Channel 5 launches new challenge show inspired by iconic Eddie Murphy film

An image collage containing 1 images, Image 1 shows Channel 5 logo

EDDIE MURPHY’s Eighties movie Trading Places is the inspiration for a new TV project.

The Channel 5 show has the same name and will see two people with very different lifestyles have to walk in one another’s shoes.

So you might end up watching a banker try his hand at farming, or a violinist become a lorry driver, or a ballerina ditch their tights in favour of working on an oil rig.

It is based on the story at the heart of comedy Trading Places, which sees Eddie’s down-and-out character Billy Ray Valentine trade positions with upper-class stock broker Louis Winthorpe, played by Dan Aykroyd.

Meanwhile, snobbish Louis becomes a street hustler and pals with local hooker, played by Jamie Lee Curtis.

A TV insider said: “While this has strong echoes of the 1983 movie, it has a retro feel to it for more than one reason.

“The new project definitely has a whiff of Channel 4’s Wife Swap or Faking It, which were hugely successful in the Nineties and Noughties.

“Though this does take things to higher level, as there is an implied amount of competition given that it’s two people trying to excel in the other’s field of expertise.”

But the experience goes much further than their nine-to-five job.

The participants will live in one another’s houses, take over their hobbies, and even socialise with their friends and families.

They will even have to follow the other’s sleep routines — and neither has the faintest idea what the other does for a living before they start filming the show.

DAMIAN’S GALAXY OF STARS

ACTING royalty DamiaN Lewis brought together a galaxy of stars for the launch of Lightroom’s Prehistoric Planet: Discovering Dinosaurs.

The attraction, in King’s Cross London, is a new immersive experience that takes visitors back to prehistoric times, 66 million years ago.

Damian, who played Henry VIII in the BBC’s Wolf Hall dramas, lends his dulcet tones to proceedings as the narrator.

But at the official launch he was also playing host to a string of famous pals including Billie Piper and GMB host Kate Garraway.

Other big names attending included Kay Burley, Anita Rani, Charlotte Ritchie and Matt Johnson.

The prehistoric world was brought vividly to life through Lightroom’s cutting-edge 360-degree projection technology – and all to the sound of a score by Hanz Zimmer.

LIAM’S GIFT TO SINGERS

NICOLE SCHERZINGER has told how co-star Liam Payne would put in extra hours behind the scenes of Building The Band to help the wannabes.

The late singer is also a judge and mentor on the Netflix talent show that launched yesterday.

It was filmed prior to his shock death last October.

Nicole, who was a guest judge on The X Factor in 2010 when Liam found fame with One Direction, said of his time on Building The Band: “He was in his happy place coming full circle, having started out in a similar situation on a talent reality show, and then having the global success that he has had, and then to be able to give back and to mentor bands.

“He put in the extra hours to work with these bands even off screen.

“He was giving back and that’s one of his gifts.”

AMY SET FOR LAST LAUGH

THE first comedian primed to join a new star-studded cast of Jimmy Carr’s Last One Laughing is Amy Gledhill

She has been snapped up by Prime Video for the second series of the hit comedy show, which drops next year.

Jimmy is back to host the show challenging ten of the UK’s funniest people enter a room for a six-hour battle of wills – where the last one to laugh is crowned the winner.

Amy will follow in the footsteps of Bob Mortimer, Daisy May Cooper and Joe Lycett who featured in the first outing.

An insider told The Sun: “Amy is not massively known as yet, but she’s a rising star who has already achieved acclaimed success at the UK National Comedy Awards and Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

“Last One Laughing is the perfect opportunity to show off her talent – and help catapult her onto the worldwide stage.”

ROSE’S THRILLER GROWS

ITV has commissioned a second series of thriller Code of Silence which stars Rose Ayling-Ellie.

The first, six part series was widely acclaimed when it aired on ITV1 and ITVX in May and June and the first episode consolidated with 7.5m viewers

In particularly, people tuning in were impressed by it putting a deaf character, Alison, at the heart of the action.

Former EastEnders and Strictly winner Rose, who plays the key role, said: “I’m so proud that Code of Silence has been recommissioned.

“The response to the first series has been incredible, and it means so much to be part of a drama that not only keeps audiences on the edge of their seats, but also puts a Deaf character at the heart of the story.

“I’m really excited to see where Alison’s journey goes next and to be working again with the wonderful cast, crew and creative team behind the show.”

A NEW trailer has dropped for series two of Netflix hit Wednesday, and it suggests Jenna Ortega‘s eponymous lead is in grave danger.

During one of her psychic visions, she learns her best friend Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers) will die and it is her fault. It lands on August 6.

NETFLIX’s longest-running unscripted series Queer Eye has been canned.

The lifestyle show followed the Fab Five – experts in fashion, design, relationships, grooming and interiors – as they made over willing contributors.Since its 2018 debut more than 90 episodes have been aired.

Stewardess, 20, brutally knifed to death in engine room of £9.5m luxury yacht off billionaires’ island

A YOUNG crew member has been brutally killed on board a luxury yacht moored off a billionaires’ playground.

The body of Paige Bell, 20, was found in the engine room after the vessel docked off an exclusive island in the Bahamas.

The alleged murder shocked the exclusive resort of Harbour Island
Map showing location of Harbour Island in the Bahamas, where a yacht attack occurred.

Paige, from Johannesburg, South Africa, was described as a ‘golden girl’ by friends and worked as a guest relations officer on the £9.5million charter yacht Far From It.

A 39-year-old Mexican mechanic who worked alongside Paige below deck has been arrested for her murder.

It is said she fought back but was overpowered by her shipmate, whose motive is under police investigation.

The engineer appeared at New Providence magistrates court in the Bahamas today charged with savagely murdering the 20-year-old last Thursday.

A statement from Paige’s family says: “Our family is facing an unimaginable journey.

“This evening mom and dad are flying to the Bahamas to begin the painful process of not only bringing their baby girl home but also seeking justice for the monster that took her life.

“We are devastated beyond words and now we must also navigate complex and costly legal proceedings in a foreign country – something far beyond our financial means.

“This heart-breaking loss has been deeply felt by everyone who knew and loved “Paigey” – her former captain, the boat owner, all the crew on board and our entire community.

“We are humbly asking for your support whether by sharing this message or contributing financially, every bit helps. Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers.

“We are grateful for your love, support, and solidarity during this incredibly difficult time.

The alleged murder shocked the exclusive resort of Harbour Island which is a 3 mile by 1.5 mile playground for the rich and famous and a mecca for superyachts.

It lies 60 miles to the east of the capital Nassau just off the larger island of Eleuthera.

Bill Gates has a mansion on the tiny island and regular holidaymakers include Mick Jagger, Prince Harry, Tom Cruise, Kardashians, Harrison Ford and Tom Hanks.

It is known as the “Billionaires Backyard” as over 20 billionaires live on the paradise island.

A huge bash was being planned for Friday in the marina and on the yacht to mark Paige’s 21st birthday – which had been planned by her boyfriend.

Crew on the exclusive yacht which costs £120,000-a-week to charter were puzzled last week when there was no sign of Paige or answer from her phone.

They searched all six luxury VIP suites and the crew quarters before one member of staff went down into the engine room where they discovered the horror.

Paige’s dead body was reportedly found on the floor.

Her shipmate was lying close to her covered in blood with a knife in his hand, with both his wrists slashed, police said.

Officers were called to the vessel at 1pm on July 3 and found the suspect still alive but bleeding heavily beside the young victim’s body.

A Bahamas police spokesman said: “We are investigating a murder and a suspected suicide attempt after a woman from South Africa was found dead on a yacht at Harbour Island.

“According to a preliminary report shortly after 1pm on July 3, the police were alerted to an incident on a yacht and proceeded to the marina area and went aboard Far From It.

“Once on board the vessel officers discovered a female unresponsive with visible signs of injuries and a Mexican national close by suffering from severe injuries to his arms.

“The local doctor who had been called to the scene pronounced the victim deceased.

“As police investigated further it was discovered that the victim was missing for a short period before being found unresponsive in the engine room with the male suspect.

“We can confirm that a 39-year-old Mexican national will be arraigned before magistrates today charged with murder which stem from the death of a 20-year-old South African.

“She was found on board a vessel at Harbour Island, Eleuthera, on Thursday, July 3.”

Professional burglar who was on run from cops in UK arrested by gardai in Meath as two other fugitives remain at large

Barney Casey was part of the burglary gang[/caption]

He has been on the run since June 26 after escaping from the Springhill Open Prison, Buckinghamshire, on June 23.

Harty is regarded as one of the UK’s most notorious burglars.

One source said: “This is a great result and shows the importance of international cooperation.

“He somehow managed to make it back to Ireland but is now facing a longer sentence.”

Two other fugitives – who were part of the same “sophisticated” burglary gang – remain at large.

Jason MacDonagh, 34 and Barney Casey, 24, also escaped from HMP Springhill.

All three were serving sentences for their roles in a crime spree in which they stole £300,000 worth of jewellery and cash from homes across the UK in 2023.

Harty received a 12-year sentence for his role in the burglaries.

He has now been remanded in custody and faces a special court sitting as authorities in the UK apply to extradite him.

Following his escape, cops in the UK also confirmed that he had connections to Ireland.

CRIMEWAVE

During their crimewave, the trio targeted 54 homes and were caught in CCTV ransacking homes.

Their spree came to an end after cops connected a car, owned by MacDonagh, and phone records to the burglaries.

A fourth member of the gang, Darren O’Halloran, 38 and of no fixed abode, was also arrested and jailed in connection with the robberies.

The escaped lags are known to frequent Bristol, West Midlands, Leicestershire, Leeds, Bradford, Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland.

DO NOT APPROACH

The Irish Sun previously reported how cops had warned the public not to approach the group but to report sightings or any information that could lead to their recapture to them.

Police staff investigator Claire Busby said: “We are appealing to the public for any information around MacDonagh, Casey and Harty’s whereabouts, or anyone who may see them to get in touch.

“We would advise members of the public not to approach them, but call 999 instead.

“If you have any information as to where they may be, you can call 101 or make a report online, quoting 43250312586.

“Alternatively, if you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact the independent charity, Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.”

‘You do you’, says Ireland AM star Muireann O’Connell as fans left divided over controversial home design choice

IRELAND AM star Muireann O’Connell has left fans divided after revealing one of her new home design preferences.

The Limerick native and her fiancé, who she got engaged to back in 2021, were on the hunt to buy a house for four years.

However, the search for her forever home wasn’t easy and Muireann has previously recalled people crying at viewings.

After a long struggle, the popular presenter finally secured a set of keys to her very own house in May.

And just last week, the couple waved goodbye to the Harold’s Cross cottage they’d been renting since 2017, as they officially moved into their new place.

With the moving boxes unpacked, Muireann has now turned her focus to decorating – but one particular design dilemma has caused some backlash from her followers.

Taking to her Instagram stories yesterday, she shared that she and her partner, Philip, were unsure where to put their television.

She posted a snap of the TV awkwardly wedged in the corner of the room, admitting it wasn’t quite working.

Explaining the struggle, she said: “Now we need to figure out what in the awkward space to do with our telly. I know the answer is smaller telly. I love my big telly.”

The Virgin Media star then revealed that some followers had been pushing the idea of placing it above the fireplace – but Muireann wasn’t a fan of this.

She added: “I know you’re gonna say above the fireplace, and lads, a telly above the fireplace gives me the ick.”

In a follow-up post shared to her page today, Muireann addressed the strong reactions, joking that she may have offended people by saying she didn’t like the look.

She said: “Hey I fear I’ve offended some people because of something I don’t like in house design and it is this.”

She then joked: “It gives me the ick but some people on stories it feels like I’ve taken their granny outside, punched her in the face and then drowned their kitten.

“If you like this, that is fantastic. What the hell do I know? Also I just can’t be staring up that way. I’m too old. My neck doesn’t go that way.”

Muireann also said that many people had messaged suggesting “those TVs that have frames and they look like a piece of art” – but that didn’t sway her opinion either.

MUIR’S MOVE

She said: “No. Again, I just don’t want to look up that way. But again, if you like this, that’s fabulous.

“What the hell do I know about house design? I’m sure everything in this house is going to be icky to most people. So I am very sorry. If you like this, you do you.”

Fans and friends all flocked to the comment section to share their thoughts.

Ella wrote: “100 per cent with you on this! Has to be a mirror over the fireplace for me! My other ick is full blast lights on in a living or dining room!”

Ken said: “You’re right, both are key points of focus, and deserve space in their own right.”

Another added: “Totally agree with you Muireann. My neck wouldn’t be able to handle it.”

Love Island couple Molly Marsh and Zachariah Noble split two years after finishing fourth in the villa

LOVE Island’s Zachariah Noble and Molly Marsh have split up after two years together.

The couple finished fourth in the 2023 series and had a number of ups and downs since leaving the villa.

She confirmed the split with an Instagram statement[/caption]

Today, Molly confirmed the split on Instagram, after rumours had swirled that the pair had gone their separate ways.

She wrote: “I just want to confirm the rumours. Myself and Zac have split up and are no longer together.

“We have parted ways as friends and thank you all for your love and support of our relationship over the past 2 years. Molly.”

A source close to Molly and Zac said: “Nothing bad has happened between Zac and Molly. They just made the decision to split on a mutual basis.

“The pair have no bad blood between them and will continue to be friends.

“Sometimes relationships work, and sometimes they don’t but they want to continue to be friends and cherish the couple of years they have spent together and are both grateful for Love Island bringing them into each others lives.”

Zac is yet to post on the split but has shared a video clip of him working out on which he wrote that he was “locked the f**k in”.

Molly and Zach met on series 10 Love Island in 2023.

The pair both entered the villa on day one – but weren’t originally with each other.

Molly was coupled up with Mitch Taylor, while Zach was paired with Catherine Agbaje.

They soon realised that they were attracted to each other and things were going well until Kady McDermott entered the villa as a bombshell.

The Love Island legend picked Zach in a recoupling ceremony, which meant that Molly was sent home in a shock twist.

However Molly returned as part of Casa Amor – and the couple couldn’t ignore their feelings.

Molly and Zach ended up placing fourth on the series.

After trying to navigate life outside of the villa, and long distance, the pair went their separate ways after seven months together.

They soon reunited and in August last year they took their relationship to the next level and bought a house together.

Molly captioned the post: “Well this happened,” with the hashtag “incompatible”, as she took a swipe at ex-Islanders who said the pair were not well suited.

They also owned a puppy together.

In October, Molly opened up about their split for the first time.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Molly said: “It’s great at the moment, we absolutely [needed that time apart], we’re stronger than ever and after moving in together, things are definitely going in the right direction.

“It’s what we needed, it’s going really well.”

When asked if all their issues have been ironed out, Molly shared: “Yes, it’s all good, we’re very happy now.”

Jennifer was taking part in a new strength campaign with fitness brand Pvolve and she looked stunning as she posed for the camera.

The Hollywood star looked remarkable as she handled Pvolve’s fitness equipment to promote the Pvolve workout, designed by women for women.

The actress has starred in a string of Hollywood movies since playing Rachel Green in the hit Nineties sitcom, which she calls the “biggest gift” of her life.

When asked recently what her favourite job has been during her glittering career, Jennifer said: “Obviously Friends — that’s a no-brainer.

“I would have to say that is number one.

“Every single day I miss the schedule of filming . . . it’s the best schedule ever on the planet.”

Pvolve has teamed up with Jennifer for its mission to educate women on the importance of resistance training for building strength in both body and mind at every stage of life.

Jennifer herself came up with the concept for the campaign which was shot by celebrity photographer Zoey Grossman.

She wanted to remind people that no matter their age or fitness level, everyone has the potential to feel stronger than ever.

She said: “Moving my body has always been important to me, and as we now know from the data, strength training is of the utmost importance to staying healthy and active as we age.

After training with Pvolve for almost four years, I’ve learned there’s so much we can do to counteract the natural changes our bodies experience.

“And with the Pvolve Method, we can become stronger than ever.”

The Pvolve Method focuses on functional fitness, which means that it moves through all three planes of motion – side-to-side, front-to-back, and rotational.

Julie Cartwright, President of Pvolve, said: “Our method is designed to address the unique needs of women, who often face hormonal changes and life transitions that require special consideration in fitness, with an emphasis on building lasting strength.

“Historically, many workouts have been built around men?s physiology, with women expected to adapt.

“So, we decided to take a different approach, though the workout is equally effective for men.

Pvolve has physical studio locations in New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, franchises across the US and Canada, and more than 40 locations in development,

J-Lo takes savage swipe at ex Ben Affleck as she debuts brutal new song about ‘broken’ actor

J-Lo, 55, also appears to accuse him of having “broken parts” in a song called Wreckage of You.

J-Lo debuted the song when she kicked off her Up All Night European tour in Spain[/caption]

Kicking off her European Up All Night Tour in Pontevedra, Spain, earlier this week, J-Lo told fans: “This is a new song that I want to sing for the first time that came to me when I was up all night, one night.”

Performing the piano ballad live, J-Lo belted out: “Thank you for the scars you left on my heart.

“I won’t fall apart because of who you are and all your broken parts.”

She later sings: “Now watch me climb out of the wreckage of you.”

The lyrics echo words she told her 17-year-old twins Max and Emme, her children from her earlier marriage to singer Marc Anthony.

Following her split from Ben, J-Lo told El Pais magazine that she had told the twins: “I said, ‘I promise you, this is a difficult time, but you’re going to see that I’ll come out the other side stronger and better.’

“I promised them that and I did it.

“They feel it now. That gives me a great sense of peace in my life.”

It is also not the first time she has written about Ben.

Her 2024 album This Is Me . . . Now was all about rekindling her love with Ben.

It was seen as a sequel to her 2002 album This Is Me . . . Then, which was all about falling for actor Ben the first time.

J-Lo and Ben first started dating in 2002 and became engaged.

But they postponed their wedding in 2003 and split the following year.

They rekindled their romance in 2021 and finally tied the knot at a surprise Las Vegas wedding in 2022.

But they split again last year, with their divorce finalised in January this year

Wreckage of You lyrics

Thank you for the scars you
left on my heart

Was showing me that stars
shine brighter in the dark

I won’t fall apart because
of who we are

But your broken parts

Because of you, I am
stronger, wiser

Better than I’ve ever been
I won’t let you no longer, longer

Ever say goodbye to me

It was perfect the while that
you made me believe

Really got only greater for me

And it made me stronger, stronger, bulletproof

Now watch me climb out of the wreckage of you

Good Morning Britain to make controversial change to show following ITV daytime TV cuts as insiders slam decision

An image collage containing 1 images, Image 1 shows Good Morning Britain logo

GOOD Morning Britain is closing its US office entirely as part of ITV’s cuts to Daytime.

It means for the first time in the show’s 11-year history, the flagship breakfast show will have no dedicated team across the pond to cover news, Stateside.

The outfit is fronted by Noel Phillips, who reports out of New York, but GMB will now likely utilise reports from the main ITN news hub instead.

A source dubbed the move “a brazen pivot away from journalism.”

They added: “They have completely axed their American operation, with the intensity of the news cycle in the US as it is – especially now, with a president who is making headlines daily.

“How does that make any sense?

These cuts are a disaster in the making. The way they have gone about all of this is messy and it is devastating for us all.

“Why are they trying to reinvent the ‘news’ instead of finding better ways to reach audiences? It is a shame they are being so shortsighted and are losing genuine, good quality people.

“These cuts are a brazen pivot away from journalism.”

An ITV spokeswoman said: “ITV is currently in consultation over proposed changes and no final decisions have been made on redundancies.

“ITV News has a significant presence across North America and its award winning bureau will continue to provide GMB Viewers with trusted international news.”

It comes as ITV streamlines its daytime output, with 220 jobs to be lost across GMB, Lorraine, Loose Women and This Morning.

The changes are part of ITV’s efforts to save money and reinvest in other programming areas.

As part of the restructure, Lorraine will be reduced to a 30-minute show whilst Good Morning Britain will be extended by 30 minutes.

Lorraine and Loose Women will air for only 30 weeks a year.

The cuts are expected to save ITV up to £50 million.
