A WOMAN accused of “solely” setting fire to a Dublin Bus, which was “completely destroyed” during the November 2023 riots, has been sent forward for trial.

Violence broke out after a girl, aged five, was severely wounded, and two other children and a woman were injured in a knife attack at Parnell Square in Dublin city centre earlier that day.

Leanne Kelly, 34, who is from Wicklow but of no fixed abode, was accused of torching the bus on O’Connell Bridge, causing €477,851 worth of damage to the public service vehicle.

She was charged last week and faced her latest appearance before Judge Michele Finan at Dublin District Court on Monday when gardai served her with a book of evidence.

The Director of Public Prosecutions has directed that she face “trial on indictment” at a higher level with greater sentencing powers.

Judge Finan acceded to a request from prosecutor Sharon Rossiter to grant a return for trial, sending her case forward to the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, where the case will be listed for mention on July 31.

When Ms Kelly was first charged in April, the judge set her bail at €300 and required a €3,000 independent surety, which had to be approved before Ms Kelly could be released under strict terms.

However, she had been unable to take it up and remained in custody since then.

Her solicitor, Niall O’Connor, asked the court to consider reducing the bail, adding that her client would be able to live with relatives in Co Wicklow and was a different person now.

However, Detective Garda Barry Brennan objected.

He agreed with Mr O’Connor that the bus had already been damaged before Ms Kelly allegedly got involved. However, he maintained that she “solely caused it to be set alight”.

He alleged the incident occurred during the “Dublin riots” and he claimed that at about 7.30 pm, Ms Kelly picked up a piece of rubbish and ran to a garda car that had been set on fire.

Detective Garda Brennan said she “extracted flames from the garda car onto the piece of rubbish and she ran to the Dublin Bus”.

The court heard it had already been abandoned after being surrounded by rioters.

It was claimed that Ms Kelly ran onto the bus and threw the burning rubbish on the ground.

TRIAL PLEA

The accused wept as she pleaded to be freed pending the trial telling the court: “I have no intention of f****** this up”.

She spoke out saying she had suffered trauma at a young age, was living in a tent at the time of the riots, and there had been a family bereavement while she was in custody.

Judge Finan decided to reduce the surety to €1,000 and emphasised that if taken up, she must obey conditions set earlier: reside at Kilbride Grove, Bray, Co Wicklow, obey an 11pm to 6am curfew, sign on daily at the local Garda station, and remain contactable by phone.

The charge under Section 2 of the Criminal Damage Act carries a possible 10-year sentence and a €10,000 fine.

Ms Kelly was granted legal aid and told she must notify prosecutors if she intends to use an alibi in her defence. gardaí were also directed to hand over interview videos to the defence.

To date, 85 people have been arrested in connection with the Dublin riots, with 66 charged.

Meanwhile, a man awaits trial accused of attempted murder of three children earlier that day at Parnell Square in the city centre.

He cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for breaking up their marriage after six years together.

Phypers and Richards separated on July 4, court documents said, according to TMZ.

Neither Richards nor Phypers has spoken publicly about the split yet.

Gunners’ sporting director Andrea Berta flew to Portugal for talks at the end of last week to push the deal through, according to CNN Portugal.

SunSport revealed that Sporting feared Gyokeres would push through a reported threat to go on strike this week.

And the striker has now been given extended leave from pre-season as talks intensify.

However, Sporting are still not willing to buckle on their £68.9m (€80m) asking price.

Currently, Arsenal have indicated they are prepared to pay £56m up front and £8.6m in add-ons, which is a total of £64.6m.

But it seems certain that eventually, the Londoners will end up paying the £68.9m which Sporting want for a player they signed for just £20m from Coventry two years ago.

Ideally, Arteta would like Gyokeres at the club before Arsenal head to Singapore for their pre-season tour on July 19.

There have also been reports that Gyokeres is ready to pay a portion of his own transfer fee to push through the move.

Underwater wings are installed in the stunning design to lift the boat out of the water, reducing drag and increasing speed and allowing it to “fly”.

The monohull yacht Hypersail of Ferrari – while sailing – is able to balance itself on three points.

One is a foil attached to a special canting keel – a moving part under the yacht that helps it keep upright whilst adding speed at the same time.

The second is a foil on the rudder which helps steer the incredible vessel, and the third is one of the two side foils – depending on which direction the boat is turning.

The Ferrari boat is to measure 98ft in length, 65.5ft in width and 131ft height – making it the biggest fully foiling monohull to ever exist.

And Ferrari has even said it is st to be the first of its size in the world to be entirely energy self-sufficient.

No fuel or combustion engine will be used – but it will rely on renewable sources like solar power, wind power and kinetic energy, or even the energy created by the vessel’s movement due to the foils.

Architect Verdier is behind the design of the incredible vessel, and is responsible for the overall concept of stabilising the boat’s flight on the three points of contact.

Ferrari is yet to decide what kind of events the Hypersail would be entered for when it’s ready, according to Yachting World.

The company’s chairman John Elkann said: “[The] America’s Cup is regulated and this boat is thought to go beyond rules.

“This project gives us the chance to experiment in new areas.”

The Hypersail is currently being built in Italy.

Ferrari is hoping to finish the prototype by some point of 2026,

After that, it will be taken out on the water for sea trials.

These tests will be crucial in understanding how the yacht behaves and how the systems work together.

They will also show just how well the vessel can handle long trips using just renewable energy and its foils.

The BBC has revealed three more big names for its adaptation of the stage play Dear England, which chronicles the career of Gareth Southgate. 

Former Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker, The Crown actor Jason Watkins and Passenger’s Daniel Ryan have been added to the cast of the four-part drama. 

They join Shakespeare In Love’s Joseph Fiennes who has already been announced as playing the former England manager. 

Filming has started and it will air next year on BBC One. 

Jodie plays the England men’s team psychologist, Jason is FA chairman Greg Dyke and Daniel is former assistant manager for the team, Steve Holland. 

Writer and exec producer James Graham said: “I’m so grateful to the world-class cast and creative team we’ve assembled.”

But even Sir Bob Geldof, who organised the original extravaganza four decades ago, couldn’t get the veteran singer to come on the documentary. 

Producer Tanya Shaw told Broadcast magazine this week: “His email to ‘Madge’ sadly went unanswered.” 

Perhaps he made the mistake of calling her Madge in the request?

I think he can be reasonably excused from missing the historic feat. 

Jared, son of the late hellraising actor Richard Harris, resumes his role as mathematician Dr Hari Seldon in the latest instalment of Foundation, which drops on Apple TV+ on Friday. 

The show, which first aired in 2021, is based on Isaac Asimov’s novels.

And given how good he sounded during the band’s first night at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium, Liam’s virtuous new lifestyle is clearly working a treat.

My tour insider explained: “Liam arrives 45 minutes before he goes on stage and leaves immediately afterwards.

“At Cardiff he had a car driven into the stadium to take him back to his hotel immediately. Liam is being a total professional and is laser-focused on giving Oasis fans the best show he can.

“It’s incredible to see how well behaved he is being. It’s like he’s properly grown up now.”

The brothers will kick off their run of five shows at Manchester’s Heaton Park on Friday night.

And while Liam might be teetotal, I don’t think the hundreds of thousands of fans who are due to see them perform will be doing the same.

I’ll certainly be having a skinful when I see the lads at Wembley later this month. I’ll have one for you, Liam.

Stereophonics will kick off in Nottingham on December 4 before playing in Newcastle, Sheffield, Aberdeen, Glasgow, Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool.

They will finish with a huge gig at London’s O2 Arena on December 18. It’s been a huge year for the lads, after 13th studio album, Make ’Em Laugh, Make ’Em Cry, Make ’Em Wait, went to No1 earlier this year.

Tickets for the gigs go on sale on Friday at 9.30am, ahead of their two massive sold-out homecoming shows at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium this weekend.

The bonkers musical puts Celine Dion – who wrote the movie’s theme tune, My Heart Will Go On – at the centre of the story with the Canadian superstar claiming that she was actually on board the fateful ship.

From there, pandemonium ensues, with a camp and outrageous retelling of the classic love story, set to the music of Celine, all while leading lady and breakout star Lauren Drew does a spot-on impression of the notoriously quirky diva.

Packed with memes, an improvised section and even a Drag Race-style lip sync, this one-part show isn’t groundbreaking or heart-shattering.

It is one of the most ridiculous and hilarious things you will ever see on the West End but will guarantee you a bon voyage and send you sailing off home with a smile on your face.
