths are most active around June and July – but that doesn’t mean you have to put up with them ruining your wardrobe.

There are a few easy tricks to keep moths at bay this summer[/caption]

Moths are actually harmless to humans and are just attracted to light, which is why they find themselves inside at night.

But when they do enter properties some species can damage fabrics and clothing.

Luckily, a pro has shared some top tips for keeping moths at bay – and a simple cleaning task can make a huge difference.

Laurence Barnard, Country Business Manager and pest control specialist at BASF Pest Control Solutions, shared his advice, and it’s perfect for this time of year.

He told Express.co.uk: “Clothes moths are primarily attracted to homes because they find warmth, darkness and access to their preferred food sources – natural fibres such as wool, silk, cashmere and fur.

“Moth larvae feed on keratin, a protein found in these fabrics and are especially drawn to clothing that is dirty or stained with sweat, oils or food.”

He added that moths can often hide in places like wardrobes, storage boxes and drawers as they’re usually undisturbed.

How to prevent moth infestations

The pro suggested keeping clothing storage areas clean, as well as ventilated to keep moths at bay.

Regularly vacuuming is also a must as this will remove moth eggs and larvae.

If you can, pack away seasonal or rarely worn garments into airtight containers to physically stop moths from getting to them.

As for natural repellents, he suggested cedar blocks, lavender sachets or essential oils, which can discourage moths.

However, these repellents should only be used alongside the previous cleaning advice, he added.

Not only that, but clothes should be washed or dry cleaned before storing them away, the pro said.

“Moth larvae are attracted to the sweat, body oils and food stains left on garments,” he said.

With this in mind, it may be a good idea to inspect your clothes for signs of damage.

You can also air them out to keep them fresh, the pro said.

What to do if you do find damage

According to the pro, the best way to deal with damaged clothes due to moths is to wash them in hot water or freezing them as quickly as possible.

Keep pests out all summer

IF you want to ensure that your home is pest free this summer, here's what you need to know.

Hornets and wasps – hate the smell of peppermint oil so spraying this liberally around your patio or balcony can help to keep them at bay.

Moths – acidic household white vinegar is effective for deterring moths. Soak some kitchen roll in vinegar and leave it in your wardrobe as a deterrent.

Flying ants – herbs and spices, such as cinnamon, mint, chilli pepper, black pepper, cayenne pepper, cloves, or garlic act as deterrents.

Mosquitoes – plants, herbs and essential oil fragrances can help deter mozzies inside and out. Try eucalyptus, lavender and lemongrass.

Inspectors BLOCKED from nuke sites as Iran says they will never stop enriching uranium amid fears bomb is ‘months away’

IRAN has blocked inspectors from entering its nuclear sites and pledged to never stop enriching uranium – amid fears the Ayatollah is months away from a bomb.

The mullahs could possess a nuclear weapon in “a matter of months”, the UN’s nuclear watchdog said, adding that US strikes caused severe but “not total” damage.

The International Atomic Energy Agency’s head Rafael Grossi made the bombshell revelation following Donald Trump’s Operation Midnight Hammer.

The Don‘s blitz saw 12 30,000lb bunker busting bombs strike three of Tehran’s nuclear facilities on June 22.

The US President hailed the strikes at the time and said they “obliterated” their targets as planned – despite some claiming the hits were less successful than first thought.

Speaking on the state of Iran’s nuclear facilities after Trump’s strikes, Grossi warned: “The capacities they have are there.

“They can have, you know, in a matter of months, I would say, a few cascades of centrifuges spinning and producing enriched uranium, or less than that.”

He added: “But as I said, frankly speaking, one cannot claim that everything has disappeared and there is nothing there.”

And the watchdog head made the explosive claim that Iran still had “industrial and technological capabilities… so if they so wish, they will be able to start doing this again”.

It comes after a leaked preliminary Pentagon assessment found the US strikes only set the nuclear programme back by a few months.

On Wednesday, Iran’s parliament agreed to suspend all cooperation with the IAEA.

The ban means blocking experts from assessing the true extent of the Israeli and US attacks on nuclear facilities.

And it makes it more challenging to locate any highly enriched uranium Iran may possess which could help them make a nuke.

Iran’s ambassador to the UN Amir-Saeid Iravani told CBS: “I think that enrichment will never stop.

“Our cooperation with IAEA will be suspended.”

It comes after Trump told Fox News on Sunday morning that the US bombs on Iran went through enemy nuclear sites “like absolute butter”.

Celebrating his blitz on the mullahs, he said: “It was obliterated like nobody’s ever seen before.

“And that meant the end to their nuclear ambitions at least for a period of time.”

The war in the Middle East lasted just 12 days as it quickly turned into a major conflict when Trump decided to strike the Iranian nuclear sites.

Iran responded to Trump’s intervention by unsuccessfully striking a US army base in Doha, Qatar – before the Ayatollah claimed victory over America and Israel.

But Tehran contradicted Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei by admitting that Operation Midnight Hammer and the joint Israeli attacks did cause “excessive and serious” damage.

Israel struck Iranian nuclear and military sites on June 13, after Tel Aviv claimed Tehran was dangerously close to developing a nuclear weapon.

The US attacks helped to end the war, according to Trump, with both Israel and Iran quickly declaring they had won the fight afterwards.

Tyrant Khamenei, 86, claimed victory over Israel and America despite his country being hammered for almost two weeks.

The Supreme Leader ludicrously claimed Iran had almost crushed Israel and the government in Tel Aviv was on the verge of collapse.

That’s despite the IDF controlling the skies over Tehran, assassinating dozens of top generals and nuclear scientists, and destroying dozens of valuable missile batteries in just 12 days of fighting.

Even with a ceasefire being agreed upon, Trump made it clear he would “absolutely” consider bombing Iran again if it was ever needed.

He told reporters in the White House he would “without question” attack the country if US intelligence pointed towards Iran enriching uranium to concerning levels.

It comes as Iran held a funeral for the commanders wiped out in the war.

The event was severely plagued by “Death to America” chants and the burning of Israeli flags across the day.

Back in April, Jacqueline, 32, and Dan, 34, escaped the UK for a £380-a-night getaway at the Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya.

Now it seems the EastEnders actress is keen to support her husband publicly as he makes a huge new career move.

The former TOWIE reality star has opened up a new tanning salon in Benfleet, Essex.

Dan took to his Instagram profile to thank his nearest and dearest for attending the launch party of his new establishment.

He posted an album of behind the scenes snaps, one of which showed Jacqueline in a branded t-shirt standing next to her hubby.

The former ITVBe star also posted a video where he guided his fans round each different high-tech booth.

He captioned the album: “Thank you to everyone that came down today for our opening party of @paradiseinbenfleet.

“We will be finally opening Wednesday 2nd July, been a long time coming.”

Jacqueline was one of the first people to write on the post with a one word response.

She wrote: “Congratulations,” with a proud waving arms emoji.

The couple first met in 2013 and tied the knot in 2017, but the relationship has been rocked by cheating allegations against Dan.

In March of this year, The Sun previously revealed that Dan had moved out of the family home he shared with Jacqueline.

He relocated into a property he had bought behind the back of his wife as the duo both temporarily removed their wedding rings.

We then reported how Dan, 33, and fellow reality star Christine, 37, comforted one another amid their marital woes.

Dan later confirmed he was living with a friend, and told Daily Star Sunday: “I’m still staying with a mate. I left because we were arguing and it is such a waste of energy.

“The way I look at life is every day spent unhappy is a wasted day, and we were both having a lot of unhappy days,” he added. “I still obviously care for Jacqueline but if we can’t make each other happy then we shouldn’t stay together. Life is too short.”

June 2018: The couple’s second daughter, Mia, is born.

December 2019: Celebrity Big Brother star Chloe Ayling accuses Dan of having a threesome with her and Natalie Nunn on a boozy night out. Chloe stated in an interview with The Sun that Dan was “making a fool of Jacqueline”.

August 2024: Dan and Jacqueline become victim of a terrifying kidnap plot while they’re on holiday with their daughters. The pair claim £20,000 worth of jewellery and even their girls’ tooth fairy money was stolen.

January 2025: Gabby Allen denies all relationship rumours with Dan and claims they have now completely cut contact, saying she “hopes he and Jacqueline are happy together.”

January 2025: The couple are one again forced to deny split claims, with friends saying they were “upset and hurt” at the allegations after they put their home on the market.

March 2025: The Sun exclusively reveals that Dan has moved out of the home he shares with Jacqueline.

When the couple revealed they planned to part ways, they issued a statement to The Sun on Sunday saying: “Jacqueline and Dan are handling things privately.

Four Irish arrested in Spain after cops smash drugs gang smuggling cocaine & hash hidden in machinery to Ireland & UK

FOUR Irish nationals have been arrested on the Costa Blanca after Spanish cops smashed a drugs gang.

The criminal operation was smuggling cocaine and hash hidden in industrial machinery to Ireland and the UK.

Nearly 85kgs of coke was seized in the operation, as well as two guns.

The cocaine was stashed inside a drilling machine due to be shipped to Dublin by a firm in the town of Monovar, about a 35-minute drive inland from Alicante.

Police sources say another 340kgs of cannabis resin linked to the gang was found at French customs.

It had been sent via a company in the south-eastern Spanish province of Murcia.

Spanish cops are said to have launched the probe on June 2 after a transport firm based in Murcia reported the arrest of one of its drivers in France a few days earlier.

He was lifted following the discovery of the cannabis resin hidden on his lorry, bound for Liverpool.

A Murcia court authorised detectives to put trackers on the company’s vehicles.

And cops were monitoring as one of the four suspects dropped off the industrial drilling machine due to be shipped to Dublin.

Police then discovered the cocaine inside, which they removed before allowing the shipment be sent to Ireland on June 13 so Gardai could try to identify the people receiving the delivery.

Spanish cops then swooped, lifting the four Irish nationals across the Costa Blanca.

The suspects, who have not been named, were freed on bail after appearing in court.

Cops have yet to make any official comment amid the ongoing criminal probe.

But further arrests have not been ruled out.

In March a Spanish-Irish investigation into the Dublin gang known as The Family resulted in the seizure of around €30million of drugs and the arrests of 20 people.

They hid the narcotics in vehicles that were fitted out with secret compartments.

Race for Aras heats up as ex-TD throws hat in to become President of Ireland despite possible ballot battle with Bertie

EX-MINISTER Mary Hanafin wants to become President of Ireland and has thrown her hat in the ring to become Fianna Fail’s candidate.

However, the Fianna Fail stalwart will face a battle to get on the ballot as she faces competition from another ex-Minister and possibly even a former Taoiseach.

With just four months left before an election has to be held, the race for the Aras is finally starting to heat up as wannabe Presidents seek to secure a nomination.

Political parties are purposely leaving it late to declare their candidates due to fears that a lengthy Presidential election campaign could get dirty.

Former Fianna Fail Minister Mary Hanafin today openly declared her desire to run for the Presidency as she looks to secure the nomination from her party.

She told RTE: “Yes I’d love the opportunity. I’d love the opportunity to be a Fianna Fail candidate and I’d love to bring my experience in public service and law into the job of President which is the most important job in the country.

“I’m sorry to see so many people ruling themselves out. I think the public at this stage know who doesn’t want to run but they don’t know who does want to run and maybe the time is now to start that.”

The ex-Dun Laoghaire TD served in the Dail from 1997 to 2011 when she lost her seat in an election that crushed Fianna Fail in the aftermath of the financial crash.

She served as a Minister in a host of departments during her time in the Dail including Education, Social Affairs, Tourism and Sport, and Enterprise.

Asked why she thinks she should be President, Mary Hanafin said: “I would like to bring 30 years of public service at local and national level to the job where I’ve worked very closely with individuals and with communities.

“I believe it is in the first instance a constitutional role. It’s set out in the constitution. You take an oath to the service and the welfare of people which I would like to bring.”

It’s understood that Mary Hanafin has already spoken with Fianna Fail leader Micheal Martin about her interest in becoming Fianna Fail’s candidate in the election.

This open declaration of interest today from Mary Hanafin will likely fire the starting gun for other wannabe candidates for the election.

MORE CANDIDATES

Reports over the weekend suggest that former Limerick TD Peter Power has also held discussions with Fianna Fail’s leadership team about possibly throwing his hat in the ring for the Aras.

The Limerick man served in Government from 2002 to 2011 and was a junior Minister in the Department of Foreign Affairs.

He has since ran the Unicef Ireland charity as Executive Director.

Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern openly flirted with the idea of running as President by not ruling out the prospect during several media interviews.

However, it’s understood that several senior figures within Fianna Fail are against the idea of Bertie becoming the party’s candidate as his past problems will be dragged up during the campaign.

Current MEP Cynthia Ni Mhurcu has also been talked about in political circles as a potential candidate while her colleague in Brussels Barry Andrews recently ruled himself out as a runner.

Robbie Brennan hails ‘genius’ Jordan Morris as Meath stun Galway to reach All-Ireland semi-final

Robbie Brennan hailed the ‘genius’ of Jordan Morris as Meath pulled off yet another massive Championship shock.

Rewind back to April and there were many nervous Meath fans in Navan before their Leinster SFC game against Offaly.

Meath manager Robbie Brennan has special praise for the player after the triumph at GAA HQ

But a couple of months on the Royals are just one win from a first All-Ireland final appearance in nearly a quarter of a century.

In any other season they’d probably have the Sam Maguire Cup already tucked away after beating Division 1 heavyweights Dublin, Kerry and now Galway.

They could yet reach that Holy Grail too because they keep making fools of anyone who dares to write them off.

And in Morris they have a player in All-Star form with the capacity to punish the very best defences.

He blasted 1-6 from play and showed all his quality in the crucial last 10 minutes as the underdogs turned the screw.

It looked like the Championship’s dark horses had run their race when Galway reeled off 2-3 without response at the start of the final quarter.

The Connacht champions showed all their experience and big-game quality during that spell of supremacy with goals from Cillian McDaid and Liam Silke.

But their dream of going one better than the 2022 and 2024 final defeats was dashed by a remarkable Meath finale.

And Morris was at the hub of it with 1-2 from the Kingscourt clubman in the closing eight minutes alone.

Goalscorer Conor Gray had a big impact when he came on too while the fit again Mathew Costello showed all his class.

And there were huge displays from Ruairi Kinsella, Donal Keogan, Sean Rafferty and Bryan Menton too.

But Morris conjured the magic that dragged once mighty Meath back to a first semi-final in 15 years.

Boss Brennan said: “I keep saying to people, there’s a touch of genius about Jordan. I’ve referenced before the likes of Shane Walsh for Galway, who was out there playing, and maybe Paul Mannion too having worked with these guys.

“But Jordan is absolutely in that category. He is impossible to mark at times, literally impossible to mark.

“At other times he might have a turnover and lose the ball but they’re what we call creative turnovers. You’re allowed to have them when you’re that type of player.

“Even at half-time, I spoke to Jordan. We were saying, ‘Keep on trying for it, keep on trying it’ because we knew what he has, that ability, and we knew it would come good for him eventually.

“And he showed it in the second-half there. He’s just unreal. He can’t be stopped when he’s in form like that.”

Brennan has brought vital belief to a Meath side that struggled badly under Colm O’Rourke last year.

They played five Championship games in 2024 and lost the last four. Dublin and Kerry hammered them last year and Monaghan knocked them out of the Championship.

But all of those teams have been eliminated from this year’s race for Sam while Meath are still standing.

Brennan threw it back on the players and said their stunning form and huge fitness reserves have made it possible, claiming Rafferty and Kinsella are certain All-Stars.

Brennan beamed: “We backed our fitness. I knew we’d run all day with the work that David Drake and the S&C lads had done with them. I knew we could keep going no matter what the temperature, the humidity, that they’d be able to just keep going and going and going.

“And then we had a brilliant impact off the bench as well. So all round I think a top-notch performance.”

Even Brennan would accept that Meath made mistakes though, particularly in the first-half.

Costello spilled a routine possession, gifting the ball back to Galway, and Ciaran Caulfield kicked a free straight out over the sideline.

But Meath were still more direct and attack-minded whilst Galway seemed to want to slow up the play.

Galway finished the half strongly to lead 0-7 to 0-6 at the interval before returning to Meath’s slipstream throughout the third quarter.

Costello and Morris split five points between them after the restart before Gray capped a speedy breakaway with Meath’s first goal.

Galway felt Daniel O’Flaherty was fouled but Martin McNally waved play on and Sean Coffey kick-passed long to Gray who barrelled through the defence before netting.

Morris thumped the air in delight as Meath roared 1-12 to 0-9 clear but their six-point lead was a short lived thing.

Walsh drilled a two-pointer for Galway. Then Rob Finnerty played in McDaid for a Galway goal and Silke grabbed another four minutes later.

Suddenly, Meath trailed by 1-12 to 2-12 and looked to have succumbed to Galway’s quality and big-game experience.

But the last Leinster team left in the Championship had stored up one final kick for the last lap of an incredible race.

Lionel Messi left shell-shocked as Inter Miami THUMPED by old team PSG in front of owner David Beckham at Club World Cup

LIONEL MESSI was left shell-shocked in front of Inter Miami owner David Beckham at the Club World Cup.

Messi saw himself 4-0 down at half-time against his former side Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

Joao Neves scored the first two goals, heading home unmarked inside six minutes before finishing off a lovely team move in the 39th minute.

And Inter Miami’s naive hopes of a miracle were soon dashed when Tomas Aviles‘ own goal saw the MLS side capitulate on the stroke of half-time.

Meanwhile, Achraf Hakimi piled on the misery in the third minute of first-half injury time.

As the Moroccan full-back, widely regarded as the best in the world in his position was celebrating, Messi looked up to the scoreboard in complete disbelief.

And while Beckham was celebrating his former club’s Champions League win in Germany last month, he looked more stern during the battering while wearing his arm in a sling.

The Argentine footie legend, 38, was sent a brutal warning by the French press ahead of his reunion with PSG.

French newspaper L’Equipe plastered a picture of Messi on the front page with the tagline: “Messi… not all is forgiven.”

The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner left PSG in 2023 on a free transfer once his contract in the French capital expired.
