Passengers stranded for more than FIVE hours after London-bound Eurostar train ‘gets stuck on tracks’

EUROSTAR passengers were stranded for more than five hours after a London-bound train got “stuck on the tracks”.

Angry travellers took to social media today, claiming they were left without help and working toilets for hours.

Others complained that the lack of air con and ventilation on stifling trains was taking its toll on passengers.

The train is believed to be stuck by Guines which is close to Calais.

One passenger told of paramedics onboard, treating people who have become unwell.

The operator said in a statement to one traveller: “We’re sending a replacement train to take you to London, which should arrive shortly. You’ll need to leave the train.

“For your own safety, please remain seated for now and wait for instructions from our onboard team.”

Meanwhile, a quick-thinking band was filmed serenading stranded passengers to try and lift the spirits after a day of travel chaos.

The moving video was uploaded to X, formerly Twitter, and showed the band singing a tune called ‘Home’.

Passengers from the Eurostar were seen sitting on the gravel as they enjoyed a moment of respite.

One passenger claimed on Twitter that they had been stuck ” for three hours”.

She added: “There is no air-conditioning, the toilets are overflowing and we have not had a single update from any member of staff in well over two hours.

“This is absolutely appalling.

“There are young children just trapped on here.”

Another traveller onboard the stuck train echoed these concerns and said old and young people on the train appeared to not be doing well.

A third woman said she was with two “overheating” children, in a train with no toilets.

Eurostar has said they are working on “replacement trains”, but the cause of the chaos today is unknown.

The lack of communication from the company has caused serious concern, with passenger Serge de Gheldere writing: “Almost 3h. Still no news, no air. This is not just an incident or bad luck.

“There is no plan. Instead of opening the doors and trusting the people, they only have one or two doors open and let people almost suffocate. There are asthma patients and infants on board.”

Bride mercilessly mocked over ‘diabolical’ wedding surprise for husband as they say he must be looking for an annulment

WHEN people share videos of their wedding day, it’s often met with praise and swooning over the happy couple.

But one bride has been mercilessly mocked after sharing the surprise she had in store for her husband and wedding guests.

Alexis Jennings decided to share the surprise on social media, three years after her big day.

She wrote over the clip: “That time I performed a dance on my wedding day knowing my religious family would look down on it.'”

In the clip, the brunette bride danced to Beyonce’s End of Time while wearing an all-white tracksuit and a black shirt underneath.

Her husband, who was mostly out of the shot, could be seen sitting still watching her moves.

While she is dancing, children run past the stage and some wedding guests can be seen completely ignoring her.

The awkward dance saw her two-step left to right, pretending to march and whipping her hair around.

“Debated doing this for so long that by the time I convinced myself to do it, I only had less than two months to learn the choreography,” she captioned the post.

“DO WHAT YOU WANT ON YOUR WEDDING DAY LADIES. My man loved it.

“To further explain, I purposefully wore this covered up outfit and played down the dance moves out of respect for said religious family.”

But her ‘religious family’ at the wedding seemingly didn’t have much to say about her moves – some members even recorded her and looked excited.

Instead, it was the people in the comments of her TikTok that were quicker to judge the dance.

The clip has since gone viral on her TikTok account @alexojennings with over 14 million views and people didn’t hold back with their opinion.

One person wrote: “He’s googling annulment facts as soon as this clip ends.”

Another commented: “In broad daylight is diabolical.”

Average cost of a wedding in 2025

Recent research by Hodge reveals the dream of getting married can come with a hefty price tag, reaching more than £20,000.

  • Food – £6,000
  • Honeymoon – £4,329
  • Wedding outfits – £3,500
  • Entertainment – £2,000
  • Engagement ring – £1,948
  • Flowers – £1,110
  • Wedding ring – £1,000
  • Wedding transport – £700

Total = £20,587

“That man deserves the world for not laughing,” penned a third.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “Painful to watch. Hope you had fun though.”

“The best part is that you didn’t have to do this at all,” claimed a fifth

Someone else added: “The fact her friends let her go ahead with this tells me she needs better friends.”

Despite the nasty comments, the bride stuck to her guns over the controversial dance.

“Y’all roasting me is killing me, she commented.

“The mean comments are only telling me what I already know – you’re not gonna hurt my feelings. It’s TIKTOK doing its “thang.” It’s all love.”

In fact, she was so unbothered by the hate that she posted a second clip of the dance as a response.

In this follow-up video, she continued the solo dance to Beyoncé’s Upgrade U.

Alexis had similar right-to-left movements, something she chalks up to having to ‘improvise’ due to forgetting the moves.

Prince Harry & his upstart wife must be honest about their money – they’ve made millions from the royals, claims expert

PRINCE Harry and Meghan Markle must be “honest” about their money, having made millions from the royal family.

This comes as Kensington Palace has confirmed Prince William pays the highest rate of income tax on his private estate, the Duchy of Cornwall, however, the amount was not disclosed.

Royal experts have said if Prince William is asked for his financials to be revealed, so should Prince Harry[/caption]

Broadcaster Esther Okraku argued that if some people think the Prince of Wales should reveal the tax amount, so should his brother Prince Harry.

Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show, she shared: “It’s an uncomfortable conversation that I think is completely unnecessary, and I think if you’re going to have those conversations, then you might as well have them about Harry as well, he inherited, what, £10 million from the late Queen Mother.”

The Sun’s Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson chimed in: “Again, that’s all very secretive. We don’t know the exact figures.”

Esther continued: “Exactly, but why is no one asking him?

“I mean, him and his upstart wife arguably haven’t earned that money by any means.

“You know, why aren’t we criticising them? Because it’s just distasteful.

“And I think we should extend the same courtesy to William.”

HARRY’S GOLDMINE

Both Harry and William received a hefty inheritance from their late mother, Princess Diana, who died in 1997.

The People’s Princess left just shy of £13 million to her sons, which was reduced to £8.5 million after death duties.

This swelled to over £20 million thanks to years of savvy investments by royal advisors.

He may be the youngest, but Harry reportedly got a bigger inheritance from their great-grandmother Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, known as the Queen Mother, after she passed away in 2002.

She left an estimated £70m fortune, including works of art and house contents, to her only surviving daughter, Queen Elizabeth II.

But years prior in 1994, the Queen Mother also put two-thirds of her money into a trust fund for her great-grandchildren.

Harry and William also have money from Princess Diana[/caption]

William and Harry were set to share about £14 million from the investment, the BBC reported in 2002.

However, it was reported that the bulk of the cash went to Harry because William will “benefit financially” by becoming king.

William is first in line to the throne, while Harry is fifth in line.

He follows William’s children with Princess Kate: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as senior working royals in 2020, and have since relocated to California and live there with Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four.

As well as using Prince Harry’s inherited money, they have since earned cash through their deal with Netflix, Harry’s Spare memoir, and Meghan has also launched her As Ever brand.

This comes as it has been revealed that Prince William received an annual private income of £22.9 million in the last financial year, which fell from  £23.6million for the previous year.

Unlike his father, King Charles, he declined to reveal his tax bill.

It comes after questions on Duchy incomes, which pays for the Waleses’ role in the Royal Family, were raised on Channel 4’s Dispatches.

Wills pays the top rate of tax on his income from the estate. He promotes affordable housing through the Duchy.

How Meghan and Harry are investing their Netflix millions

HARRY and Meghan have begun investing their Netflix millions in a property portfolio.

They have bought a new home in Portugal, around the corner from Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie and her husband.

But the Sussexes, who have been spending an increasing amount of time apart, do not plan to live in their new pad, The Sun understands.

It is not known if the property will be rented out, used for Airbnb-style holiday lets or used purely to park money.

But it is seen as the first step of putting earnings from their TV and book deals into a global property empire.

“They’re being smart with their money,” a source said.

They pocketed £75million from streaming giant Netflix where they laid into fellow royals in a six-part series.

Meanwhile Harry, who got a £15million advance for his autobiography Spare, also inherited £8million from the late Queen Mother after turning 40 in September.

Palace insiders have been concerned about what will happen when the Sussexes run out of cash.

They have huge overheads, forking out a fortune on security in the US and for when Harry visits the UK.

And they are still paying a mortgage on the £11million Montecito mansion they bought after quitting as working royals in 2020.

Insiders say the Portugal home will be part of a financial portfolio which will include more real estate.

Stretching over 300 acres, the resort boasts something for everyone.

Whist the first house at the site dates back to the 1500s, the hotel didn’t open until 2003.

And inside it features sophisticated interiors with sculptures, chandeliers and airy large windows.

There are a number of different rooms available, including 12 newly refurbished suites in the 18th century mansion.

Depending on your mood, visitors can also eat a number of different locations including The Glasshouse, which according to The Grove’s website is “one of the world’s finest buffets”.

And during the summer months, the hotel hosts the ‘Feast on Cloud 9’.

Guests can experience a food from the hotel whilst immersed in a fairground-theme outdoor area.

Throughout the experience, visitors will have immersive moments all whilst enjoying a five-course meal or afternoon tea.

It costs £75 per adult and £49.50 per child for the five-course tasting menu.

Alternatively, you could have afternoon tea for £65 per adult and £39.50 per child.

The hotel is also hosting a new experience called ‘Fuego in the Woods’, which shares with guests the flavours of Spain.

Across three courses, visitors will have a sharing-style Spanish feast all cooked over wood-fired parrillas with dishes including Barcelona-style flatbread with black garlic aioli, Tomahawk of Hertfordshire beef and a Basque chocolate cheesecake with cherry compote.

There will be live music and drinks across the participating evenings too.

The experience costs £175 per adult or £100 per child.

Back at the hotel, there is also a spa onsite which offers a range of facilities including a 22-metre-long UV-filtered pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room.

One of the real hidden gems of the site is the walled garden – home to a heated outdoor pool, private beach and kitchen garden.

This year, the beach has a fresh new look and a dedicated treatment space.

The day beds include premium, classic and family options that cost from £60 to £190, depending on whether you book them for a day or half-day.

Each booking also comes with still and sparking water, fruit skewers, coconut water, face spray and cocktails.

For those who like golf, The Grove is home to one of the UK’s most prestigious golf courses, with 18 holes.

In fact, in 2006, the resort hosted The World Golf Championships, which were won by Tiger Woods.

Previous guests have included cast members of Harry Potter – as ‘The Making of Harry Potter’ is nearby at Leavesden Studios – and Barack Obama during a presidential visit with Prime Minister David Cameron.

It isn’t only prestigious guests the resort is used to – there have also been a number of notable events at The Grove.

The Grove Hotel went viral for one of it's restaurants

THE Sun’s assistant travel editor Sophie Swietochowski experienced the buffet last year – here’s what she thought.

As The Sun travel desk’s resident foodie, I could hardly resist trying the UK’s fanciest buffet, also one of the world’s most expensive.

The Grove Hotel in Hertfordshire went viral earlier last year when TikTok foodies discovered its Glasshouse restaurant where everyone dines en masse, but in five-star luxury.

It even featured in Netflix’s ‘Million Dollar Buffet’ documentary with Grace Dent.

Costing a whopping £82 per person at the weekend, there is certainly enough to choose from.

After several, overly-generous spoonfuls of caviar, a few servings of beetroot-cured salmon and seven superbly crafted sushi rolls, decorated with dainty herbs, I felt I’d made a good dent in “getting my money’s worth” – a statement that had been thrown back and forth between my buffet partner, Mum, and I.

So the real question is: is it really worth the cash?

It’s a thought that’s difficult to get out of my head, even though, as a self-proclaimed foodie, I’d normally spend at least this amount on a boozy dinner with friends.

But £82 does feel like a lot for what I’d previously have defined as ‘just a buffet’.

Although, if you visit for dinner mid-week, as opposed to the weekend, you can knock £17 off this price.

I’d planned what I thought was an adequate two and a half hours to properly tackle that evening’s dinner, but an extra hour would have been more appropriate if I wanted to take it at a more relaxed pace – and squeeze in an extra few hundred calories. Isn’t that what buffet dining is all about?

Still, despite the steep price, I think I’ll be booking a table for my birthday next year – and this time I’m aiming for five plates instead of four.

These include NATO’s 70th annual meeting.

And for the final of the UEFA Euros, the England National Football Team stayed at the hotel.

The Grove also revealed its newly renovated Sequoia spa after a £1.6million refurbishment.

There is a posh UK spa hotel praised by mums as perfect for kids – thanks to an Ofsted creche, huge playbarn and early teatime.

Plus, the English hotel with one of the UK’s poshest spas… but it’s only for dogs.

Lily James left fans doing a double take as she strolled down the street in a leather jacket and blue gym leggings, with a tote bag thrown over her shoulder.

The Downton Abbey alum padded around in a pair of Birkenstock sandals and was seen tapping away on her phone, before stuffing something into her jacket pocket.

Esher-born Lily kept her head down, intent on running errands in the summer heat.

Yet her hair re-vamp commanded most attention, styled poker straight and flowing over her shoulders as opposed to previous glam up-dos.

She has been sporting caramel coloured locks of late – a stark contrast to the bold hues of her latest look.

She gave a nod to her new hair shade with a shiny black manicure.

Recently, fans gushed over her “stunning” look as she stripped to a bikini.

Back in 2022, Lily again showed off an unrecognisable look after a goth transformation for a major high street campaign.

SCREEN QUEEN

Lily played Poppy in ITV’s Secret Diary of a Call Girl in 2011, and was in the BBC production of Just William as Ethel Brown in 2010.

However, she is most well known for playing Lady Rose in Downton Abbey.

Her character appeared in the last episode of series three in 2012, and became more prominent in the fourth and fifth seasons.

Earlier in 2017, she played Debora, love interest of main character Baby, in action film Baby Driver.

In early 2018 she was in the Winston Churchill biopic Darkest Hour, where she played Elizabeth Layton.

In 2018 she played Young Donna in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

In 2020 she appeared in Netflix’s Rebecca.

In early 2021 the actress appeared in The Dig, based on the story of an archaeologist who embarks on the historically important excavation of Sutton Hoo in 1938.

A year later, she took the lead role in Pam and Tommy.

She will soon star in the upcoming – and final – Downton Abbey movie.

‘We have no excuses’ – John Coleman sends relegation warning to Waterford after ‘men against boys’ loss to Derry City

WATERFORD boss John Coleman described a rampant Derry City team as ‘rabid dogs’ as the Brandywell outfit ‘humiliated’ his team on Friday night.

The Liverpudlian apologised to supporters for his team’s 7-2 loss which he described as “men against boys”.

And Coleman warned they could find themselves in a relegation scrap if they do not find a response against bottom side Cork City in the Munster derby next weekend.

The former Accrington Stanley boss said: “We have no excuses. I just have to apologise to our travelling support, coming all that way and staying with us until the end.

“We’ve been humiliated and that’s difficult to take. The harsh reality is that the honeymoon is over for me with the fans.

“A big diagonal ball caught us on the backfoot and they scored. After that we sort of folded. I’ve been managing for 29 years and it’s probably happened to me three or four times. It’s a terrible thing.

“You have to take your hat off to Derry, they were very, very good.

“You get to games when it’s 4-0 and the other team sort of ambles through the second half but they didn’t, they were like rabid dogs. It was men against boys.

“We’ve got to find a response for next week or we can go into our shells and go into a relegation scrap.”

‘You took the game away from me’ – Major Wimbledon controversy as new technology FAILS and Kartal rival fumes at umpire

THE Hawk-Eye live electronic line calling at Wimbledon malfunctioned on Centre Court.

Sonay Kartal took on Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the last 16.

The umpire tried to get to the bottom of the situation[/caption]

But the Brit’s shot bounced well long at advantage Pavlyuchenkova at 4-4 in the first set.

However, there was no call from the live system – even though replays showed it was clearly out.

The audio system then declared “stop, stop”.

That led to a stoppage as the umpire got on his phone to work out what was happening.

And despite the Kartal shot clearly being out, there was no video replay available to the umpire.

Therefore a let meant the point was replayed, although she should have had the game.

Incredibly, Kartal battled back and won the replayed point and went on to break at a crucial.

Pavlyuchenkova complained to the umpire when she returned to her seat.

She quite rightly moaned: “You took the game away from me.”

This is the first year of Wimbledon since the tournament ditched human line judges for the AI live system.
