FOLLOWING Ryanair’s announcement of changing its hand luggage rules, here are the most up-to-date guidelines.
This week Ryanair announced that they would be changing the size of their hand luggage allowance from 40x20x25cm to 40x30x20cm – an increase of 5cm.
GettyThis week Ryanair announced that they would be changing the size of their hand luggage allowance[/caption]
The change in size means that Ryanair’s free hand luggage size has increased from an overall capacity of 20 litres to 24 litres.
All airports will now need to change the size of the baggage sizers for the airline, to be able to check bags against the new measurements.
The rules are expected to be introduced later this month.
The size change comes after new EU rules have been set out, which will ban airlines from charging for small carry on bags.
A Ryanair spokesperson said: “Following the new EU minimum bag size of 40x30x15cm, Ryanair will increase its max “personal bag” dimensions to 40x30x20cm, so that Ryanair’s ‘personal bag’ allowance is bigger than the EU standard
“This change will be implemented over the coming weeks, as our airport bag sizers are adjusted.”
What size luggage can I take on an Ryanair flight?
Ryanair informs it’s luggage sizes for a small, free cabin back, paid for cabin bag and checked luggage on its website.
Additionally, passengers can find information on the airline’s website about what they can and can’t take onboard a flight too.
Hand luggage rules
Current rules for Ryanair’s free small bag that passengers carry on board states that it must measure 40x20x25cm, fit under the seat in front of you and that it can be a handbag, laptop bag or backpack.
However, supposedly this month, these measurements will change to 40x30x20cm increasing passengers’ hand luggage capacity by 5cm.
The bag will remain free of charge to all passengers.
As for cabin baggage – that you take on board and must store in the overhead lockers – the size measurements are 55x40x20cm.
The weight of each cabin bag that goes overhead is not allowed to be more than 10kg.
Overhead cabin bags must also be purchased.
Checked luggage rules
For checked luggage, Ryanair has two weights – 10kg and 20kg.
You can add either of these weights to your booking and it will be place in the aircraft hold.
GettyThe change in size means that Ryanair’s free hand luggage size has increased from an overall capacity of 20 litres to 24 litres[/caption]
Passengers can purchase up to three checked bags of 20kg on their booking.
Checked luggage must be dropped at the airline’s check-in desk at the airport, before passengers proceed to security.
These bags can measure up to 80x120x120cm and are also for purchase.
Ryanair also allows ‘bag pooling’ – a process where you can spread weight between passengers’ checked luggage on the same flight reservation.
This means that you could have two 20kg bags on your booking, totaling 40kg in weight, with one weighing 15kg and the other weighing 25kg.

JOANNA Dennehy is one of the most dangerous women in the UK and 13 years ago, she was Dani Hitchcock’s evil stepmother.
Now, Dani, who is from Peterborough and works in childcare, has bravely opened up on what it was really like to have a triple murderer in her life.
TikTok/@daniemilyxJoanna Dennehy’s stepdaughter has bravely spoken out on what it was really like to have one of Britain’s most dangerous women as a stepmum[/caption]
PAJoanna Dennehy murdered three men and stabbed two more before going on the run[/caption]
PA:Press AssociationJoanna Dennehy, while still on the run from the police[/caption]
Dani Hitchcock claimed that not only did Joanna “rinse” her father’s cash, but she even made her “perform”, when she was just 13-years-oldTikTok/@daniemilyx
Dani described Joanna as an “evil stepmum,” who was far worse than ones you see “in films.”
She claimed that when she first met Joanna, the family went on a trip to the cinema, but Dani acknowledged that her new stepmum barely said a word to her or her brothers.
Dani stressed she had a “gut feeling straight away” that Joanna was “not a very nice person,” as she voiced: “That good impression was never set – [she was a] very cold person, didn’t speak to us, didn’t smile.”
Shortly after her breakup with Dani’s dad in 2012, Joanna, from St Albans, Herts., murdered three men – Lukasz Slaboszewski, 31, John Chapman, 56, and Kevin Lee, 48 – and stabbed two more before going on the run and posting pictures of herself holding a huge knife.
She was convicted of three counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder in November that year.
The court was told she was a diagnosed ‘psychopath’ with a ‘lust for blood’ who had been on probation for other offences when she went on her killing spree.
A judge called her “cruel, calculating, selfish, and manipulative” after a court heard of her murderous antics, which involved mutilating a corpse and squeezing the body into a sequined black dress.
Reflecting on the time Joanna was in her life, Dani described the killer as “really awful” and “so cold”, with “no motherly type of way about her.”
Not only this, but Dani believes that Joanna “resented” her, as she shared: “I don’t think she liked me, she wanted to steal the spotlight that was meant to be on us, she wanted that for herself.”
Dani admitted: “She would make sure that my dad would spend good money on her, and she would absolutely rinse him of his money – she liked that.”
Not only did Joanna spend her father’s “well-earned” cash on herself, but she would also make “very inappropriate comments” too, as Dani confessed: “She once said something along the lines of ‘I’m just going to give this to your dad because I just want to make him like horny’ – you don’t say that to a 13-year-old.”
I got very dodgy vibes off her – she was so cold
Dani Hitchcock
Not only this, but shortly after her clip went viral, Dani uploaded a follow-up video, whereby she got candid on her “bonding time” with Joanna.
Dani explained that Joanna, who she described as an “alcoholic” who would often be “up drinking till early hours of the morning”, wanted to have “bonding time” with her, but it was really “for her own benefit.”
Dani recognised that not only was Joanna “malicious,” with a “wicked mind”, but she was also “very sex-orientated,” and somewhat a “sex-maniac.”
Teaching her ‘pole dancing’
And when Dani was just 13-years-old, she recalled moments where Joanna would teach her provocative dance moves to Do It Like a Dude by Jessie J.
Dani described it as “pole dancing without the pole”, as she bravely expressed: “We practiced these moves for hours upon hours – she kept being like ‘we’ve got to perform it, we’re going to perform it together.’”
Joanna Dennehy's victims
Twisted Joanna Dennehy's murder spree has been labelled the 'most dangerous person' crimologist Christopher Berry-Dee has 'ever, ever come into contact with' - here we look at her chilling crimes.
Dennehy’s first victim was her housemate Lukasz Slaboszewski, 31, on March 19, 2013. She convinced the Polish national that she wanted to meet him for sex before stabbing him in the heart and dumping his body in a wheelie bin,
Falklands War veteran John Chapman, 56, who was also believed to have lived with Dennehy, was murdered by her a week later.
Property developer Kevin Lee became Dennehy’s final victim on March 29. He was her landlord and lover before she ended his life. In a letter to a former lover, Dennehy revealed she dressed Lee in a black sequinned to ‘humiliate him’ and dumped his body in Newborough.
Dennehy also tried to kill two others during her 10-day spree. She recruited accomplice Gary Stretch, 47, and the pair drove to Hereford where she stabbed John Rogers, 64, and Robin Bereza, 57. Fortunately, both of them survived.
Dennehy received a life term for the killings and attempted murders. Stretch was jailed for life after being found guilty of attempted murder.
“It made no sense, and I felt sick as she encouraged me to wiggle my hips – and then suggested we perform a routine for my dad. It was so inappropriate, encouraging a child to be ‘sexy’.
“She lived with my dad for two-and-a-half years, and I never warmed to her. In fact, I got very dodgy vibes off her – she was so cold. It made me feel really uneasy, a feeling which has stayed with me to this day.”
Dennehy robbed a significant part of my childhood and the memories of it linger into adulthood
Dani Hitchcock
Dani confessed to being “emotionally traumatised by her behaviour and presence” which created a “toxic atmosphere” in her household.
She added: “Boundaries were always blurred with her. I dreaded being at dad’s house, but I wanted to see him.
“Dennehy robbed a significant part of my childhood and the memories of it linger into adulthood.
“Her emotional abuse has impacted me. As a result of her behaviour, I cut people off really easily, but thankfully I also forgive easily.”
‘Lucky escape’
Dani’s TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @daniemilyx, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has racked up 176,600 views.
It’s also amassed 5,489 likes and 85 comments.
This is heartbreaking, you all had a very lucky escape from her!
TikTok user
Social media users were gobsmacked to hear Dani’s story and claimed that she and her siblings had a “very lucky escape.”
One person said: “Seems your dad and you had a VERY VERY lucky escape.”
Another added: “My god you all had a very lucky escape. She is pure evil.”
A third agreed and commented: “This is heartbreaking, you all had a very lucky escape from her!!”

A WARNING has been issued over “drunk” seagulls causing chaos in UK seaside towns.
The birds might be behaving strangely due to annual phenomenon.
GettySeagulls might appear ‘drunk’ and disoriented[/caption]
GettySeagulls feed on ants which produce acid[/caption]
Swarms of giant flying ants will take to the skies over the next few days.
It marks the beginning of the insects’ mating season, dubbed Flying Ants Day.
However, the bizarre phenomenon lasts for considerably longer than a day, often two weeks.
But it’s not swarms of ants that people should be aware of.
Seagulls could be seen acting disoriented and having trouble flying as if they are intoxicated.
The flying pests produce an acid which makes seagulls who eat the ants “slightly drunk”.
A spokesman for Sompting Wildlife Rescue told the Argus: “These ants release formic acid as a natural defence.
“In small amounts, it’s harmless, but when gulls gobble down a feast of ants, it can cause them to appear disoriented or ‘drunk’, stumbling around and struggling to fly properly.”
The animal rescue organisation has cautioned drivers to slow down if they see seagulls near the roads.
The birds are especially vulnerable as they might move slower than usual and struggle to avoid the traffic.
The spokesman continued: “If you see a gull behaving strangely by the roadside, please slow down and give them space – they might just need a little time to recover.
“These gulls can show symptoms that look like bird flu, which raises concerns.
“But in many cases, they’re not sick at all.
“Let’s avoid unnecessary action like euthanasia – a bit of fresh water and rest is often enough to get them back on their feet (or wings).
“Let’s help our feathered friends through this odd patch of nature.”
The ants fly in swarms to boost their chances of reproduction and defend themselves against predators, according to the museum.
The ants are triggered to reproduce by a shift in temperature from wet weather to hot humid conditions.
By the end, billions of ants will have taken to the skies.
Flying ants only live up to a couple of days after flying ant day.
This is why it is common to see hundreds of dead ants on footpaths and car bonnets after the event.
What are flying ants and how to protect your home from the swarms:
Often referred to as alates, flying ants are fertile male and female ants whose sole purpose is to reproduce and start a new colony.
The most common type of flying ant is the black garden variety (the Lasius niger), whose nests have a single queen and anything from 5,000 to 15,000 workers.
Flying ants are not dangerous insects and are unlikely to bite.
Even though they’re harmless, flying ants are still annoying – but fortunately, there are many household items which can be used to get rid once and for all.
Spraying with dish-washing soap mixed with water can dehydrate the ants.
Asparteme-based sweeter is said to be effective.
Combining this with juice to form a paste means the critters will carry it back to their colony – killing off some of the ant population in the process.
Distributing some insecticidal powder around window and door openings can also prevent the ants from entering your home.
Rentokil also says to clean up after yourself and keep food and rubbish bags sealed tightly.
Stellantis is now recalling some dieselcars in Europe that were produced between October 2017 and January 2023.
It said almost 930,000 vehicles in France were affected, but did not provide an overall figure for all of Europe.
An additional 117,000 cars were affected in Belgium, the company said.
The manufacturer will be contacting affected owners.
The issue
Reuters reports that the company has said the issue is due to potential camshaft chain issues.
Owners of those vehicles have expressed concern at weird engine sounds which could lead to broken valves or actual engine failure.
Stellantis said in a statement: “Some 2017-2023 Peugeot, Citroen, Opel/Vauxhall, DS and Fiat vehicles equipped with the 1.5 BlueHDi diesel engine.
“May face a premature wear of the camshaft chain, leading to abnormal noise and in the worst-case scenario to a breakage of the chain.
The company added that it was unaware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue.
Warranty Extender
Stellantis said: “The rework consists of a software update and the change of the oil, if needed.
“In addition, a special repairer application has been developed which can detect a possible problem with the chain by analysing the noise of the engine.”
“Under this enhanced policy, Stellantis will cover 100% of parts and labour costs for up to 10 years or 240,000 kilometres, subject to specific conditions,
“This additional policy applies to eligible repairs carried out between 1 January 2023 and 30 June 2025, provided that the vehicle’s maintenance and diagnosis meet the guidelines recommended by the relevant brand.”
The 1.5 BlueHDi diesel engine prompting the recall was developed before the merger by PSA, the maker of Peugeot, Citroen, Opel and DS brands.
Stellantis added that Fiat cars were also affected by the recall.

LOVE Island star Harry Cooksley’s ex girlfriend can be revealed, with fans spotting his secret tribute to her.
The Sun has uncovered that the woman is named Emma, after viewers noticed Harry’s wrist tattoo of the letter “E” and began digging for clues online.

InstagramShe bears a striking resemblance to one of Harry’s co-stars[/caption]
Emma previously shared a sunset selfie to Instagram, where she was seen cosying up to Harry in matching baseball caps, hers bearing an “E” and, his, an “H”.
The image, which has since been deleted, was dated 18 April 2022.
Emma also bears a striking resemblance to one of Harry’s co-stars, sparking comparisons from fans who claim she looks “more like Shakira than Helena”, Harry’s current partner in the villa.
A Love Island spokesperson declined to comment.
During last night’s episode, Helena made her move to reignite things with Harry tonight, but it didn’t quite go to plan.
It’s clear that Helena and Harry have sizzling chemistry, and his pal Dejon was convinced his current partner, Shakira, can’t match it.
As they reflected on Alima and Ryan’s shock departures from the villa last night, Dejon told Harry: “You and Shakira… I don’t know bro.”
Harry asked: “You don’t think she’s me?”
Dejon said: “The way you are with Helena, that’s the H I know, but when you two [with Shakira] are together…”
Harry agreed, admitting their “banter” isn’t the same.
Later in the show, viewers saw Helena tell Meg and Dejon that she wanted to take Harry to the Hideaway.
Meg gave Harry the heads up, before Helena told him directly about her plan in the snug.
But Harry showed a level of restraint that had been missing so far from his villa experience.
He told her: “That’s no good tonight… Because I’ve just taken four earfuls and if I go and do that it’s just another earful and it’s not a good sign.”
Fearing the worst, Helena said: “You’re trying with her [Shakira] for a reason.”
Harry admitted: “I do like her, but obviously there’s always going to be you at the back of my mind.”
He added: “I know I’m going to have to make a decision at some point but it isn’t today… just give me like a day.”
Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.

A GARDA has been praised for going “above and beyond” in helping a tourist at Dublin Airport, after she lost her phone containing priceless family photos.
Aleksandra had visited Ireland and was returning home to Poland when she misplaced her phone at her flight’s boarding gate.
Already in the air when she realised, Aleksandra was lucky when a woman found her phone and texted her fiancé saying she would hand it in.
The phone contained “many sentimental photographs, voice notes and videos” of Aleksandra’s grandfather, who had recently passed away, which were not backed up.
Flying back to Dublin, Aleksandra checked with airport staff, but the phone could not be found.
In a “last-ditch effort”, she approached the Dublin Airport Garda station located near terminal 1.
Garda Grace Roddy was on overnight duty when she heard the story and was determined to help.
Garda Roddy went “above and beyond to assist”, searching throughout the airport.
After little success at first, she eventually returned to the gate that Aleksandra had flown out from and found the phone tucked away in a drawer at one of the airline desks.
She returned it and its much-cherished contents to a delighted Aleksandra on what happened to be her 30th birthday.
Members of the public have come out praising Garda Roddy for her actions in a Facebook post detailing the story.
IRISH PRIDE
One commenter said: “Awh what a lovely story, such a happy ending. Well done Garda Grace Roddy!”
Another added: “Beautiful. Garda Roddy God bless you and continue being that kind and helpful.”
One person took the time to praise An Garda Siochana and said: “That’s what makes the Irish Police different from all other Police forces anywhere.”
Another praised Irish people as a whole, saying: “Sorry lads but this makes me so proud to be Irish”.
Upon returning home, Aleksandra emailed An Garda Siochana to thank them and Garda Roddy for their efforts.
She said: “Ms. Garda Grace Roddy demonstrated genuine empathy, took the time to listen and made every effort to help me get my phone back — even though she was not obliged to do so.
“Her professionalism and willingness to actmade things happen. She found my phone which I truly appreciate.“
