Former ITV presenter ‘punched boyfriend and chucked her chips at him during bust up at train station’

A FORMER ITV journalist punched her boyfriend and chucked chips at him during a row at a train station, a court heard.

Victoria Mayo who also worked for the BBC, is accused of assaulting Edward Royall at Oulton Broad North railway station on February 22.

The 41-year-old appeared at Great Yarmouth Magistrates’ Court where she pleaded not guilty to the charge.

JPs heard Mr Royall, who supported Mayo in court, had called police and also claimed his hair had been pulled.

He has since written to magistrates asking for the assault charge to be dropped, Mayo’s solicitor said.

Rob New also claimed the behaviour is “consented” to in their relationship.

He added: “Miss Mayo’s partner will be a witness [for the defence] at the trial, so the dispute is whether a crime has actually taken place.

“There is said to have been an incident at the train station. They had a disagreement, which resulted in her throwing things at him, chips at him.”

Prosecutor John Cooper said the alleged attack had been recorded on CCTV and the footage would be played at the trial.

It shows Mayo allegedly “pull his hair, punch him and throw chips at him”.

The prosecutor also said photos of Mr Royall’s injuries will also be presented to the court.

Mayo was released on unconditional bail ahead of her trial at Great Yarmouth Magistrates Court on September 12.

The journalist worked for 13 years at ITV Anglia before leaving to last year to focus on her PR business.

Mayo also carried out freelance work for the BBC and Global.

THE HISTORY OF PENNEYS

THE Penneys brand grew from humble beginnings on Dublin's Mary Street, where it opened its first store in 1969.

Known as Primark outside Ireland, the company was the brainchild of Garfield Weston, who hired Dubliner Arthur Ryan to make his vision reality.

Penneys branched into the UK in 1973 with its first store opening in Derby. The UK now has 191 Primark stores in total.

However, the Penneys name could not travel to Britain as the American retailer JC Penney had the right to use the name in the region.

And in 2006, the expansion into Europe began with an opening in Spain, followed by the Netherlands, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, Austria, France and Italy.

Primark went Stateside for the first time in September 2015, with the opening of a store in Boston. There are now 27 stores in America with branches in Florida, Brooklyn, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The retailer’s opened its largest store in Birmingham in 2019.

It spans five floors and features Primark’s biggest beauty studio to date, a barbers and three restaurants.

Bumblebee 1000’s Talladega Nights roadtrip raises €231,458 for Little Blue Heroes charity

Collage of supercars and children at the Bumblebee 1000 event.

BUMBLEBEE 1000 came, we saw, and we conquered, plus we raised €231,458 for the Little Blue Heroes charity.

Our latest supercar roadtrip, Talladega Nights, took place over the weekend and this was our biggest event to date with over 100 vehicles taking part.

A red Ferrari LaFerrari and other luxury cars parked outside a building with people standing nearby.
RED ALERT: The LaFerrari was a very rare sight on Irish roads so as you can imagine this €3m hypercar was a massive hit with spectators

On the start line at Barberstown Castle we had one of the fastest and most expensive hypercars in the world — a 1,600bhp Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+.

This Bugatti, worth over €5million, is a limited-edition variant of the Chiron that has an incredible top speed of 490.484kph.

And taking part in the full roadtrip was a 950bhp LaFerrari, one of only 499 in the world, that’s powered by a 6.3-litre V12 and uses F1-derived tech.

It was a sight to behold to see this stunning red €3m hypercar cruising the streets of Ireland alongside other beautiful Ferraris like the SF90, the 296 GTB, the F8 and the 458.

As always Bumblebee 1000 events raise money for the incredible Little Blue Heroes.

It is voluntarily led by Garda members, provides vital support to the families of sick kids in Ireland and now Bumblebee 1000 has raised over €840,107 for this incredible charity.

I joined the action in a 727bhp M5 super saloon thanks to my friends at BMW Ireland and was dressed as the Irish Sun’s tamed Motoring Editor The Ligg.

But if I had a euro for every time someone commented, ‘There’s The Stig’ as I drove by, I would have easily covered my fuel bill for the weekend.

And it’s always fun at all the fuel stops to take selfies with all the spectators and all the wonderful Little Blue Heroes I meet along the way.

Part of our three-day road trip took us through the stunning scenery of the Ring of Kerry.

The hills were literally alive with the sound of supercars, and to see and hear over 100 of them roar down through Moll’s Gap in sunshine was breathtaking.

And I’m sure the thousands who turned out to see their favourite cars were blown away with the sheer amount of rare machines like the limited edition Lamborghini Aventador SVJ 63.

It’s so rare there are only 63 of them made, and the amazing silver model on the trip was also right-hand drive — only a handful of them are in existence.

The finish lines on a Bumblebee 1000 road trip always draw the biggest crowds and on Friday at the Neil Armstrong Way in Kerry the turnout was incredible.

While on Saturday at the Lewis Road Car Park in Killarney, the whole town turned out to see us arrive and join in the party atmosphere.

But we saved the best to last as on Sunday when we pulled into the Portlaoise Plaza it was packed with spectators who got to see the finest collection of supercars ever in Ireland at one time.

GK Barry reveals reason I’m A Celeb cast no longer speak seven months after show – and Maura and Danny’s drunken kiss

I’M A Celeb star GK Barry has split the tea on her relationship with her former campmates – and who she’s still in contact with.

Speaking on The Katie Price podcast, the GK told the former glamour model how the group has disintegrated – just seven months after forming a jungle bond.

GK Barry starred on the ITV show in series 24 last December[/caption]

TV star Katie inquired if she still communicated with her 2024 camp buddies.

The 47-year-old asked: “Have you kept in contact, because this is another thing, when I’ve done Big Brother and all of that, you’re like, Yeah, I’ll stay in contact…

“But you know the ones you’ll stay in contact with and some you just know… in the beginning you text and then…”

GK admitted: “We had a group chat. It has died down slightly as you can imagine, it’s died down.”

She added: “But I still keep in contact with the Rev [Richard Coles] – and Dean [McCullough] I still keep in contact with a little bit, but mainly the Rev and Melvin [Odoom].”

The 25-year-old concluded: “I keep in contact with Melvin quite a lot.”

The internet personality entered the I’m A Celeb Jungle last year and quickly became a fan favourite and ended up placing fifth.

Following her TV stint she went on to make multiple appearances on daytime TV show Loose Women.

Back in April, the group was still active and radio star Dean lifted the lid on what went on in the cast’s infamous WhatsApp thread.

Before the group fell apart, he said: “No, no one’s left. Everyone’s in it. Everyone’s chatting away.

“I just love it because you’ll just wake up one morning, and there’ll just be a picture of Coleen [Rooney] on the school run with the kids, or Richard the other day sent us a picture of him at 10 o’clock in the morning in full fancy dress.

“He was dressed as a nun. Everyone’s in it, of course, and excited to meet up again.”

While love is in bloom for GK and her footballer girlfriend Ella Rutherford, McFly star Danny‘s marriage to his wife Georgia has been rocked since appearing on the show.

Singer Danny, 39, has been trying to move on from the fall out from his “drunken kiss” with Maura Higgins, 34, at the Brit Awards.

The pair starred alongside GK in the 2024 series of I’m A Celeb.

Wife and podcaster Georgia – who briefly moved out of the family home following the kiss scandal – was reportedly “furious” at the way the Star Girl singer had handled the aftermath of the scandal.

A few of the campmates are set to be working together soon, which could make things very awkward for Maura and Danny.

Georgia broke her silence on social media after three months on from the kiss and posted her first photo of her husband in a Father’s Day tribute.

Why police were called to first Dunnes Stores opening

BETWEEN the weekly food shops and bargain fashion - Dunnes Stores is a staple retailer in Irish households.

But this wasn’t always the case, and when the initial branch of the shop opened its doors in 1944 it caused quite the stir

On March 31 of the year, Ben Dunne opened the first ever Dunnes Stores on St Patrick’s Street in Co Cork

Locals quickly learned of the grand opening and flooded into the store in what the retailer’s archives recall as a “shopping frenzy.”

The bargain clothing on sale inside the new store at “pre-war prices” was one of the factors cited for the buzz.

During the chaos a window was forced in and Gardai were called to the scene.

Cops worked to deal with the eager crowds and keep shoppers calm and safe before they made it into the store for their first Dunnes experience.

Fast forward some 80 years, the business now employs over 18,000 people and although an opening of a Dunnes branch hasn’t caused quite as much stir since the very first one, it has cemented its place as one of the nation’s leading retailers

Dunnes Stores now has 138 stores across Europe:

  • 118 in the Republic of Ireland,
  • 15 in Northern Ireland
  • Five stores in Spain

Padraig Harrington loving Dublin heatwave as Irish golf icon shares garden photo fans label ‘adorable’

THANKFULLY, the phrase “a dog’s life” has the opposite meaning in the case of Padraig Harrington’s pet Rio.

The Irish golf legend routinely shares pics of him spoiling Rio and older companion Setanta.

The latest instance of this showcased Rio savouring the sunshine while lounging on a comfy wicker chair.

Rio looking the picture of contentment prompted a tonne of comments who were similarly beaming about it.

Julie McCarthy hailed: “He is adorable!” Meanwhile, Patrick McEntee added: “Good boy greetings from Bethpage” (the setting for September’s Ryder Cup in New York).

Mark Kru branded Rio a “beautiful puppy” while Denis McDonald laughed: “Padraig your dogs have some life haha.”

All of Ireland is set to bask in sizzling temperatures this week as forecasters have predicted a 29C heat blast to hit in some areas.

And the scorcher will leave Ireland hotter than Canary Islands, with the holiday hotspot only enjoying heat in the low 20s.

Today “very warm sunshine” is set to hit with 26C expected in some areas across the country today.

Meteorologist Cathal Nolan from Ireland’s Weather Channel revealed we will experience a “very warm or hot weather” until Sunday.

He said: “Temperatures are on the rise right the way across the country today, with values by this afternoon reaching up to 25C over the southern half of the country where skies will clear early and long spells of warm summer sunshine develop.

“Temperatures will continue to climb tomorrow with long spells of sunshine developing once again after some initial cloud in a few spots.

“Friday remains warm or very warm with highs again reaching up to 27C or possibly 28C in one or two favoured locations with plenty of sunshine developing once again across the country.”

Additionally, Met Eireann have promised temperatures are set to reach 20C to 29C countrywide on Friday with spells of “high summer sunshine.”

They said: “Friday, will be a very warm or hot day overall, dry with spells of high summer sunshine, but the odd heavy shower may break out.

“Pretty humid as well with top values of 20C to 29C in mostly moderate southeast breezes with the hottest conditions likely towards the north of Ireland.”

Saturday brings some warm sunshine but also a scattering of heavy showers, most of those in across the western half of Ireland.

Highs of 23C to 24C are expected but there’s also the risk of the showery spells of rain.

Met Eireann added: “Winds change though on Sunday with fresher breezier conditions with showery spells of rain.

“Some heavy bursts here and there with top values of 15C to 20C with best values towards the east and that comes with brisk westerly winds.

“And early next week bringing similar conditions with sunny spells and scattered blustery showers for Monday and Tuesday.

“And possibly wet weather following for Wednesday and Thursday to though brief and misty foggy start, but with warm sunshine developing widely.”

Beckham family feud deepens as Cruz’s grandparents rush to support his new career – but brother Brooklyn stays silent

THE Beckham feud has continued to deepen as Brooklyn remained silent as his brother Cruz made a huge career move.

Victoria and David Beckham’s youngest son Cruz yesterday took to the stage to perform at an intimate gig.

He shared a photo of him playing the guitar and singing.

Proud mum Victoria, 51, captioned it “takes me back” and added “love you Cruz”.

The fashion designer then shared a photo of her parents Jackie and Anthony beaming next to Cruz.

She added: “Proud nana and papa. Love you Cruz.”

But Cruz’s older brother Brooklyn, 26, failed to share any message of support for the talented musician.

Cruz’s girlfriend Jackie Apostel also proudly supported her beau.

She wore a red and white American football style shirt with Cruz’s name on the back.

Jackie also shared a clip Cruz singing and wrote: “I am so proud of you and cannot wait for the world to hear everything you’ve poured into your craft over the past years.

“Everyone that knows you, knows how hard you work and how much you love every second of it, how eager you’ve always been to learn and be better every single day.

“How you respect your peers and the knowledge of those around you, growing, without ever showing off.”

Jackie, who is also a singer herself, added: “Your project and our passion is what brought us together and to see you and our friends play songs that you wrote and created and the world you build come to life is unbelievable and exciting. I love you.”

Feud goes on

The Beckhams are yet to speak publicly about their family row, but there have been digs thrown around on social media.

Tellingly, Brooklyn publicly wished Nicola’s brother a happy birthday just days ago, not long after snubbing his dad’s milestone entirely and also failed to post a Father’s Day tribute.

He has also added a floral tattoo to his chest, swamping the “mama’s boy” tribute to his mum Victoria that previously took pride of place.

While Romeo’s romance has ended, Brooklyn and Nicola‘s appears stronger than ever as they band together.

In a love-struck confession, Brooklyn, 26, said he knew she was “the one” after just three months of dating.

He opened up to Glamour on his early plans to pop the question to the Lola actress, who he married in Miami three years ago.

In a rare joint interview with his wife, Brooklyn said: “I knew after three months that I wanted to marry her.

“But because of Covid, I wanted to wait until our families could be there.”

The chef and photographer failed to mention his parents, David and Victoria, by name amid their feud which has seen claims Brooklyn has now hired Prince Harry’s lawyers to solve the bitter dispute.

Brooklyn continued to detail his proposal plans to Glamour’s Germany edition and added: “A few hours before, I had a golf cart accident and needed stitches in my hand.

“My thumb was completely bandaged – I couldn’t even open the wine!”

Best friends

During the chat, he was quick to gush over his spouse and their almost-instant connection.

He said: “When I first saw Nicola at Coachella, I was immediately captivated – by her beauty, her warmth, her charisma.

“Even though it was only a fleeting moment, it stayed with me for a long time.”

He then added: “You have to marry your best friend, someone you feel at home with. For me, Nicola is exactly that.”

Watch ‘movie-style’ masked gang raid to spring Brit drugs boss from custody in Spain while he was being taken to dentist

THIS is the dramatic moment a violent gang raids a police van to free a Brit prisoner drug boss being taken to a dental clinic.

The daring Ibiza assault has been described as a heist straight out of a “movie episode” and has led to the arrest of five people.

Operating in broad daylight, the armed mob were seen attacking a police van to free a British drug lord who was being escorted to a dental clinic to receive medical attention.

The gang wore bulletproof vests, used a motorcycle and a high-end vehicle with forged licence plates they later set on fire.

But while the assailants successfully freed the prisoner he was arrested hours later by the Spanish Civil Guard.

The October 2023 attack – dubbed “Van Ibiza” – has since been confirmed as a “highly planned” operation conducted by a very “sophisticated” network of gang members.

Their objective was the release of a Brit serving a sentence for drug trafficking and money laundering, the Civil Guard said.

A spokesperson for the force added: “As the investigation progressed, it was found that it was a highly planned operation with a very sophisticated network, whose objective was the release of a prisoner of British origin, who was serving a sentence in the prison of Ibiza, for crimes of drug trafficking and money laundering at an international level.”

“In addition, it was found that it was a criminal organisation of English origin, of great police interest to international organisations, which was sustained by drug trafficking and high-end vehicles stolen internationally.”

“The individuals who acted in the assault on the police van had a great specialisation in similar events.

“In fact, it was found that some of them had a record for homicide in third countries, as well as arms and drug trafficking.”

Following the assault – where assailants “intimidated the agents who were guarding a prisoner with firearms” – an urgent investigation into the group was launched.

Searches were carried out in homes and warehouses used by the gang.

Around 80,000 euros in cash and a stolen vehicle were seized, as well as large amount of drugs and documents containing details of the planned raid.

A year and a half later, cops successfully identified all those involved and confirmed they had record and arrest warrants in the UK.

The five gang members are being charged with crimes of evasion of conviction, aggravated attack against law enforcement officers, drug trafficking, membership of a criminal group, injuries and illegal possession of firearms.

A European Police Office spokesperson said: “The investigation began as a result of a violent assault that occurred in 2023, on a busy public road in Ibiza and in the morning.

“The assailants intimidated the agents who were guarding a prisoner with firearms.”

The spree of arrests comes as glamorous rapper dubbed the “Barbie Bandit” was arrested in a dramatic police raid targeting a massive dark web drugs operation.

Maria L., 25, known for posing in Barbie-pink outfits and flaunting an assault rifle on social media, was seized by Russian cops in St Petersburg on May 15.

The influencer-turned-trafficker is accused of helping run a slick online drugs shop — managing storage, distribution, and sales of illicit substances through the dark web.

Photos online show the rapper in crop tops and doll-like makeup, living a flashy life that masked a far more dangerous double identity.

Police said: “She helped sell the drugs online and also managed their storage and distribution.”

During the raid, cops uncovered laptops, mobile phones, and a “significant” stash of chemicals used to make hallucinogens — along with scales and other manufacturing gear.

Update on Air India jet black boxes as recorders could be sent to US for analysis after being hauled from 1,000C inferno

THE black box recovered from the doomed Air India flight could be sent to the US for analysis after being rescued from a blazing 1,000 degree inferno.

The critical recording device – which could reveal key details of the flight’s final moments – sustained significant damage during the horror smash in Ahmedabad.

The Indian government has the final say on who probes the device, but reports say the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) in Washington, D.C. is being considered for the analysis.

A team of Indian investigators is expected to accompany the device to ensure all protocols are followed during the advanced data extraction.

Investigators warned on Tuesday that the recovered black boxes may have melted due to the intense heat of the raging explosion.

When jet fuel is combusted inside a plane’s engine, the resulting heat can reach immense temperatures of up to 1,000 degrees.

The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner en route to London Gatwick crashed less than a minute after take-off into a doctors’ hostel, killing 241 passengers and crew and more on the ground.

The major black box update comes as an Air India boss revealed a bombshell update on the deadly crash – as he detailed how the Boeing aircraft had “recently been serviced”.

N Chandrasekaran said that the doomed jet had a “clean history” and two recently serviced engines – after experts latched onto a “gamechanging” video which could explain the disaster.

He also hit back at “speculation” on what caused the London-bound flight to crash, and added that a probe into the exact cause of the crash could take a month.

Planes usually carry two black boxes, which are small but tough electronic flight data recorders.

One records flight data, such as altitude and speed, whilst the other monitors the cockpit sound.

The Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) and Flight Data Recorder (FDR), were recovered 28 hours after the horror crash.

Despite the name, these devices are painted bright orange for visibility amid debris.

Investigators believe the CVR on this 2014-delivered aircraft likely stored only two hours of cockpit audio.

The jet predates a 2021 rule which enforced 25-hour recordings on all planes.

But the FDR is capable of logging thousands of flight parameters for over 25 hours, including altitude, airspeed, and control inputs.

The aircraft had climbed less than 600 feet before its ascent stalled, according to the Ministry of Civil Aviation.

A distress signal was sent but was met with complete radio silence.

Moments later, the plane crashed into the BJ Medical College hostel complex near the airport’s northeastern boundary.

The damaged black box is now seen as a crucial piece of evidence in understanding what led to India’s worst air disaster in nearly three decades.

Investigators hope the data from the box will shed light on the aircraft’s final moments.

It comes after crash investigators speculated that an emergency power system kicked in just before the plane went down – raising questions about whether the engines were working properly.

Analysts agreed that a small turbine generator deployed as the Boeing 787 flew towards the doctors’ hostel.

HD footage showed a “protrusion on the belly of the aircraft” with a “little grey dot” beneath it.

Commentators allege this was a system called Ram Air Turbine (RAT) poking out from the fuselage of the plane, which failed to climb more than 600ft.

Commercial airline pilot Steve Schreiber, known as Captain Steve, explained: “Many aeroplanes have it. It is just behind the wing on the right side of the aeroplane, there is a little door that holds it in.

Leading theories on Air India Flight AI171

THESE are some of the leading theories explaining the tragic Air India disaster which killed at least 270 people.

Emergency power system: A small turbine generator was seen deploying as the Boeing 787 went down, experts said.

Footage showed a “protrusion on the belly of the aircraft” with a “little grey dot” beneath it.

Commentators say this was a system called Ram Air Turbine (RAT) poking out from the fuselage of the plane.

Bird Strikes: A bird strike could have taken out both of the jet’s giant General Electric engines.

While a bird taking down something the size of a commercial airliner might sound fanciful, there are numerous examples.

Wing flap position: Aviation experts have suggested the position of the aircraft’s wing flaps could have played a role in the disaster.

Video evidence suggests the flaps were either fully retracted or on a very minimal setting, which would have provided very little lift.

The flaps provide crucial extra lift at low speeds during take-offs and landings.

Pilot error: The state-of-the-art Boeing 787-8 is highly automated, with human pilots making only key decisions – but human error cannot be ruled out.

Co-pilot Clive Kundar had more than 3,400 hours of flying experience and made the mayday call but Captain Sumeet Sabharwa at the helm had 11,500 hours – making him one of Air India’s most experienced pilots.

Heat: Planes get less lift on a hot day due to lower air density, and therefore they need to go faster to get as much lift as on a cooler day.

This is particularly important when an airliner is heavy with fuel, passengers and baggage, as the Air India flight was.

Technical error: Catastrophic technical or engineering issues have not been ruled out.

The jet’s complex design mean it could take months for a design or engineering fault to be pinpointed.

“It looks like a little Evinrude motor, it’s a little two bladed prop.

“The purpose is to provide electrical and hydraulic pressure for the aircraft on an extreme emergency.”

Steve explained there are three things which could cause the RAT to deploy on a 787: “A massive electrical failure, a massive hydraulic failure, or a dual engine failure.

“But I think the fact the aeroplane is mushing out the sky gives the idea it was a dual engine failure,” he said.

The tragic smash is the first ever fatal accident involving a Boeing Dreamliner.

52 Brits died on board the flight, but London local Vishwash Kumar Ramesh managed to cheat death when he escaped the blazing inferno following the crash.

Theories have swirled over how the sole survivor managed to narrowly escape death when he was sat in seat 11A during the horror smash.
