Love Island fans work out ‘real reason’ Dejon stuck with Meg after flirty connection with Casa Amor girl

LOVE Island fans are convinced they know the “real reason” Dejon stuck with Meg – despite his flirty connection with Andrada.

Meg, 25, has been coupled up with Dejon, 26, since the start of the series, but fans have questioned whether they are playing a game.

During Casa Amor, Dejon grew close to Andrada and admitted there was a “big spark” between them.

But on last night’s recoupling, Dejon returned alone, while Ben decided to recouple with nail technician Andrada, 27.

Meg was delighted that Dejon’s head wasn’t turned and he had been loyal to her.

But viewers have claimed the real reason Dejon returned alone was because Ben had already picked to couple up with Andrada.

This meant Dejon had no other choice but to return to Meg.

One wrote: “He had to go running back to Meg because Ben probably picked Andrada before Dejon.”

A second wrote: “Dejon has no choice but to go back to Meg, it’s the easiest option because Ben’s already got Andrada.”

A third commented: “Andrada being back in the villa just to cause drama for Meg and Dejon, Ben this may be the only right thing you did this season.”

While other fans said Dejon got the best of both worlds – as he was able to return alone and appear loyal, but he can also continue to get to know Andrada after she made it into the main villa.

“Ben brought back Dejon’s mistress… Meg is not going to rest,” a fourth said.

Another said: “Ben bringing back Andrada. Here we go because surely she’s gonna have a little chat with Meg about Dejon…”

Last night, Meg and Dejon decide whether or not they wanted to stick with each other or twist and get smitten with a new singleton.

Meg said to host Maya Jama: “As much as he says I’m his Meg, I hope he’s my D,” as she stood there single and faithful.

Waiting for him to come back, Meg looked nervous as Dejon emerged.

Appearing alone, Meg was relieved – but it soon kicked off when his Casa connection was unveiled.

Andrada said she enjoyed getting to know the boys.

Maya then cheekily asked who, to which she said Dejon, leaving Meg fuming.

“I f**king knew it,” Meg exclaimed, looking angry.

Andrada then explained she and Dejon had been getting to know one another “a little bit”.

Meg was seething by the revelation and snapped, asking Andrada: “What does a little bit mean?”

Andrada said it was nothing disrespectful, “just one on one chats”.

Dejon flirted up a storm with Andrada during his time in Casa.

He told Andrada that she was his “favourite bombshell”.

He also alluded to how he wants to take her back to the main villa so they can continue to get to know one another.

‘Miracle’ high street eye cream finally banished my dark circles – but shock effect means I’ll never use it again

An image collage containing 2 images, Image 1 shows Woman with blond hair wearing a white t-shirt, Image 2 shows Woman wearing a white t-shirt against a purple background

THEY say the eyes are the window to our soul, but it has always been my belief that what lurks beneath them has a far more interesting story to tell.

Despite being a good sleeper, my 48-year-old eyes have been propped up by huge, dark bags that look like they were stolen from Gollum – the bleary-eyed character from Lord of the Rings movies – since I was a child.

Rachel Reeves’ puffy peepers, which drew cruel comments online after the Chancellor was pictured crying in the Commons, have nothing on mine.

So when I heard about L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Laser Eye Bag Instant Eraser Eye Cream, which promises to be the beauty fix I have spent a lifetime looking for – I was almost clammy with anticipation. Or was that just the perimenopause?

I am ashamed to admit that my search for the best eye bag fixes has cost me an amount I am not brave enough to tot up. But according to beauty brand Olay, nearly 80 per cent of women suffer from eye bags and puffiness at some point in their lives, so I know I’m not alone.

Under-eye creams, concealers and brighteners do not come cheap, so at under £30 L’Oréal’s new wonder product sounded too good to be true.

Despite never suffering from acne or an uneven skin tone as a teenager, my dark eyes meant that even at secondary school I was never able to leave the house fresh-faced and makeup-free.

My toxic twenties did nothing to help – burning the candle at both ends with long working days and big nights out made the problem worse.

I didn’t know it at the time, and sadly I do not have a clock I can turn back, but alcohol consumption on those boozy evenings out will only have worsened the appearance of my under-eye luggage.

Booze, including my tipple of choice, red wine, dehydrates the body, causing the delicate skin around the eyes to become prone to sagging and making under-eye bags appear more prominent and darker.

A heavy drinking session can also lead to fluid retention, contributing to yet more puffiness around the eyes.

By the time I got married, aged 30, I was ready to settle down – unlike my eye bags, which refused to flatten.

In preparation for my wedding day, I handed the problem over to a professional, but the first make-up artist I trialled opted for a traditional peachy palette that included smothering my eyelids in beige eyeshadow.

The ghoulish colour perfectly matched the dark circles under my eyes and when I left the salon and bumped into an old friend, she approached me with concern and asked if I was ill.

Add a few years of juggling two very energetic boys, now aged 15 and 13, and cramming school runs in between running my own press agency, and by the time I was blowing out 40th birthday candles I was facing a new problem: wrinkles.

The thick concealers from MAC and NARS that had previously offered enough coverage to hide the darkness now clung to my under eyes like it had been trowelled on by a builder’s apprentice and resembled pockets of plaster.

L'Oreal
The cream says it tightens and smooths under-eye skin for up to eight hours[/caption]

I’m ashamed to admit I even once got sucked into such impressive before and after eye bag photos on a box of eye cream I splurged £200 on a single pot no larger than a thimble.

It made absolutely no difference to my panda pallor, but was way over the £25 I would normally fork out on beauty products.

In 2018 I even came close to investing in tear trough dermal fillers, a reportedly painful surgical procedure which involves having hyaluronic acid injected into the area beneath your lower eyelid and upper cheek.

The gel-like substance reduces the depth of the tear trough making the skin fuller and tighter, reducing the shadows for up to a year and draining the family budget by up to a whacking £800.

But with hypochondria to rival Madagascar’s Melman the giraffe, I realised I would never be brave enough to let someone that close to my eyeballs with a needle.

So when I was asked to try L’Oreal Paris Revitalift Laser Eye Bag Instant Eraser Eye Cream, I dared to hope this was the answer I had been looking for.

The promise that a single cream could lift me from a lifetime of darkness was so exciting, not least because, at under £30, it was one of the most cost-effective options I had heard of.

L’Oréal claim the results would be dramatic, tackling eye bags, puffiness and wrinkles by tightening and smoothing for up to eight hours.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer speaking in the House of Commons, with Rachel Reeves crying.
PA
Rachel Reeves’ puffy peepers, which drew cruel comments online after the Chancellor was pictured crying in the Commons, have nothing on mine[/caption]

According to their trials, 94 per cent of testers said their under eyes were smoother after using it. 95 per cent said their eye bags were visibly reduced.

Applying the cream was easy, as all that had to be done was gently dab a pea-sized amount under my eyes with a finger and wait for it to set. I did this makeup-free, but the instructions say it can also be applied over makeup.

A cross between a cream and gel, it was easy to dab in place. The hardest part was remaining expressionless for 15 minutes, as per the instructions, until it was time to look in the mirror.

At this point, I was immediately pleased to see that my under eye area looked slightly fuller and, as a result, it did visibly improve the appearance of shadows.

However, despite claiming to be ‘ultra comfortable’, when the product had fully dried I was left with the feeling I had put on an eye mask and forgotten to peel it off.

This tight, unrelaxing sensation remained for the eight hours the product promises to work for.

I can certainly say there was an improvement to the dark shadows.

But the minute I cracked a smile, the lines were back – appearing even deeper, meaning this product aged my under eyes by at least five years.

There was radio silence from my husband and kids on my ‘transformation’, but my mum did say I ‘looked well’ when she saw me a couple of hours after application.Perhaps on younger skin it would achieve better results.

But staring down the barrel of 50, the gel-to-tape technology laser ‘eraser’ sadly did not quite manage to transform me from Gollum to gorgeous.

Paddleboarder, 48, found dead after vanishing while on pond during camp trip as cops launch hunt for ‘killer’

A PADDLEBOARDER who mysteriously vanished during a camping trip has been found dead.

Sunshine “Sunny” Stewart’s body was found just hours after she went out onto the water in Maine.

She has been described as someone who lived a ‘quiet’ life[/caption]

The 48-year-old had been on a camping trip in Union – around 80 miles northeast of Portland – and was seen going into the water on July 2.

Stewart, an avid paddleboarder, is believed to have gone out on the town’s Crawford Pond between 6pm and 9pm.

The pond has a maximum depth of 57 feet and is home to various fish species, including brown trout, smallmouth bass, and the American eel.

Stewart, who lives around 20 miles from the pond, was reported missing, sparking a frantic search.

Stewart’s body was found in the early hours of July 3 by game wardens and investigators ruled it was unlikely she had drowned.

They ruled out drowning, as well as suicide, because of the state of her body.

It’s not known if her body was found on water or had been dumped on land.

Investigators believed Stewart, a former marine biologist and an experienced paddleboarder, was murdered.

Stewart’s death has since been ruled a homicide, but Maine cops have not shared any details as to how she was killed.

Cops have said they will investigate every possible lead in a bid to resolve the mystery.

Investigators have appealed for any security footage at the time Stewart disappeared.

Her death has left locals and friends traumatized.

Devastated pal, Meredith Smith, said people who knew Stewart were in awe of her.

TRIBUTES POUR IN

“Rest easy my beautiful friend,” Chris Dee wrote on Facebook.

Stacey Yendell noted how Stewart had an “unstoppable” spirit.

“Sunny was a force of nature…fierce, bold and unapologetically alive,” she told the CBS affiliate WABI-TV.

Kim Ware, Stewart’s sister, said she was the “strongest person” that she knew.

“Now we have to rally and give her justice,” she warned.

Ware described Stewart as the “light in our lives” in a heartbreaking tribute shared on GoFundMe.

Meanwhile, Stewart’s cousin said she lived a “quiet life” as they couldn’t comprehend what had happened on the pond.

“Sunny was independent and did many things on her own,” they wrote on Reddit.

“She lived a quiet, peaceful life with a great respect for nature and the simple things. She did not deserve this.”

Cops have primarily focused their investigation on the Mic Mac Cove Family Campground in the town.

I’m a masseuse & many of my clients have BBLs – the disgusting truth will make you think twice about getting one

A MASSEUSE has shared the grim reality of getting a Brazilian Butt Lift.

Neiden, from the UK, took to social media to share her experience as she had many clients with BBLs needing massages.

She was left horrified by what she saw[/caption]

The woman had worked with numerous people who had the procedure done, and most of them dealt with negative consequences.

She said: “To start off, what I’ve seen are gaping wound holes.
Speaker 1: gaping wound holes like they’re open.

“Why would you call me to come and give you a massage while the holes are gaping and they’re open?”

Neiden said that often the wounds aren’t even dressed in bandages and that when she is massaging the area, air comes gushing out of the holes.

The masseuse said that many of her clients with a BBL end up in constant pain and are unable to walk properly because of it.

“It’s just agonising pain,” she added. “Not being able to walk, not being able to sit, not being able to lie down.”

Another grim reality was that many people were unable to clean their bum properly because of the procedure.

“It’s a breeding ground for infection,” she claimed.

Naiden said these were just some of the side effects, and that wasn’t even the worst of it.

She said other clients have told her they needed blood transfusions and needed to be resuscitated all for a ‘big bum.’

The biggest shock for Naiden was that many of these women had kids at home and were risking their lives for their looks.

She added: “I know the streets are hard but you don’t need the big bum to survive.”

The clip has since gone viral on her TikTok account @neidenefitness with over 490k views and 38k likes.

People were quick to share their thoughts in the comments.

One person wrote: “Having a BBL sounds like a disease.”

Another commented: “Whoever I know who has had a BBL have all said the same it’s so scary.”

What are Brazilian Butt Lifts and why are they so popular?

Buttock enlargement surgery – known as a Brazilian butt-lift (BBL) – is used to make the bum look bigger, rounded and lifted.

Surgeons transfer fat, inject filler or insert silicone-filled implants.

It is the fastest growing cosmetic procedure but also one of the most dangerous, according to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS).

Many patients are travelling to the likes of Turkey or seeking out unregistered surgeons in the UK and are not given full information on the risks.

BBLs carry the highest risk of all cosmetic surgeries – with more than one death occurring per 4,000 procedures.

Due to celebrities undergoing such ops, many women are hoping to emulate their looks.

Consultant clinical psychologist Dr Anu Sayal-Bennett, a chartered member of the British Psychological Society, told the BBC: “Despite there being so much about body positivity, there are pressures for women – and men too – to look a certain way.”

Many people travel abroad for the procedure because it is cheaper and advertising is “terribly seductive”, combined with the idea of a beach holiday, added Dr Sayal-Bennett.

“I didn’t even get a surgery but I feel traumatised from the stories at this point,” penned a third.

Meanwhile a fourth said: “BBLs are dystopian.”

“BBLs need to stop,” claimed a fifth

Someone else added: “Please listen to her don’t get it. If you get any complications the NHS or even any private health service in the UK will refuse to fix it.”

Second-hand vans: Get your next used van from Sun Motors, with Fords starting from JUST £124 per month

WHITE vans are known as the kings of the road. What’s better than driving high up in a van, carrying a load of tools and gear?

Commercial vehicles can often have a hard life, so a low upfront price could help you more in the long run.

buying-a-used-van

If you’re using the van for your trade or business, breakdowns can cost more than repair costs – they can affect your reputation, too.

When buying a used van, you should forget style and focus on the essentials: reliability, carrying capacity and performance.

It pays to do your research before searching for a used van, which is why the experts at Sun Motors have created this guide.

We’ll provide some tips on what to look for when buying a used van and pick some of our favourites for sale on Sun Motors.

What to look for when buying a used van

This isn’t an exhaustive list, but when buying a used van, here are some of the things you should consider:

  • Mileage
  • Service history
  • External condition
  • Internal condition
  • Previous owners

Find out what you can afford in just 60 seconds here.

Mileage

Commercial vehicles can rack up hundreds of thousands of miles, but be wary of super-high-mileage vehicles.

Service history

Commercial vehicles need more care and attention than passenger vehicles, as the higher mileage and hard nature of their service can put an extra strain on essential components like the engine, brakes, suspension and more.

If you can, buy a van with a complete service history and one supported by an independent assessment of its condition.

External condition

Used vans will naturally take a few bumps and scrapes now and again, but significant damage can tell you a lot about how the van has been treated.

Check panels and doors line up, and check online to see if the van has previously been involved in an accident.

Internal condition

Lots of miles on the road can wear out the internals of any vehicle. Check the seats, steering wheel and gear stick for damage.

These are often great signs of how a van has been used and cared for.

Previous owners

Ask the dealer what the van was used for, and stay away from former hire vehicles or those that have had a hard life.

With all this in mind, it’s time to start looking at some of the best used van bargains for sale today in the UK.

Buying a used vehicle? Find vans for under £200 on Sun Motors here.

Best automatic vans for sale

Who wants to worry about gears when you’re carrying a load of gear? One of our favourite automatic vans is the Mercedez Benz Vito.

buying-a-used-van
This Mercedes-Benz Vito is one of many electric vans available on Sun Motors, which offer sturdiness without a hefty pricetag.

Model: Mercedes-Benz Vito

It’s a similar size to the VW Transporter but without the premium price tag.

You can find used automatic Vito vans for under £10,000. Our favourite is this low-mileage example. With just 6,000 on the clock, it’s barely broken in.

While automatic vans are less popular than manual ones, they’re out there. Some of our other favourites include the Ford Transit and the stylish and quirky Citroen Berlingo.

Best used electric vans for sale

Electric vans are a great option for city-based drivers who want a low-emission alternative to dirty diesel.

buying-a-used-van
This Volkswagen Transporter is a great option for city-based drivers.

Model: Volkswagen Transporter

The VW Transporter e110 is a great option that comes with all the confidence you get from buying one from one of the world’s most respected manufacturers.

We reckon electric vans are best suited to those who live in cities and aren’t carrying huge amounts of tools or trade items, as the extra weight can impact battery performance.

Other great used electric vans include the Renault Master E-Tech, Ford Transit E-Custom and Renault Kangoo E-Tech, says Whatcar.

Best used Ford Transit vans for sale

The Ford Transit is the UK’s most popular van for a reason: it’s brilliant. You can choose from a basic white van for everyday driving to the Electric-powered E-Custom, Transit Connect or tricked-out Transit Custom.

buying-a-used-van
The Ford Transit has a spacious interior, perfect for many trades.

Model: Ford Transit

We’re purists and prefer the classic Ford Transit 350. This 2022 Ford Transit 350 comes fitted with the reliable 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel engine, pushing out an impressive amount of power, while delivering impressive efficiency.

It’s Euro6 compliant, so no worries about ULEZ or other congestion charges.

To be honest, as long as it’s been well cared for and maintained, you can’t go far wrong with any Ford Transit.

Best ULEZ-compliant used vans for sale

ULEZ and other congestion charges are the enemy of commercial traders who worry about getting hit every time they drive in to London (or Bristol, Bath, Birmingham or anywhere else with a clean air zone scheme in place.)

buying-a-used-van
This Peugeot e-Partner is one of many ULEZ-compliant vans available on Sun Motors.

Model: Peugeot e-Partner

All the vans listed here are Euro6 compliant, meaning no charges for driving or parking in the ULEZ zone or any other congestion charging zone.

Our favourite ULEZ-compliant van? All of them! Before buying a used van, you can check whether it’s compliant or not by checking here. (Use this page for all the other UK congestion zones.)

Doing your research before shopping can save you some serious cash. Be aware that regulations can – and probably will – change and that there are no guarantees.

The EU has recently approved the Euro 7 Standard, which will likely come to the UK, too. The reality is that in the future, the only compliant vehicles will probably be EVs.

Best used Ford vans for sale

You may think that the Ford van range begins and ends with the Transit, but it doesn’t. For those who need a smaller van, the Ford Fiesta van is a firm favourite of ours.

Whatcar? loved the driveability, performance and fuel economy of the Fiesta van, and we do too.

It’s a small van that’s perfect for city drivers who need a reliable and convenient van for short trips with small loads.

Best used Renault vans for sale

The Renault Master is an old boy but remains a reliable and affordable workhorse, says car guide Parkers.

buying-a-used-van
The Renault Master is a reliable motor and is also Euro 6 compliant.

Model: Renault Master

At the heart of the recent Renault Masters is a bullet-proof diesel engine that’s Euro 6 compliant (meaning you won’t be charged to drive it in the ULEZ or any of the UK’s other congestion zones).

Despite having a similar carrying capacity to the Mercedez Benz Sprinter, the Renault Master is much cheaper. You can pick up a low-mileage used Renault Master for around £10,0000 (ex VAT) on Sun Motors.

The Renault Master is an ideal van for the cost-conscious buyer who wants a reliable van without worrying about any extras.

It’s pretty basic, but you should get over 200,000 miles out of the engines, says Vehicle Score.

Used van FAQs

Here, we answer some of the common questions buyers have about used vans, including when VAT is charged or not and our favourite used vans for sale.

What does ‘no VAT’ mean when buying a van?

If a van is advertised as ‘no VAT’ that can mean a couple of things. It may mean that no VAT needs to be added to the sale price, which means the sticker price you pay is the total cost.

In other cases, it may mean that VAT needs to be added to the sale price. Vans are often bought by commercial traders who are VAT-registered.

They can claim the additional 20% back in their VAT returns, which means they only really pay the ‘no VAT’ price.

As an example, the total sale price of a ‘no VAT’ van advertised at £10,000 would be £12,000 (£10,000 plus VAT at 20%). The VAT-registered buyer can claim the £2,000 back.

If you’re not a VAT-registered buyer, you’ll need to pay the full £12,000.

What are the best used vans to buy?

Our list above pretty much covers all bases when it comes to buying a used van. The choice depends on what you need a van for, the size, engine, age and a range of other factors.

buying-a-used-van
This Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is a favorite of ours as a trusted van.

Model: Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

Personally, we’re huge fans of tried and tested classics like the Ford Transit or Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.

What is the best large van to buy?

Before we give you our choices, you’ll need to define what a large van is? We’re going to assume you’re talking about the type of van you can drive on a full B-category car licence.

If you qualified after 1997, you can legally drive any van weighing up to 3500kg (3.5 tonnes) gross vehicle weight (GVW). These are often called long wheel-base vans.

So, what’s our choice of large van? Again, if you need a traditional van, we’re huge fans of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.

There are loads of other options, says tradesperson’s bible Professional Builder. They recommend the Vauxhall Movano, Fiat Ducato and Renault Master.

What are the cheapest vans to buy?

When it comes to vans, there are bargains to be had – but you’ll need to do your research.

Instead of the cheapest van, if you’re using it for your living, think about the most reliable.

At the top of the tree you’ll find the Volkswagen Transporter, but more affordable vans like the Ford Transit, Mercedes Vito and Renault Traffic all perform well, says Autoexpress.

Buying a used car? Check out Sun Motors and find your next vehicle today. Whether you’re looking for automatic, manual or electric, use Sun Motors to decide on your next model.

I made £30K last month from my phone, without leaving the house & have no boss – anyone can do it & it’s NOT OnlyFans

A YOUNG woman has claimed that she made £30,000 in just one month without leaving her house.

But that’s not all, as while Elizabeth, 23, had hoped to make an extra £1,000 more a month from her phone before starting her side hustle, she has since cashed in over £145,000 in just seven months – and no, it’s not OnlyFans.

Not only does Elizabeth, 23, not have to leave the house, but she doesn’t have a boss either[/caption]

Not only this, but the savvy content creator revealed that thanks to her side hustle, you’ll no longer have a boss and don’t need any qualifications.

Elizabeth, who previously left school with “barely any GCSEs” after being traumatised by bullies, took to social media to share more about how she generates an income, leaving many totally stunned.

The red-haired beauty, who didn’t go to university or college, acknowledged that seven months ago, she was “broke” and living “paycheck to paycheck.”

Not only did she “hate the 9 to 5”, but she was fed up with “constanting checking” her bank balance and Googling “how to make money online” on her lunch break.

As a result, Elizabeth decided to take matters into her own hands and change her life.

Desperate to earn cash, Elizabeth discovered digital products – any product that is created, distributed, and consumed in an electronic format.

Digital products refer to digital files that buyers can purchase and download instantly, such as printable art, digital planners, e-books, stock photos and more.

Elizabeth “took a chance” and “decided to go all in”, despite not having any “business experience” or “special skills.”

She acknowledged that she had “no idea” what she was doing, just a “deep feeling that there had to be another way” she could earn a living.

And now, Elizabeth is reaping the rewards, as it takes her just 30 minutes to create a digital product on Canva, which she can then sell on countless times for £67.

She said: “When I started, I had no idea what a digital product was, but a digital product is essentially anything that can be downloaded to a device, so an e-book, a guide, a planner, a template, an invitation, anything like that that gets downloaded to a device and sent to your email.

“I made over £30,000 last month from my phone with no experience, as someone as a total beginner.”

I built a simple digital product, created a system that sells it for me, and now my business runs – even when I take the day off

Elizabeth

She also claimed: “In total, over the past seven months, I’ve made over £145,000 – and I still work from home, on my own time, doing something I genuinely love.”

The determined woman then revealed: “I built a simple digital product, created a system that sells it for me, and now my business runs – even when I take the day off.”

Types of digital products

  1. Online courses
  2. Ebooks
  3. Licensed digital content
  4. Premium content libraries
  5. Digital templates and tools
  6. Product photography
  7. Music, art, and entertainment
  8. Digital services
  9. Printable digital products

Do I need to pay tax on my side hustle income?

MANY people feeling strapped for cash are boosting their bank balance with a side hustle.

The good news is, there are plenty of simple ways to earn some additional income – but you need to know the rules.

When you’re employed the company you work for takes the tax from your earnings and pays HMRC so you don’t have to.

But anyone earning extra cash, for example from selling things online or dog walking, may have to do it themselves.

Stephen Moor, head of employment at law firm Ashfords, said: “Caution should be taken if you’re earning an additional income, as this is likely to be taxable.

“The side hustle could be treated as taxable trading income, which can include providing services or selling products.”

You can make a gross income of up to £1,000 a year tax-free via the trading allowance, but over this and you’ll usually need to pay tax.

Stephen added: “You need to register for a self-assessment at HMRC to ensure you are paying the correct amount of tax.

“The applicable tax bands and the amount of tax you need to pay will depend on your income.”

If you fail to file a tax return you could end up with a surprise bill from HMRC later on asking you to pay the tax you owe – plus extra fees on top.

One person said: “Tell me please.”

Another added: “Yes please I need more info.”

A third commented: “I’m interested. Please can you send me information.”

I’m fuming my nosy neighbour has installed a camera that looks right into my garden – and it’s sparked a BIG debate

A WOMAN has been left fuming after spotting her ‘nosy’ neighbour has installed a camera in their window which points into her garden.

She showed how the CCTV device has been placed inside their home, but it completely invades her privacy.

On her @666price account, she pleaded for advice, saying: “Is it illegal for someone to have a camera pointing into your garden invading your privacy?

“Nosey neighbours.”

Many people said the neighbour was in the wrong for putting the camera up.

One said: “This is not legal in most countries. Communicate with neighbor on how this is illegal and if that doesn’t work file formal complaints.”

Another added: “it is invasion of privacy. informed council and the went to the housè and made them move it to just there own gate.”

But some people disagreed, with one writing: “It’s not illegal and that camera is prob looking in their garden.”

Someone also claimed it was ironic for her to be complaining about the issue by filming her own video of the neighbour’s house.

They wrote: “As they zoom in using a camera to a bedroom window and post online. Can’t make it up.”

WHAT ARE YOUR RIGHTS?

It’s typically not illegal for a neighbour’s security camera to capture images beyond their property boundary, but it can be intrusive and raise privacy concerns.

If your CCTV footage captures images beyond your property boundary then you are subject to the data protection laws.

Legal experts say you will be regulated under the General Data Protection Regulation and the Data Protection Act.

You may be familiar with this when it comes to websites storing your data or companies sending you emails.

Joanne Ellis, a partner at Warrington-based solicitor Stephensons, said if CCTV being captured falls outside of a homeowner’s property boundaries, the person capturing the CCTV becomes a data controller.

This creates a set of responsibilities for the CCTV owner.

The person captured has a right to be told a CCTV system is being used and what information is being recorded.

Ellis said a subject access request can be made if a neighbour refuses to do this.

She said: “You can ask for the footage captured of you to be deleted  – but it can be refused if there is a legitimate reason to keep it such as it captures a burglar.

“Any third parties that the CCTV is disclosed to, such as police and insurers, are also obliged to process the footage in accordance with the rules.”

CAN YOU REFUSE TO BE FILMED?

Ellis said that a neighbour can request they are not captured on CCTV, but this might not be granted if the filming complies with regulations.

The CCTV owner must also process data in a lawful and transparent manner and only for specified and legitimate purposes.

Ellis said: “In a domestic context, this is usually to deter or record burglaries or theft.

“If the CCTV footage for example covers a potential entrance or exit and is not too intrusive for the neighbour the use is likely to be considered legitimate.”

As always with disputes, Ellis said, the best course of action is to speak with the neighbour, voice your concerns and try to reach agreement.

If that fails it may be worth taking legal advice, but this can be pricey.

How to create privacy in your garden

CREATING privacy in your garden can be achieved in a number of ways depending on your budget, and the size of your space. Here are some effective ways to enhance privacy in your garden:

1. Fencing

  • Install a tall, solid wooden or vinyl fence. This is one of the most straightforward ways to gain immediate privacy. Or use lattice panels, trellis, or slatted fencing to add a decorative touch while still offering privacy.

2. Hedges and Plants

  • Fast-growing evergreen shrubs or trees like Leylandii, Thuja, or Bamboo along the boundary of your garden can help with privacy. Grow a dense hedge using plants like Boxwood, Privet, or Laurel. It may take time to grow, but it provides a natural and green privacy screen. Use climbers like Ivy, Clematis, or Wisteria on fences or trellises to create a lush, green privacy barrier.

3. Outdoor Curtains

  • Hang outdoor curtains around pergolas, gazebos, or patios for an easy-to-adjust privacy solution.

4. Sound Barriers

  • A water fountain or small waterfall can help drown out noise, adding to the sense of privacy. Or install fencing designed to reduce noise if privacy from sound is also a concern.
