Chelsea set record-breaking transfer fee for Nicolas Jackson as AC Milan line up move for Blues forward

CHELSEA have set their asking price for Nicolas Jackson amid reported interest from AC Milan.

The striker appears to have fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea this summer.

Boss Enzo Maresca has brought in two forwards, Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, for a combined £90million.

And it has been claimed they will demand even more than that to let Jackson go.

Italian giants AC Milan are said to be interested in the 24-year-old after Tammy Abraham’s loan expired.

But Chelsea are in no rush to sell and value Jackson at £100m.

That figure would make him the most expensive striker ever sold by a British team.

Jackson is contracted to Chelsea until 2033, having penned a new deal last September.

But he could find game time hard to come by last season with Pedro starting ahead of him in the Club World Cup semi-final against Fluminense.

The £60m newboy found the net with two stunning strikes on his first start for the club.

Katie Taylor’s promoter chimes in on retirement talk after ‘absolutely schooling’ Amanda Serrano as he slams Netflix

EDDIE HEARN believes Katie Taylor could go “another 30 rounds” following her “absolute schooling” of Amanda Serrano.

Taylor, 39, rolled back the clock as she outclassed her career nemesis in their trilogy bout at Madison Square Garden.

KT ran out majority decision victor after two judges scored the bout 97-93 while the third called it a 95-95 draw.

The same result was scored by Netflix‘s unofficial scorecards, with Hearn hitting out at the streaming giant.

He told iFL TV: “If you want to listen to Netflix scoring it 95-95 – how can you give Serrano five rounds?

“If I was really, really, really generous I’d give her three rounds. After seven rounds or six rounds, she was so deflated.

“She couldn’t win a round. Katie’s feet were so fast. It was an absolute schooling.

“Respect to Serrano, amazing showing, thank you for the opportunity but wow, incredible.”

Taylor and Serrano topped an all-female billing at a sold-out Madison Square Garden.

And Hearn believes KT’s latest showing cements her as the greatest female boxer of all time.

The Matchroom Boxing head honcho added: “It is a non negotiable, mate. On so many different levels.

“The way she carries herself, the role model she is to young people, the way she fights, the way she trains, the barriers she has broken down.

“Just a complete legend.

“I’m proud of her, you should be proud of her, the whole of Ireland.”

Speaking after her hand was raised, Taylor offered the biggest hint that she was considering retirement, admitting she “doesn’t know” if she will keep going.

Hearn, however, suggested that Ireland’s favourite daughter is fresh as a daisy and has plenty left in the tank.

He said: “if it was really tough tonight, does the conversation come where you say: is it time?

“She is fresh as a daisy. She can do another 30 rounds.

“Normally, she is out on her feet.

“When she boxes like that, I know it might not be as enjoyable but if you know anything about boxing, that is an absolute masterclass.”

‘Enjoy hottest day of year’ – Weather pros say temps will sizzle at 32C with nationwide heat alert – before major switch

MET Eireann has issued a heat warning for the entire country this weekend – as they warn of possible forest fires, uncomfortable sleeping conditions and heat stress.

However low pressure will move in bringing thundery downpours.

Ireland’s Weather Channel said today will be the “hottest day of the year” with temperatures reaching 31C to 32C.

Meteorologist Cathal Nolan said: “There’s nothing more to add this morning other than enjoy!

“Days like these are but a few a year in our turbulent mid-latitude region on the edge of the Atlantic, so make the most of it while it’s around.

“You know yourself, but throw on the suncream today, drink plenty of water (or other beverages), enjoy your BBQ’s, and make the most of Ireland when it’s borderline tropical.

“Feel free to share your temperature reports and photos whatever you’re at and wherever you are today.

“P.S. it’s 22C already at 8am in some places.”

Met Eireann’s Deirdre Lowe confirmed the extreme heat will continue today however “low pressure will move in”.

She said: “High pressure in the North Sea steers a warm and humid south-easterly airflow over Ireland which will bring extremely warm or hot weather for today and much of tomorrow.

“However, low pressure will move in from the Atlantic to the west tomorrow afternoon.

“This will bring some showery rain which will become more widespread tomorrow night and will introduce a change to cooler, fresher air mass for all parts by Monday.”

Any fog patches will clear this morning as temperatures heat up.

Deirdre said: “So today will be a dry and sunny day with any patchy fog near the south-west coast quickly burning away.

“It will soon turn very warm or hot with temperatures widely rising to the high 20s and reaching 30C in a few spots.

“Light to moderate south-easterly winds will keep exposed coastal areas close to the mid-20s.”

The forecaster said a status yellow high temperature warning is in effect nationwide.

She said: “So a reminder there will be high UV levels and to stay safe near water.

“It will be dry, muggy and very mild again tonight with lows of 13C-18C.”

RAIN PAIN

Sunday will bring more hot temperatures but some “heavy and thundery downpours” are likely.

The forecaster said: “Tomorrow will still be very warm or hot with highs of 23C to 29C in light to moderate south to south-easterly breezes.

“But it will be turning fresher in the west and south tomorrow evening.

“While there will be some good sunshine tomorrow lasting longest in the north and east.

“Cloud will gradually build from the Atlantic and some showery rain is likely to move into parts during the afternoon and evening with some thunderstorms possible too.”

Sunday night will bring rain across the country but it should clear by the morning.

Deirdre added: “This rain will become more widespread tomorrow night.

“And as it clears away to the north on Monday morning it will introduce a change to cooler, fresher conditions for all of us for early next week with a mixture of sunshine and showers.

“Temperatures will fall back to the mid to high teens or the low 20s at best and it will be breezy and blustery at times too. So enjoy the fabulous weather while it lasts.”

Church seeks to exhume head of Catholic martyr Sir Thomas More… 500 years after it was put on a pike

THE head of Sir Thomas More, the Catholic martyr and former Lord Chancellor to Henry VIII, could soon be dug up, five centuries after it was boiled and placed on a pike.

St Dunstan’s Church in Canterbury has revealed plans to exhume and preserve the centuries-old relic, with hopes of putting it on display.

St Dunstan’s, an Anglican church in Canterbury, Kent, has made the bid to dig up the severed head[/caption]

The remains would be placed in a shrine in time for the 500th anniversary of More’s execution in 2035.

More was Henry VIII’s lord chancellor but was best known for defying the King and was executed for treason in 1535 in Tower Hill, London.

The lawyer, author and philosopher refused to accept Henry as head of the newly formed Church of England – a decision that cost him his life.

While his body was buried in the Tower of London, his head was parboiled and mounted on a spike on London Bridge as a grim warning to others thinking of crossing the king.

More’s daughter, Margaret Roper, secretly recovered the head, reportedly preserving it in spices and keeping it with her for the rest of her life.

When she died in 1544, the head was buried alongside her and in 1578, her remains, along with her father’s head, were transferred to the Roper family vault at St Dunstan’s Church, where it’s been ever since.

Now, church leaders say the time has come to unearth what remains and preserve it using modern conservation techniques.

A statement read to the congregation at St Dunstan’s last Sunday confirmed that the parochial church council (PCC) has agreed to begin the process if granted permission, The Times reported.

It read: “What the PCC has agreed, subject to all the right permissions being granted, is to exhume and conserve what remains of the relic, which will take several years to dry out and stabilise.

“We could just put it back in the vault, maybe in a reliquary of some kind, or we could place the reliquary in some sort of shrine or carved stone pillar above ground in the Roper chapel, which is what many of our visitors have requested.

“We’d really appreciate your ideas and thoughts.”

The move could turn the quiet Kent parish into a major draw for pilgrims, tourists, and history buffs but first, the church needs the green light from church authorities.

It would also require around £50,000 in donations to make it happen.

The relic could take several years to fully stabilise and dry, but once conserved, the church plans to either place it back in the vault or move it into a custom-built shrine or stone pillar inside the chapel.

Visitors have reportedly been asking to see the relic for years, and the church is now inviting ideas from the community about how best to honour More’s legacy.

The church hopes to raise tens of thousands of pounds to fund expert archaeologists and conservation specialists but Rev Jo Richards, rector of the benefice, said early reaction from the congregation has been positive.

Church courts don’t often approve exhumations, but in this case, supporters hope More’s global significance as a saint, scholar, and martyr will help make the case.

More is also officially regarded as a holy relic by the Catholic Church, which could help the Church’s case.

He was a respected lawyer and the author of Utopia, a visionary text imagining an ideal society but was also a firm defender of the Catholic faith.

While he’s remembered for his courage and moral conviction, More also played a part in persecuting heretics, those who had different beliefs, defending their executions in his writings.

Even so, his private life was marked by generosity, humour, and deep religious devotion.

His friend Erasmus called him “the most virtuous man in England”.

If the project goes ahead, work could begin in the next few years, with the shrine ready in time for the anniversary in 2035.

Urgent warning to parents over dangerous ways to cool their kids off in the garden

WITH heat health alerts sweeping across England and temperatures set to soar to a scorching 33C this weekend, parents across the country will be desperate to find ways to keep their little ones cool.

But amidst the sweltering heat, there’s a hidden danger lurking in your garden that could leave your child with horrific burns – and it’s not the sun’s rays.

The hosepipe could pose a risk to your kids[/caption]

It might seem like a brilliant idea to give your kids a refreshing spray with the garden hose while a heat health warning is in place.

However, experts have issued a stark warning about the scorching temperatures water inside a hosepipe can reach when left in direct sunlight.

Plus, many parents aren’t aware how many children die of drowning every week in the UK – including in paddling pools.

You may not have plans to use a hosepipe this weekend; after all, a hosepipe ban has come into place in Yorkshire, Kent and Sussex, and the South East.

Yorkshire Water brought in restrictions on using hosepipes for activities such as filling paddling pools, while South East Water said demand for drinking water in the counties had reached “record levels since May”, adding: “This situation has left us with no choice but to restrict the use of hosepipes and sprinklers.”

But whether you’re turning to the garden hose or other ways to cool down, experts say be wary of the risks…

GARDEN HOSE

Every year, the heartbreaking story of a baby who suffered second-degree burns over 30 percent of his body after being sprayed with a garden hose is shared by first-aid experts.

The incident happened in 2016, when mum Dominique Woodger, said she was filling up a paddling pool when she turned on the hose, she accidentally sprayed her nine-month-old baby Nicholas Woodger.

Dominique said at the time: “I thought he was crying because he was mad, because he hates when he gets sprayed in the face. I didn’t think that it was burning him.

“Just be careful. Just touch it before you spray, before you let your kids near it.”

Dr Free N Hess, known for her child safety videos online on TikTok, commented that: “A type of burn that we see in the pediatric ER all the time is burns from the water in the hose outside.

“This particular baby sustained significant burns when his mum picked up the hose outside thinking she was going to cool him off in the summer and [the water] was super, super hot.”

She explained in her video that water in a hose that’s sitting outside in direct sunlight can heat up – and needs to be ran to release the hot water first.

Stacey, who runs Daisy First Aid Redhill & Croydon, shared that firefighters have also reiterated this vital safety message, warning that a garden hose exposed to direct sunlight can heat the water inside to a shocking 54-60 degrees Celsius (130-140 degrees Fahrenheit).

This is hot enough to cause severe burns, particularly to children and animals.

It’s crucial to always run the water for a few minutes until it’s cool before letting children play with it or get sprayed.

But Alex Price, product manager at Outdoor Toys, told The Sun that if the water is too cold, it may be too much for sensitive babies or toddlers.

“Cold water can lead to discomfort, chills, or even hypothermia if young children stay in it for too long,” he said.

How to treat burns and scalds

To treat a burn, follow the first aid advice below:

  • immediately get the person away from the heat source to stop the burning
  • cool the burn with cool or lukewarm running water for 20 minutes – do not use ice, iced water, or any creams or greasy substances like butter
  • remove any clothing or jewellery that’s near the burnt area of skin, including babies’ nappies, but do not move anything that’s stuck to the skin
  • make sure the person keeps warm by using a blanket, for example, but take care not to rub it against the burnt area
  • cover the burn by placing a layer of cling film over it – a clean plastic bag could also be used for burns on your hand
  • use painkillers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen to treat any pain
  • if the face or eyes are burnt, sit up as much as possible, rather than lying down – this helps to reduce swelling
  • if it’s an acid or chemical burn, dial 999, carefully try to remove the chemical and any contaminated clothing, and rinse the affected area using as much clean water as possible

OPEN WATER

The UK’s rivers, lakes, and other waterways might look incredibly inviting this time of year, but these have unpredictable dangers.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Jamie Jenkins of the London Fire Brigade has warned against the perilous risks of jumping into open water.

On Friday he stated: “We know people will be looking for ways to cool off during this heatwave, but please don’t be tempted to jump into open water.

“Sadly, we’re currently seeing around two incidents every day where someone is in difficulty in the water.

“Strong currents, underwater hazards, and cold-water shock all pose serious risks.

“Even on hot days, the water can be dangerously cold. Cold water shock can affect anyone, no matter how fit or experienced they are. It can cause involuntary gasping, water inhalation, and in the worst cases, drowning.”

He said to always stick to designated swimming areas.

“If you do find yourself in difficulty, remember the Royal National Lifeboat Institution’s ‘Float to Live’ advice: tilt your head back with your ears submerged, relax, and try to control your breathing. Use your hands and feet to help you stay afloat.

“And if you see someone else in trouble, never jump in after them. Call 999, encourage them to float on their back, and throw them something that floats.”

PADDLING POOLS

Whether it’s you, your kids or the dog, everyone enjoys a splash in paddling pools at home.

The Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) warned this week that there are three things parents must know about the dangers of paddling pools.

One in three children that die at home did so in paddling pools, hot tubs or ponds, it says.

“It doesn’t take a lot of water,” the charity write on Instagram. “Little ones can drown in just a few cm of water.

“Drowning is silent. A drowning child won’t splash about or cry for help. They’ll slip quietly under the water, often unnoticed.”

It’s a terrifying though – so what can you do? CAPT says to:

  • Keep little children in arms reach when they’re in or around the paddling pool.
  • If you have to go inside, take your child with you.
  • When there’s lots of people around be sure to assign a dedicated water watcher.

Now we can reveal The Perfect Match will be getting a shake-up – with producers casting influencers alongside TV stars.

A source told The Sun: “Perfect Match has been a huge hit for Netflix by bringing together all-stars casts from its own dating shows like Love Is Blind, Too Hot To Handle and The Ultimatum, as well as other hit reality shows like Love Island and The Bachelor.

“It’s not been officially announced yet but bosses have already greenlit a fourth season, before season three starts streaming in August.

“The show films almost a year in advance, but for season four they are planning to mix things up.

“Rather than just being a cast of reality stars, they will also be casting content creators, YouTubers and TikTok stars.

“They wants to capitalise on the success of Inside, which features internet superstars The Sidemen, so season 4 will cast the net wider. Internet stars are basically the new reality stars.”

The Sun has contacted a rep for Netflix for comment.

The idea behind The Perfect Match is to bring single Netflix stars together to find love.

Couples who prove their compatibility gain the power to make or break other matches in this strategic and seductive dating competition.

Wemo products from Belkin are expected to shut down as early as 2026.

This follows an announcement made in an email from Belkin which was sent to customers, where they said: “After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to end technical support for older Wemo products, effective January 31, 2026.

“After this date, several Wemo products will no longer be controllable through the Wemo app.”

Remote access and voice assistant integrations in their smart home products are included in the shutdown.

As a result, Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, which rely on cloud services to manage smart home devices, will no longer be able to be used with Wi-Fi based Wemo products.

It involves products that were still for sale as recently as 2023.

However there are a number of devices that will continue to function as normal through HomeKit over Thread.

This includes devices like the Smart Light Swith 3-Way, Stage Smart Scene Controller, Smart Plug with Thread and the Smart Video Doorbell Camera.

Wemo products configured for use with Apple HomeKit will also continue to function via HomeKit, but with the absence of the Wemo cloud services and app.

Devices still supported under warranty will be able to claim a “partial refund” from January 31 next year, according to Belkin.

This includes the Mini Smart Plug, Outdoor Plug, Mini Plugin Switch, Smart Light Swtich, Wi-Fi Smart Light Switch w/ Dimmer and Mini Smart Plug.

There are a number of products that will not be able to be available for a refund.
