Christian Horner’s fate may have been sealed after ‘cold’ interaction with Red Bull owners at Austrian Grand Prix

CHRISTIAN HORNER’S fate my have been sealed after a frosty interaction with Red Bulls owners in Austria, reports claim.

Horner was sensationally SACKED by Red Bull with immediate effect after 20 years as team principal on Wednesday.

Horner has faced a turbulent last 18 months on and off the track, after the sexting scandal over inappropriate behaviour towards a female colleague leaked in March 2024.

The Brit, 51, has had several rows with Jos Verstappen, father of driver Max, since the fallout, with several high-profile people quitting the team, including legendary chief designer Adrian Newey.

Reports of hostility among Red Bull’s team have continued to grow even after Horner was cleared of any wrongdoing by an internal investigation.

And there has been reports of a growing rift between Horner and Red Bulls Thai owners, who chose not to sack him after the scandal broke.

F1 journalist Joal Lischika reported seeing the owners greet Horner “coldly” in the hospitality unit at the Austria Grand Prix weekend in June.

The Yoovidhya family, through Chalerm Yoovidhya, holds the majority 51 per cent stake, while the late Dietrich Mateschitz’s son, Mark Mateschitz, inherited his 49 per cent share.

To make matters worse Red Bull suffered its worst home race result in recent history, with Max Verstappen crashing out after three laps after being hit by Mercedes No2 Kimi Antontelli.

Meanwhile, Yuki Tsunoda had a particularly difficult time, being lapped twice on his way to finish dead-last of those who crossed the chequered flag.

Four-time world champion Verstappen, 27, qualified down in seventh, while Tsunoda finished qualifying in P18.

Despite reports, Horner and the majority owners put on a show of unity as they posed for pictures in the paddock in Austria on June 29.

But according to Lischika, there was apparently a growing feeling that Horner simply held too much power, after taking charge of operations during Red Bull’s inception in 2005.

Horner, married to Spice Girl Geri Haliwell, was chairman of Red Bull Racing, Red Bull Technology, Red Bull Power Trains, and marketing.

The owners have since appointed Laurent Mekies as the new CEO of Red Bull Racing, stepping up from the Racing Bulls team.

Horner reportedly had another row with Jos at Silverstone on Sunday, according to former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher.

Schumacher told the Boxengasse-podcast: “There was another argument or a heated exchange, at least visually and verbally between Jos, Christian Horner, and the press officer.

“You could see that Jos was anything but happy with the situation”.

It comes after a series of rows between Verstappen Snr and Horner, with the Dutchman repeatedly calling for Horner’s dismissal after the sexting scandal broke hours before the Bahrain race in 2024.

Horner’s wife Geri was reportedly devastated by the scandal, but stood by her husband in showing signs of solidarity at key races.

In total, Horner won EIGHT drivers’ championships and six constructors’ titles.

For the first time ever, a new team principal, Mekies, will lead Red Bull at the Belgian Grand Prix on July 27 after a three week break.

Girl injured in Southport attack asks ‘how will I be normal again?’ as parents reveal torment at inquiry into tragedy

A YOUNG girl injured in the Southport attack still asks “how will I ever be normal again”, her heartbroken mum told a public inquiry today.

Triple killer Axel Rudakubana launched into a savage knife attack at a Taylor Swift dance class last summer.

Parents of those injured in the Southport attack today revealed their torment

Axel Rudakubana was jailed for life

The 18-year-old murdered Bebe King, six, Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, and Alice Dasilva Aguiar, nine, and injured other children in the horror.

A public inquiry will now look at whether the attack could or should have been prevented given what was known about the killer.

Today, the parents of children injured in the July 29 massacre opened up on their torment almost a year on.

One mum whose daughter was attacked said her daughter became “very withdrawn, emotional and had so many worries” after witnessing the horror.

She asks still: “How will I ever be normal again?”

Her mum said arriving to collect her daughter on that day and seeing screaming children from the building was “the most horrific experience of my life”.

She told how the girl, referred to only as Child Q, is now anxious about not being with her parents and is still scared when she hears a siren.

She continued: “She is still unable to sleep alone and struggles with falling asleep. She always asks for doors to be closed when we enter or leave a room, this helps her to feel safe.

“Changes have also been made at school; she now sits where she can see the door so she can always be aware of who is entering the classroom.

“On a few occasions she has been unable to attend school due to her anxiety, explaining this as her tummy feels funny and hiding under the dining table at home.”

The dad of one of the girls, named as C3, told Liverpool Town Hall it was “patently clear that lessons need to be learned from what happened, and processes need to be changed”.

Sitting beside the girl’s mother in the witness box, he said: “Our nine-year-old daughter was stabbed three times in the back by a coward she didn’t even see.

“Although she didn’t know what was happening – she knew she had to run.”

Describing his daughter as his “hero”, the father said she remained “the positive, caring, funny, enthusiastic, courageous girl she always was”.

He said: “She wears her scars with a dignity and defiance that is remarkable.”

One mum, whose seven-year-old daughter C8 was injured, said she was at work when she received a “panicked phone call” from her friend’s mum.

She told how she rushed to the scene and saw “something no parent should ever see”.

The mum said her daughter, who suffered injuries to her arm and face, could not be left alone any more and only felt safe with a small number of people.

She continued: “I am grateful beyond words that she survived. But what she went through, what she saw and what she continues to carry has changed everything.”

Another mum sobbed as she told how her daughter and the girls involved deserve the truth, accountability, an apology and the promise changes will be made.

She revealed she is “terrified” for her daughter to learn what the inquiry finds as it will be “earth-shattering for her and we will have to begin her recovery again”.

The mum added: “We are trying to shield her as much as possible whilst we understand this ourselves.

“She has every right to ask these questions. This inquiry must answer them.”

Retired senior judge Sir Adrian Fulford is leading the review, which has now been formally postponed until September.

He has made the decision not to name the killer and instead refer to him as AR.

In his opening statement, the chairman said Rudakubana’s actions were “almost unimaginable but nonetheless mercilessly calculated”.

The inquiry has been split into two phases, with the first focusing on the circumstances leading to the attack and AR’s contact with Prevent.

Sir Adrian will now examine how young people are “drawn into extreme violence” during the second phase.

Following the horror, it emerged the killer had a “sickening interest in death” and had made chilling searches for school massacres before carrying out the rampage.

His morbid fascination saw him flagged three times to anti-terror programme Prevent but no further action was taken.

What happened in Southport?

THE horror unfolded last summer as 26 excited children gathered for the dance class to kick off the summer holidays.

The two-hour event had been organised by instructors Leanne Lucas and Heidi Liddle at The Hart Space.

Just three miles away, Rudakubana had armed himself with a 20cm knife.

Chilling footage showed the killer pacing outside his home before being picked up in a taxi.

Just 30 minutes later, he arrived at the community centre as the children sang Taylor Swift songs and made friendship bracelets.

Leanne opened a window due to the summer heat and saw the masked teen outside but thought nothing of it.

But seconds later, the door opened and Rudakubana stormed into the class and began attacking children and adults at random.

Screams rang out as the killer teen systematically made his way through the room stabbing his victims with the black-handled Cerbera kitchen knife.

Hero dance teacher Leanne was stabbed in the arms, neck and back as she used her body to shield young girls from the knifeman.

She screamed at the children to “run away”

Her colleague Heidi Liddle escaped uninjured after bravely locking some of the children inside a toilet.

Businessman Jonathan Hayes, who was working in the office next door, was attacked after he ran inside and tried to stop the carnage.

At 11.57am – 12 minutes after the rampage began – police stormed the scene.

Officers found Rudakubana holding the large, bloodied kitchen knife and he was arrested.

After the horror attack, the teen said “I’m glad they’re dead” as he was held in a custody suite.

As a result, the killer was free to storm the Hart Space community centre and begin senselessly knifing terrified children and adults.

A rapid review into his contact with Prevent found his case should have been kept open.

It also concluded Rudakubana should have been referred to Channel, another anti-terror scheme.

The killer pleaded guilty to three counts of murder and ten of attempted murder.

He also admitted two terror offences after police found ricin and an Al-Qaeda manual at his home.

Despite this, cops are still not treating the attack as terror-related.

He was jailed for life with a minimum of 52 years following the horrific triple murder but will likely never be released.

Netflix make U-turn from last Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano fight after huge backlash to broadcast set-up

NETFLIX have taken heed of the many complaints around its commentary team for Katie Taylor’s last fight with Amanda Serrano.

Bizarrely, actor Rosie Perez was alongside ring legend Roy Jones Jr. as co-commentator on account of her simply being a boxing fan and of Puerto Rican heritage like Serrano.

Upon Taylor’s unanimous victory being announced, Perez claimed it would “be an asterisk on her record” in a blatantly biased assessment of what was a close fight.

To her credit, she did admit her regret over that comment in the days afterwards.

The 60-year-old reflected: “There was one moment that I did regret in the Taylor/Serrano fight, because it came out wrong.

“If anybody jumped on me for that, that’s fair, and that’s when I said Katie Taylor will have an asterisk on her name because of these fights.

“What I wanted to say was it was unfortunate that people will think about Katie Taylor with an asterisk on her name because of the head-butting and the rubbing.

“That I regret because I have such great respect for Katie Taylor as a fighter and I think I was just caught up in the emotion of the moment.

“I would correct myself on that. I would think twice about saying stuff and how to say it to make sure that I am clear and it cannot be misconstrued because I’m sure it was.

“That just haunts me. That statement just haunts me.”

On the flip side to Perez and primary commentator Mauro Ranallo, Roy Jones Jr backed Taylor as the correct winner.

Confirmation has now come that neither Perez nor any other showbiz figure will be part of the broadcast team this time around when Taylor and Serrano engage in round three of their rivalry.

The line-up in full is as follows:

  • Host: Kate Scott
  • Analysts: Andre Ward, Laila Ali
  • Ringside commentary: Sean Grande, Seniesa Estrada, Laila Ali
  • Ringside interviews: Ariel Helwani, Sibley Scoles
  • In-ring announcer: Kody ‘Big Mo’ Mommaerts
  • Rules and scoring: Sean Wheelock

It’s worth noting that Laila Ali is the daughter of all-time boxing great Muhammad and a former champion boxer in her own right.

She and The Bray Bomer memorably shared a warm embrace after the first occasion she defeated Serrano which was also held at Madison Square Garden.

KT believes she gave one of her greatest ever performances last November when she defeated Serrano for a second time.

The 2012 Olympic gold medallist — who fought her first fight as an amateur in 2001 — said: “It was definitely one of my best performances.

“I love the way I was able to push her back and outfight her. I think I outboxed her in the first fight. I actually outfought her in the second.”

She added: “I recently looked back at that fight and if you turn the commentary off, it’s actually a very, very clear win for me.

“There was no controversy whatsoever. The commentary made it controversial but I was very happy with that performance.

“But there’s still more I can do as well, which is very positive for me. It was a great performance but I feel like I still haven’t shown my best. That’s very, very exciting for me.”

Gemma Atkinson’s son Thiago, 2, rushed to hospital in ‘scary’ incident hours before christening

GEMMA Atkinson’s two-year-old son Thiago has been rushed to hospital following a “scary” incident.

The ex-Hollyoaks star, who shares daughter named Mia, six, and son Thiago with Strictly dancer and fiancé Gorka Marquez, shared the health update with fans on social media on Wednesday.

The ‘scary’ incident happened just hours before Thiago and daughter Mia’s christening[/caption]

Gemma shared a clip of her working out in her home gym.

The mum-of-two said Thiago was rushed to A&E on Saturday night as the youngster received treatment into the early hours.

Despite the ordeal, the family were still able to attend the service for Mia and Thiago’s christening just hours after the hospital dash.

Gemma wrote: “We had such a busy weekend with a big build up & lots of organising. A family birthday tea for Mia on Friday, her party for her school friends Saturday, both Mia & Thiagos christening on Sunday and on top of that a trip to A&E with Thiago sat night.

“We were there until 1am Sunday morning and still somehow rocked up to church at 9.30.

“We were exhausted but we had the best day.”

The soap star did not detail exactly what happened to her son, but reassured fans that he was on the mend.

She continued: “He’s absolutely fine! But it was a scary few hours and I wanted to say a massive thank you to Bolton hospital children’s A&E department, and also the lovely paramedics who took us up there. God bless our NHS!”

Gemma’s followers were quick to comment on the star’s post and to share their support.

One wrote: “Glad to hear Thiago is ok, nothing worse than when the kids get really unwell.”

A second shared: “Happy to hear Thiago’s OK though, they do scare us these kids.”

In May The Sun revealed that Gemma and Gorka had been delivered a devastating blow as their reality show was axed.

Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind The Lens followed the couple’s lives as they juggled their busy work commitments with family life.

But unfortunately, The Sun can reveal that the couple’s fly-on-the wall show has now been shelved after just two series.

The programme had aired on the channel U&W, which is part of the UKTV family.

Confirming the news, a UKTV spokesperson said: “It’s been a privilege to make two series of Gemma and Gorka: Life Behind the Lens with Two Rivers Media.

Gemma and Gorka are both very busy with other projects at the moment, so at this time, there are no current plans for another series, but we look forward to working with them again soon.”

Gemma, 40, found fame on Channel 4’s Hollyoaks before moving to ITV soap Emmerdale. She is now the drive time host on Hits Radio.

She met professional dancer Gorka, 34, when appearing on the 2017 series of Strictly Come Dancing.

Gemma did not dance with Gorka, as she was partnered with Aljaz Skorjanec on the show, however the pair hit it off backstage.

The couple welcomed their first child into the world, daughter Mia, in July 2019. They got engaged two years later.

Aliens could use Heathrow Airport as homing beacon to find us & experts reveal how long it might take them to get here

HUMANS have been searching for aliens for decades – but all this time, intelligent extraterrestrial life could have found us, according to a new study.

Heathrow Airport has been acting as a sort of homing beacon to find us, experts at have revealed at the Royal Astronomical Society’s National Astronomy Meeting (NAM 2025) in Durham.

exoplanet

But it’s not just Heathrow – the largest and busiest airport in the UK, but Gatwick and New York’s JFK International Airport, too.

All civilian airports and military bases that use radar systems have been inadvertently revealing our existence to potential advanced alien civilizations, new research suggests.

If aliens are equipped with state-of-the-art radio telescopes like our own – they would be able to spot hidden electromagnetic leakage from these Earth sites up to 200 light-years away.

The study also suggests that 200 light-years is just how far humans would be able to look to spot aliens who have evolved to use a similar level of technology.

As airport radar systems sweep the skies for airplanes, they send out a combined radio signal of 2×1015 watts, the researchers said.

Airport radar systems sweep the skies for airplanes[/caption]

That’s enough power to be picked up as far as 200 light-years away by telescopes as strong as the Green Bank Telescope in West Virginia, the world’s biggest fully steerable radio telescope.

For context, the nearest potentially habitable world beyond our solar system is Proxima Centauri b, which is 4 light-years away.

And while it would take thousands of years to get there with today’s technology, there are a number of potentially habitable worlds in that distance.

Lead researcher Ramiro Caisse Saide, of the University of Manchester, said these signals would look “clearly artificial to anyone watching from interstellar distances with powerful radio telescopes.”

The Ph.D student added: “In fact, these military signals can appear up to a hundred times stronger from certain points in space, depending on where an observer is located.

“Our findings suggest that radar signals – produced unintentionally by any planet with advanced technology and complex aviation system – could act as a universal sign of intelligent life.”

By simulating how these radar signals emit from Earth over time and space, the researchers looked at how visible they would be from nearby stars.

The research may help guide other scientists on identifying promising technosignatures emitted by alien worlds, Saide explained.

Co-researcher, Professor Michael Garrett, of the University of Manchester, added: “By learning how our signals travel through space, we gain valuable insights into how to protect the radio spectrum for communications and design future radar systems.

“The methods developed for modeling and detecting these weak signals can also be used in astronomy, planetary defence, and even in monitoring the impact of human technology on our space environment.”

I’m a Devon local who’s walked the South West Coast Path numerous times – my best spots The Salt Path movie doesn’t show

STANDING at the top of a cliff, with serene waters lapping onto the rocks below with beaches either side of me, this place feels as if I am on the coast of Italy – not Devon.

The South West Coast Path – also known as The Salt Path – stretches over 630miles in its entirety.

Part of that route includes The English Riviera in Devon – with numerous beaches and coves[/caption]

And one ‘small’ (around 13 miles to be precise) section of it, I’ve walked year after year thanks to the fact that I grew up in Devon.

The South West Coast Path has been famous for decades for providing some of the most stunning views of the UK’s coasts.

Yet, with the recent release of The Salt Path film based on Raynor Winn’s 2018 book, the trail has been launched back into the limelight.

Starting at Brixham at around 9am, I would set off to reach my secondary school based in Torquay – several cliff-edge walks, beach crossings and town excursions away.

This section of the path runs along the coasts of the English Riviera – including the historic fishing town of Brixham, the traditional seaside town of Paignton and then finally, the home of Agatha Christie – Torquay.

And along this section of Devon’s coast are several stunning spots and unique places to explore – hence, doing this walk each year was a real treat.

Brixham

Heading across from Torquay on the ferry, I would join the coastal path in Brixham.

Home to a bustling harbour with a long history of fishing, Brixham is a quaint town at one end of the English Riviera.

For those wanting to do the walk more leisurely, it is well worth exploring the town for its myriad of independent shops and the Golden Hind – a full-size replica of Sir Francis Drake’s ship that he used to explore the globe in the 16th century.

Heading around the harbour and past the fish market, you will then pass Brixham Laboratory – which is home to a cutting-edge marine research facility – before heading off into a wood area.

On the headland you will get your first amazing views of the harbour and English Riviera ahead of you – full of colourful bobbing boats and – if you’re lucky – some seals in sight.

The headland itself is also a historic spot – home to Brixham Battery – the little buildings scattered across the headland are actually disused bunkers that used to house guns in World War II.

You’ll then come to the first of many coves on the route – Fishcombe Cove.

It features a little pebble beach and a cafe, in case you want to stop for a bite.

Heading through another small woodland, you then reach Churston Cove – another small pebble beach.

This section of the walk is particularly up-and-down though, with many steep inclines – so not for the faint-hearted.

Just before you start the Paignton section of the path, you will cross Elberry Cove – a stunning pebble beach, often with turquoise waters and a historic bath house ruin.

Paignton

Across another headland with dramatic cliff edges, walkers will then reach the first sandy beach on this part of the path.

Broadsands Beach is a long, family-friendly beach with a range of facilities including cafes, beach huts, toilets, car parking and kayak and paddleboard hire.

Many of my weekends as a child would be spent on this beach rock pooling and building sandcastles.

And the beach has lifeguards too, so even when I got too much sand in my eyes there was someone to help.

Following the path, you will then head inland a bit to Broadsands Viaduct, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Over another headland, with a narrow sandy path right at the cliff edge, you then reach Goodrington Beach – another long sandy beach popular with families.

There is also a whole host of venues and activities here to explore, including crazy golf, a boating lake and Splashdown Quaywest – the largest outdoor waterpark in the UK.

Following the path along the beach and over another headland, you then reach Paignton harbour, beach and town.

Take some time here to refresh in one of the many cafes and restaurant and have some fun with the slot machines on the pier before heading off towards Torquay.

Torquay

For the final part of this section of the South West Coast Path, you will venture onto some roads before reaching Livermead sand, just ahead of Torquay beach and town.

Whilst I used to then venture off to the quaint village of Cockington to then head back to my school, Torquay boasts a number of other family-friendly beaches.

And Torquay town also has so much to explore including a pretty harbour – which is always great for some expensive boat spotting – and a bustling high street.

Make sure to grab some fish and chips, pasties or even a cream tea (with cream first!) as this town really does Devon delicacies well.

And then if you are feeling extra ambitious, you can continue along the path onto Babbacombe and Teignmouth.

These are the 10 stunning UK beaches starring in the new Hollywood movie – from little-known coves to underground tunnels.

Plus, the UK’s best seaside walks have been revealed including a secret celeb-loved island.
