UK weather: Met Office issues yellow rain warning TODAY with ‘persistent, heavy’ downpours & 50mph winds after heatwave
THE Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain today as “persistent, heavy” downpours are predicted for parts of the UK.
Windy conditions, with gusts of up to 50mph, could also lead to travel disruption in the affected areas, marking a stark change in the weather since the heatwave earlier this week.

The weather warning has been put in place for much of the west coast of Scotland from 6am today until 3pm tomorrow.
It states: “Persistent, heavy rain on Friday and Saturday brings difficult travel conditions and possible flooding in places”.
The Met Office explained that spray and flooding on roads would likely increase journey times, with bus and train services also similarly impacted by the rainfall.
Warnings have also been put in place for “some interruption” to power supplies and other services.
The strongest period of rainfall is expected to be throughout much of Friday and overnight before easing on Saturday, the weather agency said.
It warned that around 40 to 60mm of rain is expected to build up “quite widely”, with potentially more than 100mm falling over some mountains.
The Met Office added that the rain would be accompanied by windy conditions, with gusts reaching as high as “40 to 50mph” around coasts and hills.
Residents in these areas have been advised to avoid travelling by road during “potentially dangerous conditions”.
If you must travel, make sure to drive cautiously and watch for possible danger, the Met Office cautioned.
Areas affected by the warning include Perth and Kinross, Stirling, the Highlands, Argyll and Bute, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, Renfrewshire, and West Dunbartonshire.
Summarising the weather today, the Met Office said it would be “wet and windy” across Scotland and Northern Ireland, with the rain being heaviest across western Scotland.
It said this rain would also spread into parts of northwest Wales as well as northern England as the day progresses.
But beyond this, the Met Office said it would be a largely “fine and dry” day elsewhere, with “plenty of sunshine”.
Temperatures have begun to drop down towards average levels from this time of year, after a heatwave swept across much of the UK over the past week.

Lasting for as long as six days in some areas, temperatures soared above 34C during the heatwave in southern England.
The blistering heat finally came to an end on Wednesday as temperatures were no longer above the given threshold for three consecutive days in any part of the UK.
On Tuesday, the hottest day of the year so far, Brits were spotted rushing to beaches and outdoor pools to cool off.
34.4C was recorded on the mercury in Writtle, Essex, trumping last year’s record high of 33.2C – recorded on June 21 in Charlwood, Surrey.
Since 1960, UK temperatures in June have surpassed 34C in only three years, with the hottest being 35.6C – recorded in 1976.
Met Office five-day forecast
Today: Wet and windy across Scotland and Northern Ireland, with the rain heaviest across western Scotland.
The rain will also spread into parts of northwest Wales and northern England later.
Otherwise, fine and dry elsewhere with plenty of sunshine but breezier.
Tonight: The cloud and rain gradually spreading southeastwards across the rest of the UK, but very little reaching the southeast.
A mild night but remaining windy in the north.
Saturday: A breezy day with large amounts of cloud and some outbreaks of rain, most frequent in the west.
Temperatures around average in the north, but feeling warm in the south.
Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday: Remaining changeable on Sunday and Monday, with some further spells of rain, especially in the west.
Drier and brighter for all on Tuesday.
Rather cool initially, but turning warmer Tuesday.

‘Here comes the rain again’ – Met Eireann pinpoint sunshine spots amid ‘unsettled’ weather blast before major shake-up
PARTS of Ireland are set to see wet and cloudy weather conditions persist over the weekend before dry conditions hit.
Another “unsettled” weather front with rain and clouds has hit Ireland again and will persist over the coming days, with no heatwave on the horizon as Europe battles with scorching temperatures.

Taking to X, Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather said: “Here comes the rain again. Rain has arrived in parts of West and North and will slowly move down the country but weakening as it does.
“Wind increasing through the morning with a very breezy afternoon ahead. Weekend will be breezy and cloudy with patchy spells of rain.”
Met Eireann’s Linda Hughes warned that the weather will remain “fairly unsettled” today and at times during the weekend.
She said: “The weather will be fairly unsettled today and at times during the weekend, but it will improve gradually through Sunday and for the start of next week.”
This morning, there will be some bright spells occurring in the East and South at first, but outbreaks of rain and drizzle are expected in the North and the West, which will spread south-easterwards through the day.
The weather expert revealed that the rain “will turn heavy” in the west, and it will become quite windy with a moderate to fresh, occasionally strong and gusty south-westerly wind developing.
Temperatures will reach the highs of 14C to 20C, with the south being the warmest spot across the country.
Linda added: “Tonight will be cloudy and misty with outbreaks of rain and drizzle. There’ll be some hill and coastal fog too.
“Breezy at first with a moderate to fresh and gusty West to south-west wind, easing light to moderate over night. Lowest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees.”
Tomorrow is set to be a “mostly dull day” with patchy light rain and drizzle on the cards for the country.
Linda revealed that the south and east will be the best areas to get sunny spells, where it “will be warm and humid” tomorrow amid the unsettled weather conditions, with cloudy conditions forecasted.
Highest temperatures will range between 14C in the north-west and 22C in the south-east in a moderate westerly breeze.
Sunday will be cloudy to begin with, some scattered outbreaks of rain or drizzle, before it brightens up through the afternoon and evening with sunny spells and scattered showers.
It will reach the highs of 14C to 20C before dropping down to temperatures of 9C to 13C.
WEATHER SHAKE-UP
In a major weather shake-up, nearly dry conditions are expected on Sunday night and will remain throughout the beginning of the week, with some isolated showers.
Most places will stay dry on Monday, but it’ll be rather cloudy with occasional sunny intervals.
The highest temperatures range from 14 to 20 degrees before dropping to 9 to 12 degrees.
And Tuesday is expected to be another dry day with cloudy conditions, with Linda warning there may be a “few isolated showers”.
Highest temperatures of 16 to 21 degrees with a light to moderate west to southwest breeze.

How rice could be the secret to perfect, full and fast growing hair & you don’t have to eat it to make it work
THE secret to perfect, fast growing hair is in your kitchen cupboard, one woman has revealed.
Taty is constantly bombarded with questions about how she got her locks so “perfect”, shiny and long.

And in a video on her TikTok page, she opened up about the top tip she’s used to transform her hair.
“Everyone’s always like, ‘Taty, how is your hair so long and beautiful, Taty, how is your hair so perfect, how did you grow your hair so fast?'” she began.
“Okay, I’m gonna tell you because I don’t want to gatekeep anymore.”
She then revealed that the secret she swears by is homemade rice water.
Taty showed how she got a container and some rice from the kitchen cupboard – insisting it doesn’t matter what kind of rice you use.
She covered the rice in water, before letting it soak for a day.
And once she’d drained the water off, she transferred it to a spray bottle.
Taty then went on to explain she uses the spray liberally on her locks before washing them, noting that it “smells really, really bad”.
“Spray it all over your roots and your ends and then put it up, leave it soaking wet, for like 30 minutes or an hour before you wash your hair,” she explained.
She added that consistently using the rice water will make your hair “grow so fast”.
“I better see all your hair grow 40 inches!” she jokingly wrote in the video caption.
“I’m gonna try this and hope you’re telling the truth and hope it works because I hate my hair,” one person wrote in the comments.
“I’ve been trying to grow my hair out for ages because it wouldn’t grow.
“I tried rosemary oil but it made my hair so greasy so I don’t know what to do anymore.”
“You can also put a few drops of essential oils or something for the smell if you don’t wanna wash your hair after every time,” another suggested.
“During covid I put rice water in my hair every day and my hair was LONGGGGGGG, this def works,” a third insisted.
Hair re-growth FAQs
Anabel Kingsley, Consultant Trichologist and Brand President at Philip Kingsley spoke exclusively to Fabulous.
How long does it take for hair to grow back?
Hair grows, on average, half an inch a month. You cannot speed this up.
Do rosemary oil and scalp massages work?
Oils do not promote hair growth. In terms of rosemary oil, the current trend stems from one small study carried out on 50 men in 2015. No women were involved, and the study compared the effects of 2 per cent minoxidil to Rosemary oil. 2 per cent minoxidil doesn’t do much for
male pattern hair loss anyway, so the results were not very impressive. Oils do serve a purpose in conditioning hair treatments though. They help add shine and smooth the hair cuticle to lock-in moisture and improve combability. Scalp massages alone won’t cure hair loss, but it can help relax you, aid in lymphatic drainage, exfoliate and help topicals penetrate.
Are there any products or foods/vitamins you recommend someone using or eating to help with hair regrowth?
To support healthy hair regrowth, if you are experiencing hair thinning we’d recommend our Density Preserving Scalp Drops clinically proven to help slow hair loss with continued daily use within three months.
Telogen effluvium (hair shedding) due to nutritional deficiencies can often be simply treated with changes to your diet, and nutritional supplements such as our specially formulated Density Healthy Hair Complex and Density Amino Acid Booster.
Iron and Ferritin (stored iron) in red meat, dried apricots and dark, leafy greens. Vitamin B12 in animal products and fortified plant-based foods. Protein from oily fish, lean meat, cottage cheese, tofu, nuts, chickpeas, and beans.
However, there may be an underlying cause for their hair loss and rather than this being masked by using an off-the-shelf product, they should be encouraged to seek the advice of a specialist such as a Trichologist.
“You just have to be dedicated!”
“Wash the rice first and put it in the fridge so it doesn’t grow mould,” someone else wrote.
“You’re young, that’s what it is,” another sighed.
“We all had long hair like this when we were young not in our 60s.
“It’s harder to keep our hair healthy for what happens to our hormones.”

Former Premier League club hit with transfer embargo in new manager’s first week in the job

A former Premier League club has been hit with a transfer embargo just weeks after the window opened.
And the ban has been bestowed upon the Championship club less than a MONTH after their new manager was appointed.

Hull City have been slapped with a three-window transfer embargo for their failure to pay a loan fee.
The fee in question was the £1million they owed Aston Villa for Louie Barry‘s services.
The EFL informed the Tigers of their punishment, which comes into effect today, on Monday.
The three-window ban means City won’t be able to sign players until the 2027 January transfer window.
Hull chiefs are set to appeal the decision, which has seen them join Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday on the transfer ban list.
They’re confident the EFL will reduce the sanction upon reviewing the necessary paperwork and reading their explanation for the non-payment of the fee.
The transfer embargo means Hull won’t be able to sign players unless they’re free agents or included in deals which don’t involve a fee.
Hull, who beat the Championship drop last season by goal difference, have yet to issue a statement on the embargo.

The transfer embargo will be a major headache for new Tigers gaffer Sergej Jakirovic, who replaced Ruben Selles in June.
Tigers chairman Acun Ilicali said of the appointment: “After a thorough and extensive recruitment process alongside Mustafa Yokes, Jared Dublin and Martin Hodge, we are delighted to secure the services of Sergej.
“We believe in the football that he will bring to the MKM Stadium for us and importantly, he has proven himself to be a winner throughout his career.
“My dream for our club has never changed from the first day I took over, and I believe in Sergej as we look forward to the 2025/26 Sky Bet Championship campaign together as one family.”
