A RUSSIAN transport official died in office on the same day as Vladimir Putin’s transport minister apparently killed himself after being sacked, it has emerged.
Roman Starovoit, who had held the post for less than a year, was dismissed earlier on Monday – just hours before he reportedly took his own life in Moscow.

On the same day, Andrey Korneichuk, deputy head of the Russian Federal Road Agency’s Property Management Department, died at the Transportation Ministry’s Moscow headquarters.
According to Telegram channels with close ties to Russian law enforcement, the 42-year-old official died either in his office cabin or during a meeting.
He is said to have stood up suddenly, collapsed to the floor, and died.
Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Russian state media reported that Korneichuk died at his workplace, possibly from “acute heart failure”.
Korneichuk reportedly died after news broke that Starovoit had been sacked from his post.
There is no indication the deaths are linked.
Meanwhile, telegram channels with links to the Russian security forces reported Starovoit’s cause of death as suicide – claiming the minister was found dead with gunshot wounds.
The firearm, according to Russian media, was an award pistol issued to him in 2023 by the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Putin was “shocked” over the sudden death of Starovoit.
But the Kremlin refused to be drawn on how Roman Starovoit had died, saying it must be left for the investigation.
Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “This cannot but shock normal people.
“Naturally, it shocked us too.”
Versions of Starovoit’s death from official sources were constantly changing, with initial reports saying his body had been found at home.
Russian cops then confirmed Starovoit’s body was found having shot himself inside his black Tesla.
Press reports and photos clearly showed a body being removed from long grass near the electric car.
Sources close to the Kremlin revealed he had left his ministry after morning meetings like nothing was wrong.

The minister’s 25-year-old girlfriend Polina Korneeva was seen crying at the scene.
She was later driven away in an official Aurus limousine after reportedly identifying his body.
Reports said the last time Starovoit communicated with his family was two days ago.
Starovoit had divorced his wife in 2021, the mother of his two children, and started a relationship with Korneeva.
The dead ex-minister had a daughter 15, and son, 18.
According to sources, on July 5, he arrived at the competition to see his daughter, stayed there for less than an hour, hugged her and left.
He did not contact his family again.
Starovoit’s passing is the latest in a string of suspicious deaths of Russian officials, oligarchs and insiders since Putin’s invasion of Ukraine began.
Many have died in reported suicides, falls from windows or under mysterious circumstances, fuelling speculation about growing instability behind the Kremlin’s walls.
Trump slams Putin’s ‘bulls***’ and trashes the tyrant’s ‘meaningless’ promises
By Sayan Bose, Foreign News Reporter
A RAGING Donald Trump has slammed Vladimir Putin for talking “bull****” about the Ukraine war and making “meaningless” promises.
The savage attack comes as Trump vowed to send more weapons to Ukraine as he appears to be growing increasingly frustrated with the Russian tyrant.
“We get a lot of bull**** thrown at us by Putin, if you want to know the truth,” Trump told reporters during a televised cabinet meeting at the White House.
“He’s very nice all the time, but it turns out to be meaningless.”
Trump reiterated that he was “very unhappy” with Putin since their phone call last week made no progress on the Ukraine peace deal – something the US president has pushed for since returning to power.
Trump’s criticism of Putin came a day after he said he would send more weapons to Ukraine – a sweeping reversal of Washington’s announcement last week that it was halting some arms shipments.
He said: “We’re going to send some more weapons.
“We have to. They have to be able to defend themselves. They’reting hit very hard now.”
“We’re going to have to send more weapons, defensive weapons, primarily.”
Moscow had no immediate reaction to Trump’s strongly worded comments about Putin, but the Kremlin said that sending arms to Ukraine only serves to prolong the conflict.

Russel King loaded up his motorhome and planned to transport it across the North Sea by ferry from Rotterdam.
King was also found to have been involved in importing 70kg of cannabis to the UK just a month earlier.
Authorities launched a huge investigation into King’s operation and discovered that the 63-year-old transported a staggering 632kg of ketamine to the UK in July 2023.
Appearing in front of Lewes Crown Court, the smuggler was found guilty of importing 70 kilograms of cocaine, as well as the ketamine and cannabis offences.
He was handed a huge 22 year sentence, with his £2 million ketamine scheme earning him 6 years behind bars – a sentence which will run concurrently with his 22-year stint in jail.
Detective Superintendent Al Burns, Yorkshire and Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit, said: “This operation dismantled a significant supply chain into the UK from Europe, and I’m proud of the tireless work our officers put in to protect the public.
“I would like to thank them as well as partner agencies, including Sussex Police and those overseas for their work to ensure justice was done.
Detective Superintendent Burns added that the use of ketamine has grown over recent years.
He also said that the drug is becoming increasingly viewed as “low-risk” when it is actually very dangerous.
He said: “This arrest demonstrates that no one is beyond the reach of UK law enforcement and that working together we will relentlessly pursue those that seek to benefit from international criminality.
“Putting King behind bars has not only disrupted an international trafficking route into the UK, but it’s also a stark reminder of the harm these substances cause in our communities.
“The growing use of ketamine as a recreational drug has been well-documented recently, but so have the serious dangers it poses to the health of individuals who take it.
“It’s wrongly perceived as a low-risk drug and has a significant impact on users.
“We remain committed to tackling the organised crime groups fuelling this trade and causing misery in our communities.”

BirminghamLive/BPMShannon Wolleter lured a man into a flat so he could be violently attacked[/caption]
BirminghamLive/BPMMatthew Baker had previously been involved with the victim’s new girlfriend[/caption]
Daniel Aston, 33, and his then-girlfriend Shannon Wolleter hatched the plot alongside 61-year-old Steven Baker and his son Matthew.
The gang targeted their friend Anthony Cooper after saying they didn’t approve of his girlfriend and because he owed them £150.
They created an elaborate trap for Anthony, by using Wolleter as bait.
She started texting Anthony, while pretending that she was interested in him romantically.
The pair arranged to meet up on October 3, 2021, for a “sexual encounter” at 8.12pm.
When he arrived, he was dragged off the street and taken into a silver Mercedes.
Baker shouted “come here, you little c***” before beating Anthony, while Matthew Baker threatened to cut off the charity worker’s legs.
Matthew Baker sent videos of the crime to various people on social media, once they reached a friend’s flat.
Anthony was then dragged to a car park before being dropped near to his address.
He was treated for his injuries, while the violent gang of four were arrested.
Presiding over Birmingham Crown Court, Judge Dean Kershaw branded the group as “animals” and described their actions as “cowardly, planned and vile”.
Aston was slapped with a five-year and eight month sentence, while Wolleter was handed a two year and 10 month sentence.
Both Bakers were given sentences of three years and nine months.
David Bambrough, 41, was handed a six month suspended sentence after allowing the gang to use his flat during the assault.
Anthony met the group through a homelessness charity and had considered each of them friends.
However, the friendship broke down when he started dating a woman called Bethany love.
The prosecution, Lachlan Stewart, said that this caused the sinister gang to start calling Anthony nasty names.
Mr Stewart said: “Steven Baker saw her like a daughter. There was also a suggestion Matthew Baker may have been in a relationship with her in the past.
“The group started going around calling Mr Cooper a paedo, a rapist and sex offender entirely without basis.”
Anthony opened up about how the incident has left him unable to trust the people he cares about in his life.
He said: “What makes things worse is I thought all the people involved were my friends.
“It really made me not want to make more friends.
“When it was happening I thought I was going to die.
“I have never been so scared in all my life.”

A MAN who killed his friend in a head-on-collision has been jailed.
Ryan Lee was killed on June 17, 2023 as a result of his friend John Smith’s reckless driving.
John Smith has been jailed after his reckless driving killed his friend and injured anotherRyan Lee’s family said he had a ‘heart of gold’
The pair had been out at a pub in Eggborough, North Yorkshire before the incident occurred.
John Smith, 24 was driving Mr Lee’s van – despite having no licence or insurance.
He then ran a red light before speeding around a sharp bend.
After misjudging an overtake on the A645 Weeland Road, the van collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle at around 6.30pm.
Mr Lee was killed and the driver of the oncoming vehicle was seriously injured.
Ryan was in the passenger seat of the van and was pronounced dead at the scene.
His family described him as having a “heart of gold”, as his death has left “a huge hole in [their] lives”.
The oncoming driver was returning home from work to have dinner with his family.
He was left with critical injuries that have required numerous operations to treat.
This will have a lifelong impact on him and his family.
Witnesses described John’s driving as “appalling”.
John Smith was convicted today of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving, causing death while driving uninsured and without a licence.
Mr Smith pleaded guilty at York Crown Court before the case went to trial in May 2025.
He was given an 11 year sentence today.
Mr Smith was also taken to hospital following the incident.
After the sentencing, Detective Constable Richard Grey of North Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision Investigation Team said: “This collision has left the Lee family devastated with the loss of Ryan. They’ve told us it’s left them absolutely broken.
“The family of the injured driver have also had their life turned upside down, as he endured multiple operations.
“He now has to live with the fact that his injuries will leave a lasting legacy of reduced mobility and the inability live his life as intended.
“The affected families have at least been saved from the ordeal of a trial, as Smith has admitted his guilt and not sullied Ryan’s name in this senseless and horrific incident.
“All this has happened because Smith showed no regard for the safety of others and an attempt to save a few seconds off a journey with an overtake.”
