TIGER King star Bhagavan “Doc” Antle has been jailed for trafficking exotic animals and money laundering.
Antle, 65, was sentenced to one year and one day behind bars and fined $55,000 on Tuesday – two years after he pleaded guilty to the charges.

Prosecutors said Antle sold or bought cheetahs, lions, tigers and a chimpanzee without the proper paperwork for a decade.
They said he also laundered more than $500,000 so he could quickly get cash to buy more animals.
Antle’ssentencing was heard in a federal courtroom in Charleston, South Carolina – five years after the true crime documentary Tiger King captivated a country shut down by COVID-19.
The show centred on dealers and conservationists of big cats, focusing on disputes between Joe Exotic, a collector and private zookeeper from Oklahoma, and Carole Baskin, who runs Big Cat Rescue in Florida.
Exotic is serving a 21-year federal prison sentence for trying to hire two different men to kill Baskin.
Antle appeared in the first season with Exotic and Baskin and was the star of the show’s third season.
Authorities said he laundered money used in a human smuggling scheme because he needed large amounts of cash quickly to buy animals, including chimpanzees, lions, tigers, cheetahs, and other creatures.
Prosecutor Patrick Duggan said: “These animals are illegal to sell because they are endangered, and their high prices could encourage poachers to steal them from the wild.
“He was knowingly and illegally trading them as part of a black market that drives another black market of poaching and smuggling.”
Customers would pay $200 for five minutes and photos with a baby chimp or $7,000 for a sleepover.
Antle would sometimes ride into tours on an elephant.
InstagramAntle is currently on bond and the sentencing will take place on September 14, 2023[/caption]
Antle’s lawyers requested a sentence of just probation or home confinement, saying their client needed to care for the 150 exotic animals that consume 1,000 pounds (454 kilograms) of meat a day at his Myrtle Beach Safari.
They said many of the animals only respond to Antle.
About 25 friends and family packed a federal courtroom in Charleston.
Several told Judge Joseph Dawson III that Antle was generous and caring.
They said he raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to fight poaching and preserve wild habitats for tigers, lions and chimpanzees.
Federal guidelines called for about two years in prison, to which prosecutors agreed.
But Dawson said, although Antle broke federal law, all the evidence pointed to him caring for animals.
Antle apologized at the end of his sentencing hearing for causing problems for his life’s work.
“I made a mistake, I did stupid things,” Antle said, adding, “I hope I’ll be able to pull it back together for everybody.”
Antles Myrtle Beach Safari was known for charging hundreds or thousands of dollars to let people pet and hold baby animals like lions, tigers and monkeys that were so young they were still being bottle-fed.

COLDPLAY are officially boring, scientists say.
The 100million album-selling band have become less “harmonically daring” over time, suggesting their new songs sound like the old ones, music experts reckon.
GettyIt has become a running joke the band are ‘vanilla’, with singer Chris, 48, admitting last year the band are a ‘very easy target’ for critics[/caption]
Chris Martin’s quartet formed in 1997 and with top-selling albums such as 2002’s A Rush of Blood to the Head are still one of the most popular bands in the world, with a sell-out run of ten Wembley shows this summer.
But it has become a running joke they are “vanilla”, with singer Chris, 48, admitting last year the band are a “very easy target” for critics.
They analysed variety and how songs differed over time, including rhythm, tempo, percussion, keys and chords.
Findings suggested REM were the least adventurous but Coldplay became staid as their fame grew.
Radiohead had more variety in their albums.
Researcher Professor Nick Collins wrote in journal Royal Society Open Science: “Coldplay shows a downwards trend in their harmonic daring as they increasingly become part of the pop mainstream.
“Radiohead maintain a high diversity of harmonic language, while their timbral‐rhythmic variety also falls off a little.”

TEMPLEGATE tackles Wednesday’s racing confident of building the bank for a huge few days at Newmarket’s July Festival.
Back a horse by clicking their odds below.
LADY MARIKO (5.10 Yarmouth, nap)
There was a lot to like about the way she got her head in front at Wetherby last time. She came from a good way back and battled right to the line, relishing every yard of this distance. The handicapper has been fair with a 2lb rise in the weights and she looks capable of improvement. Noisy Music looks the main danger after a good run on the all-weather at Southwell last time out.
BEACH POINT (5.50 Kempton, nb)
He made it six places from his past seven races when second at Leicester last time. This looks a good chance to get his head back in front with the step up in distance likely to suit. He has a top pilot in Mason Paetel on board in this apprentice race.
ROGUE ENDEAVOUR (7.10 Ffos Las, treble)
He went down in a tight finish over a similar trip at Bath 14 days ago. He likes to go from the front and his capable claimer Elizabeth Gale is full value for her 7lb.
TOMMY’S PROMISE (4.10 Yarmouth, Lucky 15)
He has few miles on the clock and just over half a length away when second here last time. He is proven over this trip and looks dangerous again from his basement handicap mark of 49.

THUGS, thieves and drug dealers could avoid going to crown court under plans to overhaul the clogged justice system.
Offenders may avoid a criminal record and instead be sentenced to do unpaid work or get rehabilitation, it is proposed.
Criminals could avoid going to crown court under plans to overhaul the clogged justice system
Sentences could be cut by 40 per cent, up from a third now, with an early guilty plea.
Jury trials would be scrapped for some drug dealers and sex offenders with a judge and two magistrates presiding instead.
They could impose sentences of up to three years’ jail.
The maximum penalty JPs could hand down would double to two years.
The shake-up, proposed in a report for the Government by retired judge Sir Brian Leveson, is an attempt to tackle the current backlog of 77,000 crown court cases.
It has seen trial dates pushed back as far as 2029.
Sir Brian said without the reforms there would be a “breakdown in law and order” with “society taking things into their own hands”.
Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick said “criminals like burglars and some killers will serve just a fifth of their sentences. That makes a mockery of our justice system.”
Victims’ Commissioner Baroness Newlove warned higher guilty plea discounts and out-of-court disposals “will feel like justice diluted again”.
Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood has yet to announce which recommendations she will accept.
