FORMER Sheffield Wednesday owner Milan Mandaric has jetted to England for talks to help save his old club.
The Serbian chief was in charge of the Owls between 2010 and 2015 before selling them to current owner Dejphon Chansiri for £37.5million.

GettyCurrent owner Dejphon Chansiri is not longer investing in the club[/caption]
An American consortium boasting an ex-Premier League star, a major celebrity and several Major Baseball League stars are leading the takeover race after already having a £48m offer rejected.
But Mandaric claims he wants to be the one to “help” Wednesday get out of their current sticky situation.
Admitting he was “not very happy” to leave in 2015, Mandaric slammed Chansiri for making false promises when taking over the club.
The veteran football guru insists he is now ready to return to Sheffield with a bold plan to get things back on track.
But he feels Chansiri is asking for way too much money to sell stricken Wednesday.
Mandaric told Radio Sheffield: “He (Chansiri) gave me all the commitments in the world, that he’s got the money, the desire. That he’s got family there, and they all talked the same way.

“I was not very happy to leave the club, but there were circumstances – it was my time to leave. But I was kind of relaxed and relieved that he would continue to do a good job.
“He took the wrong direction, and advice, and now the club is where it is today. And who is suffering the most are those loyal supporters.
“It definitely needs a big rescue now, we all know that, all of us who love Sheffield Wednesday.
“I’m going to meet in London, I’m arriving there next week and I’m going to talk to some people about that, I have a plan to do so.
“I have my ex-manager who was there, Paul Aldridge, and John Redgate, who all worked for me – they know what’s going on. And I want to see what could be a possibility to takeover that club.
“I would have to get involved if I’m going to bring somebody, I’d have to get involved myself – I have no problem with that.
“There are two things, you have to find the right person, but more importantly you have to have Mr. Chansiri to agree on that – and that’s the difficult part.
“He doesn’t want to sell it, he’s asking a crazy price – he will never get over £100m as I understands… He’ll be an obstacle no matter what we try to do.”

JESSICA O’Mahony joked she “lives life on the edge” after nearly ending Peter’s via a heart attack.
She pranked him perfectly by initially stalking him in their garden like a tiger pursuing its prey.

@jeskaomahonySo much so that he stormed off[/caption]
The 35-year-old may be a hulking figure known for being tough even by rugby standards – but he’s still not immune from getting startled.
And so it proved as he nearly jumped out of his crocs before throwing a death stare her way that was usually reserved for only the tetchiest moments of his Munster and Ireland career.
Technically he does still have one game left before he hangs up his boots as he’ll line out for the Barbarians in an exhibition versus South Africa on June 28.
But being a stay-at-home dad is the new normal for the Reds warrior. Not that he’ll be very idle though.
After drawing 24-24, neither side could find a winning score in extra-time.
The game boiled down to kicks from the 15- and 10-metre lines, where Rory Scannell missed his effort.
The Sharks kicked all six of their attempts. It was also Conor Murray, Stephen Archer and Niall Scannell’s last outing for the province.
Afterwards captain Tadhg Beirne conceded: “It’s going to be a weird place next season without the lads. They bleed Munster. It’s gutting to end it like this.”
Munster took the lead after nine minutes when Jack Crowley’s cross-field kick bounced up for Calvin Nash to dive over before the out-half added the extras.
The game burst into life after the break and Sharks’ Ethan Hooker cut in from the right, weaving around the Munster defence to score, with Hendrikse converting and then adding a penalty.
Fineen Wycherley squeezed through a gap to cross, with Crowley’s kick successful.
The Reds extended their lead when Sharks were unable to defend Mike Haley’s kick, allowing Diarmuid Kilgallen to pounce.
But Sharks pulled a try back when Aphelele Fassi crossed, with Hendrikse converting. Fez Mbatha then struck, as Hendrikse again added the extras.
Murray’s monster penalty levelled matters at 24-24 to send the game to extra time.
Beirne added: “I’m massively proud of the boys. We fought to the bitter end.”

EASTENDERS actress Michelle Ryan has already made her soap exit just days after arriving back on the show.
In scenes broadcast today on the BBC soap opera, her character Zoe Slater walked away from any potential plan of making a move back to Walford.
Zoe Slater has already fled WalfordShe made a shock exit after a close encounter with Kat SlaterStacey pleaded with her on the phone not to leave
EastEnders fans were left gobsmacked when it was revealed that Zoe was back on the show after she made contact with Stacey Slater.
She was shown to be living in squalor and surviving off just vodka and vapes.
It was clear from the off that Zoe was hiding a huge secret as she admitted to Stacey and Alfie to being “scared and sorry” for what she had done without giving any clues as to what.
Having hidden out at a flat being rented by Stacey, Zoe was left stunned when Kat, Jean and Harvey all turned up at the residence.
Adamant she did not want to see Kat or have her know that she was in London, Zoe was forced to hide in her bedroom as Stacey and Alfie did their best to throw the others off the scent.
Despite lying and insisting that Stacey had been struggling, Kat was left unconvinced.
Having left, she decided to return to the flat once more and demand to know the truth.
With Zoe still hiding out in the bedroom, she tripped, causing a noise, which startled Kat and set her mind racing.
Demanding to know if someone was in the room, she eventually barged in, leaving Stacey and Alfie terrified that the secret was about to spill out.
However, they were shocked to find a fully open window with Zoe nowhere to be seen.
With Kat accepting that she was ‘wrong’, she soon left once more as Stacey and Alfie made contact with Zoe to see where she had fled to.
But it was too late, as Zoe confirmed to them over the phone that she would be disappearing once again and shunning any chance of a Walford comeback.
She said to the pair on the phone: “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to cause you no trouble.”
Stacey told her “not to worry” about it as Zoe continued: “I can’t [come back]. I’ve got to go.”
Revealing that her secret may be darker than first predicted, Zoe added: “Don’t look for me. It was a mistake.
“It was a mistake to get back in touch.
“I ain’t saying it was easy, hearing her [Kat], seeing her face, but I done something bad, something so bad.
“You would never forgive me.”
Zoe went onto insist that she could never say what it is that she had done and pleaded to Stacey that the whole Slater clan would hate her, especially Kat.
She soon ended the phone call and made her exit, walking out of an apartment building into the street tearfully.
However, we know that Michelle will be back on the show later in the year – so will Zoe’s secret eventually be revealed?
Stacey and Alfie were left flabbergastedZoe will however be back later this year

IT’S the first instinct for many people – to open the windows when it gets warm outside.
And with temperatures set to exceed 28°C this week, there will undoubtedly be millions of people cracking theirs open in a bid to catch a break from the stuffy temperatures.
AlamyHaving your windows open during a heatwave could actually make your home even stuffier[/caption]
GettyInstead, wait until 8pm and then seize the opportunity to whack the windows open fully[/caption]
However, according to one expert, there are only two times during the day and night that you should actually open the windows.
“The number one rule in a heatwave is to not open your windows when it’s hotter outside than in,” Alan Reid, double glazed doors and windows expert at Art Windows and Doors, explained.
“Opening your windows is not cooling your home, it’s just letting more heat come flooding in.”
So make sure that your windows and blinds are closed between 11am and 4pm – especially if your house is south-facing.
And at 8pm, you can open your windows fully – this will allow the hot air to escape gradually when the temperature outside start to drop.
It’s then a good idea to leave your windows on night mode, if you have that setting on your vents.
“Most modern windows have a built in vent lock or night catch which lets you crack the window slightly for airflow without leaving it fully open,” Alan added.
“Used at the right time when the outdoor air is cooler, it can help release trapped heat from your home.”
You can open the windows fully once again in the morning, before the temperatures rise again.
There are some other ways you can help keep your home cool in the daytime during a heatwave too.
Five ways to keep your kids cool in the heat
IT can be really difficult - and costly - to keep kids cool when it's hot outside. But Fabulous Digital Senior Reporter and mum-of-two Sarah Bull shares five ways to help, and they won't break the budget either.
Strip them off
It might sound simple, but stripping kids off at home can really help them regulate their temperature when it’s warm outside. Just remember to regularly apply suncream, as more of their skin will be exposed to the sun.
Cool down bedrooms before nighttime
When it’s hot outside, it can be difficult for kids to go to sleep – especially if their bedroom feels like an oven. If you have a room that’s not in direct sunshine, keep the windows open to let in a breeze. It’s also a good idea to keep the curtains closed, to prevent the room from heating up.
Wear a hat
Another simple technique, but one that really works. Make sure that if your kids are playing outside, they’ve got a hat on. It keeps their face and head shielded from the sun, and also helps if you’ve got a little one who struggles with bright sunlight. If your tot struggles to keep a hat on, try one with a strap that goes under the chin to help.
Avoid the car
The car can be one of the hottest places during a heatwave, and often takes a long time to cool down. If you have the option, it’s better to stay at home rather than taking kids out anywhere in a hot car.
Stay hydrated
This is always important, but even more so in a heatwave. Make sure you’re regularly reminding your kids to have a drink, and top them up with cool liquids whenever you can. Use ice too to ensure it’s as cold as it can possibly be.
Some are somewhat self-explanatory – don’t use ovens or other heat-generating appliances during peak heat hours, and use linen or cotton bedding to stay cooler at night.
But other ideas include having light coloured curtains and blinds, as this will stop them absorbing the heat, and will instead keep rooms cool.
And if you’ve got a fan, you can turn it into a makeshift air cooler by putting a bowl full of ice in front of it.

ONE of the stars of Coronation Street has revealed that she’s signed a new contract.
GettyJodie Prenger has revealed that she’s staying on Coronation Street for the timebeing[/caption]
ITVThe actress made her debut as barmaid Glenda Shuttleworth in 2022[/caption]
She first rose to fame after winning a number of huge TV shows in the noughties which included Andrew Lloyd Webber’s I’d Do Anything on the BBC in 2009BBC
This is set to keep her on the seemingly struggling ITV soap for at least another year amid the cast exodus.
A number of high-profile stars have left Coronation Street after a string of high-profile budget cuts.
However, one star has revealed that she is very much set to stay on the cobbles, and possibly behind the bar of the Rovers.
She rose to fame after winning the second series of The Biggest Loser in 2006.
This was before she beat out the likes of Oscar nominee Jessie Buckley to win the role of Nancy in the 2009 West End revival of Oliver as part of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s BBC Talent show, I’d Do Anything.
The actress soon swapped the stage for the screen as she secured a ‘dream’ role on the cobbles.
Jodie has now revealed that she’s set to reprise her popular role in more episodes of the show.
She excitedly told Bella magazine: “I’ve just re-signed my contract! The poor things have got stuck with me for another year!
“I’m thrilled. I love it there. I used to always say to my agent, ‘Would you ask if I can be on Corrie?’.”
She added: “I was that crazy person outside, pitched in a tent, wanting to get in – and now I’m in!”
This comes following a string of high-profile exits including Helen Worth, who departed her long-running role as Gail Platt.
ITV bosses are locked in a battle to save the cash-strapped soap.
This means that a number of stars have either been axed from or have abandoned the long-running serial drama.
Colson Smith – Craig Tinker
The character of Craig Tinker has been axed by bosses after 14 years. After he was told of the news in Autumn 2024, Colson Smith confirmed that would be written out of the show with scenes to air later this year. Craig’s on-screen mum, Beth Tinker, also left the show in the summer when actress Lisa George was written out from the role.
Sue Cleaver – Eileen Grimshaw
After 25 years playing Eileen Grimshaw, former I’m A Celebrity campmate Sue Cleaver will quit the show. The Sun on Sunday reported in January that she’s already begun to film her exit scenes. However the character will not be killed off in case Sue opts to make a return in the future.
The actress became the fifth star to leave Coronation Street in just one month. We revealed that she will bow out of the ITV soap later this year after four years on-screen. Charlotte told sources that she’s hungry to see what other opportunities await.
Yasmeen Metcalfe (Shelley King) also left the street to volunteer at a modern slavery charity in London after her partner Stu Carpenter (Bill Fellows) started fresh in Germany.
Emmerdale used to air six episodes per week, Monday to Friday with a double episode on Thursdays.
Corrie also aired six episodes per week, which were spread across Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with two episodes each night.
Now just five 30-minute episodes of each soap will air in what execs have labelled as the ‘soap power hour’.

HAY FEVER sufferers are likely to experience the peak of their symptoms this week, with ‘very high’ pollen alerts issued for most parts of the country.
And with pollen season in full swing, it’s likely uncomfortable bouts of sneezing, itching and watery eyes will continue in the weeks to come.
Understanding what type of hay fever you have might help you prepare betterMet Office Pollen counts will be very high across most of the country by the end of this week[/caption]
London will grapple with very high pollen counts today (Wednesday 18 June), and by Friday most of the country will battle surging levels.
Whether you’re suffering with itchy eyes, a runny nose or incessant sneezing, have you ever stopped to think about what your symptoms mean?
And why yours and others’ symptoms seem to come on at different times of the year?
The Sun spoke to Boots Superintendent Pharmacist, Claire Nevinson, to get some answers.
Are there different types of hay fever?
Everyone can experience hay fever differently, whether it’s sensitivity in their eyes, nose or throat.
While there aren’t exactly different types of hay fever, there are different types of pollen that trigger symptoms.
And these allergens circulate at different times, depending on the time of year.
Claire told Sun Health: “Pollen is a fine dust that disperses in the wind to reach other plants for pollination and start new plants.
“What many people don’t know is that there are different types of pollen that could trigger a hay fever reaction.
“Tree pollen, which is typically released in spring, grass pollen which tends to peak during the end of spring and the start of summer and lastly, weed pollen which typically peaks in the late autumn.”
The Met Office notes that there are around 30 different types of pollen that cause hay fever and it is possible to be allergic to more than one type.
Most people are allergic to grass pollen, while about 25 per cent of hay fever sufferers are affected to by tree pollen.
According to Allergy UK, someone with a grass pollen allergy will experience similar symptoms and require similar treatments as someone allergic to birch tree pollen, for example.
What do your hay fever symptoms mean?
Pollen allergies can show up in your nose, eyes and throat
Claire said: “If you suffer with hay fever symptoms, such as itchy and watery eyes, an itchy throat, sneezing and a runny nose, this may indicate that you are allergic to pollen.”
Simply put, your hay fever is is an allergic reaction that occurs when your immune system overreacts to allergens present in the air.
Your pollen allergy many cause allergic rhinitis, which is inflammation of the nasal lining caused by an allergic trigger.
It can also land you with allergic conjunctivitis, characterised by itching, burning, watering and red eyes as well as puffy eyelids.
There’s even a condition called pollen food syndrome, a hypersensitivity reaction to fruits, vegetables and nuts that can cause an itchy mouth, lips and throat.
Affecting two per cent of British adults, it’s thought to be linked to whether you’re sensitive to grass, tree or weed pollen, according to Allergy UK.
For example, you might experience food pollen syndrome when eating apples, apricots, cherries and kiwis if you’re sensitive to tree pollen, typically birch or alder.
Meanwhile, a grass pollen allergy could make you sensitive to melons, oranges, watermelons and dates.
Sun Health's 14 tips to beat hay fever hell on a budget
SUMMER is here, which means the annual onslaught of dreaded hay fever symptoms is back with a vengeance.
Triggered when the immune system reacts to the allergen pollen, common hay fever symptoms include watery, itchy eyes, a tickly throat and a runny, congested nose.
Holly Shaw, a nurse adviser for charity Allergy UK, puts this down to “better diagnosis but also climate change, with warmer temperatures causing pollen seasons to start earlier and last longer”.
But if the go-to remedies of daily anti-histamine tablets, nasal sprays and balms from the chemist are not doing the trick, don’t lose hope, there are other hacks you can deploy.
From regularly showering and vacuuming the home to scoffing chocs, here are some tactics backed by experts not to be sneezed at . . .
Wear wraparound sunglasses and a hat with a peak or big brim or go for a face mask
On high pollen days, have a bath or shower and wash your hair. Change your clothes when you get home.
Avoid mowing the lawn or raking leaves – ask someone else to step in.
Try not to dry clothes or bed linen outside when the allergen count is high.
Keep windows firmly closed, especially early in the morning and in the evening, when higher levels of pollen are released.
Wipe down pets with a damp cloth, as they can bring pollen into the home. Also, think about keeping your dog or cat away from you if you can.
Put Vaseline around your nostrils to trap particles before they can work their way up your nose.
Take a few minutes each day to vacuum well, especially if you have deep-pile carpets. Hoover over upholstered furniture where particles may have spread through open window.
Wipe down window panes and sills regularly.
Wash your bedding once a week at a high temperature to remove any pollen that may have transferred from you and your clothes.
Take vitamin D supplements. Research has shown they can regulate immune system cells that help to prevent allergic reactions.
Experts say diets high in antioxidants such as broccoli, spinach, potato and carrot can help to ward off stuffy noses caused by hay fever.
Dark chocolate can also help to reduce symptoms, it is said.
If all else fails and you feel hay fever is ruining your life, or even causing asthma attacks, pay a visit to your doctor who could refer you to a specialist clinic
But you’re more likely to experience hay fever symptoms if you have other conditions or allergies like asthma, allergic dermatitis or eczema.
As your immune system is involved in your allergic reaction to pollen, how strong it is might also affect your symptoms.
“The body’s immune system can change over time, which can affect how it responds to allergens,” Samuel J White, senior lecturer in genetic immunology at Nottingham Trent University, wrote in The Conversation.
“This means someone who had severe hay fever symptoms in the past may experience milder symptoms as they get older.
“Indeed, hay fever can develop at any age, but it’s more common in children and young adults.
“As a person ages, their immune system may become less reactive to allergens, leading to a reduction in hay fever symptoms.
“Lifestyle factors such as stress, diet and exercise can affect the immune system and may contribute to the severity of hay fever symptoms.
“For example, stress can weaken the immune system, making it more susceptible to allergens.”
Finally, genetics can play a role too – you’re more likely to suffer from hay fever if family members of yours do too.
How to best treat each symptom
Claire said: “Hay fever symptoms differ for each person, but commonly there are three key areas where people are affected, the eyes, nose and throat.
“If people suffer from asthma, their symptoms may worsen during hay fever season.”
Taking antihistamine tablets can target your overall symptoms, but you may want to address them specifically.
“If people struggle with sneezing or a runny and blocked nose, they might consider using a nasal spray alongside antihistamines,” Claire explained.
“And to soothe dry, sore and watery eyes, allergy relief drops can be used to help.”
You can also opt for throat spray to soothe an inflamed throat, or a cooling eye compress to ease sore eyes and headaches.
If over-the-counter remedies are not proving effective, speak to your GP.
If you hate the thought of drops, consider an eye mist which works in the same way – just spray it once or twice onto closed eyelids to to three times a day.
Ultra Chloraseptic Anaesthetic Throat Spray contains the active ingredient benzocaine which belongs to the group of medicines called local anaesthetics.

THE HISTORY OF DUNNES STORES
DUNNES Stores opened its first store on Patrick Street in Cork in 1944 - and it was an instant hit.
Shoppers from all over the city rushed to the store to snap up quality clothing at pre-war prices in Ireland’s first ‘shopping frenzy’.
During the excitement, a window was forced in and the police had to be called to help control the crowds hoping to bag founder Ben Dunne’s ‘Better Value’ bargains.
Dunnes later opened more stores in the 1950s and began to sell groceries in 1960 – starting with apples and oranges.
The retailer said: “Fruit was expensive at the time and Ben Dunne yet again offered Better Value than anyone else in town.
“Over time, our food selection has grown and that spirit of good value has remained strong.
“Now we offer a wide range of carefully-sourced foods from both local Irish suppliers and overseas.”
The retailer’s first Dublin store opened its doors in 1957 on Henry Street and a super store on South Great Georges Street was unveiled in 1960.
They added: “In 1971, our first Northern Irish store opened, and many others soon followed.
“Expansion continued in the 1980s in Spain, and later into Scotland and England.”
Dunnes now has 142 stores and employs 15,000 people.

Another commented: “Lovely white skirt, great length with side pockets and a lovely smocked waist. Can’t wait to take it in holiday.”
Why Everyone Is Loving M&S
Deputy Fashion Editor Abby McHale revealed to Fabulous why M&S is the shop of the moment. She explained:
“M&S has really pulled it out of the bag this season, there is so much good product to be excited about.
“A brand once known for its ‘frumpy fashion’ that notion is long gone with it now being one of the leading high street stores for womenswear.
“Its handbag range in particular is super strong with them selling 170% vs plan, with lots more designer dupes for just a fraction of the price.
“The brand is now also the #1 for style perceptions, compared to the #3 spot it had last year, this comes from a really strong design team focused on modernising the brand, not only taking into consideration how the pieces look, but how easy they are to wear also.
“Price is also a big factor with you being able to get many good quality pieces all for under £30.
“After having a sneak peak of the upcoming collection there are so many more amazing pieces that are dropping over the next few months to keep your eyes on.
“Think leopard print dresses, colourful co-ords, embroidered boho jackets, plus lots of swimwear and amazing accessories, as well as great wardrobe staples that will last year on year.”
“Lovely lightweight skirt. Feels very comfortable on. Love the waist with elastic to fit any shape. Can wear high up on waist or on hips. Lightly see through but not too much. Lovely quality material,” penned a third.
Meanwhile, a fourth said: “Love it super comfortable, smart enough so can dress it up or down. Love the pockets. Had lots of compliments and queries as to where they could get it.”
“Perfect for summer and so versatile. Feels like good quality material for the price,” claimed a fifth.
Someone else added: “I bought a similar skirt from a high street retailer and it doesn’t touch the quality of this one, plus this had pockets! I’ve bought all the colours in this shirred waist style as they’re coords and I love easy to wear styles, being a busy mum of 3.”
