‘Catch me if you can’ – ‘Freakish athlete’ Anthony Elanga shows off insane 100m time ahead of Newcastle transfer

ANTHONY ELANGA was dubbed a “freakish athlete” as he showed off his insane 100m sprint time ahead of a move to Newcastle.

The former Manchester United winger, 23, is on the verge of a £60million transfer from Nottingham Forest to St James’ Park — which will also net his old side £5m.

Newcastle’s attack is only going to get better when they add Elanga to an already-potent frontline featuring Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon.

But despite the blistering speed of Toon’s current attackers, Elanga looks to be on a different planet.

The Sweden international became a hit at both Old Trafford and the City Ground for his lung-busting sprints down the flanks.

And Elanga has not been resting on his laurels this summer after being filmed practicing his 100m sprints on a running track.

The star did his best Sonic impression by hurtling down the tarmac with lightning-quick strides.

But his numbers were even more impressive as the ace’s trainer declared: “Catch me if you can.”

Elanga hit a mind-blowing top speed of 24.7 miles per hour.

That means he moves faster than almost any vehicle in London.

Elanga also clocked up a 100m sprint time of 10.93 seconds.

And that’s only 1.35 seconds slower than the world record, which was set by Usain Bolt in 2009.

Fans reacted with delight to Elanga’s amazing running feat.

One said: “Freak athlete.”

Another declared: “They don’t know what’s coming, best in the league RW loading.”

One noted: “Exactly what we need, rapid.”

Another added: “Doesn’t even look like he’s trying either.”

Prior to his impending Newcastle move, Elanga netted 11 goals in 82 appearances for Forest.

He joined them from Manchester United for £15million in 2023, where he’d scored four times in 55 outings.

Elanga is also a Sweden international, boasting 22 caps and four goals, with his Newcastle move set to reunite him with teammate Isak.
