Alan Reynolds hopes to keep a hold of Bohemians star despite strong interest from English clubs

ALAN Reynolds is hoping James Clarke will stay at Bohemians until at least the end of the season.

Online rumours claimed the Meath man was on the verge of joining Grimsby Town only for the player to have a change of heart.

The 24-year-old has scored in both of Bohs’ last two matches

But Bohs have not received a bid for the attacker who scored an injury-time equaliser against Sligo Rovers last Friday and Rennie suggested there was no get-out clause in his contract.

Bohs have offered him a new deal and, while it is unlikely he will sign it, the club hope to have him for the remainder of the season as they cause European qualification.

Rennie said: “There’s interest in him. But look, he’s a Bohs player at the minute, and he will be unless things change, but I haven’t heard any differently.

“I suppose it’s been tricky for him, at the start of the season, he wasn’t in the team and he had to work and be patient and get in.

“Now he’s in the team, there’s interest in him. I’d love to keep him, but he’s a 24-year-old lad who probably has ambitions of going and playing across the water.”

Rennie claimed the club was not under pressure to sell rather than lose him for nothing at the end of the season.

He said: “It depends on what’s on offer, isn’t it, whether the board feels it’s worth cashing in and taking the money, but they don’t.

“They want James Clarke, they really like James Clarke as a player and would love him to stay beyond, so we’ll see what happens in that.”

Rennie would not be drawn on whether a return to Dalymount was on the cards for St Pat’s left-back Anto Breslin but admitted he wanted competition at left-back following the departure of Kian Best. But he dismissed a link with Pat Hickey of Galway United.

He said: “There’s nothing close but I wouldn’t mind maybe one more. If one came available, we’d look at it.”

Friday’s game against St Pat’s may come too early for new signing Douglas James-Taylor to start following his move from Walsall who had loaned him to sister club Drogheda United for the past year.

He said: “Dougie is one we’ve been looking at a while. Once we were made aware that he was available, it was a no-brainer. He’s a really good centre-forward, wants to score goals and is the right age for us.

“I think the big message for us is we’re trying to build something. You can see by the age of the signings that we’re making.

Now, that’s not to say we wouldn’t sign a 30-plus player for experience but we’re trying to build something. And if given time, we feel it’ll help everyone.”

Lys Mousset fell into the experienced category but the former Premier League striker has left after just one goal, a late winner away to Sligo Rovers. Rennie feels the risk was worth it.

He said: “I think it was, because if it had worked out for everyone…it was great for the league at the time, all the publicity, just getting him fit was the issue.

“Lys struggled to settle, we’ve struggled to get him fit, get him on the pitch. I think it’s probably one that everyone could see happening, let’s be honest.

“But he scored a great goal down in Sligo, which I’m delighted we can look back on, that we got three points. It just hasn’t worked. And he had a conversation with us to say, ‘look, I think it’s the right time for us to go’.”

‘Trying to keep up with the big man’ – Top GAA talisman beams in pic with Man Utd star during warm weather training

SAM MULROY had a chance encounter with a Manchester United star as he embarked on post-season training abroad.

The Louth forward was being put through his paces at the same time as Red Devils striker Rasmus Hojlund.

And the Naomh Mairtin man took the chance to take a photo with the Dane.

Mulroy said: “Trying to keep up with the Big Man @rasmus.hoejlund”

2025 proved to be a historic year for Mulroy and his Wee County teammates.

The peak of their season came when they beat Meath to win the Leinster football championship for the first time since 1957.

However, the county board will have a task on their hands to replicate that success in 2026 following the departure of manager Ger Brennan.

The former Dub stepped down on Tuesday after two years at the helm.

He is odds-on to replace Dessie Farrell in the Dublin hotseat, who departed as Sky Blues boss after their All-Ireland quarter-final loss to Tyrone on Saturday night.

Brennan won All-Irelands with the Dubs in 2011 and 2013, but had to retire from inter-county football in 2015 due to an achilles injury.

Louth also won the Leinster under-20 title this summer, and were beaten in the minor provincial decider by Offaly

And in a statement released on Tuesday, Brennan insisted the future is bright for the Wee County despite his exit.

He said: “On behalf of the Louth senior football team management and staff, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for what has been an extraordinary journey with this incredible organisation.

“I want to thank Chairperson Seán McClean for his unwavering support – always engaged, energetic, and available in his commitment to all things Louth GAA.

“His leadership and dedication have been instrumental in everything we achieved together.

“My sincere appreciation goes to the Louth County Board, the Louth Clubs, and all the staff at Darver for their tremendous support throughout these past two years.

“The foundation of support you provided made our work possible.

“Most importantly, I want to express my profound gratitude to the Louth Senior Footballers. It has been an absolute privilege to be part of your journey these past two years.

“What you have accomplished for the Gaels of County Louth will be remembered and celebrated for generations to come. Your dedication, heart, and commitment have made history.

“As you embark on the next chapter of your journey, I have complete confidence that fresh perspectives will bring new energy and insights to your honest and hardworking team. The future is bright for Louth football.”

Stuart McCloskey recalls Interpro memory he hopes Ireland interim boss Paul O’Connell doesn’t remember

STUART McCloskey is bidding to ensure his Ireland recall amounts to more than reminding Paul O’Connell how he once got one over him.

The Ulster centre has not featured in any of Ireland’s last 13 Tests but will add to his 19 caps this month with Garry Ringrose and Bundee Aki with the Lions and Robbie Henshaw injured.

The Ireland interim-boss would not look back fondly on that match against McCloskey

With Finlay Bealham drafted in by the Lions because of injury, McCloskey — who turns 33 in five weeks’ time — is the oldest player in interim coach O’Connell’s squad.

He is also the only member of the travelling party which arrived in Tbilisi yesterday ahead of Saturday’s Test against Georgia who played against 45-year-old O’Connell, in 2014.

He recalled: “I was in one Ireland training camp with him. I think I’m the only one in the squad to have played a game against him as well. We won down at Thomond that day for Ulster.

“Ulster sent down the biggest B team of all time because it was a dead rubber at the end of the season and Munster had their best team out, they were trying to get second.

“Michael Heaney scored a try. James McKinney was at 10. Good story because the coach said, ‘Ah, you’ll play more next season’ to him and he was actually leaving that summer.

“I won’t say who the coach was but you can figure that out.”

It was Mark Anscombe, with McCloskey hoping O’Connell’s memory is as good as his own.

He said: “I’ll not mention that to him, I’m trying to get picked, but I like to think he knows it.”

A year earlier, McCloskey was in Georgia as part of an Emerging Ireland team which competed in the Tbilisi Cup.

He said: “I remember it was the time the animals escaped from the zoo.”

The IRFU press officer quickly quipped that it was not a metaphor. That actual zoo escape saw a penguin swim to the Azerbaijan border.

McCloskey’s journey has not been quite as dramatic — but neither has it been straightforward.

He made his Six Nations debut against England in 2016 but did not appear in the tournament again until seven years later.

In the meantime, he won only five caps, all against tier-two nations.
Two of them came four years ago, during the last Lions tour, so he knows how they can be used as a launchpad.

He said: “I still think I’ve got a bit of rugby to go in my career.

“So this Lions period the last time, when we played America and Japan, sort of springboarded me on to get a lot more caps and be a lot more involved. I think I’ve been involved in two Six Nations wins in that time and a World Cup.

“Hopefully I’ll put a good foot forward for any games coming up over the next few years and keep my head around the place and push into the next World Cup.

“I don’t think I’m doing a lot wrong. It’s just there’s four very good centres, two of them are away and you could argue Robbie would’ve been away as well if he wasn’t injured, so I don’t think I’m too far off it.”

JESSICA Simpson showed off her 100-lb weight loss as she slipped back into a pair of Daisy Dukes – 20 years after starring in The Dukes of Hazzard.

Singer and actress Jessica, 44, confidently posed in the tiny denim shorts to plug her latest clothing line, having worn something remarkably similar in the 2005 action comedy.

It’s been 20 years since she starred in The Dukes of Hazzard[/caption]

Pairing the hot pants with a plunging leopard print top and red heels, she accessorised with a pair of necklaces – all from her namesake brand.

Posting the shot to Instagram, she wrote: “Cut denim blues and red shoes are this Summers go to’s.”

Jessica previously said she has a “ridiculous number” of cheeky shorts in her wardrobe, including the very ones she kept from the film.

But the star admitted her clothes aren’t as glamorous as those belonging to Diana Ross. who is her sister Ashlee’s mother-in-law.

She laughed: “Her archive is filled with sequins that make you salivate and mine is filled with Juicy suits and Daisy Dukes.”

The Jessica Simpson Collection, launched in 2005, has evolved into a billion-dollar fashion empire.

Initially focusing on footwear, the brand expanded to include clothing, accessories, and more.

In 2024, the collection collaborated exclusively with Walmart, bringing its boho-chic styles to a broader audience.

Jessica – who has lost 100lbs through a combination of changing her eating habits and exercise – worked with long-time friend and coach Harley Pasternak.

The Newlyweds star stepped up her fitness routine to benefit her mental health while in lockdown with her then-husband Eric Johnson and their kids Maxwell, Ace and Birdie.

To start, she got to walking 6,000 steps a day with the kids, before increasing it to 14,000 daily while she kept her diet to three meals a day and two snacks from his Harley’s Body Reset Diet.

Jessica then added 45-minute workout sessions three days a week, and unplugged from technology and attempted seven hours of sleep a night to also help reset her mental health.

The singer has been candid about the pressure she felt to have the perfect body throughout her career.
