Boy, 8, is found being raised by pack of DOGS in squalid drug den – and can only communicate by barking

AN EIGHT-year-old boy has been discovered being raised by a pack of dogs in a filthy hut and unable to talk.

The neglected youngster can only communicate through barks after being abandoned by his drug-addicted family and kept out of school.

Thai authorities found the boy during a raid on a run-down stilt house in the norther province of Uttaradit this week

They discovered the child living with his mother and 23-year-old brother who were both riddled with drugs, tests showed.

Police visited the hut after the principle of the local school contacted a children’s activist, Paveena Hongsakul, who escalated the case.

Paveena said: “He didn’t speak, he just barked. It was pitiful to see.”

The boy had never been to school properly.

However, his mum did take him in once to scoop up the government support money supposed to be spent on his education, Khaosod English reports.

Paveena said: “His mother hasn’t allowed him to go to school since he received a subsidy for free education.

“After getting the money, she simply kept him at home.”

Neighbours said the 46-year-old mum would beg for money and food at the temple in the local village.

The surrounding families reportedly got fed up with the mum’s reckless behaviour and banned their kids from interacting with the boy.

This left him with only the family’s six dogs to socialise with.

Starved of meaningful human contact, he began mimicking the dog’s behaviour – and even adopted their barks to communicate.

The urgent social visit on June 30 was a joint operation between Lap Lae police officers and Education Ministry officials.

After the adults failed urine tests, they were charged with drug consumption.

A local teacher said: “The house is in a red zone for drugs. The boy had no one, just the dogs to play with.”

The helpless child was placed into car at the Uttaradit’s Children’s Home.

Paveena is monitoring the boy’s case to ensure he receives adequate care.

She said: “The boy will be given a chance at a good life.

“We’ll follow up with him to make sure he gets everything he needs.”

Three fantastic summer sippers from €14.95 in O’Briens Wine including ‘elegant’ Sauvignon Blanc & ‘delicious’ red wine

JUNE proved to be the most hectic month for wine travel in recent years and included a return trip to South Africa, and a wonderful few days in Rioja and Riber del Duero, Spain.

While away it dawned on me that even after some 26 years of discovering and enjoying what wine has to offer, I sometimes forget that wine is a living thing – and as you open a bottle it begins to fade and die.

The demise can be delayed for a very short time, but within days it will become undrinkable.

The aromas will evaporate and it will be unpalatable, for the air we breathe is wine’s worst enemy.

So, what is all the fuss and talk about opening a bottle of wine. . . to let it breathe?

Most wines will become more expressive on the nose after a short exposure to the air. This practice is referred to as “opening up”.

Younger wines, particularly those that prove to be rather tannic, can certainly do with a swirl in the glass. The tannins will not disappear, but that swirl will loosen them up a little.

For wines over four years old I would certainly recommend decanting to aerate them. To allow them to breathe.

Remember, wine is a living thing and will always react to the air as soon as the bottle is opened.

It has little exposure to the air while in the bottle, so pouring a glass, or decanting, will always help.

As soon as you open a bottle of wine what is inside begins to fade and die.

The demise can be delayed, but within days it will become undrinkable.

The aromas will have evaporated, and it will be unpalatable for the air we breathe is wine’s worst enemy.

Most wines can sit there after being decanted and will develop and be very drinkable for some hours.

But the older the wine – and I am generally talking anything over 15 years here – the window of opportunity to taste them once opened can diminish dramatically.

PLEASURE TO TASTE

I once had the pleasure of tasting a minute amount of a 1952 Rioja. It was marvellous. But its aromas and taste seemed to disappear in 30 minutes.

And if you do happen to have a little wine over, pop the cork back in and stick it in the fridge overnight. This will slow the wine’s demise down.

Younger, easy-drinking wines, and particularly those produced in the past three years or so, are generally made to be enjoyed within a year or two after their vintage.

Less than one per cent of the wines produced globally each year are capable of maturing over a long period, developing new notes on the nose and palate.

These, inevitably, happen to be the more expensive bottles on the shelves of your local off-licence.

WORTHY WINES

SPAIN continues to over deliver on quality at all price points.

A visit to two of the biggest producers and suppliers to the Irish market in recent days was very impressive and I will write about them and their wines next week.

As for South Africa, I can’t get over the enthusiasm of its wine makers, particularly the growing number of talented women making great wines across the nation.

I will certainly feature them in the coming weeks.

For now, here are three great new additions to the summer range at O’Briens Wines.

‘One of my closest friends in football’ – Caoimhin Kelleher’s tear-jerking tribute to Diogo Jota including wedding pic

CAOIMHIN Kelleher called Diogo Jota “one of my closest friends in football” in a heartbreaking tribute on Instagram.

Everyone connected with Liverpool FC was plunged into a state of shock on Thursday as news broke of the star forward’s tragic death in a car accident.

The crash also claimed the life of his brother Andre who was a professional footballer too. Their bodies will be laid to rest at a funeral service in their native Portugal on Saturday.

The sense of sadness around the Reds ace’s life being cut so cruelly short is compounded by the fact that he wed his long-term partner Rute just 12 days ago.

Ireland goalkeeper Kelleher reflected on how he’s struggling to come to terms with his pal being gone while sharing a photo in attendance at that joyful occasion less than a fortnight ago.

He conceded: “Jots. Can’t believe I’m writing this right now and I’m finding it hard to put into words. I’m absolutely devastated by this news.

“All my thoughts and condolences are with Rute and their three beautiful kids and Diogo and Andre’s family.

“It was a such a pleasure to get to know you over these years and to share some special memories on the pitch and even more so off it.

“You became one of my closest friends in football. We bonded over all things sports watching any football match we could find often your brother Andre’s game on your iPad.

“I was surprised a lad from Portugal loved sports such as darts, snooker and horse racing so much and some of my best memories were having a laugh watching them with you.

“You were such a fun genuine, normal down to earth and loving family man and always very competitive I’m gonna miss our pre match programme quiz.

“I feel so blessed and grateful to have seen you on your happiest day, the day of your wedding and to be able to share in that day with you was special. I’ll never forget it.

“You were deeply loved by everyone at the club, the city and all over the world.

“It’s gonna hurt for a long time and I’m gonna miss you so much but I feel so lucky to have got know you and have such a good friend. Love you Diogo.”

Jota and his brother died late on Wednesday night when a tyre on his Lamborghini blew out and the car hurtled off the road, catching fire.

The crash occurred on the A52, near the municipality of Palacios de Sanabria at around 12:40am (11:40pm Irish time), local police confirmed.

The dad-of-three was believed to have been driving a luxury acid green Lamborghini Huracan and travelling towards a port in the northern city of Santander.

FERRY PLAN

He was due to catch a ferry this morning after being advised not to take a plane due to a recent lung surgery, according to CNN Portugal.

The Portuguese ace had missed several matches last season after suffering a rib injury in October during a match against Chelsea.

Jota was due to return to Liverpool to take part in the club’s pre-season games which start later this month.

The striker is said to have had lunch with his wife and three children hours before his death in a paradise Atlantic Ocean resort dubbed “the most beautiful land” in Portugal.

Emergency crews rushed to the crash site in the early hours of Thursday morning and managed to put out the flames.

Both brothers were tragically pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Zamora Provincial Council.

Diogo Jota’s loving relationship with ‘number one fan’ Rute Cardoso from meeting at school to heartbreaking wedding post

TOGETHER since their teens, Diogo Jota and new wife Rute Cardoso chased a footballing dream.

When his burgeoning career in their native Portugal resulted in a move to Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, she described herself as his “best friend” and “number one fan”.

It was a shared ambition that would take them back to home town club Porto and then Wolverhampton Wanderers before his trophy-laden glory years at Liverpool’s Anfield.

A couple who met at school aged 13, their marriage a mere 11 days ago sealed a romance that had already produced three cherubic children. Joyous wedding photographs, showing a young family on life’s great journey, are now heartbreaking to look at.

Sons Dinis, four, and Duarte, two, are in the same dark blue jackets, cream waistcoats and blue ties as their footballer father.

A baby girl, not named publicly, wears a miniature tiara and ivory-coloured gown to match her mother.

Now Ruta is a widow at 28. The children lost both a father and an uncle in the terrible early hours crash on a lonely Spanish motorway.

Just 20 hours earlier, Diogo and Rute wrote on social media that their wedding was a “day we will never forget”.

Under one photo, she wrote, “My dream came true” — to which Diogo had replied: “But I’m the lucky one.”

Social media images show family life including trips to Lapland and Sardinia, photos with pet beagles and in red strips of Liverpool on the pitch at Anfield and at Wembley.

It was a love forged in Portugal’s beautiful second city Porto where forward Jota was born in December 1996.

His birth name was Diogo José Teixeira da Silva. As a promising, pacey young footballer he dropped his surname and used Jota which is the local pronunciation of “J”.

Soon, his talents outgrew his local club Gondomar and, aged 16, he moved to lower league club Pacos de Ferreira.

Scout Ivo Rodrigues remembers watching Diogo in 2013.

He said: “My eyes were drawn to him like a magnet. He was the youngest on the pitch but I saw he was going to be a star. He could do things that other ones could not.”

But attempts by Ivo to sign him for Guimaraes proved fruitless.

The year before, an Instagram image showed him with Rute in hoodies and jeans acting like typical teenagers.

In 2015, Jota’s career might have stalled before it really began.
Pre-season tests revealed a heart problem.

Showing maturity beyond his years, he wrote: “I knew it could mean quitting football, but I didn’t believe for a second it was going to happen.”

A natural goalscorer, he would earn selection for Portugal’s international youth teams and soon the big time beckoned.

He was snapped up by Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in 2016 when he was 19.

Rute wrote of his move: “I’m anxious. Diogo only left this week, but I already miss him. We’ve been dating for four years and . . . it makes sense to follow him. In addition to being his girlfriend and best friend, I’m his number one fan, I want to be there.”

However, Diogo would never play for the Atletico first team and a month after joining went out on loan to Portuguese giants Porto.

At the time, his brother Andre Silva, 25 — also killed in yesterday’s fireball crash — was with Porto’s youth set-up.

Scoring eight goals in 27 appearances, Diogo’s performances earned him another loan move the next season — this time to England with Wolves, then in the Championship.

His 17 league goals helped Wolves win promotion to the Premier League and secured a permanent move for a reported £12million.

Wolves finished seventh the next season as they qualified for the Europa League — a competition in which Diogo bagged an 11-minute hat-trick against Turkish side Besiktas after coming on as a sub.

In now poignant comments, he said after that game: “It makes me proud. It’s a story to tell my grandkids when I get old.”

He and Rute were able to enjoy the fruits of his success. Instagram photos she posted show her posing on his shoulders at Disneyland Paris and sight-seeing at the London Eye.

Captioning an image of them together on a sun-kissed beach in the Maldives, she wrote: “And suddenly you see your entire future in one person.”

In September 2020, Liverpool snapped Diogo up for £45million. He and Rute had made it to one of world football’s greatest clubs in the richest and most glamorous league.

Then-Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said of Diogo: “He has the speed, he can combine with other players, can defend, can press. It gives us real options for different systems.

“He’s 23, still far away from being kind of a finished article — he has so much potential.”

A player blessed with the knack of scoring vital goals, he soon became a Kop favourite.

A terrace chant for him, including a reference to Portuguese great Luis Figo, went: “He’s a lad from Portugal, better than Figo don’t you know, oh his name is Diogo!”

In the 2021-22 season, he scored 21 in 55 games — part of an impressive 65 goals in 182 appearances for Liverpool.

Hampered by injuries last season, his final goal for Liverpool showed just what a classy player he was.

In the Merseyside derby, he slalomed past Everton defenders in a packed box before slotting the ball home. His final match was for Portugal — his 49th cap — a victory over Spain to win the Uefa Nations League.

The close season gave him a chance to marry Rute.

Beneath a photo of the elegant couple at the altar, the new bride wrote on social media: “Yes to forever.”

Diogo once described himself as “a small guy that came from Gondomar, where I had this dream”.

With Rute at his side, he perhaps achieved more than he possibly imagined.

A tragedy that, at 28, this supremely talented player and dearly loved husband and dad had so much more to give.

My intimate afternoon with Dave Grohl at The Savoy explains how he won back his wife after his baby with someone else

DAVE Grohl and his wife Jordyn Blum put on a united front as they returned to the Royal Box at Wimbledon in their first public appearance together since it was revealed he had fathered a secret love child with another woman – and I know exactly how he managed to win his partner of 22 years back.

Twelve months is a long time in showbiz and it was a different Dave to the one who visited the famous South West London tennis tournament last June.

The Sun’s Fabulous Assistant Editor (celebrity) Kelly Allen met Dave at The Savoy in 2017 for a press event[/caption]

They appeared together last year where fans noted he seemed “snappy and irritated” – but later in the summer the truth about his infidelity emerged.

His wife was already well aware of the affair and pregnancy but the mea culpa public announcement was a last ditch attempt to save their relationship.

The 56 year old frontman welcomed a baby girl with Jennifer Young, a 38-year-old LA-based, rock-and-roll fan.

“I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage“, he wrote in the post. “I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her.

“I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness.”

He added: “We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together. Dave.”

Since his shock admission, the couple have been trying to get their marriage back on track.

In February those close to them revealed that Jordyn, 49, had “forgiven” her husband.

No one was more shocked by the news than me. I have been a huge fan of Dave since the 90s when he was a drummer in Nirvana and I believed he was one of the ‘good guys’.

I saw the Foo Fighters for the first time in 2003 at the Oxegen Festival in Punchestown, Ireland and was totally obsessed with Dave.

I remember as a young assistant producer back in 2007 working on BBC Radio 1 the excitement around the station broadcasting live backstage at a Foo Fighters gig in Wembley. Fearne Cotton told me beforehand: “Dave Grohl is just the nicest man. He’s so supportive of new musicians.” I was thrilled when I caught a glimpse of him from afar.

It was the same in 2015 at Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Norwich. Everyone at all levels had nothing but good things to say about him.

I saw first hand the former Nirvana drummer stand at the side of the stage watching Catfish and the Bottleman as well as a then much less famous Taylor Swift take to the stage before them.

There was a sense that he wasn’t a typical ‘rockstar’ but a family man as he told the 25,000 strong crowd: “I’m officially obsessed, she might want to get a restraining order.

“To my opening band, Taylor Swift. Taylor and the Swifts. My kids will kill me for saying this, but this one is dedicated to Taylor Swift.”

While he often had lots of women (me included) swooning in his presence it appeared there was no one he had eyes for apart from Jordyn – who he met in 2001.

People always commented about how his eyes lit up when he talked about her and how in love they seemed.

‘My future ex-wife’

He previously revealed he met his wife at the Sunset Marquis Whiskey Bar in Los Angeles in 2001.

He was with the band’s late drummer Taylor Hawkins, who was chatting up Jordyn’s friend.

He revealed: “I spotted these totally hot chicks appear, like a vision – my friend’s date and her friend.

“They didn’t really want to talk to me, probably because I looked gross, so I did what any man in my position would have done: I got them totally drunk.

“In the end, I wound up writing, ‘You’re my future ex-wife’ with my number on a piece of paper and giving it to Jordyn.

The whole family often went on tour with Dave and the band[/caption]

“We started to see each other but then I got a bit freaked out by being in a relationship and stopped calling.

“Anyway, we went on tour and our drummer overdosed. [Tayor later died in 2022 from a separate overdose]. It was bad. Really bad. And it made me put things into perspective.

“When we got back to LA, I called her up and said, ‘Let’s go for a drink’. Just to wind me up, she appeared wearing a wedding ring… and we’ve been together ever since.”

I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness

Dave Grohl

The pair went on to have three daughters together, Violet Maye, 19, Harper Willow, 16 and ten-year-old Ophelia Saint.

The whole family often went on tour with the band with Dave sharing previously: “Having had such a good relationship with my mom and dad, I always imagined I’d have a family myself one day. I just couldn’t see it happening while I was playing in a band and going on tour and being a working, travelling musician.

“Then it dawned on me that you can do both and, fortunately, we are able to. A lot of people struggle with it and [the band] knows how fortunate we are that we can have the luxury of touring less and having our families come out when we want or need them to.”

GROHL MEET UP

Kelly interviewed Dave before his Glastonbury gig[/caption]

Having been to see Foo Fighters more times than I can count, I was devastated when I failed to get tickets to see them headline Glastonbury Festival in 2017 – so I was thrilled when I was sent to interview them in London the day before they went to the festival instead.

I – along with another newspaper journalist – waited excitedly at the posh five-star Savoy Hotel on the Strand, London for our moment with the band.

Eventually, we were ushered into the grand suite with giant opulent velvet sofas and plush floral curtains – it felt like the wrong environment to be sitting down with Dave and his bandmate Taylor.

We swear the whole f**king time. I basically say f**king in every sentence. I think I have anxiety driven Tourette’s

Dave Grohl

We were offered tea poured into fancy tea cups before the chat about what it meant to them to headline at the Pyramid stage at Worthy Farm meant to them.

They had been forced to pull out in 2015 after the frontman fell off the stage and broke his leg in Sweden.

I was utterly charmed by them both – particularly Dave who gave enthusiastic answers to all my questions.

He was particularly amused when I told him headliner Adele had been scolded the previous year for swearing 33 times in 90 minutes.

“You aren’t allowed to f**king swear at the show? Good luck,” he warned the BBC.

“Oh god, they are in for a big surprise with that one. Sh*t I didn’t realise that. We swear the whole f**king time. I basically say f**king in every sentence. I think I have anxiety driven Tourette’s.”

Even his leg injury was treated with humour admitting: “There is no problem with my leg at all.

“The only thing that I can’t do it cross my legs. It doesn’t even go off going through the security in airport. I’m so f**king bummed. I would love to tell that story.”

ROYAL CONNECTIONS

He also revealed close pal Prince Harry [Foo Fighters played the Invictus Games closing concert in 2014] came to see him while he was recuperating from the operation in London.

“Just after surgery, the first person to visit me was Will, the drummer from Coldplay and he brought me a paper. When I got to the hotel then Harry came over. He brought me a gift. It was a pillow you put your iPad on. It was really thoughtful. He’s f**king great. Our nanny Alexis came in and it took her five minutes before she realised she was sitting in a room with Prince Harry. He’s pretty unassuming. He’s great.”

After posing for a snap, Dave said with a glint in his eye “Make sure you watch our set”.

Of course I tuned in at home. Dave took to the stage and said: “Yesterday we were doing an interview and someone said ‘You know you’re not supposed to swear.

“There’s no swearing at Glastonbury.’ I was like ‘What the f**k is that supposed to mean?’ and I guess Adele holds the record for the most f**ks at Glastonbury.

“Now I love Adele but guess what f**k, f**k, f**k….. Ok I think we’ve broken the record. I think that was more than 33.”

I was absolutely bowled over by him mentioning my interview on stage in front of all those people.

While recovering from an affair is never easy – I imagine that charm and cheekiness has him get his marriage back on track.

There is no doubt the loss of Taylor three years ago had a profound effect on Dave but I’m hoping this outing with Jordyn to the tennis means they are on the road to recovery.

Dave Grohl's career timeline

Nirvana’s beat keeper Grohl first pounded his way into the limelight as the powerhouse drummer for grunge gods, Nirvana. With his thunderous rhythms driving classics like “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” he became the heartbeat of a generation. But tragedy struck when frontman Kurt Cobain’s untimely demise in 1994 left fans and bandmates reeling.

Foo Fighters: From grief to glory Grohl swapped his drumsticks for a guitar and microphone, birthing the Foo Fighters in 1995. The band’s debut album, recorded entirely by Grohl himself, was an instant hit. Dave recruited a fine ensemble of musicians to make the band a more collaborative effort and they have gone on to rack up an enviable greatest hits collection including “Everlong”, “The Pretender” and “Learn to Fly”.

Collaborations and cameos: A star-studded rock odyssey! Never one to rest on his laurels, Grohl’s star power attracted collaborations with rock titans like Queens of the Stone Age, Nine Inch Nails and Paul McCartney. His uncanny knack for blending genres saw him jamming with everyone from punk legends to pop icons.

Documentaries and directorial dreams Grohl’s talents extend beyond the stage. He directed the acclaimed documentary “Sound City” in 2013, celebrating the iconic recording studio. His 2014 HBO series “Sonic Highways” took fans on a musical road trip across America, blending history and harmony.

LYON have been slapped with a £172million cash demand to avoid relegation to Ligue 2 – as Crystal Palace’s Europa League hopes hang in the balance.

French financial watchdogs have warned the seven-time Ligue 1 champions that they must balance their books fast or face being forcibly demoted to Ligue 2.

Lyon, who qualified for the Europa League on the pitch last season, are on the brink of an administrative meltdown.

According to L’Equipe, a probe by the Direction Nationale du Controle de Gestion (DNCG) found a giant hole in their finances.

If they fail to plug the £172million black hole, Lyon’s relegation from Ligue 1 will not be overturned, piling on the misery for fans of the former giants.

And the chaos in France could have a ripple effect across the Channel, with Crystal Palace sweating on a potential Europa League reprieve.

The Eagles’ Europa League spot for winning the FA Cup is under threat due to UEFA’s multi-club ownership rules.

John Textor, who owns Lyon through his Eagle Football Group, is selling his 43 per cent share in Palace to New York Jets owner Woody Johnson.

If the French club are successful with their appeal, Palace are likely to be demoted to the Conference League, although they could challenge the decision at CAS.

However, the Eagles will most likely keep their Europa League spot if Lyon are unable to raise the £172million and lose their appeal.

Palace bosses have been in talks with UEFA’s Club Financial Control Body to try and find a solution to the situation.

But a verdict from the governing body has been put on ice pending the outcome of Lyon’s relegation appeal.

In some positive news for Palace, SunSport can exclusively reveal that Eagles midfielder Cheick Doucoure is close to returning to full fitness.

The midfielder missed a chunk of last season due to a knee operation but he is back on the grass ahead of pre-season next week.

Moroccan defender Chadi Riad, who ruptured his cruciate ligament, is also back running, although it is unclear if he will be ready to go straight into the team for the start of next season.

The potential return of the duo could serve as a major boost to manager Oliver Glasner, who is looking to build on last season’s success.

The Eagles finished 12th in the league last season but won the FA Cup — their first ever major trophy.

PROFESSOR Green has revealed the heartbreaking reason he had to pull out of a recent gig.

Earlier this week it was revealed that the rapper, 41, was set to headline Chester 7s Party at the Park concert but had to pull out at the last minute – and now it has been revealed why.

Professor Green – whose real name is Stephen Paul Manderson – cancelled his performance in Northwich on Saturday.

Instead, support act James Haskell performed a two-hour DJ set to keep fans entertained.

In a statement posted on social media at the time, Chester 7s wrote: “Due to unforeseen circumstances Professor Green is unable to perform at Chester 7s tonight.

“Whilst circumstances such as these are outside of our control, we apologise to all our amazing players, officials and guests and thank you for making Chester 7s 2025 an amazing experience for everyone.”

However, now Professor Green has bravely revealed why he was forced to pull out of the gig at the last minute.

Taking to his Instagram Stories, he posted a heartfelt message which read: “My sincerest apologises to @chester7s organisers and fans alike.

“Thank you @jameshaskell for him playing longer than planned.

“I’m reaching out to work out how I can make up for my no-show Saturday. Whatever it takes.

“This doesn’t rest with booker or organisers – I crumbled after three performances and two back to back 21hr days doing all the driving etc myself.

“My head became a very difficult place to be.

“I made it to Chester but not to the stage – I hope I get the chance to make this up to you, if you’ll let me. PG x”

Over the years the rapper has been very honest about his mental health and the importance of not overlooking it.

Speaking to the BBC last year, Pro Green said: “If you have a physical injury it’s your brain that gets you through it – you need mental strength.

“I don’t know why there is a division between physical and mental health, it should just be health – they are intrinsically linked.”

Continuing to open up, the star said: “You don’t realise as a kid things like attachment and abandonment can really affect you – way into your adult life.

“I had behaviours that were directly linked to things that I experienced as a kid, and I think that’s true of all of us.”
