The PGA Tour has confirmed sweeping changes to the way its massive $100million FedEx Cup bonus.

Rory McIlroy won’t be thrilled with the new parachute payout system that the world’s top tour will implement this summer.

Under the new system, the bonus pot will be split into three separate stages, with the eventual FedEx Cup champion earning just $10m.

That figure marks a massive drop from the $25m top prize handed out last year.

That means the Tour will now reward season-long consistency more than playoff performance.

The move that benefits players who top the standings throughout the year – not just at the finale.

McIlroy, currently ranked No.2 in the world, is among those likely to feel the impact.

The Tour Championship format has also been revamped, with the controversial ‘starting strokes’ system scrapped.

That means all 30 players will now tee it up at level par, rather than giving a points-based advantage to the FedEx Cup leader.

As part of the new breakdown:

• The top 10 players after the regular season ends at the Wyndham Championship will share a $20m pool, with the No.1 spot taking home $10m.
• After the first two playoff events, another $23m will be split among those who make it to the BMW Championship.
• The leader after the BMW will pocket $5m.
• The final $57m will be dished out after the Tour Championship, with the eventual FedEx Cup champ receiving $10m.

That’s a sharp shift from previous years, and world No.1 Scottie Scheffler is among those welcoming the changes.

And the three-time major winner is delighted with the news.

He said: “There’s going to be a balance between rewarding guys for having a great regular season, and then giving guys an opportunity to have a great post-season.

“But you’re not going to have an opportunity to win the FedEx Cup unless you have a really good regular season.”

The move comes as the new PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp was backed by Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler.

Rolapp, who brings over 20 years of experience from the NFL where he served as chief media and business officer.

He will officially take over from current commissioner Jay Monahan in 2026.

Monahan, who has held the role for a decade, is expected to assist with a smooth transition.

CORONATION Street star Mikey North has signed a new contract to take him into his 18th year on the cobbles.

The actor – who plays Gary Windass in the ITV soap – recently sparked concern he had left the show when his character failed to appear in episodes for months.

The Sun can exclusively reveal that Mikey has signed on the dotted line for another year that will see Gary back at the forefront of the soap.

A source said: “Mikey loves working at Coronation Street and bosses love having him so it was a no brainer for him to sign for another year recently.

“Gary’s got a huge year coming up and it’s all just kicked off on-screen and it’s just the beginning.

“There’s going to be a lot of Mikey on screens in the coming months.”

Viewers watched recently as Gary mysteriously disappeared after a row with wife Maria.

He had no idea he was being used by Lou as a way to get back at Maria, with her framing him for a cheating night of passion.

Gary stormed out and went to stay with his mum Anna Windass, but then failed to return.

When Maria realised he had left Anna’s and was heading home but had never arrived, she began to worry.

Meanwhile viewers discovered that Gary has been in a coma after being brutally attacked and left for dead.

He is in hospital with a mystery woman calling herself his wife and calling him Chesney.

The mystery of what happened to Gary and who the woman is is set to be solved next week.

LUTON TOWN have unveiled a first-of-its-kind kit for the upcoming season.

The shirt is the first of any club’s to be fully recyclable.

The strip, designed by sustainable sportswear brand Reflo, is made from 100 per cent recycled polyester and engineered with the ability to be mechanically recycled.

Luton Town described the move as a meaningful solution to the 92 million tonnes of textiles that end up in landfill each year.

But while the material used to make the kit if new, the style is far from it.

The design, which features Luton’s traditional orange on the body and black sleeves, is similar to the club’s shirt from the 1980s.

Gary Sweet, Luton Town’s executive officer, said: “We are delighted to launch our partnership with Reflo with this new, unique kit, while reminiscent of the one we watched our heroes of 80s wear, like Basher and Raddy.

“The Supporters’ Trust have been involved in the design process from the very start, and the fans who have seen it already have been impressed.”

Kit maker Reflo, who plant a tree for every product sold, is part-owned by Harry Kane.

Having joined the company in 2024, the brand pledged to plant 500 trees for every goal that Kane scored during the 2023/24 season.

Luton Town are preparing for life in League One, with their first game against newly promoted AFC Wimbledon.

ECONOMISTS are clashing over a report putting the bill of a United Ireland at €3 billion in year one.

The estimate comes in a report this week by Professor John Doyle at Dublin City University in collaboration with Ulster University.

The tab is dramatically lower than previous figures of €9billion to €20billion a year.

Prof Doyle’s lower sum is based partly on a more conservative estimate of the cost of Northern Ireland’s subvention, which he pitched at €1.5billion.

The new report suggests the cost of a United Ireland has been exaggerated partly because of how much the UK government subsidises Northern Ireland being “misinterpreted and misunderstood.”

It also maintains that not enough attention has been given to any potential growth if Northern Ireland was back in the EU.

Report author Professor Doyle, Vice President for Research in Dublin City University, insists convergence with the south would spark economic growth in the north.

He said: “With the same set of policies on education, infrastructure, tax and Foreign Direct Investment, there is no obvious reason why Northern Ireland would remain so much poorer and so much less economically productive than, for example, Munster.

“Convergence with the more productive and wealthier Southern economy will take time, but the deficit will close much more quickly.”

But Professor John FitzGerald, from the Department of Economics at Trinity College in Dublin,  branded the figures in the work published by DCU around the cost of pensions as “unrealistic”.

A report he co-authored put the cost of unity at €8billion to €20billion a year.

Prof FitzGerald said his view was shared by Dr Esmond Birnie from UU and Professor Edgar Morgenroth from DCU.

‘THE NUMBERS AREN’T SENSIBLE’

He rapped: “You have three economists saying the numbers aren’t sensible.”

Dr Birnie, from UU, also told how he believes Professor Doyle is minimising the assumed financial costs of a United Ireland.

He said: “Prof Doyle, as in his 2021 ARINs article, rather optimistically assumes that the UK government would both meet all public sector pension obligations and release NI from its pro rata share of UK public debt.”

‘NOT CONVICING’

Dr  Birnie  described the report’s funding requirements under different future growth scenarios as “not all that convincing.”

He said: “It would be desirable if NI moved on to a higher growth path but chronic under-performance in the NI economy suggests some of these things are not easily changed.

“Major constitutional change is neither a necessary or sufficient condition of improving economic performance and this report does not provide evidence that a United Ireland per se would spur performance.”

In response, Prof Doyle said previous work on the cost of a united Ireland in Prof FitzGerald and Prof Morgenroth’s report, Northern Ireland Subvention: Possible Unification Effect, contained “errors/unreasonable assumptions”, which he replied to at length in this week’s report.

THE Modus Super Series of Darts delivered one of the craziest legs of darts since the iconic, “I can’t spake” moment.

In January 2023 in the final of the World Darts Championship Michael Smith landed a nine-darter against Michael van Gerwen in one of the craziest legs of darts ever.

And two-and-a-half years, later Conan Whitehead and James Richardson repeated that famous leg of darts.

The moment came during the fourth day of the Super Series on Thursday.

Whitehead, 39, already led the Group C clash 1-0.

Richardson, 51, had a perfect response by landing six perfect darts in treble 20.

The Barbarian responded in kind by matching his rival.

However, Ruthless was then anything but, as he fumbled the chance of a perfect nine by landing a five in his first shot, eventually leaving the board with 96 after nine throws.

Whitehead stepped to the oche with 141 remaining.

And he was emphatic as he landed a treble 20, treble 19 and double 12 to finish a perfect leg to move him 2-0 ahead in the game.

FRENCH cops have finally been captured tackling small boats in the water… while a BBC camera crew were conveniently on hand to film it.

For months, the officers across the Channel have been slammed for refusing to get their feet wet and watching on as dinghies packed with migrants leave their shores.

Critics say that £500million of taxpayer cash given to France has only turned its beaches into “the world’s most expensive sieve”.

It was widely reported last month that the French were stopping a record low number of migrants from crossing, intercepting fewer than 40 per cent of people.

Last month, French boarder guards were pictured standing on a beach taking pictures as yet another boat-load of migrants set sale.

Patrols with jeeps, quad bikes and drones were pictured on the sand earlier this week – but smugglers still managed to launch more dinghies.

In chaotic scenes today – with a BBC camera crew on hand to film – officers finally appeared to intervene and slashed the boats with knives.

With a reporter and cameras on hand to film the action at Boulogne-Sur-Mer this morning, cops were whipped into action.

The officers are first seen arming themselves with the knives as they arrive on the beach in buggies – paid for by the UK – before the camera cuts to them slicing the side of the boat.

Migrants and smugglers can be heard screaming and shouting at the officers as as the rubber dinghy begins to sink.

They have repeatedly claimed that entering the water is legally complex and too dangerous for the migrants.

The number of arrivals to the UK has hit a record 20,000 since the start of the year.

On Monday alone, 879 reached British shores, the third biggest daily total in 2025.

Sir Keir Starmer has faced pressure to deliver on his promise to “smash the gangs”, fuelling the crisis.

The Prime Minister and French President Emmanuel Macron are due to meet in London next week for a State visit and a summit focused on tackling the crossings.

The UK first signed a deal with France under the last Tory government, with nearly £500million committed to extra patrols, surveillance drones, vehicles and riot vans.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage said: “Record numbers of young undocumented males have crossed this year thanks to French beaches being the world’s most expensive sieve — this is a disaster for the country.

“They are costing us money, making us less safe, and they bring a terrorist threat.

“This will only get worse under the weakest Prime Minister I have ever seen.”

The leaders are also preparing to unveil a new “one in, one out” migrant returns deal — sending some Channel arrivals to France in exchange for Britain accepting migrants with family reunion rights.

But the Tories have branded the plan a “fantasy” and demanded their Rwanda scheme be reinstated.

Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp said: “One year into Labour’s government and the boats haven’t stopped, they’ve multiplied.

“It’s become a free-for-all.

“We need a removals deterrent so every single illegal immigrant who arrives is removed outside Europe.

“The crossings will then rapidly stop.”

The PM’s spokesman said the ­figures were “clearly unacceptable”.

They added: “But let’s be clear, gangs have been allowed to embed industrial-scale smuggling enterprises across Europe, whilst our own ­asylum system collapsed through failed policies like Rwanda.

“But we are taking action.”

The spokesman pointed to arrests of gang leaders, thousands of boat seizures, and closer ties with France.

The Ministry of Justice confirmed legal aid fees for immigration and asylum cases will rise by 30 per cent, marking the first increase in almost three decades.
