LEEDS are looking to expand Elland Road by over 15,000 seats as they aim to host non-footballing events.
The newly-promoted Premier League side have submitted plans to boost capacity to 53,000.
Elland Road, which was built in 1897 and became Leeds’ home in 1919, currently holds just under 38,000 seats.
But chiefs feel the stadium could do with a new look as they look to cement their place in the top flight.
Daniel Farke’s men hope to expand the West Stand from 8,000 seats to 17,750.
While the North Stand’s capacity could jump from 10,414 to 15,300.
A total of 53,000 seats would make Elland Road the seventh-biggest football arena in the country.
Club chiefs also want to hold other entertainment events at the stadium in a bid to boost revenue.
An application has now been submitted to Leeds City Council.
It revealed that Leeds want to host up to eight non-football events each year.

And the club hope to receive a response within 13 weeks.
Should it prove to be successful, renovations will start in 2026.
Leeds are hoping it will be approved after public consultations showed that 98 per cent of respondents were in favour of the plans.
There are currently 26,000 supporters on a waiting list for season tickets at Elland Road.
And the capacity boost would go some way towards meeting their needs.
Leeds’ chief business officer Morrie Eisenberg said the plans will “revitalise” the arena and “preserve the unique history and heritage it holds.”
He added: “(It will) also provide great economic benefits to the local community and will be a catalyst for a regeneration of the area.”
YOUNG people are being “targeted” by online trends promoting dangerous tanning methods.
The use of sunbeds and tanning oils is on the rise as young people are drawn into the dangerous market, despite over 11,000 new cases of skin cancer being diagnosed each year in Ireland.
And a doctor has told told how she is worried that trends such as sunburnt tan lines and the resurgence in sunbed use means young people are going backwards when it comes to sun safety.
Speaking as we face into a weekend of 28C heat and widespread sunshine, Dr Kate McCann said: “The hashtag #sunburntlines has more than 200 million views on TikTok.
“But intentional sunburn lines aren’t the only example of young people’s obsession with tanned skin as another trend sees people tattooing tan lines into their chests.
“We had been making great progress in realising that tanning isn’t a sign of beauty, it’s a sign of skin damage.
“We’ve been great in promoting awareness of sun safety but now it seems, we really are going backwards.
“We are now starting to see the use of sunbeds going back up after having been a trend to get away from and the use of tanning oils is on the rise again.
“We know that the use of sunbeds before age 35 can increase risk of melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, by 75 per cent.”
The Dublin based preventative health doctor who lives in Ashbourne, Co Meath says the marketing influence of tanning among influencers on social media platforms and TV is worrying.
She said: “There are more and more people under 35 years of age who are not worried about premature ageing and they see their beauty as a short-term thing.
“They are being targeted by online trends promoting health misinformation, such as the use of cooking oil for faster tanning. It’s just exposing you to increased risk of skin damage.
“Even one severe sunburn – that is a sunburn that blisters or peels – as a child or teen doubles the risk of skin cancer later in life.
“Nine out of 10 cases of skin cancer come from UV exposure from sun or sunbeds.
“This is really a concern among health professionals right now as there is a huge amount of health misinformation being circulated on social media about sunscreen.”
I say, own your tone. All skin tones are beautiful.”
Dr Kate McCann
Dr McCann warned that we have “gone back 25 years” to tan line trends that were fashionable in the late 90s and early 2000s.
She added: “Using sunblock or stickers on your skin while you tan to leave a white mark or “tattoo” behind is now in vogue again.”
Tanning has been shown to be addictive for some people.
Tanorexia is a syndrome where an individual appears to have a physical or psychological dependence on sunbathing or the use of tanning beds
Dr McCann advocates for positive body image which includes skin tone.
She said: “I say, own your tone. All skin tones are beautiful.
“Look in the mirror and say I am who I am and I am beautiful, whatever your skin colour is.
“It’s not ‘pasty’ – I would say ‘pure porcelain perfection’”.
She said the trends are “worrying” but we can still promote sun safety awareness through healthy family habits:
“Slip on a shirt, slap on a hat, slide on some shades, seek some shade – and slop on the sunscreen or a mineral sunblock.
“We need to have ongoing discussion with our children and teens about beauty trends and body image.
“No trend looks as beautiful as healthy feels.”
Dr.McCann urges everyone to fact-check influencer and social media claims when it comes to skin health and sun safety, and encourages families and patients to use trusted resources like the Irish Cancer Society website.
It comes as shock new research revealed that almost one in four Irish people admitting to rarely or never using suncream.
Only one in three admitted to using suncream on sunny days or when travelling abroad, the Lidl report revealed.
Some 36 per cent of Irish people admit to sunbathing regularly while a massive 56 per cent believe they don’t need suncream unless they’re in direct sunlight or experiencing high temperatures.
The research also found that while many parents are diligent about applying suncream to their children, they often neglect their own skin.
TV presenter Dáithí Ó Sé has teamed up with Lidl in raising awareness of sun safety after experiencing his own health scare.
He said: “It was a scary experience when I got the news about my lump and I wouldn’t wish that on anyone, the fear eats away at you.
“People often think that the sun can’t really do too much damage but it can and it does.
Simone recommends breaking down the basics:
· Suncream should be applied every morning – rain, shine, or anything in between.
· Reapply every two hours – especially if you’re outdoors, sweating or swimming.
· Use a full teaspoon for your face and neck and around a shot glass for your body.
· Don’t forget ears, scalp, backs of hands and feet! if you’re wearing sandals.
“You need to be using suncream every day even on cloudy days when you think the sun can’t reach you.
“I really like the Cien sports range for when I’m out and about whether I’m at a shoot or pacing the sidelines at a match.
“The travel size range is also really handy for when I’m on the go for work as they’re compact sizes that I can keep in the car or my suitcase without taking up too much space.”
Skin Expert Simone Gannon advised the daily use of suncream is essential for long-term skin health.
She said: “Lidl’s research shows a serious gap in how we use suncream in Ireland.
“The reality is, even on cloudy days, UV rays can cause long-term skin damage, premature ageing and increase the risk of skin cancer – so daily sun protection really is essential.
“You don’t need to spend €25 or more to get high performance.”
ARSENAL are open to including a player in their offer for Crystal Palace midfielder Eberechi Eze.
SunSport exclusively reported that Arsenal chief Andrea Berta had held talks with the player’s representative as they look to beat Spurs to his signature.
Eze, who turned 27 last week, is open to the move and has been training to stay fit in anticipation, but Palace are determined to extract the full £68million from his release clause.
Arsenal, who are on a spending spree, are closing in on signing Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres.
The Gunners have already agreed on personal terms with the player and are ironing out the final details with his club.
Mikel Arteta’s side have already signed Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and long-term target Martin Zubimendi.
They are also very close to signing Christian Norgaard.
However, Arsenal chief Berta is determined to get the Eze deal over the line and will try to convince Palace, who might consider accepting a promising defender as part of the deal.
While the player being considered as a makeweight in the deal is not known, SunSport understands he is an emerging star who’s played a handful of games for the first team.
The Eagles are likely to lose Marc Guehi, who is wanted by both Liverpool and Newcastle, even though they have identified Sporting’s Ousmane Diomande as an ideal replacement.

Palace held a remote interest in Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah, who impressed during his brief spell at Selhurst Park, but his age and wages led Palace to close that chapter and turn their attention to the 21-year-old Diomande.
The addition of another young defender as part of the Eze move is likely to turn heads at Palace, as it would be useful, given that Chadi Riad, who joined Palace last summer from Real Betis, is expected to miss the start of next season due to the ACL injury he picked up.
Eze still has two years left on his Crystal Palace contract and is determined not to sour his relationship with the club in order to secure a move.
He observed closely how Michael Olise handled his delicate transfer amid intense interest from Chelsea and Bayern Munich.
ARSENAL TRANSFER NEWS LIVE: All the latest rumours from the Emirates
That respectful way of leaving a club has meant the Crystal Palace training ground was open to Olise, who trained there for a week before joining Bayern Munich for the Club World Cup.
Eze is grateful for the role he’s played in the history of Palace and is widely regarded a club legend after scoring the goal that won them the FA Cup last season.
So he would want a deal that makes everyone happy before he departs.
SunSport has taken a deep dive into how Eze would guarantee more goals for the Gunners.
TWO Irish tourists have revealed the horrific moment they had to fight off a taxi driver who forced his way into their hotel room and tried to kiss them after a night out in Portugal.
Terrified Samantha Johnson was put into a headlock by the dangerous predator – but fortunately her brave pal Saorla van Heerden “forcefully ripped him off” before managing to push him out of the room.
The chilling incident left Saorla throwing up in fear and her pal passing out.
During the frightening incident, the 20-year-olds tried to reason with the creep by asking what was going on, but he was “adamant” and wouldn’t leave them alone.
The brave duo shouted and pleaded for him to leave during the struggle and eventually managed to push him out of the room before locking the door.
Student Saorla explained: “I ended up throwing up and Sam passed out on the bed.
“It was a bit of a blur, I think we were a bit in shock about what happened.”
The pair, from Belfast, were in Albufeira, Portugal, on a last-minute getaway when the horror unfolded.
Saorla continued: “We were out on the strip on our first night when Sam was feeling really tired, so we decided to get a taxi home.
“We went up to a taxi and the man inside told us it was cash only.”
Saorla volunteered to go into the hotel at the end of the journey to get the cash to pay for the trip, while Sam offered to stay in the taxi until her friend got back “to show we weren’t going to run off”.
But suddenly, the situation turned from friendly to frightening.
Sam, an apprentice, said: “I was sitting in the taxi just having a casual conversation with him, when he decided to get out of the car. I was a bit confused.
“He came round and opened my door, and without saying a word, he took me out of the taxi and put me in a headlock.
“I was in a lot of shock and kept asking if he was OK.
“He dragged me round to where Saorla had gone to our flat to get the cash.”
When Sam saw the man walking towards her with her friend in a headlock, she was stunned.
She said: “I can’t remember what was said, but he carried Sam into the room and then tried to kiss her.
“I forcefully ripped him off, but he kept coming back to her – I had to put my hand in between their faces at one point.
“I started shouting – telling him to get off and get out – but he was pretty adamant on kissing one of us.”
The man also tried to kiss Saorla, who was shouting at him to leave.
“He came round and opened my door, and without saying a word, he took me out of the taxi and put me in a headlock.”

Sam said, “At that point, we both pushed him out the door and locked it.”
The pals have shared their story of the incident on TikTok, where it has gathered 93,200 views.
In the clip, Sam can be seen speaking to the camera as she tells their story.
The women said they chose to speak out in an effort to raise awareness and offer support to others who may have experienced similar situations.
Sam added: “We’re going to order Ubers from now on because they seem like the safer option.
“And we lock the doors at all times.
“I was not as affected by the event as Saorla was.
“She was definitely more concerned.
“We definitely were worried the same guy would pop up again – I remember scanning every taxi guy we saw on the street.”
DARTS star Ryan Searle has opened up on his struggles in finding a cure to his and his daughter’s debilitating eye disease.
Searle, known as Heavy Metal for his love of rock music, chunky 34g arrows and rockstar hair, suffers from Dominant Optic Atrophy.
The PDC darts star, 37, is currently the world No19 and has reached the last-16 at the World Championship three times.
The genetic condition causes him blurred vision, with Searle admitting he has “learned to live” with its effects.
Searle explained to Darts News: “DOA basically means there’s reduced blood flow to my damaged optic nerve.
“I wear contact lenses now, so it’s not as bad. My vision’s not as blurry anymore.
“I don’t have to keep stopping to ask what I’ve scored or what’s left, and that’s helped my game a lot.”
When asked if was legally blind, Searle joked: “It’s getting there — pretty close.
“But no, not quite. I can still legally drive, just about.”
Searle only discovered he had the condition in the past couple of years — after his daughter Amelia was diagnosed.
He said: “It comes in different severities — mine’s fairly bad, but hers is really bad.
“She’s registered as visually impaired and she’ll probably never be able to drive.
“I’ve been speaking with a charity who are trying to raise money to find a cure because there isn’t one.
“Whatever vision you’re born with, that’s what you’re stuck with.
“I’m going to have a patch on my shirt soon for the charity, to try and raise awareness and hopefully help get closer to a cure.”
Despite his rise up the rankings, Heavy Metal is yet to win a major TV tournament.
Searle came closest in 2021, losing in the Players Championship Finals to Peter Wright.
He previously said: “I’ve learned to live with it, but it does affect me – I can’t always see where my dart lands.
“That’s why you’ll often see me asking the referee what I’ve thrown.”
Searle also shares a son with wife Sophie Cosh.
MANCHESTER UNITED are reportedly ready to cut their losses on Andre Onana – just two years after signing him.
The Red Devils have allegedly slapped a price tag on the under-fire keeper.
Signed from Inter Milan for around £47million in 2023 to replace David De Gea, the Cameroon international arrived with big expectations.
Onana has shown flashes of brilliance, but those have been outweighed by costly errors.
Now, with Ineos looking to reshape their squad this summer, United are open to offers and could accept a figure as low as £30million.
The Daily Mail report that was the price quoted to Monaco when the French side enquired about signing Onana.
That would represent a hefty financial hit for Manchester United.
Despite the significant drop in his valuation compared to 24 months ago, the report adds that Monaco still consider it too much.
Saudi side SC Neom have also been linked with a move.
The Cameroon international returned to Manchester United training yesterday and looks more likely to remain at the club than leave this summer.

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has said that he is ‘happy’ with the former Inter Milan keeper.
However, SunSport revealed recently that the Red Devils boss could be open to sending Onana out on loan.
The goalkeeper’s wages are so high, that as well as the fee, his personal demands are also proving off-putting.
Manchester United would prefer a European club to come in rather than a Premier League rival.
Onana, whose deal runs until 2028, counts 24 clean sheets and has conceded 148 goals during his two-year spell in Manchester.
SunSport understands Botafogo’s John Victor is an option to replace Onana after catching the eye at the Fifa Club World Cup.
World Cup winner Emi Martinez is also keen on a move to Old Trafford.

SINGER Olivia Dean has gone public with her drummer boyfriend after being linked to popstar Harry Styles.
Olivia had been heavily linked to the Watermelon Sugar hitmaker last year but she now seems firmly settled with her brand new man.
The 26-year-old performer went public with her new partner, Eddie Burns, at Wimbledon last week.
Eddie, 27, is a drummer for fellow singer, Clairo.
Both Olivia and Clairo performed as opening acts for Sabrina Carpenter for her two sold out BST Hyde Park gigs this past weekend.
On Friday of last week, Olivia and Eddie put on a cosy display as they watched all the action at Centre Court.
Nice To Each Other singer Olivia looked chic in a flowing yellow dress with Eddie looking dapper in a matching shirt paired with some brown trousers.
Olivia has seen her star power rising over the past few years and is tipped to be Britain’s next big star.
She released her first album Messy in 2023 after being awarded the BBC Introducing Artist of the Year award.
Her new man has also always been a performer having grown up in a musical family in Chicago.
With Clairo, he has performed across the globe, including stints opening for Dua Lipa and Khalid.
Olivia and Eddie are thought to have been together since April, as per the Mail Online.
Previously, The Sun told how Olivia had caught the eye of former One Direction star Harry Styles last year.
Rumours that Olivia and Harry were an item came after they were spotted enjoying a burger at fast-food joint, Five Guys, in London.
They were then spotted at the Kalorama festival in Madrid together just a few weeks later.
The As It Was singer and rising neo-soul star were spotted watching Sam Smith at the Spanish showcase.
And in a sweet moment, Harry was seen resting his head on Olivia’s shoulder during Sam’s emotional track I’m Not The Only One.
An insider said in September last year: “Harry loves festivals and enjoyed his time with Olivia in Madrid.
“It was the perfect weekend after Olivia put on a stunning performance, and they both loved watching their favourite artists together.”
She is due to release her next album, The Art of Loving, this September.
HUNDREDS of military personnel, drones and dogs have been deployed in a search for a missing army soldier.
Alex Cairnie, 30, a sergeant in the Queen’s Royal Hussars regiment, was last seen at around noon on July 6 leaving Tidworth camp in Wiltshire.
Amesbury Police are now asking people to come forward if they have seen Alex, from Perham Down.
He is described as around 5ft 7 tall, of an athletic build with mousy brown hair and a beard.
Military personnel have been deployed in the Tidworth area, working alongside specially trained volunteers and officers.
Police dogs have also been sent out, and a drone is using thermal imaging technology to check local woodland from above.
Amesbury Police stated: “We are very concerned for his welfare.
“He is thought to have been wearing a light coloured t-shirt and black/grey trousers.
“If you see him, or know of his whereabouts, please contact us on 999 quoting log 214 of today’s date.”
Among those joining the search as a volunteer is a team organised by Drew Short, from DS rescue and recovery.
He wrote: “We’ve got a search and rescue dog along with 3 trucks were more than happy to give up our time and money.
“We won’t stop looking for you until you are found by someone.
“We’re all really hoping you are ok and please reach out to someone.”
