Rock star devastated as he’s diagnosed with ‘very aggressive’ cancer and shares snap from hospital bed

ROCK star David Roach has shared a brave photo from his hospital bed after being diagnosed with a “very aggressive” form of cancer.

David, who is the lead singer of heavy metal band Junkyard, received the shock diagnosis after falling ill with a “fever and cough”.

The musician and his fiancée Jennifer say their world has been “shattered” by the news and are now fundraising to pay for his medical bills.

Jennifer has had to give up her job to become David’s full-time care-giver while he receives treatment.

In an emotional Instagram post that was shared by Junkyard, Jennifer thanked fans for their support during the “challenging time”.

She added, “We wish we could respond to each of you, but honestly, there are no words right now. We’re still struggling to process the news we received on Tuesday.

“After David’s ongoing fever and cough led us to the ER, we got results that have completely shattered our world. It’s devastating and life-altering, and we’re trying to navigate through the emotions and uncertainty that come with it.

“David is showing such incredible strength and resilience, and even in the midst of this darkness, he’s still managing to keep his sense of humor. It’s a reminder of how amazing he is.

“But we know this journey ahead will be extremely tough, David made it clear he is not giving up hope and we’re going to need all of your love and prayers.

“Thank you for standing by us. Your kindness and support mean everything to us. Please keep David in your thoughts as we take this one step at a time.”

A photo accompanying the message shows David in a gown while lying in a hospital bed and hooked up to oxygen.

Replying, one follower said, “Sending love, healing vibes and prayers your way, David.”

Another added, “All the best mate. Literally one of my all time favourite bands that I put on once a week since their debut release.”

A third wrote, “We’re rooting for you all. Stay strong.”

And a fourth penned, “Hang tough, Roach! Praying for ya!”

David has provided lead vocals for Junkyard ever since the band was formed in 1987.

The group disbanded five years later before reforming in 2000.

The current line-up also features OG member Patrick Muzingo on drums, Todd Muscat on bass and Tim Mosher and Jimmy James on guitar.

Junkyard is now rallying round and doing all they can to raise money for David’s hospital treatment.

The band has launched a GoFundMe while also confirming David has squamous cell carcinoma, which is “affecting his head, neck, and throat”.

What is Squamous cell carcinoma

Squamous cell carcinoma is a form of skin cancer that starts in cells called squamous cells.

It is not usually life-threatening but, if left untreated, it can spread to other areas of the body.

According to Mayo Clinic, most squamous cell carcinomas of the skin are caused by too much ultraviolet (UV) radiation.

UV radiation comes from sunlight, sun beds and lamps.

Symptoms can include: A firm bump on the skin, called a nodule. The nodule might be the same color as the skin, or it might look different. It can look pink, red, black or brown, depending on skin color.

A flat sore with a scaly crust, or a new sore or raised area on an old scar or sore.

A rough, scaly patch on the lip that may become an open sore, or a sore or rough patch inside the mouth.

A raised patch or wartlike sore on or in the anus or on the genitals.

Mayo Clinic advises people should see a doctor if a sore or scab doesn’t heal in about two months or if a flat patch of scaly skin doesn’t go away.

They wrote: “As many of you know, David who is a friend to all is in the fight of his life battling aggressive squamous cell carcinoma affecting his head, neck, and throat.

“Currently David requires around the clock care and supervision. David’s fiancée Jennifer has had to step away from traditional employment to become his full time care giver.

“While they have applied for disability and full time caregivers assistance it is an extremely long waiting period to go through the processing and receive approval. This has put them in a dire situation.

“This has been a devastating blow for David especially after he finally found happiness, stability, and things were going well for him.”

At the time of publication, the total raised was almost $28,000.

Country singer Nicholas Mich has also performed a Benefit Live Stream Concert on Facebook to raise cash for David’s fund.

She found two dream dresses and took them home for just £169[/caption]

But one bride-to-be has revealed how she managed to save thousands by getting a second-hand wedding dress.

Emi, who is from the UK but currently lives in Australia working as a make-up artist, went hunting for her dream dress in the charity shops.

And it seemed it was her lucky day as she didn’t just find one dress that fit like a glove, she found two.

Emi walked into the shop and found a stunning fitted sparkly number with a mermaid tail.

She decided to try it on and was stunned to see it was the perfect size.

“WTF, fit me like a glove,” she said.

Emi took the dress to the cash register immediately, where she paid just £109 for it.

But Emi’s good luck wasn’t running out; she then headed to another store where she spotted another bridal gown on sale.

The gorgeous gown featured a square neckline and an A-line full skirt in a satin material.

The best part? It was being sold for £60.

Emi tried the second dress on and yet again, it was the perfect fit

It might have had a couple of stains on the back but Emi was eager to bring it home.

She added: “I looked him up when I got home that day. So gutted to see he passed on. But beyond stoked, it belongs to me now.

“The style is also in line with what I envisioned would be my dream gown. How it ended up in Australia – I’d love to know!”

The clip quickly went viral on her TikTok account @byemmeline with over 1 million views and 100k likes.

People were quick to take to the comments in awe of her budget-friendly dresses.

Average cost of a wedding in 2025

Recent research by Hodge reveals the dream of getting married can come with a hefty price tag, reaching more than £20,000.

One person wrote: “Ian Stuart was a big name in bridalwear for more than 20 years. Some of his gowns were £4k +. Unfortunately, he passed away a few years ago, so the label no longer exists. You’ve found a real treasure!”

Another commented: “Got both of my wedding dresses from charity shops and recommend it to anyone!”

“Now you have a day dress and an evening one,” penned a third.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “Omg you scored, and these will be stunning on you!!”

“The way I GASPED at both,” claimed a fifth

Someone else added: “When the Universe wants you to get married no matter what! Both of them are just wow!”

Expert reveals 2 types of dogs that are most prone to sunburn – & warns about ‘toxic’ sunscreens you CANNOT use on them

WE’RE heading into the hottest day of the year so far – with scorching temperatures across Britain set to push over 30C.

The Met Office says some parts of the UK could exceed 35C after thousands of Brits flocked to beaches over the weekend to soak up the summer rays.

Our adorable pooches can quickly overheat in the sun, whether that’s on a walk or simply sunbathing in the garden[/caption]

But it is important not to forget about our four-legged pals when it comes to hot weather.

Our adorable pooches can quickly overheat in the sun, whether that’s on a walk or simply sunbathing in the garden.

Veterinary surgeon Dr Scott has now revealed which two types of dogs are most susceptible to sunburn – and the sunscreen that’s ”toxic” to pets.

Chatting to This Morning’s Ben Shephard, the expert warned that those most prone to burning in the harsh sun are dogs with bald patches and lighter-coloured pooches, such as Golden Retrievers.

He went on: ”Just be careful using any kind of sunscreen that’s got zinc oxide – it’s toxix.

”So you definitely need to get a pet sunscreen.”

Pet owners can find a range of affordable options suiting every budget from places like Amazon for as little as £5.

If your lovely family friend has been outside for too long and has developed a sunburn, the whizz advised to use a cold compress.

However, if your pet has got a really bad sunburn – which can lead to a nasty infection – it’s strongly advised to immediately take the pooch to a vet.

”Most of the time, it’s just a little bit red – cold compress and of course, bring them indoors.”

What should we avoid doing with our pets in the heatwave?

The expert previously shared more tips and advice – that’s likely to come in handy this week, with temperatures set to reach 35C.

Here’s what Dr Scott advised pet owners to do to keep their dogs safe during a heatwave.

  • It is not recommended to travel with your pet during hot weather days.
  • Never leave your pet in the car with no air flow, even opening the window slightly will still create an uncomfortable environment for them in the heat.
  • If you do need to travel with a pet, make sure to open two windows or have the air conditioning on. Try to avoid public transport such as trains, as these can get very hot and uncomfortable for animals.

More summer risks to dogs

EXPERTS are warning pet owners to be vigilant when it comes to taking their dogs out this summer - especially when it comes to taking them to the beach.

Dr Rebecca MacMillan says it is important that dog parents are well prepped to ensure a safe trip away with their dog.

From consumption of salt water, to open holes, the Gloucestershire-based vet says there are hidden hazards to look out for.

Angela Laws, who is head of community at British pet-sitting platform TrustHousesitters, also urges pet owners to “prioritise safety” and to “be aware of potential hazards.”

Preventing injuries

Large holes can be hidden amongst the sand, which can cause injury if your dog trips or falls into it.

Dr Rebecca is warning pet owners, as if you are playing fetch with them, your dog might not be “expecting a hole” as they are running, which can cause them to fall and injure themselves.

Talking to the Femail, Dr Rebecca also wanted to be mindful of other beach-going pets if you and your dog choose to dig a hole and to fill it back up before heading off.

Food for thought

Although you would never dream of drinking the water from the sea, your pets may view it as a large bowl of water for them.

However, seawater consumption is extremely dangerous for your dogs according to Dr Rebecca.

Drinking saltwater can disrupt the “balance of electrolyte in the body and cause dehydration,” according to Rebecca.

This is also the case for sand as too much sand can cause a painful obstruction, “which may require surgery.”

Check the temperature

Just like humans, pets can get heat stroke too.

It is most likely to occur when the body’s temperature rises above 36C and hits 40C.

Dr Rebbeca suggests caution when the weather outside hits 25C, and especially if it’s over 27C.

She also warned pet owners to do their research on the type of breed of their dog, as some will be much more “prone to heatstroke.”

Dr Rebecca says these dogs include flat-faced dogs like pugs and bulldogs, and large breeds with thick coats.

She urges dog parents to make sure their pet is well hydrated, try to keep them in the shade and remember to be aware of their paws burning on the ground.

Digging dangers

Dr Rebecca there could be anything from discarded BBQ’s with hot coals, to broken glass or sharp objects.

She said: “If your pooch is prone to digging, make sure you’re nearby in case of any unexpected finds.”

Dr Scott’s top tips for keeping your pets cool

As much as we may love walking to get those extra steps in, the hot weather may be too much for our pets.

When taking your four-legged pal out for a walk, watch out for how warm the pavement is.

If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.

Any time your pet is outside, make sure they have protection from the sun and plenty of shade (avoid walking dogs in the middle of the day when it is usually hottest).

Tree shade is ideal because it doesn’t obstruct air flow. A doghouse does not provide relief from heat – in fact, it makes it worse.

Whip up a batch of quick and easy DIY ‘pup-sicles’ for dogs.

Apply ice packs or cold towels to their head, neck and chest or run cool – not cold water over them.

Trim longer hair on your dog, but never shave your dog – the layers of dogs’ coats protect them from overheating and sunburn.

Gogglebox’s Amy Tapper looks slimmer than ever as she shows off 6st weight loss in floral dress at wedding

GOGGLEBOX favourite Amy Tapper looked absolutely incredible this weekend as she joined loved ones for a wedding.

The 25-year-old, who revealed in April she has lost six stone in a lifestyle overhaul, stunned in a baby blue floral dress as she joined her family for the event.

Showing off her new figure, Amy posed alongside friends and her sister-in-law, Hannah, as she spent the weekend at a fancy country estate with the sun out for the big day.

Wearing her curly brown hair in a loose up-do, Amy couldn’t stop smiling and looked happier than ever.

She later shared pictures of the bride and groom, saying the pair had “put a ring on it”.

Amy has been sharing her weight-loss journey on her Instagram account, and in April posted a video of her in tears as she stepped on scales and realised she’d achieved a six-stone weight loss goal.

After deciding to focus on her health and wellbeing, Amy – who is famed for spending nights in on the sofa with her family for Gogglebox – decided to hire a personal trainer to help her switch up her lifestyle.

Amy was on Gogglebox from 2013 to 2018 alongside her mum and dad, Nikki and Jonathan, as well as her brother Josh. The family remain standout stars from the show’s run.

However, Amy found herself and her loved ones becoming increasingly targeted by online trolls about her weight.

“My dad and I would both get nasty comments about our weight and I’d also get people criticising my voice for being too loud,’ she told Daily Mail in 2022.

“It was quite upsetting. There were people on Twitter calling us ‘the fat family from Gogglebox’ but my mum and my brother have never had any problems with their weight.”

Over the past three years, Amy has been growing in confidence as she embraced her curvy figure while also finding exercise she enjoys.

Through her social media updates, Amy has revealed a love of boxing exercises as well as a close bond with Tash, the trainer who has helped her turn her life around.

At the end of last year, Amy shared that she had lost “the most amount of weight of her life” and said: “My head space going into 2025 compared to 2024 is incomparable and I’m so proud of everything I’ve achieved this year.”

Since then, she has been keeping it up, posting life updates from family events as well as her continued weight loss journey.

In April, a video taken in her living room saw her break down in tears after stepping on the scale.

She wrote alongside it: “Wow wow wow 6 stone down!! I cannot believe it – I am so proud of myself… I promise I will share more of my journey soon there’s just so much to say I’m figuring out my best way to do it. Here’s to the next stone and more😍❤

“@tashelite.fitness you are not only my personal trainer but truly a friend and more like a therapist – I couldn’t do any of this without you and your ongoing support, thank you for everything”

Why does the Wimbledon trophy have a pineapple on the top?

WINNING Wimbledon is one of the greatest feats a tennis player can achieve, with the men’s champion presented with a spectacular trophy.

Here we take a look at the history of the cup presented to the Gentlemen’s Singles champion and why there’s a pineapple at its peak.

Carlos Alcaraz won Wimbledon in 2023 and 2024

Sunday Times
He defeated tennis GOAT Novak Djokovic to lift the Trophy on both occasions[/caption]

The Wimbledon Gentlemen’s Singles Trophy is one of the most iconic prizes in the world of sport, instantly recognisable by its elegant design and the somewhat curious pineapple ornament perched on top of its lid.

The trophy itself was first introduced in 1887, replacing earlier incarnations that had been permanently won by players after consecutive championship triumphs.

Crafted by the prestigious silversmith firm Elkington & Co., the trophy stands 18 inches tall and weighs approximately three and a half kilograms.

It is made of silver gilt and bears the inscription: “The All England Lawn Tennis Club Single Handed Championship of the World.”

Champions receive a three-quarter size replica of the cup instead of the real thing, which is kept at SW19 throughout the year.

But it’s the pineapple pinnacle that draws the most attention and curiosity.

To understand why this particular fruit was chosen, it helps to consider the cultural context of the late 19th century.

During the Victorian era, pineapples were not the common fruit we know today.

Instead, they were rare, exotic and expensive, often imported at great cost from tropical regions.

Because of their scarcity and the difficulty involved in cultivating them in Europe, pineapples became a symbol of wealth and luxury.

They were often used as decorative motifs in architecture, furniture and silverware to convey status and welcome.

Displaying a pineapple was a way to show generosity and high social standing.

It was associated with warmth and hospitality, signalling to guests that they were honoured and valued.

This symbolism made the pineapple an ideal emblem to adorn the Wimbledon trophy, which represents not only sporting excellence, but also the prestige and tradition of the All England Club.

Nobody is one-hundred percent sure why the trophy features the pineapple.

But a spokesperson for the Wimbledon Museum backed up this theory: “In the 17th century pineapples were impossible to grow in the UK and they had to be imported, so being presented with one at a feast was seen as a great compliment.

“You might have seen pineapples being used on gateposts of stately homes as you travel around the UK. It’s because of their rarity.”

So while no official record explicitly states why the pineapple was chosen for the Wimbledon trophy, historians widely accept that its inclusion was meant to reflect these values of exclusivity and graciousness.

HOME Bargains is working hard this year to ensure your home is bug-free this summer, with a cheap new homeware essential.

After experts announced the forthcoming Flying Ant Day could be one of the biggest in recent years, here’s everything you need to know about Home Bargains latest must-have.

Flying Ant Day is fast approaching, here’s how to stop them getting in your home[/caption]

Although the British weather is never that predictable, the recent weeks of high heat have left many feeling a bit flustered.

To stay cool, it is often recommended to ensure there is a enough airflow throughout the home.

However, with the impending Flying Ant Day, opening all the windows and doors to get some air in also means pesky insects have been given an invitation to infiltrate your home.

But Home Bargains has fixed the conundrum with their latest must-have.

Their affordable Jardin Magnetic Insect Door Screen is a kitchen essential that will prevent bugs from infesting your home.

Cheap trick to keep your home pest free

The budget-friendly retailer has solved one of summer’s biggest stumbling blocks – bugs.

For only £3.99 its new insect door screen allows homeowners to be able to open doors and let the air in while keeping the pesky bugs out.

The magnetic closing technology creates a sleek and easy user experience and is secure enough to stop even the most persistent pests.

It is a breeze to install, as it requires no tools, meaning it can be put up without a second thought, and at that price, it’s almost a no-brainer.

What’s more, while the weather is making us feel like we’re on the continent, why not transport your home there too with it’s sleek Spanish inspired design.

The lace detail, coupled with the black colouring, reflects a sense of the Iberian style and makes it both fashionable and functional.

Biggest flying ant day in recent memory

Homeowners are pulling out all the stops to keep insects out this summer, as experts suggest this could be the biggest Flying Ant Day in recent memory.

Many ants crawling on a kitchen counter.

Flying Ant Day is the annual mating flight of millions of ants, when they fly through the skies in synchronised displays.

While this may sound like a sight to behold, it’s never nice to have the little insects crawling around your home.

There are various ways to help keep the pests at bay, but when coupled with Home Bargains’ new affordable solution, it’s hard to think how the bugs will be able to get in.

What’s more unlike some chemical options, this screen does not cause the ants harm, and so it is the perfect solution.

Paul Blackhurst, Head of the Technical Academy at Rentokil Pest Control, explained: “While flying ants may disrupt your picnic, barbeque, or pub garden pint, they play a vital role in the ecosystem.

“This natural event, when vast numbers of winged ants, known as alates, take to the skies at once in search of mates from other colonies, could be one of the most prolific for years.”

The attraction features a number of treehouses that are connected by suspended nets, seven metres in the air.

Visitors can crawl through tunnels, cross rope bridges and enjoy a trampoline area at the attraction too.

Families on the course can also use TAG Active technology which allows guests to ‘tag’ beacons around the course and play TAG games such as treasure hunts in their hour-session.

Sarah Deverill, village director at Center Parcs, said: “We’re thrilled to launch our first-ever Adventure Nets attraction which will allow kids to connect with nature in a daring way, building their confidence and sense of adventure immersed amongst the stunning redwood at Longleat Forest.

“Our team have worked around the clock to ensure the experience is ready to welcome families to bounce, climb and laugh their way through the treetops this summer.”

The Adventure Nets are available to pre-book for all Longleat Forest guests and is open to children aged three and older.

In total, each session is 70-minutes long – which includes a 10-minute safety briefing, followed by 60-minutes of play.

Center Parcs’ site at Longleat Forest is located within an ancient woodland.

The park has multiple activities on offer, including a themed gold adventure and escape rooms.

There are also a number of restaurants at the site.

For those looking for a bit of R&R, there is the Aqua Sana Forest Spa – boasting 24 spa experiences including the ‘Forest Cavern’ and the ‘Moonlight Steam Room’.

One recent visitor said: “A beautiful setting and fun-packed few days, we didn’t want to leave!

“The lodge was clean and comfortable, staff super-friendly, and choice of things to do varied, but the swimming pool was the best!”

Center Parcs also recently revealed the plans for its first Scotland site.
