His death was announced on Instagram by the only surviving founding member of the group, Kevin Heybourne.
Heybourne wrote: “It is with immense sadness that I have to report that Kevin Riddles, our original bass player passed away on Friday 4th July 2025.
“Kevin was a great guy and we remained mates until the end, he will be greatly missed.
“Our condolences to his wife Julie. Rest in peace Kev.”
In May, Riddles suffered from a “serious medical emergency” resulting in cancelled shows.
In addition to his work with Angel Witch, Riddles also co-founded ’80s power metal band Tytan.
He also started his own band named Kev Riddles’ Baphomet, in 2021.
Baphomet recaptured the Angel Witch music from his 70s to 80s era with the band.
His bandmates from later group Baphomet also shared a statement, writing: “Kevin ‘Kev’ Riddles passed away peacefully in hospital in the early hours of Friday morning 4th July 2025.
“An absolute legend in the truest sense of the word, a larger than life character, an incredible and dedicated musician and a very fine and wonderful human being.
“Rest easy big fella.”
Riddles was a key part of creating that distinct metal sound, cited as an influence for the likes of Metallica, Venom, and Slayer.

A MUM-OF-TWO was raped and murdered by her “controlling and coercive” ex-fiance at a luxury hotel, a court has been told.
Samantha Mickleburgh, 54, was found dead after she arranged to celebrate her partner’s 60th birthday with him at the swanky Pennyhill Park Hotel in Bagshot, Surrey, on April 14 last year.

FacebookJames Cartwright has been charged with murdering his ex-fiancee[/caption]
The mum, from Axminster in Devon, stayed in a twin room with her ex-fiance James Cartwright the night before because she “didn’t want him to feel lonely”, a jury heard on Tuesday.
Cartwright, 61, is standing trial at Guildford Crown Court accused of raping and murdering Ms Mickleburgh between April 12 and April 14 last year.
Prosecutor Louise Oakley told jurors that Samantha had ended the relationship a few months earlier in February.
The court heard the relationship between Cartwright and Ms Mickleburgh, which began in the summer of 2022, was “somewhat of a whirlwind” and they got engaged in September 2023.
Following their breakup, Cartwright continued to pursue Ms Mickleburgh, attending her address unexpectedly and uninvited, and “bombarding her” with messages and calls, Ms Oakley said.
“She didn’t wish him any ill, but she no longer wanted to live with him and no longer wanted to be in a relationship with him,” Ms Oakley said.
“But part of her also felt bad for him, believing that he had no one else to spend that day with.
“As a result, she had arranged a celebratory meal and stay at Penny Hill Park and Spa, and in a final act of selflessness, she honoured that commitment despite telling friends and family that the relationship was over.”
Following the incident, Cartwright dialled 999 at around 8.30am and said the victim was unresponsive, jurors were told.
“That was a lie,” Ms Oakley continued.
“He had most likely killed her in the early hours of the April 14 2024 with his own bare hands applying manual pressure around her neck, extinguishing her life.”
A post-mortem examination found Samantha’s body had sustained “a significant head injury” as well as fractured to bones in her neck – consistent with signs of strangulation.
Ms Oakley added: “There were only two people in this room – and she couldn’t have and didn’t strangle herself.”
The former couple headed out for a six course tasting menu at the hotel’s Michelin starred restaurant The Latymer on the evening of April 13, jurors were told.
During the meal, staff observed that Samantha appeared unwell and that she “looked more and more sleepy and at points her eyes were closed and she looked like she was sleeping,” prosecution said.
They paid their bill and left the restaurant at around 10.30pm, while CCTV footage snapped the two walking back to their room a few minutes after.
“This is the last time Samantha Mickleburgh was seen alive,” Ms Oakley told the court.
Cartwright was arrested by police on April 19 last year and interviewed by officers.
The accused told cops that his ex-fiance “perked up” after they left the restaurant.
He then claimed the two had consensual sex before “falling asleep in each other’s arms,” prosecution said.
Ms Oakley said: “She had intended at some point to tell him that this was the last time they would see each other.
“Is this what caused James Cartwright’s explosion of violence?
“He had started to lose control of his relationship with Samantha because of his own controlling and coercive ways.”

THIS IS NOT A DRILL. The great wait is over — this is happening.
The big-screen messages were clear before Oasis came on stage for the first time in 16 years last Friday in Cardiff.
Will it be Ronan Maher who hoists Liam MacCarthy on July 20?AFPAnother Liam was centre stage on Friday night[/caption]
The brawling Gallagher brothers got the band back together and produced the mother of all comebacks. The guns had fallen silent in their 16-year war and it was like the band had never been away.
Off they went — ‘Hello, hello — it’s good to be back . . . ’
The world tour may have thrown in in Wales, but Ireland is a homecoming gig.
The Gallagher brothers are Manchester by birth, but Mayo by the grace of God and those lucky enough to get tickets for next month’s Croke Park shows are in for a treat.
The band split back in 2009, four years after Cork claimed their last All-Ireland SHC title.
Kilkenny secured the four in a row that September before Tipperary halted the Drive for Five a year later.
That rivalry took centre stage for much of the decade to come. The Cats and the Premier became hurling’s Liam and Noel, with Cork reduced to no more than a support act.
The feuding Oasis brothers embarked on solo careers and all the while, the Rebels still waited for the big one. There’s a feeling on Leeside now that their great wait is over.
Cork had to sit back and watch Kilkenny, Tipperary, Clare, Galway and Limerick top the charts.
Losing finals in 2006 (Kilkenny denied Cork a three in a row), 2013 (after a replay against Clare), 2021 (Limerick) and last July (Clare again, after extra-time) hurt.
April’s 3-26 to 1-16 drubbing by the Treaty in Limerick was a big blow.
But some might say that sunshine follows thunder, as the Rebels came back to the Gaelic Grounds and prevailed on penalties in the Munster final.
The stage was ready for a return to Croke Park — and so were they. Pat Ryan’s men fired a warning shot to their rivals, blowing Dublin away with 7-26 in an exhibition of rock ’n roll hurling.
Their firing line were in tune as Alan Connolly bagged a hat-trick, with Brian Hayes and midfielder Tim O’Mahony chipping in with two apiece. The defence was a wonder wall last Saturday too.
Their fans left Dublin feeling that this really is happening. Since the qualifiers were introduced in 1997, Cork have never faced Tipperary in the final.
PREMIER PAIR
And the Premier’s Liam and Noel — manager Cahill and spiritual leader McGrath — are on a comeback tour of their own.
The county were on the floor last year when they failed to win a game in the Munster Championship, finishing bottom of the pile.
Cahill’s credentials were questioned. He asked patience of the Tipp public — who are restless at the best of times — but they just needed a little time to wake up.
Last year’s round robin cast no shadow as the opening-round draw with Limerick in Thurles offered hope.
A drubbing against Cork followed but Darragh McCarthy’s red card ended the game before it had even begun.
The Premier beat All-Ireland champions Clare before seeing off Waterford by nine points to seal third place in the group.
Laois and Galway were clinically dispatched before Cahill’s rebuild stood up to the test in Sunday’s thrilling semi-final against Kilkenny, when Oisín O’Donoghue struck a wonder goal to secure passage to the final.
The youngster could only lap it up in front of Hill 16, just as Oasis will do when they walk out on stage next month. Not even an umpire or a dodgy scoreboard will ruin it.
Similar scenes will unfold on either the South Mall or the square in Thurles after Rob Downey or Ronan Maher climbs the steps of the Hogan Stand to take Liam MacCarthy home.
Tipp blew the Cats away against all odds on Sunday, but this team’s journey is starting to look like it’s all part of the masterplan.
Twenty years on from 2005, all the pressure is on Ryan’s Rebels. Because they need each other, they believe in one another — Cork and Tipperary need to uncover what’s sleeping in their souls.
