King Charles up for Royal Ascot revenge after ‘stinker’ on day one as ‘fast improving’ horse is smashed into favourite

KING CHARLES is back for Royal Ascot revenge after a ‘stinker’ on day one.

The monarch’s horse Rainbows Edge has been smashed into 7-2 favourite for the Kensington Palace Stakes at 5.35pm.

King Charles suffered a ‘stinker’ on day one when his well-backed horse Reach High got trapped in a pocket and couldn’t get out – despite being backed into favourite[/caption]

King Charles and Camilla looked like they’d be celebrating a Royal success on day one with Reaching High.

But the historic horse, bred by his late mum Queen Elizabeth II, suffered a ‘stinker’ in the closing stages under Ryan Moore.

The world’s best jockey was trapped in a pocket on the Willie Mullins-trained 11-4 favourite and couldn’t get out.

It meant one of the biggest gambles of the meeting could finish only ninth in the Ascot Stakes.

Rainbows Edge, a four-year-old filly trained by father-son duo John & Thady Gosden, hopefully won’t have such problems under two-time champion jockey William Buick.

She has been backed in from 9-2 for the mile contest worth £57,000 to the winner and arrives in blistering form after winning at Ascot last time out.

In fact, she has only lost once in four races, and even they, at Salisbury in August last year, she finished second.

Templegate's verdict on the King's favourite

By Steve Mullen (Templegate)

There’s every chance of a Royal winner thanks to Rainbows Edge who could well be the proverbial Group horse lurking in a handicap.

She has earned top weight after an impressive victory over course and distance last time.

That was just her fourth run so there should be a lot more to come from William Buick’s mount.

The big danger looks like being Arolla.

This improving daughter of Kingman made a cracking return when second to the smart Jabaara in a Musselburgh Listed race earlier this month and now drops into handicap company off a perfectly fair mark of 100.

My fancy stayed on eye-catchingly from off the pace.

With the strong gallop expected to suit her hold-up style, she can pounce late under top Irish jockey Colin Keane.

And the trainers are in top form after their stable star, Field Of Gold, routed rivals with a devastating victory in the St James’s Palace Stakes, the big race on day one.

Rainbows Edge, just like Reaching High, was bred by her late Majesty and Gosden Snr has been delighted with her rapid progress, saying: “She’s a very game filly. She’s got a great attitude and up to a mile and a quarter would be her best trip.”

The King, whose only Ascot win was Desert Hero’s emotional victory in 2023, is set to attend every day of the five-day festival after The Sun revealed he was surprised at how much he enjoyed the occasion.

He had taken over his mum Queen Elizabeth II’s stable of horses. She had more than 20 Royal Ascot winners during her 70-year reign.

Earlier, Charles had written in the official racecard: “Having experienced the thrill of victory at Royal Ascot ourselves in 2023, we can only wish all those competing this week the very best of luck and that everyone watching has a most enjoyable five days.”

JACK Fincham has confirmed he and Chloe Brockett have split AGAIN as she focuses on her sexy new career.

The on/off reality stars got back together for a seventh time just weeks ago but Jack, 34, has now revealed it’s all over.

Love Island star Jack was asked during an Instagram Q&A if he and former Towie star Chloe, 24, are together.

He replied: “No. It’s a single summer of boxing and working as hard as I can.”

The couple appeared to be back on when they both shared snaps from a day out to a flower market earlier this month.

Days later they were pictured together as they went for a walk in Essex.

Since leaving Towie in 2023, Chloe has pursued a career sharing steamy content on OnlyFans – and most recently looked incredible as she posed in red lacy lingerie

She previously took to Instagram to brand her situation with Love Island winner Jack “embarrassing”.

She said: “I’m well aware of how embarrassing my situation has been for the last year.

“Anyone who’s been involved in a relationship like that will know that it’s tedious, tiring and a constant revolving door of the same s***.

“Even I was embarrassed the most recent time I was pictured out with this person and wanted this person around me.”

In April Jack and Chloe split for the sixth time in two years as he moved out of the home they shared.

Shortly afterwards, Chloe revealed on social media she’d snapped up her own place.

And an insider told us the couple were using the time apart to decide on their future together.

The source said: “They’ve both been through a tough time lately and are trying to figure out if they’re better together or apart.”

Heatwave to start from TODAY with Ireland to sizzle in ‘glorious’ 24C heat as Met Eireann pinpoint four warmest areas

IRELAND is set for a heatwave from today with temperatures soaring to 24C in a “glorious day”.

The conditions are set to last well into next week with temperatures only getting warmer as time progresses.

It will get very warm tomorrow[/caption]

But real heatwave conditions will start from today[/caption]

Today will be a dry and warm day with “good sunshine” beaming across the country.

Met Eireann have promised temperatures are set to reach 20C to 22C country wide and that some places could even be looking at 23C to 24C temperatures.

In northern and northwestern parts it will be slightly cooler with some rain and cloud possible.

Even here, temperatures will still be up as high as 18C.

Alan O’Reilly of Ireland’s Weather Channel also weighed in on the sunny conditions expected for today.

The weather expert said on X: “Some showers in the Northwest but further South it is going to be a glorious day.”

Tonight it will remain mild at 12C and lingering cloud and drizzle will clear.

The real heatwave conditions will get underway on Thursday and Friday with temperatures up to 26C “or higher” in parts according to Met Eireann.

Meteorologist Cathal Nolan of Ireland’s Weather Channel outlined exactly what can be expected from the summer heat blast.

He explained: “Thursday and Friday will be both very warm or locally hot days with temperatures generally reaching between 23C to 26C, but locally reaching up to 27C or even 28C in prolonged spells of sunshine or areas northwest of high ground.”

The weather expert also revealed when we will start to see a change in our weather.

He said: “The weekend remains very warm but increasingly humid with some models indicating a risk of thunderstorms developing through Saturday as a trough emerges from the Bay of Biscay, something we’ll be keeping a close eye on.

“Thereafter the ECMWF keeps things warm or very warm but humid until next Wednesday, whereas the GFS shows a breakdown occurring late on Sunday.

“Either way, we have some very pleasant summer conditions ahead of us through this week.”

Even on Thursday night temperatures will not drop below 16C in clear and dry conditions.

Deirdre Lowe, Meteorologist with Met Eireann, has been able to pinpoint exactly where the best conditions will hit.

She explained: “Temperatures reaching the mid 20s or higher in the midlands, west and north.”

WEEKEND OUTLOOK

As weather experts warned there is a possibility of some thunderstorms over the weekend amid the very humid weather.

Cloud and sunny spells with a scattering of showers will kickstart Saturday.

The chance of some of those heavy or thundery downpours will feed up from the south as the day progresses.

However, even with those conditions temperatures will still remain very warm at 23C.

On Sunday then a mix of cloud and sunny spells with a few showers are expected.

It will be “a bit fresher” with highest temperatures of 16C to 21C in moderate westerly breezes.

Current indications do suggest temperatures will rise back up slightly to 23C on Monday.

Damien Duff channels Roy Keane while rubbishing supposed drawback of Shelbourne’s European journey

ALL news is local.

So the pitting of Shelbourne and Linfield against each other in a Champions League qualifier could be viewed in a number of ways.

Duff has turned out to be as uncompromising a figure as his longtime Ireland teammate[/caption]

The most obvious is a clash between the league winners from either side of the border, competing to be known as All-Ireland champions, even if it is a title for which Linfield cares little.

Damien Duff said: “It’s a brilliant day for everyone at the football club, especially for those who have been through the dark times.

“Players and staff watched the draw together and there is already a great buzz at the prospect of an All-Ireland derby.”

It is also a tussle between two former Dundalk team-mates, Shels’ Sean Gannon and Chris Shields of Linfield, although both are suspended for the first leg.

In Scotland, it was being framed as a contest between teams led by ‘Celtic and Rangers heroes’.

David Healy had six months at Ibrox as a player which was long enough to win an SPL title and League Cup.

Duff spent 17 months as a coach at Celtic during which time the club won two league titles, a Scottish Cup and a League Cup.

Born just five months apart in 1979, the tie could be defining in the coaching career of both famed former internationals.

Healy’s first experience of European football as a manager was a 2-1 aggregate defeat to Cork City in 2016. He fell agonisingly short of leading Linfield into the group stages of the Conference League in 2022.

His side led Latvia’s RFS 2-0 in the first leg but lost a penalty shoot-out in Belfast after conceding an own goal in stoppage time at the end of extra-time.

Duff’s came last season when they edged past St Joseph’s of Gibraltar before being outclassed by FC Zurich.

Healy is regularly mentioned in dispatches for club jobs across the water. Duff would be, had he not made it clear he has no interest in uprooting.

But negotiating the first round of the Champions League – and making group-stage football a realistic proposition – might have a few more willing to test his resolve.

For now, though, he said he will relish the extra demands Europe’s premier competition will bring, believing the complaints of others about a congested fixture list are a relic of the League’s part-time past.

Duff said: “League of Ireland teams are like ‘ugh’ but we’re going to have to deal with it and lads are going to have to get their head around it. I dealt with it for 15, 16, 20 years.

“But I still always have that. ‘I have to go again?’… yeah, you do. It’s your f***ing job and it’s the best days of your life, playing football.

“That’s up to lads looking after themselves, recovering, putting in the best account of themselves and us as a staff trying to be wise and pick the right team at the right time.”

OTHER OUTLOOK

The argument from other coaches is that so much goes into preparing for a European tie – particularly a higher-ranked opponent – that fitting in domestic fixtures reduces your chance of success.

But Duff shrugged: “It’s just a mentality thing. The big teams all around Europe, they play on a Wednesday and they’re up for the game but they’re up for it again on the weekend.

“It’s absolutely alien, I get that, to our lads but it’s something that I’ll try to hammer home and it’s something that I’ve hammered at them or aimed at them for years gone by.

“It’s not just the Europe thing. ‘Oh, Friday, we have to go again Monday. Oh, I’m tired’, You’re not tired.

“They’re all young boys. A lot of them are still living at home with their mammies getting their washing done, their cooking done.

“You can sleep 20 hours a day if you want to. All I want to see you for is 90 minutes. So to be able to only attack mentally two games a week isn’t an elite mindset for me.

“It’s just an excitement. So you can sleep when you’re dead, I guess.”

Shels are due to host Linfield on either Tuesday July 8 or Wednesday July 9 with the return leg in Belfast the following week

The no-nonsense tips that made Kim Woodburn the original Cleanfluencer, plus the 10-minute method that brought her fame

KIM WOODBURN has made us laugh, cry, and get our act together when it comes to cleaning.

The TV personality and cleaning whizz has given us much-needed life advice over the years, which is even more appreciated after the sad news of her passing away earlier this week.

Here, we look back at her top cleaning tips[/caption]

The TV personality has helped the nation keep their homes clean for decades[/caption]

The 83-year-old is reported to have passed away from a short illness, leaving her husband and friends heartbroken.

Kim rose to fame in Channel 4‘s hit series How Clean is Your House where she showed people how to really keep their house in order.

Here, we look back on her 11 no-nonsense tips for a spick and span home that she previously shared with Fabulous.

Clean as you go

Now listen, lazy bones. If you put a drink back in the fridge and it falls over, you think you’ll get back to it tomorrow. Oh no, you don’t – clean it up it right away! It takes seconds to clean things up as you go. You’ve no need to make a song and dance about it.

Steam your shower walls

You know those little steamers you can buy to steam your kitchen floors? What they don’t tell you is they are perfect for cleaning your shower walls, too. They are as light as a feather and it cleans the tiles up a treat.

Use old towels to clean your oven

All the old towels you’ve got, never throw them out, my loves – cut them into strips. They’re rough and ready. Dip them in some warm soapy water with a bit of bicarbonate of soda to clean your oven.

Hot wash your sheets

All sorts of things fall off our bodies, especially if you’re very hairy. Put your sheets on a hot wash at least once a week, no lower than 60 degrees, or 80 degress if you can. You’re lying on them, dear, doing all sorts. You might be a very passionate person.

Sack off your sponge

Don’t use a sponge to wash up – they are filthy. You need a flat cloth or a dish-washing brush so if there’s any dirt in there you can rinse it under the tap. But a sponge, my loves – they’re the most unhygienic.

Shop around

The Pound Shop have some extremely cheap cleaners. There’s no excuse for anyone to say they can’t afford them. There are so many choices, so hunt around. If not, use lots of vinegar and warm water to clean the windows. It does a super job – it’s the old remedy.

So long, shoes

You go out in your shoes down the road and there’s dog pee that you step in or spit on the pavement. Make sure you have a good, rough carpet so when you stand on it, rub your shoes. You only have to pick up that rug and bang it on the outside wall – my God, you’ll go blind.

Deep clean your fridge

Once every couple of months, take all your fridge out – it takes five minutes. Get a nice towelling cloth and some warm water. Dip it in bicarb and lovie, it’s spotless. Do not leave your fridge for more than two months. When you start going over that, my loves – by God, you’re asking for trouble.

Toaster terror

Take out the tray at the bottom of your toaster at least once a week. Whip out an old newspaper and thump that toaster and the crumbs all come out. Then roll up the paper, dear, and throw it away. People say: “Oh, my toaster smells of burning.” Yes, it’s year-old breadcrumbs you lazy pigs.

Filter fail

If you’ve got a vacuum, do yourself a favour and clean the filters. You see people run a vacuum up and down the rug, but it’s not picking anything up. Does it not occur to you that the filter’s full? Use your common sense.

10 minute method

Kim has also shared her hack for making cleaning tasks a bit easier with the Express.

Clean as you go and throw as you go. If you do that you can’t go wrong. If you let it build then you have a huge task ahead of you. It only takes a small amount of time. Ten minutes every day and you can keep everything manageable

The fans are a “godsend” in the heat, and are described as a “personal cooling companion”[/caption]

So it’s no wonder shoppers are racing to nab a personal handheld fan, described as a “personal cooling companion”, for just £3.99.

Sally took to the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group on Facebook to share her find, posting a snap of the Status 3″ rechargeable black handheld fan.

“I don’t know if this a good deal but I’ve been to Currys and these Status handheld fans were only £3.99 each,” she wrote alongside the picture.

“They are USB rechargeable as well!”

In addition, the fan – “built for breezy convenience” – has three speeds, a USB-C rechargeable battery, and an overcharge safety feature.

It also comes with a dock, so you can stand it up on your desk or bedside table as well as holding it.

And in the comments section on the Facebook post, people insisted the fan is one worth getting.

“That’s good, I got this last year – it was £9.99!” one wrote.

“For anyone that wants to know there is loads in the Coventry one,” another said.

As a third called it a “very good price”, someone else said: “I have one of these and they are extremely good.

“That’s a good price for them as well!”

“That’s a brilliant price,” another added.

“I paid £14.99 for two from Amazon and I thought that was a bargain.”

“Good price and brilliant – I’ve had one for years,” someone else gushed.

“I’ve got one. I got it from B&M a couple of years ago and I think they are really good,” another said.

Someone else admitted they’d paid £9 for the same fan in Dunelm, while another insisted they “need one for Disney”.

Five ways to keep your kids cool in the heat

IT can be really difficult - and costly - to keep kids cool when it's hot outside. But Fabulous Digital Senior Reporter and mum-of-two Sarah Bull shares five ways to help, and they won't break the budget either.

Strip them off

It might sound simple, but stripping kids off at home can really help them regulate their temperature when it’s warm outside. Just remember to regularly apply suncream, as more of their skin will be exposed to the sun.

Cool down bedrooms before nighttime

When it’s hot outside, it can be difficult for kids to go to sleep – especially if their bedroom feels like an oven. If you have a room that’s not in direct sunshine, keep the windows open to let in a breeze. It’s also a good idea to keep the curtains closed, to prevent the room from heating up.

Wear a hat

Another simple technique, but one that really works. Make sure that if your kids are playing outside, they’ve got a hat on. It keeps their face and head shielded from the sun, and also helps if you’ve got a little one who struggles with bright sunlight. If your tot struggles to keep a hat on, try one with a strap that goes under the chin to help.

Avoid the car

The car can be one of the hottest places during a heatwave, and often takes a long time to cool down. If you have the option, it’s better to stay at home rather than taking kids out anywhere in a hot car.

Stay hydrated

This is always important, but even more so in a heatwave. Make sure you’re regularly reminding your kids to have a drink, and top them up with cool liquids whenever you can. Use ice too to ensure it’s as cold as it can possibly be.

However, others said that the fans with the spray feature are better for a trip to somewhere like Florida.

“Spray ones are great,” another added.

“I bought one in Florida still works now after 13 years, also got one from Home Bargains.”

“Yeah we got one when my Mrs was last pregnant – it was a godsend in the summer heat,” a third commented.

The positive reviews kept on coming on the Dunelm website, as one person wrote: “Brilliant fans and can be left on e.g. a desk.

“And has three settings!”

“Does what it says, powerful fan, I would recommend,” another added.

Man Utd Premier League fixtures: Ruben Amorim handed nightmare start as Arsenal kick off horror run of top six clashes

MANCHESTER UNITED have been handed a nightmare start to the 2025/26 Premier League season.

Ruben Amorim will begin his first full campaign as Red Devils boss under pressure after a dreadful end to last season.

Man Utd crashed to a worst-ever Premier League finish in 15th and missed out on European football totally after losing to Spurs in the Europa League final.

Now, with a transfer window and pre-season under his belt, Amorim has promised better this season, telling fans: “The good days are coming.”

But it certainly won’t be easy, after United were handed a horror run of fixtures to kick off the season.

The Red Devils will face last year’s runners-up Arsenal at home on the opening weekend, in Sky Sports’ 4.30pm Super Sunday clash on August 17.

The real litmus test of United’s credentials will come in two winnable games after that, a trip down to London to take on Fulham before facing newly-promoted Burnley at Old Trafford.

That’s followed by a horror double bill of Manchester City away, Chelsea at home, before a trip to Brentford to see out September.

October sees Man Utd take on bitter rivals and defending champions Liverpool at Anfield with the reverse fixture pencilled in for May 2, 2026.

The festive period starts out quite kindly on paper, with West Ham, Wolves and Bournemouth all coming before they take on Aston Villa and Newcastle before and after Christmas.

Man Utd fans will need to wait until the new year for their first clash against newly-promoted rivals Leeds, with the reverse fixture then taking place in April.

The second Manchester derby commences on January 17 and is immediately followed by Arsenal away a week later.

Manchester United Premier League fixtures, 2025/26.

After the second clash with the Gunners, Man Utd have three more games against sides from London, with Fulham, Tottenham and West Ham all on the agenda going into February.

Spring is greeted with a trip to Newcastle on March 4 followed by Aston Villa at home, while April sees them face Leeds and Brentford at Old Trafford with Chelsea away in the middle.

The final three games of the season will see Man Utd face Sunderland away, Nottingham Forest at home and end the season with a trip down the seaside with Brighton away.

CHELSEA will face a London derby against Crystal Palace to kick-start their Premier League season after a gruelling summer.

But they will get no sympathy from rivals following a gruelling Club World Cup campaign[/caption]
