Irish ace Johnny Kenny tipped for new deal by boss Brendan Rodgers after impressing in Cork City friendly

A LOT has been happening in Cork recently.

Roy Keane had three sold-out ‘Evenings with…’ — while their senior hurling team romped into an All Ireland SHC final with a devastating display against Dublin on Saturday at Croke Park.

Brendan Rodgers’ side ran out 2-1 winners to win the Cork Super Cup

But it is fair to say yesterday’s Cork Super Cup clash between Celtic and Premier Division strugglers Cork City was not quite on a par with those headliners on Leeside.

Brendan Rodgers’ side ran out 2-1 winners over City at Páirc Uí Chaoimh — with teenager Colby Donovan netting the winner.

Luke McCowan opened the scoring for Celtic in the first half before Matthew Murray, 17, equalised for the hosts.

Donovan was then on hand to net an 87th-minute winner to send most of the 26,518-strong crowd home happy.

Ireland frontman Adam Idah was left out but Johnny Kenny did start.
And Rodgers later revealed the club want to offer Kenny a new Parkhead contract.

He said: “We would like to sign him to a new deal. And then we will see what path it takes, whether he stays or whether he needs to go and get games.”

Kenny got 45 minutes despite playing with a ‘bad’ shin injury — with new recruit Hayato Inamura also impressing for the visitors.

Rodgers made it clear last week he did not see him being a first-team option just yet and instead saw a possibility of a loan move.

But this dazzling display — albeit against a City side without a win since April — will make the Celts manager think again.

Rodgers said: “I always judge players on the pre-season, on how they look and are they going to be capable. I’ve to say he surprised me.”

But a huge pitch suited pass-daft Celtic. McCowan’s 27th-minute strike came after fine build-up by Forrest and Engels before he buried a left-foot shot into the far top corner from 16 yards.

Rodgers’ changes at the break left the Hoops with virtually a kids’ XI, save for the more experienced Ross Doohan, Stephen Welsh and Adam Montgomery.

Keeper Doohan, a summer signing from Aberdeen, saved well from both Kit Nelson and Josh Fitzpatrick.

But he could do nothing about teenager Murray’s equaliser on 67 minutes as he took advantage of hesitancy from Welsh to round Doohan and finish.

Welsh had already recovered from treatment when he went down in the 72nd minute and was forced off, his left arm strapped from a shoulder injury.

The visiting punters got a first look at new teenage striker Callum Osmand, whose pace was the most eye- catching element of his 45 minutes.

Ger Nash’s side were limited but they still provided a competitive test for Celtic and made them work for what they got. And they will take that into Friday’s crunch league clash away to Waterford.

But four minutes from the end, Donovan — who started at right-back, went off at half-time and came back on at centre-half for Welsh — pounced from a few yards out to give Celtic the silverware.

Celts will now jet to Portugal for a week’s training and two games, with the first in Lisbon on Saturday. Meanwhile, City have a fight on their hands to stay up in the Premier Division.

One mother, whose child was in the class at the time, said the image of the knife had stayed with the youngster.

Speaking to Cambridgeshire Live, she fumed: “It’s not something a child should be thinking about.

“He has been asking me questions. It has been psychologically distressing for him.

“When I got him up on Thursday morning, he said ‘Mummy, will there be knives at school today?’.”

Cambridgeshire Police confirmed officers were due to speak to the child who brought the blade into school.

Furious Cole Palmer KICKS post and stares down Chelsea team-mate who refused to set him up for tap-in

COLE PALMER lost his rag with Nicolas Jackson in the final stages of Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Fluminense, fly-kicking the post in fury.

Enzo Maresca’s side booked their place in the inaugural Club World Cup final, as new £60million signing Joao Pedro struck twice.

Chelsea had a golden chance to put the game against the Brazilian side to bed in the 80th minute, after substitute Jackson broke free inside the penalty area.

Jackson drew in a defender to leave Palmer free for an easy tap-in between the spot and six-yard box.

But the under-fire Senegalese forward chose to shoot to Palmer’s shock, slamming his effort wide and into the side netting.

The England star, 23, immediately threw his hands up in frustration, after being denied a second Club World Cup goal, before stamping his foot against the post.

An irate Palmer then appeared to shout angrily at his team-mate, who held his hand out in apology as he walked sheepishly back on to the pitch.

But Chelsea are one win away – against either Real Madrid or Paris Saint-Germain – from becoming two-time Club World Cup champions.

Jackson, who was a regular fixture in Maresca’s side last season, suddenly finds his starting spot under threat.

Pedro, who didn’t celebrate against his former team, has hit the ground running just days after his pricey switch from Brighton.

While fellow summer signing Liam Delap, who joined for £30million from Ipswich, adds to the fierce competition at No9.

Jackson was solid last season, bagging ten Premier League goals and 13 in total.

But many fans have been growing frustrated by his lack of discipline at key moments in games, with Jackson sent off twice in the last three months.

The 24-year-old striker was shown red for a horror tackle after just four minutes on the pitch against Flamengo in the Club World Cup group stage last month.

He was also sent marching in Chelsea‘s crunch clash against Newcastle after a moment of madness, with the Blues going on to lose 2-0 in the race for Champions League qualification at the time.

AC Milan have reportedly asked about Jackson’s availability this summer after the arrivals of Pedro and Delap to Maresca’s squad.

Russia launches biggest EVER Ukraine blitz with 728 drones & hypersonic missiles after Trump slammed Putin’s ‘bulls**t’

NATO scrambled warplanes overnight as Vladimir Putin unleashed hypersonic missiles and kamikaze drones in the heaviest assaults of the war on Ukraine.

It comes after raging Donald Trump slammed the tyrant for talking “bull****” about the Ukraine war and making “meaningless” promises.

Kyiv revealed there were a total of 741 strikes on Ukrainian territory by the Russian armed forces, a record for the 40-month conflict.

This involved 728 drone strikes, mainly Iranian-designed Shaheds, seven seven Kh-101/Iskander-K cruise missiles, and six Kinzhal – or Dagger – hypersonic missiles.

Key targets of the massive bombardment were Lutsk and Ternopil in the west of Ukraine, which triggered an emergency response from NATO forces in neighbouring Poland.

Both Polish and other Western air force warplanes were scrambled as a defensive measure during the Putin strikes.

“In connection with the attack by the Russian Federation’s air forces carrying out strikes on objects located in the territory of Ukraine, Polish and allied aviation has begun operating in Polish airspace,” said a statement from Warsaw’s armed forces command.

“All available forces and resources at the disposal of the Operational Commander of the [Armed Forces] were activated.

“Duty fighter pairs were scrambled, and ground-based air defence and radar reconnaissance systems reached the highest state of readiness…..

“The measures taken are aimed at ensuring security in areas bordering the threatened areas.”

A total of 718 incoming strikes were destroyed – some 303 – or misfired and were lost including due to electronic warfare, some 415, an astonishing success for Ukrainian air defences.

Some 296 drones were shot down as were all seven Kh-101/Iskander-K cruise missiles in a significant blow to Putin’s firepower.

“The air attack was repelled by aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of the Defence Forces of Ukraine,” said an official statement.

The Russian blitzkrieg used a third more drones and missiles than the previous record.

I ordered the cutest water fountain from Temu for just £6 – but what arrived was anything but cute, they did me dirty

A BARGAIN hunter has revealed that she ordered herself what she believed would be a stunning water feature for her garden, but what arrived was a mega fail.

Leanne Lulu Griffin confirmed that she treated herself to the garden buy which she bought from Temu, in a bid to add style and light to her outside space.

But Leanne Lulu Griffin was left gobsmacked when the postman arrived and delivered her epic fail[/caption]

Numerous other Temu shoppers were equally as disappointed with the £6.06 buy[/caption]

But when Leanne’s order arrived, she was left in fits of hysterics at the epic fail.

Eager to show off her blunder, Leanne took to social media and shared a snap of what she ordered, alongside a picture of what she actually got.

Posting on BARGAIN LOVERS 🛍 Poundland, Home Bargains, B&M, Primark, The Range & More, a public Facebook group with 861,000 members, Leanne revealed that rather than a statue that trickles down water, she got an ornament that is totally sealed.

Not only this, but she confirmed that it doesn’t look a thing like the listing and to make matters worse, it doesn’t light up either.

Stunned by the failed order, Leanne penned: “Ahhh Temu…I mean I think it’s stunning.

“Didn’t want it to light up and trickle water anyway.

“What I ordered vs what I got.”

Leanne bought herself the Duck Outdoor Round Water Fountain Feature, which is one of Temu’s best-selling items at the moment.

It was once £10.38 but has since been slashed by 41%, costing shoppers just £6.06.

But despite the bargain price, Leanne was disappointed with what arrived, as the Temu mega fan later explained: “[I’ve] been ordering from here weekly for well over a year and this is the first time Temu has done me over.”

Leanne shared her post just 16 hours ago but it has clearly left many in hysterics, as it has quickly racked up 2,100 likes, 431 comments and 51 shares.

Social media users were stunned by the Temu buy and many raced to the comments to share their thoughts.

One person joked: “Think they shrink on the way.”

It’s not the size that’s a major issue.. looks nothing like what I thought I was getting

Leanne Lulu Griffin

Another added: “It’s getting worse.”

A third commented: “It’s always a gamble with Temu, I ordered party bag bits and got little wristbands and they had spelling mistakes on.”

Meanwhile, one Temu shopper claimed: “Omg I actually put this in my basket plus a few other garden bits.. think I’ll pass.”

But at the same time, someone else slammed: “When you don’t read the description.”

Why is Temu so cheap?

TEMU exploded onto the scene in late 2022, with people all over social media raving about the low prices.

The company is a Chinese-owned digital marketplace – essentially an online shopping app where people are connected to the retailer directly while the app takes care of the shipping element.

The frenzy over the app is not completely unfounded either as it offers a wide variety of products, including fashion, make-up, electronics and furniture.

According to a report from the US House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, Temu takes advantage of a trade loophole that allows the company to ship duty-free goods directly to the US.

The loophole is called the de minimis exception and it means they can ship goods valued up to $800 (£643) to the US without it being inspected or taxed by US customs.

Temu connects customers directly to manufacturers and only manages how the items are sent to customers.

It means Chinese vendors can essentially sell their products directly to customers and ship it without building a network of warehouses across the globe.

By doing this, they cut down on huge costs and ensure the product itself isn’t marked up extra.

While many of the products seen on the Temu app are from brands with extensive, original collections, many more are dupes of designer brands.

However, to this, Leanne wrote back and confirmed: “I did read the description!

“It’s not the size that’s a major issue.. looks nothing like what I thought I was getting.”

Temu shoppers fume

And it’s not just Leanne who wasn’t impressed with this garden statue, as someone else shared: “I ordered this as well.. I couldn’t stop laughing when I opened it!

“I’ve kept it for the giggles hahaha it is shocking, my duck’s face is painted with boss eyes not to mention the baby’s beaks.”

Claims to be water feature, more like kids’ ornament. Worse Temu purchase yet

Temu shopper

Not only this, but numerous Temu shoppers have raced to the website to also share their disappointment at the garden feature.

One user snapped: “The quality of the item is awful.”

A second chimed in: “Nothing like the picture – rubbish.”

And a third savvy shopper fumed: “Claims to be water feature, more like kids’ ornament. Worse Temu purchase yet.”
