All lanes have been affected.
And traffic bosses posted an update on social media warning that the “road remains closed” following the incident.
Posting on X, they said: “Incident Update: M7 Westbound, between J22 Roscrea and J23 Moneygall.
“Road remains closed. Diversion in place via Old Roscrea Road.”
Drivers were told that “significant delays” to their journey will likely occur and that they should consider a different route.
Elsewhere in the country, road users have been warned of delays on a busy motorway.
The M1 is a continuation of the busy M50 motorway and connects parts of Dublin city centre to areas further afield.
This morning, the thousands of commuters who use the road ever day have been urged caution following a multi-vehicle collision.
Traffic bosses reported the crash between Junction 5 Balbriggan (South) and Junction4 Donabate (8 kilometres south of the Stamullen area).
They said: “Delays to your journey will occur. Consider a different journey route or start time.
“When approaching the collision location, drive with caution, reduce your speed and obey instructions from emergency services.”
And on the M50 southbound is facing major delays this morning following an incident between Junction 4 Ballymun and Junction 6 M50/N3, Dublin.
But the incident has now been cleared, but drivers may still see some delays.
Traffic bosses also posted a congestion report on social media warning of some major delays on Irish roads.
Posting on X, they said: “Congestion Report: M50 Northbound: J7 – J6. M50 Southbound: J9 – J13.
“Delays on routes around Dublin: M1 (S) J7 – J4, N3 (E) J3 – J2 N4 (E) J2 – J1, N7 (E) J2 – J1a.
“Delay on routes around Cork: N40 (E) Jack Lynch Tunnel N28 Carrs Hill.”
RAIL DELAYS
And Irish Rail passengers are also facing disruptions this morning.
The issue arose following a temporary speed limit which is in place due to “engineering works” between Portarlington and Monasterevin.
Posting on X, they said: “Delays are expected on services arriving in Heuston this morning.
“6/8 minutes delays currently between Portarlington and Monasterevin.
“A temporary speed limit is in place due to engineering works in the area. Update to follow.”
In another update on social media, Irish Rail bosses said that a temporary limit is in place near Athy.
As a result of this, delays are expected on some routes heading to Heuston this morning.
They added: Update: 05:25am Galway to Heuston +8 minutes delayed.
“05:25am Limerick to Heuston +4 delayed. 5:55am Waterford to Heuston +6 delayed. 06:30 Carlow to Heuston +7 delayed.
“A temporary speed limit is in place near Athy. Earlier, a vehicle struck a bridge in the area. Services are moving on all routes.”

AXED Love Island contestant Megan Forte Clarke has revealed that show bosses refuse to tell them very basic information during filming.
Megan was dumped from the Island shortly after she found herself in a couple with Conor.
YouTube/Not My BaggMegan Forte Clarke has confessed Islanders aren’t told basic info during their villa stay[/caption]
YouTube/Not My BaggShe spoke out on Not My Bagg[/caption]
The pair realised they had a budding spark despite the fact she had grown very close to Tommy.
However, their romance in the villa was short-lived as she was soon dumped after being voted one of the least popular girls.
But since leaving Majorca, Megan has been spilling all on the many things that fans don’t see of what goes on behind the scenes.
In a new interview with Joe Baggs on his Not My Bagg podcast, she even revealed that Islanders are restricted from knowing certain basic information.
Bizarrely, Megan claims that the contestants are unable to know the temperature during their time on the show and are never informed by producers about how hot it is.
Speaking to Joe about filming in the heat, Megan said: “Well, we weren’t allowed to know the actual degrees.
“We knew nothing!”
In shock, Joe reacted: “What a strange bit of information to with hold!”
Megan said back: “But I can tell you that I was dripping in sweat.
“It was really un-sexy when we were trying to flirt with everyone.”
Many fans of Love Island have taken to social media as they claimed there may have been a clique within the Majorca villa.
On a thread titled ‘The Mean Girls trio – Meg, Megan and Helena’ on social media fan forum site Reddit, fans fumed that Meg, Megan and Helena were being respectful to the rest of the girls.
One viewer claimed: “I’m really not liking the bully-ish vibes coming from the cliquey trio of Meg, Megan, and Helena.

“They tried it with Shakira at the start, but she knew how to handle them.”
Addressing the claims with ITV’s The Rundown, Megan, insisted that the divide on-screen was not the same in real life.
Podcast host Daniel Ajose suggested that it seemed that “friendship groups were constantly beating each other.
Megan admitted: “Do you know what? Being in there, it doesn’t feel like that whatsoever.
“Of course, like, the girls have the ones they’d naturally gravitate towards, like, you’re just naturally close to people.
“It’s like school, everyone’s not like sisters holding hands. But that being said, in there doesn’t feel like that whatsoever.”

A WOMAN who starred in the BBC show Escape to the Country tragically died while undergoing a procedure in hospital, an inquest has heard.
Emma Izzard, 53, was rushed to hospital on November 19 last year – after she had started to vomit blood – and died the following day after going into cardiac arrest while undergoing a gastroscopy.
FacebookEmma Izzard, 53, suffered from alcoholism before her tragic death last year, an inquest has heard[/caption]
BBCShe appeared on a 2021 episode of Escape to the Country with her partner at the time Kym Lofthouse[/caption]
The star had previously appeared on an episode of the iconic BBC show in 2021 with her partner at the time Kym Lofthouse in the hopes of the pair finding a “new perfect life”.
An inquest into her death – held at Norfolk Coroner’s Court this week – also heard how the 53-year-old died after struggling with alcoholism.
Emma and Kym lived together in Luton, Bedfordshire, and were hoping to start a dream life in Norfolk when they signed up to the show.
Aided by Escape to the Country host Ginny Buckley, the pair set out to try to find their perfect home, having picked Norfolk for its “clean air” and “slower place of life”.
Eventually, they moved to North Walsham in the county and despite later parting ways, the pair remained friends.
At the inquest into Emma’s death this week, Kym told the hearing how her former partner’s alcohol consumption rose in July 2022 after her mum fell ill.
The Eastern Daily Press reported that Kim also told the inquest Emma was fearful she was going to lose her mum.
She added: “After six months of secret drinking, she wanted to stop but couldn’t get the help required quickly enough and began drinking again.”
Despite undergoing several stints in rehab, relapses caused her drinking “to become heavier”.
Kym continued: “Emma did not want to drink but it had taken a strong hold of her.”
Emma was rushed to Norfolk and Norwich Hospital by ambulance on November 19, 2024, after she had begun to vomit blood.
Tragically, Emma died after going into cardiac arrest while undergoing a gastroscopy in the operating theatre.
At the inquest, her cause of death was given as an oesophageal and variceal bleed, with alcohol-related liver disease.
The hearing was also told that Emma’s dad – who died when she was just a teenager – had struggled with alcoholism himself.
Coroner Johanna Thompson concluded that Emma’s death was alcohol related.
She said the 53-year-old had a “history of excess alcohol consumption”, adding she had been suffering from alcohol-related liver disease.
The coroner said Emma presented with symptoms of acute alcohol withdrawl at the hospital, stating that the treatment undertaken sadly could not have saved her life.

THE Premier League have refused to budge when asked if they could change Chelsea’s opening fixture amid concerns around the Blues’ Club World Cup workload.
Chelsea have reached the final of Fifa’s new-look club tournament in the USA, meaning they will play their final stateside game this Sunday – just 34 days before their opening Prem clash.

GettyThe Blues have reached the final of Fifa’s revamped tournament, where they will play PSG on Sunday[/caption]
Chelsea take on Crystal Palace on Sunday August 17 to open their domestic campaign, meaning they have just over a month to allow their players a break and to return for pre-season preparations.
The hectic schedule, in part caused by the extended Club World Cup, has been heavily criticised and Chelsea have asked for the Premier League to lend them a helping hand, according to The Mirror.
It’s claimed that the league’s chief football officer, Tony Scholes, has insisted that they won’t be giving any special treatment to Chelsea or Man City – who also participated in the Club World Cup before their last 16 exit to Al-Hilal last week.
The Premier League chose not to comment when approached by SunSport.
However, SunSport understands that the league feel that the issues of fixture congestion are an example of the challenges faced by domestic leagues as a result of Fifa expanding their calendar.
There’s growing feeling that the issues are being thrown on domestic leagues when there has been no change to the number of fixtures played in the league season.
While domestic cup competitions, such as the FA Cup, have even seen a reduced number of games in recent campaigns following the decision to scrap replays.
It has been confirmed that Chelsea’s opening fixture against Palace will remain on August 17.

Spanish giants Real Madrid, who exited the Club World Cup to PSG in the semi-finals, have also requested to have their opening La Liga fixture moved.
Los Blancos are due to play Osasuna on August 19 and The Athletic claim club officials sent letters to La Liga to request a postponement.
However, reports have since suggested that La Liga have rejected those requests and the fixture is scheduled to go ahead as planned.
Managers at the Club World Cup have been vocal with their concern for what impact the congested fixture list may have on their teams next season.
City boss Pep Guardiola said: “I try not to think about it, otherwise I will be so anxious.
“Maybe in November, December, January, ask me, Pep. I may say: ‘So listen, we are a disaster. We are exhausted. The World Cup destroyed us.’ We will see.”
Chelsea are in line to earn a whopping £97MILLION in prize money should they win Sunday’s final against PSG.

Best used cars 2025: from low-cost convertibles to durable family saloons
Here, our experts have selected three of the best-value used cars in 2025.
Dacia Sandero
This 2014 Dacia Sandero is currently for sale at £4,296
The Dacia Sandero is Europe’s best-selling car, with over 8 million on the road. More cars produced means more for sale – and that means bargains can be had.
The Sandero is a small car designed and built by parent company Renault using tried and tested components.
Despite being one of the cheapest new cars on the market, the Sandero is more reliable than a comparatively priced Ford or Mazda, says Whatcar?.
You can pick up a low-mileage Dacia Sandero for less than £5,000 on Sun Motors. That represents incredible value for anybody’s money.
SEAT Leon
This 2015 SEAT Leon cashes in at £4,495 on Sun Motors
The Mazda MX-5 remains today what it’s always been: a stylish, sporty and affordable convertible car.
The MX-5 is still winning prizes, with the 2023 model named best value sportscar at the 2023 What Car? Awards.
Older models are just as reliable and fun, but as with any convertible, ensure you test the roof mechanism before buying, as it can be expensive to repair or replace.
It’s not exactly cheap, but £10,000 will get you a 4-year old Mazda MX-5 with the powerful 1.5l petrol engine pushing out 130 bhp. Older models can still come in at under £5K if you shop around.

Best used cars of 2024
Here are the top five best used cars under five grand in 2024:
Toyota Auris Hybrid
Honda CR-V
Mini Convertible
Skoda Octavia
Audi TT
The best-used car deals of 2024 are a mixed bag, with small city cars like the Toyota Auris rubbing shoulders with family classics like the Skoda Octavia and sport favourite the Audi TT.
You’ll notice that all these cars are established models, with cars like the Mini on sale since 2000 and the Audi TT since 1998. This matters because manufacturers will have ironed out any problems with the early models.
Old doesn’t mean ugly. We reckon the Mini, Audi TT and Honda CR-V are all as stylish today as they were when they were launched.
OK, while the family favourite Skoda Octavia won’t win any fashion awards, it won’t look out of place at the supermarket or school gates.
Running costs, too, are an issue as prices at the pump continue to rise.
As well as impressive fuel economy, essentials like road tax, servicing and spares for popular cars like the Mini and Honda CR-V won’t break the bank, either.
Mini Convertible
This Mini Convertible is currently on sale for £2,496
The Octavia is a real Swiss Army Knife of a motor, an ideal all-rounder, it combines a spacious interior with a “gutsy” engine and miserly fuel economy – making it an ideal family car.
It’s also based on the same platform as the beloved VW Golf, while adding a little bit more room in the back seats and boot.
The model also matches the price of the Mini, with 2004-13 models starting at £1,500 even though it’s a fair bit larger.
Audi TT
This Audi TT is a visual representation of the timelessness of the model – it is currently for sale for £3,750
Ideal for the kind of person who’s after a champagne lifestyle on limited funds, with models from between 2006 and 2014 starting at £2,500 the TT offers a top-notch sports car package at a bargain rate.
The car, named for the Isle of Man TT race, was discontinued last year so grab one while you can before the prices go up.
Honda is famed for the reliability of its SUVs in particular.
Building on the legacy of the legendary Land Cruiser, the CR-V provides a lot of space for very little cost as well as four-wheel drive.
The rear seats can even slide down to add extra boot space, making it a perfect choice for pet owners.
And with 2006-12 examples starting from as little as £3,500 it’s a great bang for buck offering.
Benefits of buying a used car
Here are the five reasons why you could be better off buying a used car:
Lower price = better value: When you buy a used car, you can push your pounds as far as you can, getting better value than buying a new car. You can find models with bigger engines, sporty trims and better specifications.
Cheaper insurance: You’ll typically pay less to insure a used car compared to a new one.cheaper to insure. The exact premium you pay will depend on you, your location and details of any points on your license or previous accidents, but it should be lower.
Reliability: Older cars that have been cared for can be as reliable as new ones. When buying, check out service history and previous MOTs to understand how the car has been cared for.
Lower depreciation: A new car will lose up to 40% of its value in the first year, warns the AA. A used car won’t. In fact, take care of your used car and you can achieve a high return when you come to sell it.
Dealmaking potential: New car dealers don’t like to haggle anymore, but in the used car market there are still deals to be done. You’re often in the strongest position if you’re a cash buyer.
Benefits of buying a car outright vs financing
Here are some of the reasons why it can be better to buy a cheaper used vehicle outright than using finance to buy a new model:
Cash means control: It’s easy to get carried away with financing deals and end up spending more than you planned. When you buy a car with cash or cleared funds, you’re less likely to blow the budget.
No monthly payments: We can’t predict the future, but if you’ve got a finance agreement, you make your monthly payments, whatever happens in your life. Buying a car outright can give you control and confidence in your personal finances.
Freedom to change: When you own your car outright, you can sell it whenever you want. If you and your family need something bigger, smaller, faster or slower, you can sell your current car and buy a new one without any penalties or problems.
Some people worry they’ll be left on their own if a vehicle develops a fault. Before you start your search, learn some of the essential tips when buying a used car.
The good news is that when you buy a used car you’re covered by the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which gives you some protection if the car develops a fault.
