The English hotel resort with private beach, outdoor swimming pool and cinema – and new Spanish-themed experience

A HUGE hotel resort set in the English countryside is home to wealth of things to do and explore and is also getting an exciting new Spanish experience.

The Grove located in the Hertfordshire countryside, just 18 miles from central London is a private resort with five restaurants, three bars, an award-winning spa, a golf course and events spaces.

Stretching over 300 acres, the resort boasts something for everyone.

Whist the first house at the site dates back to the 1500s, the hotel didn’t open until 2003.

And inside it features sophisticated interiors with sculptures, chandeliers and airy large windows.

There are a number of different rooms available, including 12 newly refurbished suites in the 18th century mansion.

Depending on your mood, visitors can also eat a number of different locations including The Glasshouse, which according to The Grove’s website is “one of the world’s finest buffets”.

And during the summer months, the hotel hosts the ‘Feast on Cloud 9’.

Guests can experience a food from the hotel whilst immersed in a fairground-theme outdoor area.

Throughout the experience, visitors will have immersive moments all whilst enjoying a five-course meal or afternoon tea.

It costs £75 per adult and £49.50 per child for the five-course tasting menu.

Alternatively, you could have afternoon tea for £65 per adult and £39.50 per child.

The hotel is also hosting a new experience called ‘Fuego in the Woods’, which shares with guests the flavours of Spain.

Across three courses, visitors will have a sharing-style Spanish feast all cooked over wood-fired parrillas with dishes including Barcelona-style flatbread with black garlic aioli, Tomahawk of Hertfordshire beef and a Basque chocolate cheesecake with cherry compote.

There will be live music and drinks across the participating evenings too.

The experience costs £175 per adult or £100 per child.

Back at the hotel, there is also a spa onsite which offers a range of facilities including a 22-metre-long UV-filtered pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room.

One of the real hidden gems of the site is the walled garden – home to a heated outdoor pool, private beach and kitchen garden.

Whilst at the ‘beach’, guests can relax, enjoy a new bar, stretch out on daybeds and get competitive in a family gaming area.

This year, the beach has a fresh new look and a dedicated treatment space.

The day beds include premium, classic and family options that cost from £60 to £190, depending on whether you book them for a day or half-day.

Each booking also comes with still and sparking water, fruit skewers, coconut water, face spray and cocktails.

Whilst there, guests can also indulge themselves with a ‘Sequoia on the Beach Massage’ – which focuses on the décolletage, neck, shoulders, face, scalp and arms.

For those who like golf, The Grove is home to one of the UK’s most prestigious golf courses, with 18 holes.

In fact, in 2006, the resort hosted The World Golf Championships, which were won by Tiger Woods.

Previous guests have included cast members of Harry Potter – as ‘The Making of Harry Potter’ is nearby at Leavesden Studios – and Barack Obama during a presidential visit with Prime Minister David Cameron.

It isn’t only prestigious guests the resort is used to – there have also been a number of notable events at The Grove.

The Grove Hotel went viral for one of it's restaurants

THE Sun’s assistant travel editor Sophie Swietochowski experienced the buffet last year – here’s what she thought.

As The Sun travel desk’s resident foodie, I could hardly resist trying the UK’s fanciest buffet, also one of the world’s most expensive.

The Grove Hotel in Hertfordshire went viral earlier last year when TikTok foodies discovered its Glasshouse restaurant where everyone dines en masse, but in five-star luxury.

It even featured in Netflix’s ‘Million Dollar Buffet’ documentary with Grace Dent.

Costing a whopping £82 per person at the weekend, there is certainly enough to choose from.

After several, overly-generous spoonfuls of caviar, a few servings of beetroot-cured salmon and seven superbly crafted sushi rolls, decorated with dainty herbs, I felt I’d made a good dent in “getting my money’s worth” – a statement that had been thrown back and forth between my buffet partner, Mum, and I.

So the real question is: is it really worth the cash?

It’s a thought that’s difficult to get out of my head, even though, as a self-proclaimed foodie, I’d normally spend at least this amount on a boozy dinner with friends.

But £82 does feel like a lot for what I’d previously have defined as ‘just a buffet’.

Although, if you visit for dinner mid-week, as opposed to the weekend, you can knock £17 off this price.

I’d planned what I thought was an adequate two and a half hours to properly tackle that evening’s dinner, but an extra hour would have been more appropriate if I wanted to take it at a more relaxed pace – and squeeze in an extra few hundred calories. Isn’t that what buffet dining is all about?

Still, despite the steep price, I think I’ll be booking a table for my birthday next year – and this time I’m aiming for five plates instead of four.

A-list actress is hardly recognisable as she overhauls look with dramatic dark hair transformation

A HOLLYWOOD screen star looked completely unrecognisable as she stepped out with dramatically different locks.

The Mamma Mia 2 star, 36, showed off her darkened raven-coloured hair as she ran errands in London.

Lily James left fans doing a double take as she strolled down the street in a leather jacket and blue gym leggings, with a tote bag thrown over her shoulder.

The Downton Abbey alum padded around in a pair of Birkenstock sandals and was seen tapping away on her phone, before stuffing something into her jacket pocket.

Esher-born Lily kept her head down, intent on running errands in the summer heat.

Yet her hair re-vamp commanded most attention, styled poker straight and flowing over her shoulders as opposed to previous glam up-dos.

She has been sporting caramel coloured locks of late – a stark contrast to the bold hues of her latest look.

She gave a nod to her new hair shade with a shiny black manicure.

Recently, fans gushed over her “stunning” look as she stripped to a bikini.

Back in 2022, Lily again showed off an unrecognisable look after a goth transformation for a major high street campaign.

SCREEN QUEEN

Lily played Poppy in ITV’s Secret Diary of a Call Girl in 2011, and was in the BBC production of Just William as Ethel Brown in 2010.

However, she is most well known for playing Lady Rose in Downton Abbey.

Her character appeared in the last episode of series three in 2012, and became more prominent in the fourth and fifth seasons.

Earlier in 2017, she played Debora, love interest of main character Baby, in action film Baby Driver.

In early 2018 she was in the Winston Churchill biopic Darkest Hour, where she played Elizabeth Layton.

In 2018 she played Young Donna in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again.

In 2020 she appeared in Netflix’s Rebecca.

In early 2021 the actress appeared in The Dig, based on the story of an archaeologist who embarks on the historically important excavation of Sutton Hoo in 1938.

A year later, she took the lead role in Pam and Tommy.

She will soon star in the upcoming – and final – Downton Abbey movie.

‘We have no excuses’ – John Coleman sends relegation warning to Waterford after ‘men against boys’ loss to Derry City

WATERFORD boss John Coleman described a rampant Derry City team as ‘rabid dogs’ as the Brandywell outfit ‘humiliated’ his team on Friday night.

The Liverpudlian apologised to supporters for his team’s 7-2 loss which he described as “men against boys”.

And Coleman warned they could find themselves in a relegation scrap if they do not find a response against bottom side Cork City in the Munster derby next weekend.

The former Accrington Stanley boss said: “We have no excuses. I just have to apologise to our travelling support, coming all that way and staying with us until the end.

“We’ve been humiliated and that’s difficult to take. The harsh reality is that the honeymoon is over for me with the fans.

“A big diagonal ball caught us on the backfoot and they scored. After that we sort of folded. I’ve been managing for 29 years and it’s probably happened to me three or four times. It’s a terrible thing.

“You have to take your hat off to Derry, they were very, very good.

“You get to games when it’s 4-0 and the other team sort of ambles through the second half but they didn’t, they were like rabid dogs. It was men against boys.

“We’ve got to find a response for next week or we can go into our shells and go into a relegation scrap.”

Pharma, drug store owners to DTI: No to sari-sari stores selling meds

MANILA, Philippines — The proposal of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to authorize sari-sari stores to sell over-the-counter (OTC) drugs has raised eyebrows of groups of pharmacists and drugstore owners, warning that this will only make Filipinos more at risk to fake medicines and improper self-medication. ‘You took the game away from me’ – Major Wimbledon controversy as new technology FAILS and Kartal rival fumes at umpire

THE Hawk-Eye live electronic line calling at Wimbledon malfunctioned on Centre Court.

Sonay Kartal took on Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in the last 16.

The umpire tried to get to the bottom of the situation[/caption]

But the Brit’s shot bounced well long at advantage Pavlyuchenkova at 4-4 in the first set.

However, there was no call from the live system – even though replays showed it was clearly out.

The audio system then declared “stop, stop”.

That led to a stoppage as the umpire got on his phone to work out what was happening.

And despite the Kartal shot clearly being out, there was no video replay available to the umpire.

Therefore a let meant the point was replayed, although she should have had the game.

Incredibly, Kartal battled back and won the replayed point and went on to break at a crucial.

Pavlyuchenkova complained to the umpire when she returned to her seat.

She quite rightly moaned: “You took the game away from me.”

This is the first year of Wimbledon since the tournament ditched human line judges for the AI live system.

Kevin Doherty reveals ‘strong words’ with Drogheda Utd teen star, 19, amid early struggles after heroics vs Galway Utd

DROGHEDA UNITED boss Kevin Doherty made a Daring call that paid off against Galway United.

Doherty handed a first start to 19-year-old striker Dare Kareem on Friday night and the youngster hit the winner in a 1-0 victory at Sullivan and Lambe Park.

And after powering home in the 49th minute, the teenage forward ran straight to embrace his gaffer.

But things have not always been rosy between the two.

Doherty said: “I’m delighted for him, he was excellent. When he came to us at the start of the season, it took him a while to get going. He wasn’t in physical shape to play for the 20s, never mind us.

“I had some strong words with him but also gave him love as well, which you need to do. He’s responded excellently.”

Kareem joined the Drogs in the close-season after spending time in the St Pat’s academy.

With Warren Davis and Josh Thomas injured, and ex-loan striker Douglas James-Taylor now at Bohemians, Kareem grabbed his chance with both hands.

Doherty continued: “It wasn’t a hunch because I’ve seen it in training. I’ve seen that he will really, really suit us and suit this league.

“It’s great and you’re a genius when these things works out.

“I had no doubts. I was speaking to a couple of supporters about him before the game and I said, ‘I’m telling you, this is going to work for us’ and thankfully it did.”

Drogheda have a quiet July ahead with only Crumlin United to come in the FAI Cup. That is after the club were kicked out of the Conference League, which leaves a massive gap in their schedule.

After the Cup holders get their defence under way on July 18, they will have a training camp before league action returns.

Doherty added: “We’ve played five games in two weeks, with six players missing.

“We’ll be fresh coming into games now. We’re a really good side. When we’re not playing five games in 14 days, we’ll continue to be a good side.”

Horror moment sleeping driver ploughs BMW into man after his foot ‘slipped onto accelerator’ in busy street

An image collage containing 2 images, Image 1 shows Overhead view of a city street with parked cars, a truck, and a car stopped near a pedestrian crossing, Image 2 shows Mugshot of Abdelrahman Awadalla

THIS is the moment a dozing driver ploughed into a stranger when his foot slipped onto the accelerator.

Abdelrahman Awadalla was catching up on sleep after a weekend at Boomtown music festival, when he accidentally jerked the BMW forward.

Shocking CCTV footage captured the 27-year-old’s saloon speed across Victoria Road, North Acton, and into the path of passing pedestrian Martin Gartlan.

The incident took place during a busy rush hour period last August.

The project manager was carried on the bonnet before the car crashed into two poles and a tree.

Meanwhile, sleep-deprived raver Awadalla emerged from the smash unscathed.

He can be seen putting something beneath his victim’s head before retrieving his belongings from the boot of his BMW

Then, he can be seen fleeing when he hears sirens.

Mr Gartlan broke almost every single rib and suffered a fractured neck and leg.

Even worse, his heart stopped when he was being treated by medics – forcing them to place him in an induced coma for ten days.

Martin later spent five weeks in the intensive care unit at St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington.

Another pedestrian – Imdadul Kader – was also hit by the speeding car, but escaped with light injuries.

He can be seen being struck in the video too, highlighted in green.

At Southwark crown court yesterday (FRI), former psychology and criminology uni student  Abdelrahman wiped away tears as his victim said he held “no animosity” towards the driver who nearly killed him.

In an impact statement read aloud to the judge by prosecutor Steven Molloy, Mr Gartlan said: “I have worked my whole life.

“I cannot understand why I couldn’t get to work safely that morning without something like this happening.”

Awadalla pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and causing actual bodily harm.

He was handed a 27 month sentence by Judge Sally-Ann Hales KC.

While sentencing him, Judge Kanes said: “On August 13, you drove back from a festival having had little or no sleep for the previous three days and probably still affected by the alcohol and cannabis you had taken the previous night.

“You parked in a side road because you no doubt appreciated you were not fit to drive.

Overhead view of a city street with parked cars and pedestrians.
Mr Gartland was placed in an induced coma after the collision

“But the state you were in meant you fell asleep at the wheel without safely securing the car.

“As a consequence, you injured two people – one of them very seriously.

“Those offences – combined – are so serious the only appropriate sentence is one of immediate custody.”

Awadalla, from Acton, only spoke once in court, saying “yes boss” when asked his name by the court clerk.

But he told of his remorse in a letter to the judge, writing: “I will take any sentence you will give me but just know my time in custody has changed me a lot.”

Defence barrister Kane Sharpe described Awadalla as genuinely remorseful.

According to him, Awadalla had asked after the victim’s condition at every single meeting they had had together.

The former uni student, who has 16 previous convictions including for drug dealing, was banned from driving for three years.

Loose Women star misses out on Celebrity Bridge of Lies jackpot after choosing wrong answer – but could you have got it?

LOOSE Women star flunks jackpot question on Celebrity Bridge of Lies – but would you have nailed it?

A Loose Women favourite came this close to scooping the cash prize on Celebrity Bridge of Lies – only to trip up on the final question and lose it all.

A contestant named Sunetra with her hands on her head, looking shocked.

This was the final question that stood between her and a big cash prize for charity when Sunetra chose the wrong answer[/caption]

Sunetra Sarker, 52, made it all the way to the final bridge on the hit BBC quiz show, but her luck ran out just steps away from the jackpot.

The Casualty and Ackley Bridge actress had been confidently spotting the lies from the truth all evening, impressing host Ross Kemp and cheering on her celeb teammates.

But when it came to the crunch – the final question that stood between her and a big cash prize for charity — Sunetra chose the wrong answer, and the money vanished in a flash.

Ross looked gutted as the bridge lit up in red, exposing the answer she should have picked.

Fans at home were left shouting at their screens – but would YOU have got it right?

Sunetra was tasked to spot the true fact out of four statements.

They were: Virgo is the only star sign represented by a person, White chocolate contains cocoa butter, The first Red Nose Day took place before Live Aid, and Oddjob is the Bond villain in the film Thunderball.

Sunetra was torn between two answers.

But, after deliberating with her teammate Jason Mohammad, they agreed that “Oddjob is the Bond villain in the film Thunderball” was most likely the truth.

Ross revealed it was a lie – as Oddjob is the Bond villain in the film Goldfinger – leaving Sunetra gutted.

Also in the episode, Sunetra failed to realise a true statement was about her fellow Loose Woman co-star.

It read: “Tracey Stubbs is a character in Birds of a Feather.”

Sunetra guessed that it was true, and was relieved when Ross said she was correct.

However, she was left stunned when Ross revealed: “Yeah, she’s played by Linda Robson – your fellow Loose Women star!”

Hardest Quiz Show Questions

Would you know the answers to some of quizzing TV's hardest questions

  • Who Wants To Be A Millionaire – Earlier this year, fans were left outraged after what they described as the “worst” question in the show’s history. Host Jeremy Clarkson asked: “From the 2000 awards ceremony onwards, the Best Actress Oscar has never been won by a woman whose surname begins with which one of these letters?” The multiple choice answers were between G, K, M and W. In the end, and with the £32,000 safe, player Glen had to make a guess and went for G. It turned out to be correct as Nicole Kidman, Frances McDormand and Kate Winslet are among the stars who have won the Best Actress gong since 2000.
  • The 1% Club – Viewers of Lee Mack’s popular ITV show were left dumbfounded by a question that also left the players perplexed. The query went as follows: “Edna’s birthday is on the 6th of April and Jen’s birthday falls on the 15th of October, therefore Amir’s birthday must be the ‘X’ of January.” It turns out the conundrum links the numbers with its position in the sentence, so 6th is the sixth word and 15th is the fifteenth word. Therefore, Amir’s birthday is January 24th, corresponding to the 24th word in the sentence.
  • The Chase – The ITV daytime favourite left fans scratching their heads when it threw up one of the most bizarre questions to ever grace the programme. One of the questions asked the player: “Someone with a nightshade intolerance should avoid eating what?” The options were – sweetcorn, potatoes, carrots – with Steve selecting sweetcorn but the correct answer was potatoes.

Sunetra replied: “You’re kidding me!

“She’ll never forgive me.

“Sorry!”

Love Island CHAOS looming as lad ‘does bits’ with Casa Amor girl in unaired scenes

CASA Amor has exploded in drama as one lad has already BEDDED a new girl in saucy yet-to-air scenes.

The boy has utterly failed Love Island’s relationship test by “doing bits” with a Casa girl just hours into the fan-favourite segment, The Sun can reveal.

The OG boys have already been snogging the new girls in a game of Truth or Dare[/caption]

The Sun is keeping shtum on the identity of the feral fella and the girl to preserve the shock for viewers when the outrageous moment comes to screens.

But we can reveal that the boy in question has already caused heartache and tears this series with another love triangle.

The raunchy action happened on Friday night when the duo shared a moment under the duvet in the main bedroom.

A source said: “This could be one of the most shocking Casa moments since Andrew Le Page licked Coco’s tit or whatever.

“They hit it off and one thing led to another.

“It was all under the duvet in the main bedroom on Friday night, but viewers will have to wait and see if ITV decide to air the footage or not.

“Tonight’s show – Sunday – will show what happens on the first day of Casa Amor so, if execs do decide to screen the bedroom moment at all, it might not be until Monday’s episode or even Tuesday as there’s so much drama already.

“It’s already looking like this could be one of the best Casa Amors ever.

“The lad has been in a love triangle and has made a girl cry with his actions.”

The Sun revealed yesterday that one Casa Amor girl, Lauren Wood, comes into the show with experience of the villa because she was one of this year’s Dry Run Islanders.

She was part of the group who stayed over for a few nights before the OGs moved in to test out camera angles and so on.

CASA A-PHWOAR

The iconic segment of the hit dating show officially makes its return tonight – and there’s no messing around where the boys are concerned.

As they get settled into Casa, Dejon suggests spicing up the atmosphere with a game of Truth or Dare so that everyone can get to know each other on a deeper level.

This soon leads to Casa snogs, as Ben engages in a three way kiss with the bombshells of his choice – one of which is Harry’s ex, Emma.

But that’s not the only cheeky interaction that takes place, with Harrison snogging one of the bombshells he’s most attracted to.

And as the kiss lingers a little bit too long, the group tells them that they can stop.

Harry also reunites with his ex Emma as they head into Casa Amor, and confirms that the ‘E’ tattooed on his wrist is in fact for her.

Harry and Emma are reacquainted, as she tells him: “Surprise!”

The group sits down and the Islanders share what their types are. When Yaz explains that she requires emotional availability from a man, Emma whispers to Harry “well that’s you out.”

When quizzed about how strong out of 10 his relationship is with Toni, Harrison tells the new Bombshells: “Seven, could be better..”

When asked if any of the new girls have caught his eye, Tommy tells the group: “There’s definitely a few of you that tickle my fancy.”

Catching up with his ex, Harry says: “I don’t need you to come and tell me off.”

Emma is also quick to call Harry and Helena “snakes,” after their recent villa behaviour.

Emma responds: ““It’s disgraceful though… like, how are you still doing the same thing?

“The way you’ve been moving with Helena honestly… you two deserve each other… two snakes.”
