‘It was a well-kept secret’ – Saoirse Ruane’s mum makes major career venture in honour of late daughter

SAOIRSE Ruane’s mum has embarked on a major career move in memory of her beloved daughter.

The Ruane family was left heartbroken after 12-year-old Saoirse tragically passed away in March 2024 following a long battle with cancer.

The young girl won the nation’s hearts when she appeared on the Toy Show during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, aged 8, to speak about her fight with cancer.

Saoirse’s mother, Roseanna, has made sure to keep her daughter’s memory alive on social media over the past few months.

Now, just over a year on from Saoirse’s passing, Roseanna has teamed up with BPerfect Cosmetics to launch a new line named the Saoirse and Mamma Collection.

All proceeds from the collection will be donated to two charities chosen by Saoirse’s family, described as ones that are “close to their hearts”.

The launch was announced on BPerfect’s Instagram, where the brand revealed the range was created “in loving memory of Saoirse – in collaboration with her incredible mum”.

They wrote: “This collection is a tribute to Saoirse Ruane – a little girl who inspired a nation with her strength, her smile, and her unstoppable spirit.”

The collection includes beauty essentials, each one named in honour of Saoirse, and “every product has been thoughtfully designed to reflect the colours she loved and the joy she brought to the world”.

Roseanna spoke to Evoke at the official launch of the Saoirse and Mamma BPerfect Collection, which was held at The Leinster Hotel in Dublin.

The proud mum opened up about how much her life has changed, saying: “I think for me, all I’ve wanted to do is to be kept busy. It doesn’t work for me to sit and have time to think, so I’m very grateful to be busy.”

She added: “Whether it’s creating content, my new role in radio which I absolutely adore and is the highlight of my week because it connects me with an audience and it’s bringing me back to playing music I love, pure nostalgia, and then this has been in the pipeline for about 10 to 12 months.

Speaking about the collection, Roseanna admitted: “This [collab with BPerfect] was such a well-kept secret, and I was bursting to tell someone and I couldn’t. There are just many strings to my bow now.

“I put my hand to anything and I feel I’m flapping around in the sky and I haven’t found my landing spot yet and I’m just dipping my toe into different things to see what it would feel like.”

Speaking about the incredible new roles she has taken on, Roseanna continued: “I never said I see myself in radio, I never said I see myself collabing and bringing out a makeup palette, but I really do see now that the world is my oyster.

“What I’m trying to do is honour my daughter and remember her name, and I suppose live life the way I want to live it now. Her passing has brought me such an appreciation for life, and it’s made me want to live it on my terms, and it’s made me very grateful.”

IN MEMORY

At the launch, Roseanna also shared that the makeup line is “a piece of my heart” and something that has “helped turn my grief into something good”.

She added that it’s “not just makeup but memory and mission, bottled and shared”.

She paid a touching tribute to her daughter, opening up about the life lessons Saoirse left behind.

Roseanna said: “Saoirse gave love freely and she continues to guide me every single day. One of the things I’ve come to hold most sacred on this journey is time.

“I want to say this to you all tonight, time is so important, we are all running the rat race.

“Time is something to be grateful for, time allows us to make precious memories, time allows us to reflect and grow, and time allows us all to make a difference. But time is also something that Saoirse ran out of and that truth is something that I carry every day. It’s why I wake up every morning and practice gratitude, even on the hardest days.”

‘That is BRUTAL’ people cry as a tattoo artist shows off a man’s hair tattoo that’s giving ‘Lego businessman’ vibes

HAIR loss is a sensitive subject to many and can be very distressing, having a negative impact on your confidence.

While some learn to embrace their thinning mane and bald head, it seems that one man has taken a rather drastic approach – getting his ‘hair’ back in the form of ink.

Horrified social media users weren’t so convinced by the bold inking

The artist behind the masterpiece was tattoo whizz Chris Chow – but unfortunately, the man’s new ‘mane’ hasn’t become a major hit online.

Chuffed with his work, Chris, from Dover, Kent, posted the jaw-dropping results on TikTok – and it’s since gone viral for all the wrong reasons.

In the video, which has been viewed more than an astronomical 2.3million times in just one day, Chris showed off the freshly inked head from all angles.

The black ‘tresses’ were significantly darker and longer than the client’s real hair, some of which had a grey and white tint.

The rather bold tattoo also covered only the top of the man’s head – whilst the bottom section still had plenty of his real hair.

The brand new ‘hairdo’ also included a short fringe messily swept to the side and a slightly wavy effect.

Chris, who posts under the username @chrischow113, wrote in the caption: ”This is my work!”

‘That is BRUTAL’

But while the pair may have been delighted with the makeover, horrified social media users weren’t so convinced by the bold inking.

More than 123,000 people gave it a like, as a further 5,118 flooded to comments where many shared their thoughts and tagged their pals.

One TikToker was lost for words, writing: ”can’t believe what I’m seeing.”

Another chimed in: ”JESUS WEPT…That is BRUTAL.”

Meanwhile, someone else took a wild guess as to what the client had asked for to end up with the bizarre ‘hairdo’.

“Lego business man please,” they joked.

Tattoo Do's and Don'ts

    1. Think, think and think some more

Tattoos done on a whim are far more likely to lead to regret than a tattoo you thought long and hard about. Think about why you want what you’ve chosen. And if you still want it after a few months, then get it.

    2. Age restrictions apply

You must be 18 years old to be tattooed in the UK.

    3. Don’t haggle over the price

When you go to a tattoo shop the price is the price. You are paying for an artist’s time and skills, they charge what they believe those things are worth.

    4. Don’t get tattooed while you’re hungry

Eat before you go for your tattoo session and make sure you’re hydrated. You’re about to be subjected to a period of sustained physical discomfort, if you’re feeling a little weak from hunger or you’re dehydrated things will not go as smoothly as they should.

    5. Don’t drink alcohol before you get tattooed

If you are drunk or under the influence of drugs, don’t go for a tattoo. In fact, if your tattooist has anything at all about them they will turn you away if you are clearly under the influence of any intoxicating substances.  I’d also avoid drinking the night before, even a few drinks will thin your blood and make your bleed more.

”I love the way you blended it with his real hair. He looks really happy,” a viewer chuckled.

”That should be an offence,” someone else thought.

The Sun previously wrote about a man whose tribute tattoo of his daughter turned out looking like something out of a horror movie.

Meanwhile, one woman was left mortified after she stepped into a store and realised her and her partner’s matching tattoo was a bad idea.

Or another beauty buff went viral after she showed off how she squeezed into a corset – but everyone noticed the rather unfortunate inking.

Beloved free TV service shutting down in weeks as exact date for closure confirmed – but there’s another way to watch it

A BELOVED free TV service is shutting down in weeks as the exact date for closure is confirmed – but there’s another way to watch it.

Users are now seeing notifications when using the app, confirming the free streaming platform will disappear completely.

    Freevee logo
    Amazon
Freevee is closing down in a matter of weeks forever[/caption]

Amazon Is closing down their popular App

Amazon plans to shut down its stand-alone Freevee app in August, according to an in-app notice to users.

The free, ad-supported streaming service is directing viewers to continue watching Freevee content on Prime Video.

The notice stated: “Prime Video is the new exclusive home for Freevee TV shows, movies and Live TV.

“The Freevee app will be accessible until August 2025. Continue watching your favorite Free Originals and our library of hit movies, shows, and live TV on Prime Video for free.

“No subscription needed. Download Prime Video to get started and sign-in with your Amazon account.”

This shutdown is happening worldwide, but many UK viewers rely on the service for their serving of Neighbours drama and other exclusive content.

    The Freevee App explained

Originally launched in the US as Freedive back in 2019, it then became IMDb TV before finally becoming Freevee when it properly launched in the UK in 2022.

It is the company’s free alternative to Prime Video, with classic and original shows including Judy Justice and the reboot of Aussie soap Neighbours.

Popular original series also include Emmy-nominated reality comedy show Jury Duty, and crime show Bosch: Legacy.

These shows will now be accessible on Prime Video under the “Watch for Free” section.

Because although the app and brand is disappearing, the shows and movies are not.

Instead, they will live within Prime Video with a free label.

    The Move Was Expected

The move doesn’t come as a surprise, as Amazon confirmed back in November 2024 that it was sunsetting the service and integrating its content into Prime Video.

Freevee content was already available through both apps and there had been murmurs earlier this year that the name could be axed after Prime introduced ads.

    What you need to do

If you’re a Freevee user, you’ll need to get yourself sorted before August to keep watching your favs.

    • Download the Prime Video app if you don’t already have it (it’s supported on almost every streaming device and Smart TV in the UK).
    • Sign in with your Amazon account (or create a free one if you don’t already have one).
    • Look for the “Watch for Free” label on content.

All the shows and films you’ve been enjoying on Freevee should still be available without requiring a Prime subscription.

Amazon said in a statement at the time that it had “Decided to phase out Freevee branding.

“There will be no change to the content available for Prime members, and a vast offering of free streaming content will still be accessible for non-Prime members.

“Including select Originals from Amazon MGM Studios, a variety of licensed movies and series, and a broad library of FAST Channels — all available on Prime Video.”

Instead of operating two separate services, the company is consolidating its streaming efforts around Prime Video.

Eddie Hearn slams Manny Pacquiao’s comeback world title shot aged 46 but says it could open door for Conor Benn fight

EDDIE HEARN slammed Manny Pacquiao’s world title shot – but in the same breath says it could pave the way for a fight with Conor Benn.

Pacquiao – four years retired and without a win since 2019 – faces WBC welterweight world champion Mario Barrios on July 19.

Manny Pacquiao and another boxer posing for a photo.

Manny Pacquiao and Conor Benn in 2023[/caption]

The Filipino boxing icon retired in 2021 after defeat to Yordenis Ugas – but continued to tease a comeback.

In 2023, he was even in talks to fight Benn, who was in the midst of his UK Anti-Doping case at the time.

Benn’s promoter Hearn is not a fan of Pacquiao returning straight into a title shot after so many years out and without victory.

But if PacMan is to win – he says it could confusingly open the door for a fight with Benn should the 28-year-old drop back down to welterweight.

Hearn told SunSport: “When we looked at the Pacquiao fight it was coming up to two years ago now, first time, there was no world title on the line.

“It was a big name. We got a lot of criticism about that but I don’t think Pacquiao should be fighting for a world title but good luck to him if he comes through.

“I don’t think he will. But you know, once Conor Benn drops down to 147, he’ll be looking for world titles.”

Benn was due to fight Chris Eubank Jr in October 2022 but he was withdrawn after testing positive for Clomifene – known to boost testosterone.

Boxing match graphic comparing Manny Pacquiao and Mario Barrios' stats.

He was provisionally suspended by the British Boxing Board of Control – while vowing to prove his innocence.

Eventually, the case was dropped against Benn meanwhile he had two 150lb catchweight wins in America.

He then faced Eubank Jr, 35, in a middleweight grudge match in April – losing a thriller over 12 rounds with the rematch set for September 20.

So Benn will stay at middleweight for now – dashing hopes of a welterweight world title challenge.

Pacquiao’s advisor Sean Gibbons was forced to defend the eight-division champ’s comeback title shot amid criticism from Hearn & Co.

Gibbons told us: “There should be no criticism. Manny Pacquiao coming back didn’t need to be ranked anywhere. He just needed the opportunity.

“He deserved it for what he’s done in the sport. I mean, people can criticise it all day. Klitschko did it, he came back very successfully.

“I can show you ten guys in that rankings, who shouldn’t even be ranked so don’t be bitching about it!

“Manny Pacquiao, at 75 per cent could beat most of the the top 20. So people are always gonna criticise.”

Fans had panicked that the show could have come to an end[/caption]

The streaming giant launched the fourth series of the show last month but little had been said on the fate of the show until now – causing fans to panic.

Show bosses have now revealed that the programme – starring Jeremy Allen White – is very much making a comeback for a fifth incarnation.

The show streams on Disney+ internationally and is broadcast via FX in the US.

Lead star Jeremy picked up a Golden Globe for his role in the show in 2023.

Confirming their plans for the show, John Landgraf, the Chairman of FX, said: “The Bear continues to be a fan favorite worldwide and their response to this season – as seen through incredibly high viewership – has been as spectacular as any of its previous seasons.

“Year-in and year-out, Chris Storer, the producers, cast and crew make The Bear one of the best shows on television.

“We are excited that they will continue to tell this magnificent story.”

The show sees fine dining chef Carmy return home to Chicago to help run his family’s sandwich shop.

Played by Jeremy, the chef has to fight to transform the show and ensure its survival.

Previously declaring their excitement for the show, one fan said: “Yessss! Too good not to be renewed.”

A second added: “I cannot wait honestly!!”

While third penned: “I need 20 seasons of this.”

A synopsis for the latest series read: “It’s a losing battle every single day in the restaurant business. Carmy pushes himself harder than ever, and demands excellence from his crew, who do their best to match his intensity.

“Their quest for culinary excellence will propel the crew to new levels and stress the bonds that hold the restaurant together.

“As the team grows in size, each member will strive to reach a greater level of service within their role. In the restaurant industry, you’re never on solid ground, and with that ever-changing landscape comes new challenges and opportunities.”

    THE HISTORY OF DUNNES STORES

DUNNES Stores opened its first store on Patrick Street in Cork in 1944 - and it was an instant hit.

Shoppers from all over the city rushed to the store to snap up quality clothing at pre-war prices in Ireland’s first ‘shopping frenzy’.

During the excitement, a window was forced in and the police had to be called to help control the crowds hoping to bag founder Ben Dunne’s ‘Better Value’ bargains.

Dunnes later opened more stores in the 1950s and began to sell groceries in 1960 – starting with apples and oranges.

The retailer said: “Fruit was expensive at the time and Ben Dunne yet again offered Better Value than anyone else in town.

“Over time, our food selection has grown and that spirit of good value has remained strong.

“Now we offer a wide range of carefully-sourced foods from both local Irish suppliers and overseas.”

The retailer’s first Dublin store opened its doors in 1957 on Henry Street and a super store on South Great Georges Street was unveiled in 1960.

They added: “In 1971, our first Northern Irish store opened, and many others soon followed.

“Expansion continued in the 1980s in Spain, and later into Scotland and England.”

Dunnes now has 142 stores and employs 15,000 people.

Khamzat Chimaev forced me to ‘get rid of crappy teeth’ – Robert Whittaker details aftermath of horror UFC injury

ROBERT WHITTAKER has detailed the aftermath of the horror injury inflicted on him by Khamzat Chimaev, which led to him getting new teeth.

The former middleweight champion and fan favourite locked horns with the Russian wrecking machine last October at UFC 308 in Abu Dhabi.

Chimaev’s face crank pushed back three of Whittaker’s lower teeth and left him a bloody mess[/caption]

Whittaker was, on paper, set to be the toughest test of the undefeated Chimaev’s stop-start career, with many believing he’d be the man to put the Chechen clubber through the gauntlet.

The opposite ended up happening, with Chimaev mauling and submitting him with a nasty face crank in just over three minutes.

The Aussie immediately tapped to the submission, which had a devastating effect on his bottom row of teeth.

The force of Chimaev’s crank PUSHED IN Whittaker’s gnashers, which have troubled over the years, and left his mouth a bloody mess.

And he was forced to get new teeth implanted as a result of the devastation caused by Chimaev.

In an exclusive interview with SunSport, Whittaker laughed as he said of the viral injury: “My teeth got moved in and I got ’em straightened up.

“And then [I got them] taken out and spent some time with the family over Christmas.

“And I also had some time off and focused on some other projects and went back to training and worked on some new skills.

    “And here we are.”

Whittaker doesn’t miss his old teeth, which were so troublesome over the last 15 years that he wasn’t able to take a proper bite of an apple.

“They were crappy teeth,” the 34-year-old said. “So I just got rid of them.”

Whittaker will bid to get back in the win column on July 26 in the main event of the UFC’s latest card in Saudi Arabia.

Standing across from him on fight night will be surging contender Reinier de Ridder, who is fresh off a sensational stoppage victory over former hot prospect Bo Nickal and riding a three-fight win streak.

Robert Whittaker will feature in the headline fight at UFC® FIGHT NIGHT: WHITTAKER vs. DE RIDDER. UFC returns to Abu Dhabi on July 26th, tickets are currently on sale via Ticketmaster.

Craig Casey shares hilarious ‘fear’ weighing on him before captaining Ireland for first time vs Georgia

CRAIG Casey will captain Ireland for their summer Tests against Georgia and Portugal.

Interim boss Paul O’Connell has put his faith in the Munster scrum-half to lead his team out in the absence of captain Caelan Doris.

4 November 2022; Ireland captain Craig Casey leads his side onto the pitch before the match between Ireland A and All Blacks XV at RDS Arena in Dublin. Photo by Brendan Moran/Sportsfile
Casey won’t be hoping for a repeat of when he captained Ireland A team against the All Black XV

Since Andy Farrell selected a record number of Ireland players to tour Australia with the British and Irish Lions, O’Connell has been left with a majorly inexperienced squad for the summer Tests.

Captain Doris was unavailable with a shoulder injury and Dan Sheehan – who captained Ireland against Wales in the six nations when Doris was injured – was selected for the Lions.

With other seasoned internationals such as James Ryan and Jack Conan also being selected for the Lions as well as retirements from Cian Healy, Peter O’Mahony and Conor Murray, the captaincy was left to the 26-year-old.

When speaking to Virgin Media he spoke about what it means to him to be given the Ireland captaincy for the summer Test matches.

He said: “It was brilliant. It’s probably not something you dream about when you are younger. Captaining Ireland is probably something that is way out of my league of what I thought I could do when I was younger.

“When you see the calibre of players that have never captained their country I think it is very special for me.

The former Ardscoil Rís captain was asked what will be going through his head as he leads his Ireland teammates out onto the pitch to face Georgia and his response was an unexpected one.

He answered “Firstly I hope the mascot isn’t taller than me like the (Ireland) A game.”

The Limerick native’s first taste of international captaincy came when the Ireland A team faced the All Black XV in the RDS Arena in 2022.

An image of him leading the team out went viral as the mascot was taller than the Ireland A captain.

The 5,5 star will be hoping for a different result in Tbilisi as they ran out 47-19 losers and he is also hoping for a shorter mascot.

Casey added: “I’ll be massively proud, it’s going to be a huge occasion obviously for my family and all the people that have put a lot of time into me.

“It will be a huge honour to lead out my country for the first time and I’ll be hoping to put my best foot forward.”

This means that you can burn in the UK, even on days when it’s cloudy.

”There’s no safe or healthy way to get a tan. A tan does not protect your skin from the sun’s harmful effects.”

The station is also recognisable because of its 67m-high clock tower, which has four faces.

However, the clock is always two minutes fast. You might think this is strange, but actually, it’s completely intentional and so that passengers are on time and don’t miss their trains.

The platforms at Limoges station are also built below ground level, so they wouldn’t affect the views of the city.

And the underground tunnels were even used during WWII, when it was occupied by German Troops as a shelter between 1942 and 1945.

However, the station was almost destroyed after a fire in 1998, which started in the domed roof.

Luckily, the fire was put out before it could damage any other parts of the site, and a year later, the roof was rebuilt.

Tourists have raved about the beauty of the station, with one saying: “One of the most beautiful gare/ train stations in Europe.”

Another said: “The building is absolutely gorgeous, and well worth visiting just for the architecture even if you don’t happen to be going anywhere by train.”

But for anyone who wants to know and see more of the station, you can take your own tour around it.

These are are organised by the City of Art and History tour guides.

The tour tells the story of the station over the course of an hour and costs €6 (£5.18), €4 (£3.45) for children between six and 18, and it’s free for children under six.

Limoges is part of the Limousin region, and you can discover it via a steam train as well.

There are lots of different tours to choose from which end at various destinations like Eymoutiers, Brignac and Bugeat.

The longest journey is from Limoges station to Bugeat where passengers board one of the historic steam-powered trains.

The first stop is to Brignac, a small town on the Vienne River where passengers get to take off and go for a hike in-between stops.

The walk heads to a paper mill called Moulin du Got and St-Léonard-de-Noblat.

This trip to Eymoutiers takes around two hours and the website advertises musical entertainment and historical commentary onboard – prices for the tours start from €16 (£13.81).

Here’s a full list of holiday destinations you can still fly to for under £15 this month – including Limoges.

And the Sun’s Alex West explored Limoges by luxury convertible – here’s how to copy his French road trip.
