FIVE Man Utd stars including Rashford want to leave as club tell them they can stay away from start of pre-season

MANCHESTER UNITED have told FIVE stars they can stay away from pre-season training on Monday to sort out their futures.

The Red Devils have confirmed Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia all want to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Boyhood hero Marcus Rashford has been linked with Barcelona

So they have been given extra time off to try to finalise moves while Ruben Amorim and his squad begin their preparations for the 2025/6 campaign.

Meanwhile, United also announced on Friday that new boy Matheus Cunha has been given the No10 shirt previously worn by Rashford.

Sources close to the England forward had said earlier in the day that he would report back to the club’s HQ on July 7 and be 100 per cent committed.

However, as exclusively revealed by SunSport last month, the club has decided there is no point in any of the five doing that – so their return has been put on hold until later in July.

United say their medical and rehab facilities will be available to the quintet if they wish to use them.

If their futures are not resolved in the next few weeks, they will be asked to return to Carrington at that stage.

Amorim was back behind his desk on Friday ready to welcome his players back from their summer break next week.

Tyrell Malacia has returned from his six month loan at PSV

Their only senior addition to the squad this summer is Cunha – who has arrived from Wolves in a £62.5 million deal.

He has been given the No 10 shirt – a clear indication that there is no way for Rashford with his boyhood club.

The 27-year-old’s representatives were informed of the decision in advance with the forward eyeing a summer move to Barcelona or Bayern Munich.

His hopes of sealing a dream switch to the Nou Camp were boosted on Friday when Nico Williams signed a contract extension with Athletic Bilbao.

The word coming out of Spain was that the Catalan giants were confident of signing the Spanish international winger.

That would have left them struggling for the funds to seal a permanent move for Rashford – however they will now be forced into a re-think.

United return to action with a friendly against Leeds in Stockholm on July 19.

They then embark on a three match tour of the USA before returning to Manchester on August 4.

Sunsport reported last month that Rashford, Sancho, Antony and Garnacho would all be left behind when their team-mates head to North America.

GAA urged to follow amazing gesture of Italian football club & gift free team jerseys to newborns ‘to create bond’

THE GAA has been urged to follow the example of an Italian footie club and gift free jerseys to newborns in their counties before they even leave the hospital.

Serie A team Bologna FC have teamed up with the city’s local authority on a new initiative that sees a free jersey given to every baby born in the city.

These tiny jerseys are delivered to new parents who register with the club in a bid to establish a connection with the team from day one.

Cork Fine Gael Senator Eileen Lynch has called on the GAA to copy the Italian club’s move and provide free county jerseys to all babies born across the country.

The rep has asked Cork GAA to become the first county board to do this by teaming up with jersey producer O’Neills.

She said: “I’d encourage Cork GAA, other county clubs and O’Neill’s to follow Bologna FC’s lead and consider this initiative as a way to develop community spirit and strengthen local identity.

“Introducing this initiative would help demonstrate our strong sense of community spirit to all the community.

“It tells all new parents that they and their children are part of something bigger, they are part of a proud supportive community with a rich history.”

Senator Lynch believes that Cork GAA should lead the way on the initiative to show other counties that this could be done across the country.

She said: “Cork is a county with a rich GAA history that is underlined with both passion and pride.

“As we head into the All-Ireland hurling semi-final, support for our team has never been stronger.

“GAA clubs across the country endeavour to foster a sense of community and create a bond with fans from a young age and gifting a welcome kit to all newborns would be a lovely starting point.”

Aldi’s £1.25 kitchen staple will eliminate English ivy from your garden & stop it creeping over neighbour’s walls

AN expert has revealed a £1.50 hack to stop English ivy from overtaking your garden.

English ivy is a charming-looking plant, which can make your outdoor space look like a serene haven.

However, it grows rapidly, and can end up overtaking your garden, and creeping over your neighbour’s wall.

Ivy can grow up to a whopping 30m tall, and produces aerial shoots that allow it to easily cling to walls, trees and fences.

Tara Besore, who has a gardening blog called Hammer & Headband revealed how she successfully managed to prevent ivy from taking over her garden.

She said: “Stopping it [ivy] seemed impossible, but eventually I got rid of every last ivy root and vine in my yard.

“Here’s what you need to know to remove English ivy for good.”

The gardening whizz tried cutting and pulling up the ivy and spraying herbicides on it, but found that neither of these methods worked properly.

However, she revealed that solarisation worked a treat on even the densest patches of ivy.

“It doesn’t strain your back, and it doesn’t require chemicals”, she said.

“All it takes is patience.”

To try out this hack, she explained that all you need is a black plastic sheet, such as a bin bag.

“After spending a summer getting nowhere with brute force, I turned to the solarisation method,” Tara said.

“This involves letting the sun scorch the ivy under plastic.”

Wrap your ivy in bin bags, and then secure it firmly with bricks or stakes.

Tara explained that this method deprives the plants of water.

Top gardening trends of 2025

Gardening experts at Barnsdale Gardens has shared the top gardening trends of 2025.

Matrix planting

It seems that a top planting trend for this year is going to be Matrix Planting.

In essence, planting in groups or blocks to give an effect of being wild whilst actually being carefully managed.

Selection of the plants is essential, to give year-round interest either with flowers, seed heads or frosted/snowy spent flower heads. Some recommend using plants that seed around, but this could make managing your matrix planting harder to keep under control.

Chrysanthemum comeback

I hope that the humble Chrysanthemum makes as much of a comeback this year as Dahlias have over recent years, because the simple single flowered types, such as ‘Innocence’ and ‘Cottage Apricot’ would be spectacular within a matrix scheme.

The hardy varieties are so easy to grow in a sunny spot and give such a valuable burst of late summer and autumn colour that would lift any dull- looking border.

Blended borders

For some time now we have been promoting the growing of veg within ornamental borders and I think this could really take off this year.

The choice of ornamental-looking varieties available in seed catalogues is phenomenal and, if managed correctly, visitors to your garden will not even realise that you have veg growing!

Must-have tool

My secret is out. I discovered the Hori Hori a couple of years ago and now it seems so is everyone else.

It is such a well-made, adaptable tool that can be used as a trowel or weeding tool in the garden that and everyone I speak to who have used it absolutely would not now be without it. Enough said!

“It cooks in the heat, permanently killing the ivy, the roots, and even the seeds so it can’t grow back”, she said.

Once the ivy has turned brown and brittle, you can easily pull it up out of the ground and clear it away.

Bin bags are super cheap, and you likely have them in your kitchen cupboard.

If not, you can pick them up from Aldi for £1.25.

The power outage hit the Czech Republic today, July 4, affecting the capital Prague and some surrounding areas.

Most of the city was affected for almost the entire afternoon with the metro transport service stopped for hours.

Terrified citizens and tourists were left trapped in hotel elevators across the city.

Police and emergency teams worked to help those who needed assistance.

Police officials initially reported that they had little information about the outage.

People were left with no access to cash during the blackout with ATMs shut down.

Best tennis betting sites in Ireland: Our top bookies for Wimbledon 2025

JULY is here, and that can only mean one thing: Wimbledon is back! The world’s most iconic tennis tournament got underway this week and Irish betting sites have got a ton of offers and specials lined up for punters.

In this guide to the best tennis sites in Ireland, we break down all of the best bookmakers for tennis betting, highlighting their bonuses, the best markets to bet on, and more.

🎾 Top tennis betting sites in Ireland

🎾 A closer look at the best tennis sites in Ireland

Our team have used our Sun Factor review system to determine that the following ten bookmakers are the best tennis betting sites currently available in Ireland.

1. bet365

bet365 came out on top when we were choosing the best tennis sites in Ireland for a number of reasons. Firstly, it is one of the most respected operators in the business, serving up a user-friendly customer experience with a ton of bonuses and promotions to enjoy.

When it comes to tennis, the site outperformed every other operator, running an impressive selection of Wimbledon-themed promotions throughout the tournament. The bookmaker has a daily bet builder boost of up to 25% that is available on every game, as well as boosts for individual markets throughout the day.

The operator is also home to some of the best Wimbledon odds around, providing extensive coverage of each game, as well as brilliant in-play betting odds.

2. BetVictor

BetVictor is another leading operator that has gotten well and truly into the swing of things for Wimbledon this year. The operator is serving enhanced prices throughout the day, as well as brilliant in-play betting options and markets. Further to this, it is running an exclusive free bets offer for new customers where punters can get up to €40 in free bets when they €10 on any Wimbledon match.

3. 888 Sport

When it comes to in-play tennis betting, few operators can compete with 888 Sport. The site’s live Wimbledon coverage is superb, with some of the best in-play markets you are likely to encounter in Ireland. Each individual match will offer brilliant odds on game winners, set winners, correct scores, over/under markets, and more. While there are no Wimbledon live-streams, the site also provides excellent visual coverage and play-by-play for some matches.

4. NetBet

NetBet has established itself as a popular spot for Irish bettors in recent years, and its Wimbledon and general tennis coverage is up there with the very best. Its biggest selling point, aside from having dedicated sections to both the men’s and women’s sides of the tournament, is that it has some of the best outright odds around.

It is also one of the best for future outright markets, often providing competitive odds for major tournaments months in advance. While it does not offer tennis-specific bonuses, you will receive some great price boosts during Wimbledon, and the Bet Builder can be used on a variety of sports.

5. Betway

If you’re looking for price boosts, then Betway would be my top pick. The Betway Boosts feature runs offers throughout Wimbledon and other major tournaments, ensuring its punters have access to some of the best prices on the market.

I am also a big fan of the Betway website and its live-betting experience. The number of stats available here is very impressive for a sports betting site, giving punters the chance to make informed betting decisions.

6. TonyBet

TonyBet is a popular choice for Irish sports bettors, offering coverage of all sports, with its tennis options being a significant selling point.

The site offers extensive coverage of tournaments throughout the year, encompassing all major ATP events and frequently providing some of the best odds and markets for the Grand Slams.

Its Wimbledon coverage is particularly impressive, with daily price boosts and solid in-play betting options available.

7. SBK

SBK burst onto the scene in 2019 and wasted no time in establishing itself as a popular choice for Irish bettors. When it comes to mobile betting options, there are very few out there that can compete with SBK in terms of quality, with the mobile app being extremely user-friendly and boasting a slick design.

From a pure betting perspective, it’s Wimbledon coverage is top-notch, with regular price boosts and specials available. The site also offers great odds on the other Grand Slams throughout the year.

8. kwiff

Kwiff is a site that has quickly become a favourite for Wimbledon and tennis betting in Ireland in recent years. The operator’s Super-Charged prices bonus makes betting there extremely attractive, with the site applying huge boosts on randomly selected games and events.

This is not just a site that relies on one promotion to attract players, though, with its tennis betting markets in general being consistently reliable. Throw in an excellent mobile betting experience, and Kwiff is an operator we are more than happy to recommend.

9. talkSPORT BET

Another relatively new sports betting site that has established itself as a firm favourite among Irish bettors is talkSPORT BET. The operator’s Wimbledon coverage is excellent, with daily price boosts ensuring there are plenty of value bets up for grabs.

We are huge fans of the talkSPORT BET mobile app, with the app being really easy to use on both Android and iOS systems. The in-play betting coverage here is also great, with the site providing in-depth stats and play-by-play breakdowns.

10. Spreadex

Finally, if you are looking for a good lay-betting site for tennis, Spreadex is going to be the one for you. While the site does not offer as many bonuses and promotions as some of the others on this list, it is often among the earliest to offer odds for Grand Slams and other major tournaments, and they are normally some of the best on the market.

Of course, it is not just a lay-betting site, with the operator also offering traditional betting options for tennis.

🎾 The biggest tennis tournaments to bet on

Among the top contenders, bet365 stands out by offering over 200 One of the reasons tennis is so popular with bettors, aside from being a fast-paced and exciting sport, is that it has a jam-packed calendar. Punters will find regular events throughout the year to bet on. Of course, the biggest attractions for Irish bettors are the Grand Slams, with the four major events taking place throughout the year.

Wimbledon

Wimbledon is undoubtedly the most iconic of the four Grand Slams. The event takes place annually in the UK, starting at the end of June and lasting for two weeks through the middle of July. It is the oldest of the four Grand Slams, with the first ever edition of the event taking place in 1877. The tournament is held on grass, with the final being one of the most viewed sporting events of the year.

Carlos Alcaraz is the reigning champion, with the Spaniard defeating Novak Djokovic in consecutive finals to become a two-time champ. Czech sensation Barbora Krejčíková won the Women’s final in 2024, defeating Italian Jasmine Paolini to secure a second career Grand Slam and first Wimbledon trophy.

Australian Open

The Australian Open is the first of the Grand Slams to take place in the calendar year. The event is held in Melbourne every January and takes place on hard courts.

For Irish bettors, the biggest challenge when it comes to the Australian Open is its timing, with matches often taking place throughout the night.

For players, the weather presents a unique test, making it one of the most intriguing tournaments of the year. Jannik Sinner and Madison Keys are the reigning champions.

French Open

The French Open, also known as Roland-Garros, is held in Paris in May/June, a little over a month before Wimbledon. The trophy is contested on the tournament’s iconic red clay court and has proved to be a tough test for Irish and British tennis players over the years.

Like Wimbledon, Carlos Alcaraz has dominated at Roland-Garros over the last few years, securing a second consecutive title by defeating world number 1 Jannik Sinner in this year’s final. Coco Gauff took the women’s title for the first time in her career, defeating Aryna Sabalenka.

US Open

The final Grand Slam of the year takes place across the pond in New York in late August/early September. The tournament is often a fantastic way to round off the summer and provides plenty of excellent betting opportunities.

The last edition of the tournament saw Jannik Sinner win the men’s final, with Aryna Sabalenka winning the women’s.

Other notable tournaments

As we’ve already mentioned, one of the biggest draws for betting on tennis is that the sport has an incredibly active calendar. Aside from the four Grand Slams, there are many other excellent opportunities throughout the year.

The ATP Masters 1000 and the WTA 1000 events are going to be the biggest draws for sports bettors. Events like the Miami Open, the Paris Masters, the Canadian Masters, and the Cincinnati Masters always receive a lot of attention.

They will feature all of tennis’s top stars competing for prizes. All the major sports betting sites covered in this tennis betting guide will offer odds on these events, with some receiving more attention than others in terms of price boosts and promotions.

🎾 What types of betting bonuses are available for tennis?

While Irish sports betting sites will certainly up the ante when it comes to bonuses during Wimbledon, you will also find many bonuses are available throughout the year. The following are the most common types of bonuses you will find at top tennis betting sites.

Bet boosts

Bet boosts are extremely common in tennis betting markets, especially during the Grand Slams. These do as their name suggests, boosting the odds of a specific betting market to give players better value. For example, you might get a price boost on Emma Raducanu to win a match from 2/1 to 3/1.

Matched bet bonus

Matched bet bonuses are one of the most popular types of tennis betting bonuses you will encounter. These offer a deposit match of a certain amount with free bets. For example, if you bet £10, you might receive £10 in free bets.

Free bets

While tennis-exclusive free bets may only be available during Grand Slams, most bookmakers will run free bet bonuses throughout the year that can be used on any sports you like. Free bets are free funds given by the bookie that punters can use on an event at no cost to themselves.

🎾 Tennis betting markets

Now we’ve taken a look at the most popular tournaments to bet on, and the kind of promotions you will encounter at top tennis betting sites, let’s explore the most popular tennis markets to bet on in Ireland.

Match winner

Match winner is far and away the most common market for punters to bet on. This is a simple bet on the outcome of a match. For example, you might back Carlos Alcaraz to beat Novak Djokovic. Unlike other sports, a tennis match can not end in a draw, so you will only have player A or player B to choose from.

Handicaps

A handicap market in tennis works exactly the same as it does in other sports. These markets apply a hypothetical handicap for or against a player to help make the odds more interesting. For example, you might bet on Alcaraz to win with a -1.5 handicap, which would mean they would need to win by two sets for your bet to be successful.

Total sets/total games

Unlike many other sports, the length of a tennis match is not predetermined. A player can cruise to a comfortable 3-set victory, or a game can go for five sets, with each set having up to 13 games if a tie-break is needed. As such, you will find over/under betting lines available on the number of sets and/or games in a match. For example, a match might have an over/under 39.5 games.

Set betting (scores)

Set betting is when you bet on the overall score of a match. Tennis matches are either contested over three or five sets, so you will bet on the relevant score for that match type. For example, you might back Aryna Sabalenka to beat Iga Swiatek 2-0.

Tournament winner & other outrights

This is an outright bet on who you think will win a tournament. For example, you might back Carlos Alcaraz to win Wimbledon. Other bets you will find in the outright section typically involve the stage a specific player will reach. For example, you might bet on Ben Shelton to reach the quarter-finals.

Bet builders

Bet builders are an excellent way of spicing up a tennis match. For these, you build your bet from different markets and propositions. For example, if you bet on a match between Aryna Sabalenka and Emma Raducanu, you could bet on Aryna Sabalenka to win the match, the number of games in each set, who will win the first set, the correct score, and whether a player will break a serve. It is worth noting that bet builders are not available at all tennis betting sites.

🤔 Choosing a sportsbook for tennis betting

With so many top sports betting sites offering tennis betting options, it can be tricky to know which ones are the best. For this guide, we applied strict criteria and used our Sun Factor review system to determine the best ones to recommend.

The following are some of the key factors you should consider when choosing the best tennis betting site for you.

Offers/promotions: As we have highlighted throughout this guide, bonuses and promotions are an excellent way of enhancing your tennis betting experience.

Whether it’s free bets, bet boosts, or tournament special promotions, it is always best to check what promotions a bookie has to offer. You should also check through the terms & conditions thoroughly, as the last thing you want is to be stung by some nasty wagering requirements.

Number of tennis markets and tournaments covered: Of course, if you are looking for the best tennis betting sites in Ireland, then examining their tennis markets and odds is an excellent place to start. When reviewing a tennis betting site, we check through all of the available tournament and individual match markets.

While most top sports betting sites will cover the Grand Slams, the best operators are the ones who provide extensive coverage of smaller tournaments throughout the year as well.

Streaming: In-play betting is an important part of the modern sports betting experience. Tennis is one of the most heavily featured sports when it comes to live-streaming, with many operators providing live-streams of smaller tournaments throughout the year.

Unlike other sports, some of the bigger events are also covered by bookmakers, with several sites offering live coverage of the Grand Slams.

App (yes or no): Like in-play betting, mobile betting is also an essential part of modern sports betting.

If you’re anything like me, then you will do the majority of your betting on your phone, so having an app that is easy to access and use is extremely convenient.

UX/interface: A site can offer all of the above, but if it is poorly designed and tough to navigate, there’s a good chance you’re going to log out and go elsewhere.

When choosing the best tennis betting sites to recommend, we always factor in how user-friendly a site is and how the overall website/app is designed.

Payment methods (deposit and withdrawal): Finally, the available payment methods offered by a site are also a massive factor in deciding whether it should be recommended or not.

Trump reveals plan to host UFC title fight at WHITE HOUSE in front of 20,000 fans to celebrate America’s 250th birthday

DONALD Trump has revealed plans to host the UFC title fight at the White House next year to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.

The “championship” punch up could take place on the presidential lawn and draw over 20,000 fans.

UFC president Dana White and Trump have a strong relationship

Trump, 79, who is pally with UFC president Dana White and a big UFC fan, announced his ambitious plan at an event in Des Moines, Iowa on Thursday.

It comes just weeks after the president was pictured at the UFC 316 in New Jersey.

Speaking emphatically to the crowd, he called on White to help organise the fight, which he said could take place at the White House because there is “a lot of land”.

He said: “Does anybody watch UFC? The great Dana White?

“We’re going to have a UFC fight. We’re going to have a UFC fight – think of this – on the grounds of the White House.

“We have a lot of land there, we’re going to build a little — we’re not, Dana is going to do it.

“Dana is great, one of a kind — going to be UFC fight, championship fight, full fight, like 20,000 to 25,000 people, and we’re going to do that as part of ‘250.'”

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt later confirmed the plans on X, adding that the president is “dead serious”.

The announcement marks the start of a whole year’s worth of festivities to celebrate 250 years since American gained independence from the British.

Trump’s connections with the UFC date back over two decades, while his relationship with White has always been strong.

The UFC boss backed the president’s political career from the start, calling Trump a “fighter” and endorsing his presidential bid in 2016.

When Trump survived a failed assassination attempt the White declared the president a “tough guy”.

He later called the 79-year-old “the legitimate, ultimate, American badass of all time”.

Later, in an interview with Tucker Carlson at Fox News, he touched on the pair’s strong relationship, calling Trump “great” and a “good friend”.

He said: “This guy has been so good to me it’s unexplainable.

“He’s been a very good friend to me since the day I met him.

“When we bought this company it had such a bad stigma attached to it and the sport that we couldn’t even get into venues, they didn’t want us.

“Donald Trump saw that this thing could possibly be big.

“Plus he’s a sports guy who loves sports, and he offered us to come do the event at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City.

“He cut us a very fair deal and we went down there and did two events with him where he showed up for the first fight and stayed until the last fight.

“Imagine back then; Trump brand is way up, UFC brand is way down, but he took us in and he was great.”

I scrub my council house walls but they’re COVERED in mould & crumbling away – I have two disabled kids, it’s disgusting

AMY Magee previously moved out of a property full of mould and asbestos and hoped her next council home would be more suitable for her and her children.

But unfortunately, the mother has been left disgusted after the council flat, which she has now lived in for three years, is also covered in layers of horrendous mould.

Her mental health is suffering and now, she “can’t think clearly” as a result[/caption]

Not only this, but the walls in her home are crumbling away too.

Amy, 37, from London, took to social media to give her followers an insight into the state of her home, leaving many totally stunned.

As she showed off the walls which are covered in black mould, the content creator and author said: “I’ve actually had enough now – it’s a week today where I reported all of this stuff.

“I have scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed it. Stuff needs to be renewed.”

Not only has Amy had to spend time cleaning, but she’s also been forced to throw away her belongings too, as she confirmed: “I’ve had to chuck every single piece of bedding in here because it was just not washable.”

And not only is the mould in her bedroom, but it’s also in the kitchen and bathroom, as she added: “This is the cupboard in the kitchen. I have painted this probably three, four times knowing full well I’ve actually lived in this property only three years.

“I’m getting to the point where I’ve just had enough, I can’t even think clearly.

“This is my bathroom, who even wants to have a bath in something like this? What the hell?”

The mother admitted that the “absolutely ridiculous” state of her home is now beginning to affect her mental health.

She opened up on feeling “mentally exhausted” and got candid on the “nightmare”, as she shared: “My walls are crumbling and it’s just absolutely disgusting.”

Despite having received “no report” and getting “no answers” from her local council, Amy acknowledged: “The radiator is coming off the wall.

“I’ve obviously said this to them – they’ve come and done building maintenance on my property.

“There is going to be so much work needing to be done on my property.

How can I get a council house?

To apply for a council home, you need to fill out and hand in an application to your local authority.

To find your local authority, simply use the Government’s council locator tool on its website.

Once you have access to your local council’s website, it should offer you guidelines on how to complete your application.

After applying, you’ll most likely have to join a waiting list.

Bear in mind, even if you are put on a waiting list, this doesn’t guarantee you a council house offer.

Your council should also offer you advice on how to stay in your current home and solve any issues you might have, such as problems with a private landlord or mortgage.

You are eligible to apply for council housing if you are a British citizen living in the UK providing have not lived abroad recently.

Each council has its own local rules about who qualifies to go on the housing register in its area, but it is based on “points” or a “banding” system.

For example, you’re likely to be offered housing first if you:

  • are homeless
  • live in cramped conditions
  • have a medical condition made worse by your current home
  • are seeking to escape domestic violence

Once you are high enough on a council’s waiting list, it will contact you when a property is available.

Some councils let people apply at the age of 18, while others let you apply even sooner at 16-year-olds.

EU workers and their families and refugees may also be eligible.

A council house is reached through a points system, so depending on your housing needs, you may be considered low priority.

The council will contact you about any available property once you are high enough on the waiting list.

There is no limit on how long you can expect to be on the waiting list.

“This blind in my living room – it’s got mould spores everywhere.

“And of course, they don’t want to pay back any money that I’ve put into this flat.”

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @amy_magee_209, just 17 hours ago, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed 15,200 views, 234 likes and 189 comments.

Social media users were gobsmacked by the condition of Amy’s flat and many raced to the comments to share advice on what she should do next.

How dare they let you stay there with your children! Take it to the Housing Ombudsman

One person said: “Oh my goodness this is bad.”

Another added: “That is so bad. My close friend got rehoused due to mould and it was nowhere near as bad as this. She was in a flat and now she’s in a beautiful brand newbuild house

What It's Really Like Growing Up On A Council Estate

Fabulous reporter, Leanne Hall, recalls what it's like growing up in social housing.

As someone who grew up in a block of flats on a council estate, there are many wild stories I could tell.

From seeing a neighbour throw dog poo at the caretaker for asking them to mow their lawn (best believe they ended up on the Jeremy Kyle show later in life) to blazing rows over packages going missing, I’ve seen it all.

While there were many times things kicked off, I really do believe most of the time it’s because families living on council estates get to know each other so well, they forget they’re neighbours and not family.

Yes, things can go from zero to 100 quickly, but you know no matter what you can rely on your neighbour to borrow some milk or watch all of the kids playing outside.

And if you ask me, it’s much nicer being in a tight community where boundaries can get crossed than never even knowing your neighbour’s name while living on a fancy street.

“Get Environmental Health round and they’ll give you bidding points. You should get moved!”

A third advised: “Call Environmental Health they can help you get the council to take action.. that needs some proper work doing on it.”

Meanwhile someone else recommended: “This is a disgrace. They should give you another property.

“How dare they let you stay there with your children! Take it to the Housing Ombudsman.”

WIMBLEDON 2025 LIVE: FOLLOW ALL THE LATEST FROM SW19

Sonay Kartal beat former French Open champ Jelena Ostapenko in round one of Wimbledon 2025.

She then stormed into round three for the second year running after a dominant and devastating victory over Viktoriya Tomova on Court No 3.

And Sonay beat French qualifier Diane Parry on Friday, July 4 by straight sets.

Sonay has £152,000 in her back pocket but if she wins two sets, she will add an extra £68,000 to her bank balance.

The British No.3 said: “Obviously tennis is super expensive.

“When I was growing up, I kind of did quite a lot of tournaments on my own because I couldn’t afford to pay a coach week-in, week-out.

“It helped me develop as a teenager, grow up super fast, made me much more mature. I held myself accountable to a lot of things.

“The LTA helped me massively. It came at exactly the right time. It was when I started to come on the scene and was putting together a few good wins consistently.

“They really helped to give me all the equipment and access to everything I needed to develop as well.

“I’ve shot up the rankings. My game style really rocketed.

“My coaches back in the day, they would charge me I guess the lowest fee and would try to help me out as much as possible.

“I was out quite a lot of years injured as a teenager.

“I didn’t pick up a racquet for a couple years. I was kind of a bit inconsistent as I was going through my teenage years.”

Sonay was born in London, but grew up in Brighton with her family.

She is of Turkish descent and her dad owned a “kebab takeaway” and “sit down restaurant”, serving Turkish food.

Off the court, Sonay had been in a relationship with bodybuilder Luke Ogbourn.

He even brought his beau a bouquet of flowers after she qualified for the first round of Wimbledon in 2024.

But the pair have now sadly broken up.

Who is Luke Ogbourn?

Luke Ogbourn is a British bodybuilder and strongman.

Luke had been a visible and vocal supporter of Sonay, particularly during her impressive Wimbledon run last year and her first WTA singles title win at the Jasmin Open, also in 2024.

But he was absent from this year’s competition and it has now surfaced that the pair are no longer together.

Per his Instagram bio, Luke took home the silver medal at the United Kingdom’s Strongest Man U23 competition in 2024, before going one better and securing gold at Iron Beasts 2024.

His profile regularly featured gym routines, rugby matches and highlights from his strongman competitions — but as of July 4, 2025, it seems to have been removed.

The relationship between Sonay and Luke was made public since from November 2023, when their first photo together appeared on Ogbourn’s Instagram.

Their relationship drew more attention during Wimbledon 2024 — Luke supported Sonay online and in person, sharing affectionate messages and congratulating her after matches.

Despite both being athletes, Sonay said that they did not train together, telling the Express in 2024 that they “don’t gym together at all”.

She added: “I don’t lift cars and pull cars and things like that.

“Tennis is very specific training whereas he is just lifting as much weight as physically you can.”
