The cheapest shop to buy Quality Street tubs this week as retailer slashes price of Nestle favourite

A MAJOR UK supermarket has slashed the price of Quality Street chocolates and they’re the cheapest around.

Iceland has dropped the cost of its 600g tub from £6 to £3 giving shoppers a 50% discount.

Iceland has dropped the price of its 600g tub of Quality Street to £3

Bargain hunters can bag themselves the cut-price container on Iceland‘s website.

But make sure you factor in the cost of delivery, with charges starting from around £3.

Iceland slashing the price of the Quality Street 600g tub makes it the cheapest option to buy it out of all the major supermarkets too.

Tesco is selling the box for £6 while Ocado was selling the container for the same price but it’s no longer in stock.

Bear in mind, we have only checked how much the major supermarket chains are selling the tub for and you might find it cheaper elsewhere.

You can use websites like Trolley and Price Spy to compare prices on thousands of products including chocolates.

Or, you can use the Google Shopping/Product tab to trawl the internet and see how much retailers are selling a particular product for.

The latest deal from Iceland comes after Aldi shoppers were left rushing to one branch after spotting Quality Street chocs on the cheap.

The German discounter was flogging the 300g pouches for 49p down from £1.99 – a 75% discount.

Bargain hunters were quick to comment on a post on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group flagging the deal.

One shopper reacting to the find said: “Lovely bargain. Yum yum!”

A third shopper said: “I paid £1.99 on Tuesday gutted…”

A fourth added: “Not had any in ours for months.”

QUALITY STREET NEWS

Festive-themed chocolates have been shrinking in size as manufacturers face mounting costs.

Celebrations, Roses and Quality Street have all shrunk in recent years, but prices have either stayed the same or gone up.

The weight of the tubs has been lowered by as much as 50g, with the cost going up as much as 50p.

Meanwhile, Nestlé recently faced criticism after being accused of shrinking the size of the iconic Purple One chocolate.

The maker of Quality Street later confirmed it had reduced the size of the much-loved hazelnut-filled treat by over 10%, sparking outrage among loyal customers.

Nestlé previously stirred controversy by altering the iconic Brazil nut-shaped design of the caramel treat, replacing it with a circular swirl.

However, fans also picked up on a change in size, with one even weighing both versions to calculate the extent of the “shrinkflation.”

Originally, the chocolate weighed 9.6 grams, but the new version tipped the scales at just 8.4 grams – a reduction of 12%.

Quality Street lover Rebecca Gracey fumed online: “Half of the appeal of Quality Street is/was aesthetic.

“Changing the shape and size of much loved favourites is sacrilege.

“I’ve never forgiven Nestlè for changing the diamond of fudge into a most uninteresting shape.

“However, the final straw was changing the shiny cellophane and foil wrappers to dull waxed paper.

“I have not purchased them since that abomination.”

How to save money on chocolate

We all love a bit of chocolate from now and then, but you don't have to break the bank buying your favourite bar.

Consumer reporter Sam Walker reveals how to cut costs…

Go own brand – if you’re not too fussed about flavour and just want to supplant your chocolate cravings, you’ll save by going for the supermarket’s own brand bars.

Shop around – if you’ve spotted your favourite variety at the supermarket, make sure you check if it’s cheaper elsewhere.

Websites like Trolley.co.uk let you compare prices on products across all the major chains to see if you’re getting the best deal.

Look out for yellow stickers – supermarket staff put yellow, and sometimes orange and red, stickers on to products to show they’ve been reduced.

They usually do this if the product is coming to the end of its best-before date or the packaging is slightly damaged.

Buy bigger bars – most of the time, but not always, chocolate is cheaper per 100g the larger the bar.

So if you’ve got the appetite, and you were going to buy a hefty amount of chocolate anyway, you might as well go bigger.

Docs said my hubby couldn’t walk down the aisle after footy injury but the heartbreaking news started our £100m business

WHEN Liv Ferdi, 35, was told her fiancé would be on crutches and non-ambulatory on their big day, her heart shattered.

The couple wouldn’t even be able to walk down the aisle together after saying ‘I do’, let alone have a first dance in front of their nearest and dearest.

The couple turned their misfortune into a lucrative business idea… and now they’re CBD industry leaders[/caption]

Dan Khoury, 37, had suffered a debilitating injury during Sunday morning football, which saw him tear his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), one of the key connective tissues in the knee that helps stabilise it.

Widely touted as the worst injury you can get from playing football, Dan needed intense knee surgery just weeks before their wedding in 2018.

After the operation, he was to be on strict bed rest with metal poles in his leg and only moving around for short periods of time with the help of crutches.

It was this crisis that inadvertently led them to set up Trip, the UK’s leading CBD brand that’s on a mission to make drinks infused with cannabidiol truly mainstream.

“We were going to tuxedo and wedding dress fittings and the staff were like ‘I don’t know what you expect us to do, we can’t fit a tuxedo over his leg’,” Liv recalls for Fabulous‘ exclusive series, Bossing It.

The couple, who are teenage sweethearts, weren’t ready to give up on their dream wedding.

They began desperately researching ways to speed up Dan’s recovery – and that’s when they stumbled upon CBD after being told about it by a family friend based in the US.

CBD (officially known as cannabidiol) is a chemical found naturally in cannabis plants, which can be extracted via steam distillation and transformed into many forms, including oils and capsules.

Its benefits are widely touted: it is scientifically proven to alleviate stress and muscle aches, as well as aid sleep and even relieve the side effects of cancer treatment.

Despite being derived from cannabis plants, it is non-psychoactive, doesn’t cause a high and you can’t become addicted to it.

Dan ordered a bottle of CBD oil from the internet and began consuming it every day after his knee operation, as well as rubbing it topically on the injured area.

The product not only reduced swelling, but eased his pain and helped him sleep easier, which is key for recovering after such an intense injury.

Amazingly, Dan was up and walking seven weeks after his ACL surgery, which is half of what the NHS estimates it can take.

“We surprised everyone by not having to cancel our wedding,” Liv says. “Dan wasn’t just hobbling down the aisle either, he danced the night away with no pain. It was bonkers.”

Where to buy Trip drinks

Trip products are sold in Sainsbury's, Co-op, Morrisons, Asda, Superdrug, Holland & Barret and Boots. You can also purchase directly from the brand's website.

Against all odds, he was the last man standing on the dancefloor that night.

This mini miracle is what led the newlyweds Liv and Dan to found Trip, which is famed for its flagship fizzy drinks infused with CBD oil and other stress-busting ingredients.

You might have seen the drinks in your local supermarket – they come in pretty pastel cans with a ‘peace up’ sign on the front.

This girly design is deliberate, says Liv.

Back in the day, CBD oil was super hard to understand. It looked illicit. The bottles covered in green leaves, or pictures of dragons or monkeys

Liv Ferdi

“I started taking CBD drops after Dan,” she explains. “But back in the day, the oil was super hard to understand – it was brown liquid, in brown bottles, with a horrible earthy taste.

“The taste would stay in your mouth like all day and was not something I could have on my desk or talk to people about.

“It looked illicit. They were covered in green leaves, or pictures of dragons or monkeys.”

The pair realised that there was an opportunity to bring CBD into the mainstream, in a way that didn’t feel intimidating for someone to dip their toe in.

Trip launched in September 2019 and soon became the fastest growing food and beverage company in the UK over the last 16 years[/caption]

“Three months after the wedding, we told our parents as newlyweds that we’re going to do something in this space,” Liv recalls.

“We told them that we’re going to make a drink with these ingredients and it’s going to change how people feel – and we’re going to help people feel calmer, less stressed and happier.”

Liv and Dan pumped all of their life savings into Trip to get it off the ground.

Over the course of the first year, they injected around £25,000 into the dream – and didn’t even pay themselves a wage.

Do I feel like I’m bossing it? I’m definitely making it up as I go along

Liv Ferdi

“We had a bit of savings from our careers, which were corporate, fairly well paid city careers,” Liv explains.

“We started everything quite small, so we had to find the one person that would make our product on the smallest possible run of 10,000 cans initially.”

She designed the can on the back of an envelope one afternoon and then found a local designer who could bring it to life.

The brand launched in September 2019 and soon became the fastest growing food and beverage company in the UK over the last 16 years.

By October, Trip secured a listing with Planet Organic and began negotiations with Selfridges.

This was the push that Liv needed to pause her legal career, following the suit of Dan who had already left his finance job.

They soon expanded the range from just single-serve drinks to a line of CBD oils.

When the pandemic hit in March 2020, demand rocketed and Trip’s direct-to-consumer sales rose by 420% in the space of a month.

We’re not here to tell you how to live your life, or here to tell you how to spend your time. We’re just trying to give out one billion moments of calm

Liv Ferdi

Trip raised £10 million in venture capital in 2022, and passed sales of £20 million in the year to February 2024.

The brand is yet to file full accounts at Companies House for its last financial year, but annual revenues are understood to be in excess of £20 million, according to The Grocer.

The most recent valuation of the company sits above £100 million, with Liv and Dan’s mission to deliver “one billion people a moment of calm”.

This is partly thanks to Trip’s latest release of Mindful Blends drinks.

Trip’s new Mindful Blends drinks went viral on social media at the start of 2025[/caption]

These drinks have gone viral on social media at the start of 2025, with over 3.5 billion TikTok searches combined.

The new cans contain 120mg of magnesium citrate, which is touted for its ability to support the nervous system and convert certain amino acids into happy hormones.

Even before the official Mindful Blends launch, the products generated a major buzz on social media, totting up over one million views on TikTok.

“Do I feel like I’m bossing it? I’m definitely making it up as I go along,” Liv adds.

“But I’m staying really close to the customer and people who feel something from our brand and listening to that.

“We’re not here to tell you how to live your life, or here to tell you how to spend your time. We’re just trying to give out one billion moments of calm.”

Baby boy collapses & dies just 3 days after being sent home from hospital by doctor who made parents feel ‘over anxious’

A BABY boy collapsed and died just 3 days after being sent home from hospital by a doctor who made the parents feel “over anxious”, an inquest heard.

Freddie Beaumont fell critically ill at the family home in Worsley, Manchester, only three weeks after his first birthday.

The youngster was rushed to hospital after going into cardiac arrest but could not be saved.

Three days earlier, Freddie had been referred to the paediatric department of the Salford Royal Hospital, and discharged a few hours later.

An inquest heard how a doctor said he was suffering from bronchiolitis, a common lung infection.

Freddie’s devastated mum has told Bolton Coroner’s Court his “symptoms were not taken seriously” during his first visit to Salford Royal, even though “it was clear things weren’t right”.

Freddie is the son of project manager Mark Beaumont and operations director Aimee Beaumont.

Giving evidence, his mother said he had previously had been in hospital with bronchiolitis in the May 2022.

He was given antibiotics, and had follow-up visits from nurses. He could sound “quite crackly, quite often” and his chest was a “constant concern”, Mrs Beaumont said.

In the days before his death, he first appeared unwell after attending nursery on Friday, November 18, 2022, the hearing was told.

I watched Gerald McClellan fight for his life after horror KO – 30 years on it still makes me feel sick to my stomach

IT IS 30 years ago to the day that Nigel Benn, with an almost medieval ferocity, battered American Gerald McClellan to retain his WBC world super-middleweight title.

Normally after such a blood-chilling, super-human display of guts and raw courage – when Benn had tigerishly fought back after twice being on the brink of defeat – there would have been an outpouring of joyous elation.

Benn’s flurry of punches left McClellan counted out in the tenth round[/caption]

McLellan was left in a coma and blind, while also mostly deaf, following the fight

But let me make it perfectly clear: the tragic events following the Dark Destroyer’s infamous 10-round KO victory – and there are still repercussions to this day – ensured there was certainly no cause for celebration.

A 12,000 sell-out London Arena and a further 13 million viewers tuning-in live on ITV watched horrified as McClellan was transformed from a superbly fit athlete to a shell of a man lying unconscious on the canvas as three doctors and an anaesthetist fought desperately to save his life.

Recalling those scenes from three decades ago leaves me with the same sick feeling in the pit of my stomach as it did then.

In my SunSport fight report, I said there had never been a more brutal battle in Britain – and thankfully there has never been another like it since.

We watched, hearts in our mouths, as the medics spent 15 minutes going about their work.

McClellan was given an injection to relax him, put in a head-brace and had a oxygen mask strapped to his face. He was stretchered out of the ring and rushed to the nearby Royal London Hospital.

There, waiting to operate, was neurosurgeon John Sutcliffe, who removed a blood clot from his brain.

After surgery, McClellan lay in a coma for two weeks before being flown back to his home in Freeport, Illinois, where he has been cared for by his sister Lisa ever since.

His devastating brain injuries have left him blind, almost completely deaf and confined to a wheelchair.

Ironically, Benn was taken to the same hospital and placed in the same ward as McClellan suffering from extreme exhaustion, a fractured nose, fractured jaw and passing blood in his urine due to kidney damage.

Colin Hart’s fight report from the dramatic fight[/caption]

We were told that Nigel went over to his comatose opponent kissed him on the cheek and said “sorry”.

In hindsight the omens weren’t good for this meeting between – pound-for-pound – two of the most devastating punchers of their era.

They just didn’t like each other.

If ever there was an Ugly American it was McClellan who arrived on these shores with a reputation for being as mean and nasty outside the ring as he was inside.

The great Manny Steward, who trained dozens of world champions including Tommy ‘Hit Man’ Hearns and Lennox Lewis made no bones about it when he said: “Out of all the fighters I have trained, Gerald probably had the biggest mean streak of them all.”

McClellan, having won all but two of his 31 fights by KO, prophetically said two months before he met Benn: “You have to go to war. You have to be prepared to die. That’s what boxing is.”

And his cornerman, Stan Johnson, put in his two pennyworth by declaring: “Gerald didn’t want to win the fight. He actually wanted to kill Nigel Benn.”

McClellan had to be respected as a formidable world-class fighting machine, but for me he was an extremely flawed human being.

His hobby was breeding fighting pit bulls. How can anyone possibly warm to anyone who admits to tying up the muzzle of a labrador and throwing it into the jaws of his prize pit bull and watch it being torn to pieces?

Because of his violent reputation, McClellan was a 1-3 favourite going into the fight that was choc-full of drama and controversy from the the start.

Just 35 seconds after the opening bell, McClellan trapped Benn against the ropes and – with both fists crashing against his skull – forced him out of the ring onto the apron.

Recalling the moment, Nigel said “I didn’t know a man could hit that hard.”

The pair fought until the tenth round in a savage war of attrition[/caption]

Benn managed to scramble back with the count on nine, but it seemed impossible for him to survive.

Yet he tore into McClellan with both hands and it was obvious we were about to witness a sensational non-stop battle of attrition.

From then on, the action ebbed and flowed with a violence that was frightening in its intensity.

In the eighth, a desperately-tired Benn was floored by a tremendous McClellan right.

Nigel got up to take the mandatory eight count and, as he stood in a neutral corner swaying like a sapling in the wind, his face grotesquely swollen, he looked more like the Dark Destroyed than Dark Destroyer.

He seemed to have little chance of pulling through.

Yet somehow, from somewhere, he managed to dredge up a few more ounces of strength and willpower and once again launched himself at his tormentor.

He shook McClellan with a right to the chin and that was the moment the American looked fearful and started to crumble – perhaps realising he was faced with an unstoppable, unrelenting force.

Two rounds later, another Benn onslaught sent McClellan to his knees. Managing to haul himself upright he was met by a short right uppercut.

This time – fully conscious – he stayed down on one knee as French referee Alfred Azaro, counted him out.

I’m ashamed to say I was guilty of thinking McClellan had committed boxing’s cardinal sin and had decided he’d taken enough punishment and quit.

At that moment – before the stark reality set in – the crowd had worked themselves into a frenzy of excitement at having seen Benn’s unbelievable courage prevail against the odds.

There have been many theories that McClellan – who showed signs of distress after being accidentally head-butted in the ninth – could have finished beaten but unscathed if the rookie referee, in charge of only his second world title fight, or Johnson had read the signs correctly and pulled him out.

We will never know.

There’s no doubt that Benn, 61 – four years older than McClellan and now living in Sydney – was so traumatised it changed his life completely and led him to become a born-again Christian and preacher.

Several years later, Nigel said: “Sure I wanted to win – but not at that price. On that night my heart went out of boxing. Let me tell you something – inflicting that kind of damage does something to you.”

Benn was back at the London Arena five months later, knocking out Italian Vincenzo Nardiello – but he was never the same fighter again and he retired after losing what would be his final three fights.

For a time there was bad blood between Benn and the McClellan family – Lisa felt Nigel hadn’t shown enough remorse or compassion for her brother.

But, in 2007, the rift was healed when Benn helped organise a star-studded charity evening at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel, that raised £200,000 for McClellan.

That money has helped to make Gerald’s life as comfortable as it can possibly be.

However, I suggest no amount of cash is any sort of consolation for a young man in his prime having his future shattered in under half an hour.

I always get asked what concealer I use as my under-eyes are so flawless – I don’t own one, my 1p hack makes skin bright

A BEAUTY enthusiast has shared a savvy hack to fix the appearance of eye bags – and you probably already have the secret in your kitchen cupboard.

So if your skin is looking dull and lacklustre and you’re on a mission to brighten up your face without having to splash too much cash, then you’ve come to the right place.

Beauty fans were desperate to give her trick a try[/caption]

Thanks to content creator Victoria Benitez, your skin will look tight and bright in no time at all – and it’ll cost you just 1p a time.

Victoria took to social media to share her natural skincare trick, leaving many very impressed.

With Victoria’s method, rather than lathering on layers of thick concealer, she uses just two common ingredients – coffee and water – which she then freezes into small ice cubes.

Showing off her simple trick, the young woman, who is from the US, said: “Everyone is always asking me what concealer I use. Concealer? I’ve never heard of her. I just use coffee and water.”

She then claimed: “This is so good for your skin and because it’s in ice, it helps reduce puffiness, swelling, improve circulation, and that’s what causes dark under-eyes – poor circulation – and also damaged blood vessels in your eyes.

“And when you put coffee on your eyes, it helps constrict the blood vessels that are damaged, which repairs them, which makes them nice, tight, and bright.

“And it’s literally so simple and it’s not $100 [£79]. All these eye creams are so expensive and you look at the ingredients, it’s like agua, alcohol, then caffeine.

“The one thing that all eye products have in common is that they always have caffeine.

“So just get some coffee and water and wake your face up with some coffee ice cubes.”

With Victoria’s simple hack, all you need to do is freeze your coffee mixture and then rub it over your face, paying particular attention to under your eyes.

The influencer, who also uses beetroot on her lips and cheeks to save money on blusher and lipstick, then acknowledged: “And also, the smell from the coffee just makes you so much more alive, so much more awake, so much lighter and brighter, you’re just ready to take on the day.”

As Victoria wiped her face and showed off her flawless skin, the brunette beauty, who describes her ice cube hack as ‘natural concealer’ then added: “So this is your sign.

And in addition, a number of 2023 stars were in attendance, with the likes of Ella Morgan, Erica Roberts, Tasha Jay, Paul Liba, Matt Pilmoor and Shona Manderson taking part.

And Shona decided to let fans into a little secret about the show, as she said they have to go backt o filming after the dinner, in your “manky” outfit, while “very hungover.”

She said: “We film reunions over 2 days and then if you’re needed which I was every time you have to film on the third morning after filming ALL day for the dinner party so your dress is manky and if you’re like me very hungover.

“But you have to do your makeup again and I just slept in my eye makeup because I couldn’t do it like my make up girlies did!”

She added: “You always feel so rough doing that.”

MAFS star Amy Kenyon also confirmed this to be the case, sharing a photo in her outfit from the night before.

But she opted to wear leggings on her bottom half, beneath her glam dress, and trainers, after being dragged back in for filming.

Amy wrote to fans: “I can’t explain how unwell (hungover) I felt the next morning when we were told we had to go back & film our little interview section.

“Last night’s makeup & hair & we couldn’t be bothered to dress our bottom halves.

“I had full @adanola jumpsuit hanging off me at the back. Not a proud moment, not sure how @adam.nightingale.1990 still looks so good. My look is giving dragged through an actual hedge.”

It comes as viewers slammed bosses for bringing back old contestants from series eight for yet another reunion.

One wrote: “Not gonna bother. It’s not the recent cast, what’s the point?”

A second posted: “Don’t understand why the ones from last season are on there?? They had there moment.”

This person replied: “I thought that! Confusing,” while someone else echoed: “Absolutely agreed , annoying.”

Another added: “Stop bringing the wannabes back for more airtime.”

Nepo-baby attends star-studded Burberry London Fashion Week show with Brit rock icon dad – but can you guess who she is?

A BRITISH nepo-baby cut a glam figure in a check-print jacket and huge hoop earrings as she stepped out with her dad at London Fashion Week.

The 25-year-old businesswoman, who co-owns a shop with her musician father, oozed sass in the short-sleeve outerwear paired with a red and black patterned shirt underneath.

Missy Albarn, daughter of Blur frontman Damon Albarn, 56, looked right at home in the star-studded surroundings of designer Burberry’s London Fashion Week show.

She paired her outfit with pinstripe trousers and white high-top trainers, finishing off her look with a printed bag.

She swept her red hair into a low bun with front pieces framing her face and kept her make-up fresh.

Her proud Britpop star dad Damon opted for more neutral tones, with a white T-Shirt and stone coloured shirt cover up, paired with grey wide-legged joggers and white trainers.

The Park Life vocalist added a pop of colour with a green baseball cap and red-rimmed glasses.

He stood close by Missy as they posed for pictures on the Red Carpet before entering the event.

They were seen enjoying a chat before they headed inside.

Damon, who confessed in 2023 to writing his new album in secret, rocketed to fame as the main lyricist and frontman of rock band Blur.

He is also co-creator of virtual band Gorillaz.

And no doubt his celebrity connections will have helped Missy bag an invitation to one of fashion’s hottest events of the season.

Damon was seen sobbing at Blur’s final Wembley gig in 2023 – with his secret heartache later revealed to be due to the break-up of his 25-year relationship with wildlife artist and photographer Suzi Winstanley, who is Missy’s mum.

CLOSE BOND

In the aftermath of the split, Damon was said to be focusing on Missy, with whom he is very close.

He even credited her as the inspiration for the recent collaboration between his musical side project Gorillaz and Latin superstar Bad Bunny, after she and a friend introduced him to the rapper’s music.

What is a Nepo Baby?

A ‘nepo baby’ is a colloquial term used to describe individuals who have gained opportunities or success in their careers primarily due to familial connections or the influence of their well-known or wealthy parents, rather than solely through their own talent, skills, or efforts.

The term ‘nepo’ is short for ‘nepotism’, which refers to favouritism granted to relatives or close friends, often in a professional context.

Key Characteristics:

  • Inherited advantage: Nepo babies often benefit from their family’s established reputation, wealth, or industry connections.
  • Access to networks: They typically have easier access to influential networks and resources within their chosen field.
  • Public perception: The term can carry a negative connotation, implying that their success is not entirely merit-based.

Industries Affected:

  • Entertainment: Many actors, musicians, and other performers are often labeled as nepo babies if they have famous parents.
  • Business: Individuals who inherit or are given significant roles in family-owned businesses.
  • Politics: Politicians who follow in the footsteps of their parents or other relatives.

Examples:

  • Children of famous actors who become actors themselves.
  • Heirs to business empires who assume executive roles.
  • Offspring of political figures who enter public office.

The concept of nepo babies is often debated, with some arguing that it undermines the notion of meritocracy.

Meanwhile, others believe that it is natural for families to support and help each other succeed.

Damon recalled to us: “They grew up together and went to the Spanish school at the top of our road, so they’re attuned to Latin music and into reggaeton.

“Towards the end of lockdown, when everything was opening up, we went to Jamaica to do the Gorillaz EP, Meanwhile.

“And because Bad Bunny lives in Puerto Rico, which is close by, it was the perfect place for us to meet up.

“I went with my daughter and her mates and so they got to meet him too.”

BUSINESS PARTNERS

The pair have also gone into business together.

They run a homeware shop called West Town in Westbourne Grove, London.

It sells art, posters, bags and much more and its Instagram bio states: “West Town is a place full of gorgeous things.

“Filled with things we’ve found and things we’ve made, objects we love and pieces that inspire us.”

Both Missy and Damon are directors and it also has an online offering.

But some 46 per cent say they have an unfavourable opinion of Mr Farage – giving him a net score of minus 15 points.

But the public overall has a negative view of leading politicians and parties, the survey reveals.

The figures from the Ipsos show that Sir Keir Starmer holds a net favourability rating of minus 34 points.

Just over a fifth, some 21 per cent, give him a favourable record some seven months into his job as Prime Minister – but 55 per cent give the opposite view.

His net rating is down by five points compared to last month amid the fall out from national insurance hike and ending the universal winter fuel payments.

Tesco axes popular Clubcard service at checkouts leaving customers fuming

TESCO shoppers have blasted the retailer for axing a popular service at checkouts.

Customers will no longer be able to pay via the supermarket’s app in stores.

Until now, customers buying items in Tesco shops could open the supermarket’s app, and then click on “Pay In-Store”.

This feature allowed them to pay and collect Clubcard points in one go by scanning a code.

But as of March 7, they will have to do these two things separately.

An email sent to customers said: “To ensure we’re able to keep bringing out the best value and convenience, we’ve taken the decision to remove the pay in-store feature, formally known as Tesco Pay+, from the Tesco app.

“Between now and March 7, the pay in-store feature will be phased out and any linked card details will be removed, unless you’re using them for GetGo, Whoosh, or home delivery shopping.

“So next time you’re in-store, you’ll need to pay separately after scanning your Clubcard. You can still earn points and access Clubcard Prices by simply scanning your Clubcard or app at the till.

“Or you can add your Clubcard to your Apple or Google Wallets.”

Shoppers are not happy with the decision – as many found the feature a time-saver and others used it to avoid carrying a wallet around.

One said on the social media site Reddit: ”So annoying. How is it more convenient to turn what was one step, into two. Can’t see how it’s going to help with value either.”

Another added: “Use it daily.. it’s pretty convenient to me, no need to scan Clubcard.. just pay with the app, quite a strange move from Tesco.”

And a third fumed: “I literally use this for every purchase, whyyyyyyyyy.”

While a fourth said: “FFS I use this to buy brekkie at work instead of keeping a wallet on me.”

Some speculated that Tesco is trying to reduce the amount of processing done by the app, to keep it working more easily.

Another shopper wrote on X.com that it had been handy to use when filling up at the petrol station.

A Tesco spokesperson said: “We regularly review the payment options available to our customers.

“It’s still quick easy to earn points on your shopping and fuel and enjoy Clubcard Prices offers by tapping your Clubcard in-store, scanning it via the Tesco App, or by adding it to your Apple or Google wallet.”

It comes after there was further disappointment for Tesco after it announced that ten in-store pharmacies will be closing in supermarkets across the UK.

Shoppers were also gutted when the UK’s biggest supermarket axed a breakfast favourite from shelves.

How to save money at Tesco

EVERY little helps when it comes to saving money at Tesco.

The Sun’s Head of Consumer Tara Evans explains how you can save money at the UK’s biggest supermarket.

Clubcard points

Tesco first launched it’s loyalty scheme back in 1995. You get one point for every £1 you spend in store. If you spend points in store then 100 points is worth £1. You can spend your points via its reward partners and get triple and even sometimes quadruple the value.

Extend Clubcard points

You can find lost Clubvcard points and find the last two years of unused vouchers by logging into the Tesco Clubcard site.

Clubcard prices

If you don’t have a Clubcard then you will miss out on its cheaper Clubcard prices. However, don’t forget to check prices before you shop because it might not be cheaper than elsewhere, especially on big value items like washing powder and loo roll.

Yellow stickers

Shops do vary the time they reduce groceries with yellow stickers but Tesco tends to be between 7pm and 9pm.

Save money if you shop online

If you get your Tesco food shop delivered then it might be worth buying a delivery saver pass to help cut the cost of delivery fees.

If you live near a Tesco then you can get click and collect slots of as little as 25p, so it might be cheaper than getting your food delivered.
