The hottest month in Biarritz is August, but with temperatures already reaching 30C, now is an ideal time to visit.

Biarritz is one of France’s most breathtaking coastal cities, renowned for its breathtaking beaches, luxury resorts and Basque cuisine.

And Ryanair flights from Dublin start at just €33 this August.

Situated on France’s southwestern coast, this fabulous city outlooks the Atlantic Ocean – and it attracts thousands of visitors every year with its laid-back atmosphere and sunny weather.

The sunshine spot is also one of the more budget-friendly destinations in the south of France, offering excellent value for money compared to places like Saint-Tropez or Nice.

What’s more, a recent study looked at 500 destinations across France in regards to livability.

Conducted by Le Journal du Dimanche, factors included infrastructure, the local environment and safety.

And Biarritz was named the top place to live, beating other well known French cities such as Lyon (79) and Paris (101).

The city’s mayor said: “Since 2020, we have been working to enhance our heritage, improve daily life, all while preserving our way of life – close to nature and deeply rooted in our culture.”

Biarritz lies along the Bay of Biscay, with miles of golden sandy beaches and lined with surf shops, seafood restaurants and ocean-view cafes.

The underrated sunshine spot is also home to some of the region’s most scenic beaches.

This includes Grande Plage and Côte des Basques – both popular for their soft sands, powerful waves and stunning sunsets over the ocean.

Water-based activities are also hugely popular in the warmer months, such as surfing, paddleboarding and sailing.

What’s more, tourists can take boat trips to spot dolphins, explore hidden coves or discover the rugged Basque coastline from the sea.

For those who prefer to stay on land, there’s plenty to do – including walking tours of the old port, cycling along the coast and shopping in traditional Basque markets.

Biarritz is a fantastic destination for history lovers.

There are tonnes of fascinating sites such as the Rocher de la Vierge, the Biarritz Lighthouse and the elegant Hôtel du Palais, once a royal residence.

VIBRANT NIGHTLIFE

Biarritz is also known for its vibrant nightlife, with bars, pubs, nightclubs and beach clubs offering live music and drinks throughout the year.

Here, you can grab a pint of beer or a cocktail by the beach for around €4 to €8, the perfect way to unwind after a day exploring the town.

And for more of a taste of local flavor, head to the Halles de Biarritz market, where you can sample fresh cheeses, meats and pastries from the region.

The sunshine spot also hosts year-round events, such as the Biarritz Surf Festival, perfect for learning to surf the waves of the Atlantic Ocean.

Biarritz is easy to get to with direct flights into Biarritz Pays Basque Airport from major European cities – including Dublin.

Whilst The Sun is keeping shtum on the results of last night’s recoupling – which will air on screen tonight – fans will be shocked at one coupling in particular.

Heading into the relationship test, only Dejon and Meg were settled but Helena and Harry and Tommy and Emily seemed on their way to locking in.

A source said: “The Casa Amor recoupling is always hotly anticipated and this year the Islanders have been quick off the mark.

“Bosses were left gobsmacked by how far some of them were prepared to take it to ‘test their connection’, as they always like to say.

“It’s been the raunchiest break ever, with lots of bedroom scenes not even making it to air.

“But there’s one choice in particular that will have fans gasping at their telly, this pair in particular have been the subject of hot discussion and there were real question marks over what could happen at the recoupling.”

It comes after The Sun revealed the villa has been rocked by a mass dumping with SIX singles being dumped from the villa after Casa Amor.

After the raunchiest midway break yet, the recoupling more than delivered with a wave of explosive decisions.

Whilst The Sun is keeping shtum on the results of last night’s recoupling – which will air on screen tonight – we can reveal that the switch-up left six Islanders single.

And they’ve already left the villa.

A source added: “The Casa Amor recoupling is always hotly anticipated and this year the Islanders have been quick off the mark.

“Bosses were left gobsmacked by how far some of them were prepared to take it to ‘test their connection’, as they always like to say.

“It’s been the raunchiest break ever, with lots of bedroom scenes not even making it to air.

“It’s all led to spicy recoupling and six Islanders have bitten the dust.”

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.

It is located in County Wexford, stretches for 11km from Raven Point to Ballyconigar near Blackwater – and it is a particularly safe area for bathing.

And the beach has shaded areas near the Raven Nature Reserve if you need a break from the heat – as temperatures are set to soar to 28C.

The golden strand is accompanied by hilly sand dunes where various plants bloom in spring and summer.

The beach was featured in the Hollywood blockbuster Saving Private Ryan during the opening scene.

Many locals joined the cast as extras for the scene, which re-created D-Day, in the movie by director Steven Spielberg.

Curracloe Beach is one of six beaches in Co Wexford to receive the Blue Flag in 2025.

The Blue Flag Award is an international award recognising beaches for excellent water quality, environmental management, and safety.

WILDLIFE SPOTTING

While in the area, head to Raven Point Wood walk, where you may see some red squirrels, grey seals and other wildlife.

The sand dunes are being conserved by the Wexford County Council, ensuring that the area remains preserved.

The beach has three entrances – known as Ballinsker, White Gap and Culletons Gap locally.

There are around 500 parking spaces, the majority of which are at White Gap.

There are four disabled parking spaces at White Gap and two at Ballineskar.

You can also get a Beach Wheelchair for free at White Gap, though pre-booking is recommended through the warden.

There are male, female and disabled toilets available at White Gap, and just male and female amenities at Ballinesker.

They are open on bank holiday weekends and from October to May, seven days a week, from 8am to 9pm.

Lifeguards are on site at White Gap during the summer months.

Curracloe Beach is situated only two hours from Dublin city and to get there, you have to take the Irish Rail services from Dublin Connolly to Wexford O’Hanrahan station.

‘Be prepared’ alert for Irish tourists as 39C temp & ‘severe thunderstorms’ warning issued for 6 Spain holiday hotspots

IRISH tourists have been warned to “be prepared” for adverse weather in Spain as severe heat and thunderstorm warnings are issued across six holiday destinations.

Relief from extreme heat reached areas of Europe over the weekend as the region cooled off after record-breaking 46.6C temperatures.

At least eight people died across Europe – four people in Spain, two in France, and two in Italy – as a result of the summer heatwave.

And although the extreme heat has been lifting over the last number of days, Irish tourists heading over to Spain on holidays have been warned temperatures are still extremely hot.

There is a severe thunderstorm warning in place for Gúdar and Maestrazgo, located northeast of Valencia, until 9pm tonight.

AEMET, Spain’s national weather forecaster, said: “Be prepared. Take precautions and keep up to date with the latest weather forecast.

“Severe damages to people and properties may occur, especially to those vulnerable or in exposed areas.”

Ourense in northwestern Spain has also been placed under a severe Status Orange alert, but those in the area have been warned of high temperatures.

AEMET warned temperatures could max out at a sweltering 39C.

Another high temperature warning has been issued for those in Madrid, with weather boffins warning 36C heat could blast the area.

Those holidaying on the south coast of Tarragona have been placed under a rain alert, being warned of the risk of 20 mm of rain in just one hour.

In Toledo, temperatures may hit 38C, with tourists being warned to stay outside during the hottest parts of the day, hydrate, use sunscreen and seek shade.

Looking at forecast for today, AEMET said: “Heavy to very heavy showers are expected along the coasts of Tarragona and the Valencian Community in the early morning.

“Thunderstorms and possible heavy showers are expected in the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula and the northern Valencian Community in the afternoon, with possible showers in the eastern Central System and Soria.

“Significantly high maximum temperatures are expected, exceeding 34C-36C in large areas of the southern half and even inland areas of Galicia, the northern plateau, and the Ebro River.”

In Portugal, tourists in the Bragança and Vila Real areas of the country have been warned of a high temperature alert.

Temperatures are expected to reach 38C.

‘AFFECT TRAVEL PLANS’

Ireland’s Department of Foreign Affairs warned tourists to keep up to date with the weather forecast.

It said: “Spain can at times experience extreme weather conditions, including flooding, which can adversely affect travel plans.

You can monitor information and alerts, including severe weather warnings, on the website of the Spanish Meteorological Agency, AEMET.

Citizens are advised to check the latest weather information before they travel and to follow the advice of the local authorities.

Spain’s weather warnings come as Ireland braces to be hit with searing 30C temperatures and widespread sunshine this week.

BEAT THE HEAT

MANY people enjoy the warm weather and look forward to sunshine and high temperatures heating up the country each summer.

But heatwaves can cause heat exhaustion, sunburn and heatstroke.

The HSE advises prioritising hydration, seeking shade or cooler indoor spaces, wearing light-coloured, loose-fitting clothing and making use of cool showers and baths to beat the heat.

When inside you should:

  • Turn off lights and appliances not in use as they generate heat
  • Close windows that face the sun during the day, and open them at night when the temperature drops
  • Close curtains in rooms that get morning or afternoon sun
  • Sprinkle water on your skin, or keep a damp cloth on the back of your neck
  • Use an electric fan

When outside you should:

  • Avoid going out during the hottest part of the day
  • Wear light and loose-fitting clothing that covers your skin
  • Wear a wide brimmed hat and sunglasses
  • Regularly apply a broad-spectrum water-resistant sunscreen
  • Stay in the shade

Met Eireann could issue their own weather warnings for the country as the weather heats up and there is the possibility that temperatures may break records.

A Status Yellow high temperatures warning is issued if temperatures over a wide area exceed 27C at their max and 15C at their minimum.

A Status Orange “threat to life” high temperature warning is issued if maximum temperatures are in excess of 30C for three consecutive days and a minimum of 20C for consecutive nights.

Meteorologist Cathal Nolan from Ireland’s Weather Channel warned that temperatures could hit 30C in some counties on Saturday and Sunday.

He said: “Highs of between 25-27C are likely on Friday, with values reaching up to 28-30C on Saturday, with an outside chance that values could even top out at 31C on Sunday.”

Future of two huge GAA managers confirmed as Brian Lohan and Stephen Rochford’s next step announced

STEPHEN Rochford makes shock career move following Mayo’s exit from the All-Ireland football Championship.

Rochford was announced as a new Tullamore GAA coach and will be working under new manager and former Offaly player Paul McConway.

Clare senior hurling manager Brian Lohan’s future has been announced

McConway – Tullamore GAA’s most decorated footballer since the 1930s – began his coaching journey at the start of the season as he retired from playing last year.

He took over from Niall Stack, the most successful manager in the club’s modern era.

The new-look management team will look to win Tullamore’s third successive Offaly senior football title with Stack having won three titles in his five years in charge.

The highly experienced coach took over as Mayo head coach from Kevin McStay who stepped back due to health reasons in May.

Rochford masterminded a surprise 2-17 to 1-13 victory over Tyrone in his first game but was unsuccessful in taking his side into the All-Ireland knockout stages.

A defeat to Donegal in the final group game saw the Westerners finish bottom of their group and knocked out of the Championship.

Following the disappointing end to the season McStay was ‘relieved’ of his duties as Mayo manager and as was his management team.

Rochford led Mayo to back to back All-Ireland finals in 2016 and 2017 losing out to Dublin on both occasions before resigning following a shock exit to Kildare in the 2018 championship.

The former Mayo manager has experienced club management success as he managed Corrofin in Galway to All-Ireland club glory in 2015.

Meanwhile Brian Lohan has extended his tenure as Clare senior hurling manager by three years.

This is Lohan’s third extension in his time as Clare boss and this extension will bring him up to 2028.

According to Clare FM reports the Wolfe Tones man was backed by delegates at yesterday’s county board meeting to continue in his role.

It was a disappointing season for the Banner county who failed to make it out of Munster to the All-Ireland stages.

Lohan’s side only recorded one win in this years championship in a dead rubber meeting with a weakened Limerick side and were also relegated from Division 1A.

But the Clare county board have backed their manager who brought them league and Liam MacCarthy Cup glory last year to get them back on track.

His backroom team is set to be announced in the coming weeks with another board meeting scheduled to decide.

Under-20 and minor hurling managers are also set to stay for next season with Terence Fahy and Ger O’Connell continuing to take charge of the two teams respectively.

Clare senior football manager Peter Keane is yet to commit his future with the Banner county as Under-20 and minor managers set to be confirmed in the coming weeks also.

United have already signed Matheus Cunha

But they will only do it at a reasonable cost.

SunSport understands that Serbian forward Dusan Vlahovic is high on their list of targets.

And they could even get him for FREE, with Juventus reportedly willing to rip up his contract.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Juventus are looking to cut his £20million-a-year wages.

And the Italians may even be up for cancelling his contract.

Meetings are scheduled to take place next week with several Premier League clubs.

One of those is set to be Arsenal, who have been linked in the past also keeping tabs on the situation.

The Serbian has scored 43 league goals in 104 appearances for Juventus and is seen as an ideal target man who could immediately strengthen United’s front line.

BEST ONLINE CASINOS – TOP SITES IN THE UK

Dusan Vlahovic's Juventus 2024-25 season statistics.

The cash-strapped United hierarchy are hunting for bargains this summer as they look to bolster Ruben Amorim’s squad.

SunSport revealed earlier this window that English trio Callum Wilson, Jamie Vardy, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin — all free agents — have been offered to United as the club explores cut-price options.

United have already signed Matheus Cunha for £62.5million and are in talks to land Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford in a deal that could cost up to £65million in total.

Last season, Amorim’s side endured a difficult campaign, finishing 15th in the league, their worst finish in recent history, winning only 11 of their 38 matches.

They also lost the Europa League final to Tottenham, making history as the first side in 17 years to hand the Lilywhites a trophy of any kind.

There is belief, however, that with the right reinforcements, Portuguese boss Ruben Amorim could turn things around.
